Digital Reaper Arms & Ships
« on: May 08, 2015, 11:40:44 pm »
Company Name: Digital Reaper Industries
Intent: Durable weapons and ships designed to eliminate the competition.
Location: Jorgen
Affiliation: Synth
Worth: 260 trillion credits (Official income numbers. Unofficial: 400 trillion) (140 trillion made in 'illegal' sales)

Description and History
The Digital Reapers were the first weapons manufacturer on Jorgen. Originally tasked with providing the army with new weapons designs, they were phased out after a number of years by the CG Weapons Development Institution. The Digital Reapers began working as an independent company since the core development and production teams had been phased out as well.
Noticing a large market in the criminal underworld for easy to acquire, hard to identify weapons the Digital Reapers began developing weapons for the criminal community that had only so recently began to grow on Jorgen. These weapons were not high quality, instead these weapons were cheap enough for the average criminal.
Synths had attained their freedom both with guns and with blades, and the Digital Reapers began producing quality melee weapons for their customers who wanted that 'personal' touch. They still produce and develop melee weapons, and were responsible for the now widely used Integrated Blades.
That is not to say they don't also make guns. Collapsible snipers, pocket pistols, sleeve guns, to name a few of their more 'discrete' weapons. They also make the big guns with assault rifles and explosives for those willing to pay the price tag.  They've also developed and are developing energy based weapons.
The Digital Reapers also never give out paperwork concerning who buys their weapons, and have flat out refused to help in criminal cases several times. They simply will not give out their consumers information to anyone.

The Digital Reapers are no strangers inter-company warfare, and have acquired a large private army to help with these matters. This army largely consists of hired mercenaries(expensive but quality), and criminals that they have hired over the years. The Digital Reapers during their initial years on working solely on Jorgen hired a number of Synth criminals that had gotten out only to find their gang destroyed. With the benefits that the Digital Reapers offered and the paycheck it would have been insane for them to say no.
After those initial years they still recruit criminals, but they have some of their more skilled and experienced soldiers train them. As they've grown they have hired criminals of all species, though they've begun to primarily hire mercenaries since they have both more experience and often come with their own gear.

There needs to be some drawback to their products, to keep them balanced, for example SiegeWork being cheap and widely available, but low quality, Lork-Tech being advanced but more expensive and Dakkaland being powerful yet built of scrap so they're unpredictably varied and mostly designed for Orcs.

They seem mostly designed to completely outdo the other Companies, which probably messes with balance a little, for example the high quality and low cost means there's pretty much no reason to buy from any other company, the huge private army likely dwarfs that of SiegeWork's and Lork-Tech presumably has the use of a Government military, although I'm not sure what Lork's done with that, Dakkaland doesn't need a military since their entire race is pretty much a military.

For the moment they seem somewhat overpowered in comparison, but so far a good idea.

Yeah, I'll get to editing when I've got time, this pretty well took me thirty minutes and I realized I'd have to do some editing. I'll probably edit so that they make more through illegal sales then legal, and make it where there guns aren't high quality but are discrete and hard to trace.

Essentially their focus is black market trading, they purposely supply the criminal element of the galaxy. I can see huge profits being made there, which makes sense with them being far better off financially than the other companies.
They could also produce a few energy weapons too since I don't think any of the arms companies have done that much yet, Lork-Tech being the only one so far to invent an energy weapon and SiegeWorks to have stolen and adapted the design, as they often do. I don't know if Dakkaland would bother inventing an energy weapon.
Also Synths seem to like melee weapons? That could be a nice way to differentiate their product focus.

The answer for the massive private military would be due to their connection with the criminal black market they have easy access to highly trained criminal mercenaries instead, incredibly expensive but one for one they'd be more effective than any trained military, just less common to balance it.

Hopefully these suggestions are helpful.

There edited it.
Their weapons aren't high quality, but they aren't REALLY low quality either. Essentially their cheap weapons that are pretty well designed for criminals, and they also produce melee weapons.

Seems a fair bit better now, they've got their own individual specialisations to set them apart from the other manufacturers and have their own corner of the market to specialise in and succeed in.

Okay, going to try and keep most weapons on the second post, though if that ever runs out of space I'll use this.

You might want to edit the grenade type. I say make it use 30mm grenades since those are the most used for grenade machineguns.
