I was actually thinking about sizing the main gun so it can fire Nerf footballs (the ones with fins on them) as "anti-tank" shells to eliminate enemy vehicles as per field rules, and then just attaching a standard airsoft M16 alongside to act as the coaxial machine-gun. Or, making shells of the same diameter as the Nerf round, put a plastic wad into the new shell, and fill the wad with pellets to make that round work like canister shot.

Considering that most WWI tanks generally had the engine sitting in the same compartment as the crew, I don't think I'd want to do that. Plus, the lack of a turreted main gun seems less entertaining IMO.

But hey, the cast iron trench armor is still a possibility, right? :|

Uhhhhh. Trench armor, possibly. Cast iron? Probably not, since it's a real pain in the ass to keep unrusted, and it'd be too heavy and obscenely expensive for something as simple and silly as an airsoft tank. The heaviest "armor" I would go with is probably plywood around a steel frame, since plywood is cheap, far easier to work with, and doesn't rust. I'm protecting the crew from BBs, not (real) HEAT rounds. :P

or cardboard. I'd say aluminum frame, but aluminum is a bitch to weld. Cast iron is a no go because of weight and the brittleness of the material. You can't really bend it, a good sledge hammer blow will usually break cast iron. If you want that bitch to move, I bet you could rig it up to a bicycle, modify the bike with training wheels or something and pedal slow.

Seriously though, a double or triple layer of cardboard is about as light as you are going to get and will certainly block those little plastic pellets.

I dunno. Once I get solid plans, constraints, workarounds to said constraints, materials, and estimated costs, I'll probably open up a thread in the "Creative Endeavours" board, since I think that's where this would belong once I get out of the planning stages.

Cardboard is your best option, corrugated cardboard at that, similar concept to angled armor and it'll also be a little stronger structural wise.
Aluminium frame is also likely to be your best option to allow you to use some kind of foot pedal for propulsion, which will cut costs since you won't have to build an engine.

Although a fixed cannon will result in a much simpler build than one with a turret and may be a better choice for your first build, refine and improve it later, you could end up adding a turret onto it with it's fixed turret at a later date.

Oh, I mean, the iron stuff the Germans used in WWI didn't exactly stop HEAT rounds. Hell, it was really only for gunner crews, and most of the time they didn't wear it anyways.

They found it could only really stop handgun bullets. Rifle rounds would usually punch right through. I only really said it for historical comedy's sake :P

Maybe not though, it isn't good for airsoft and the warhammer 40K models tend to be outrageously expensive.

I'm a warlord titan man myself. I wonder when they did the redesign, the warlord used to be a huge box looking thing. With wormhole rockets.


Or the "Ogre" AI controlled warmachine, if we go back to tanks for a second.
