Title: GSC gameworld has reopened and STALKER discussion
Post by: saltmummy626 on March 31, 2015, 10:26:03 pm
I know its old news now, but the company responsible for creating the STALKER franchise has reopened its doors. This makes me very happy even though it seems they dont have plan to work on STALKER 2 yet. It appears they have to slap down some pretenders and excersize their pimp hands on this "west games" company that keeps attempting to make STALKER rip offs first.

Anybody know of any good mod compilations for shadow of Chernobyl? Im looking for something like MISERY for Call of Pripyat that doesn't cause weird PC issues.
Ive looked at "Lost Alpha," but its a huge standalone thing and I just dont have 15GB of space to dedicate to it. Would it be worth the space?

I know. I love stalker. Also, lost alpha is worth the space. Despite its TERRIBLE changes to the story (worse than most stalker fanfic), its really pretty and they got the game play nailed down.

Cool, I will clear up some space on an external harddrive for it then.

How about clear sky? I thought it was a bit short and the ending was a bit weak, but It introduced the equipment modifications which was awesome. I could never find any good mods for it though.

CS is the weakest of the three. But still a good game, and I honestly liked its story best.

SoC was great, although I never actually got to the ending of it.
Can't quite remember what mod I used though, it may have been the Complete mod?
I just remember it added little crates in hard to reach locations that contained unique weapons, and added a whole lot of new encounters.

Aren't most of West Games' employees people who worked on the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games anyway?

Lost Alpha is overridden with bugs, that don't let you advance the story. I seriously suggest to stay away from it.

Aya, A bunch of them migrated to west games after GSC closed. Actually I read somewhere that survariums project lead went to west games to head up STALKER apocalypse, the game they are currently trying to make. Found an article about it too.

West Games shenanigans (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/12/12/stalker-kickstarter-2/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rockpapershotgun%2Fsteam+%28Rock%2C+Paper%2C+Shotgun%3A+Steam+RSS%29)

Wish I knew how to compress links into smaller phrases/words.

thanks bubbadoo. Have made that link less massive and ugly.

I didnt realize how good looking clear sky was until I reinstalled it, especially the swamp at the start.

looked at it, these imitators are doing completely illegal thing. Yes, stalker is a common word...I guess. But you have literally taken the 'zone', use 'STALKER' as a term for people in the zone, and use anomalies...blatant rip off of another studios work and should be taken down and the company fined for infringement.

Technically they are the company who made the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games
What they're doing shouldn't really be illegal.

Nop, GSC gameworld (even though it was defunct) and its CEO Sergey Grigorovich still have full rights to everything STALKER. West Games was only licensed to make a STALKER browser game which GSC was getting them to make to keep people interested in STALKER 2.

Another link to a fragment of interview, with a link to the full thing at the bottom (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/12/22/stalker-devs-gsc-reopen/#more-259595)
And some complicated legal stuff I found linked in the interveiw (http://www.gamerlaw.co.uk/2014/the-latest-games-trademark-controversy-s-t-a-l-k-e-r-and-stalker/)
