Last Man Gaming / Osu! and Other Rhythm Games
« on: March 11, 2017, 10:04:46 am »
RHYTHM IS JUST A CLICK AWAY

Now this is the kind of game I have a huge passion in. I love Rhythm games, and osu! is probably the best one out there on PC. I have been playing it off and on for 4 years now, and I just adore the game. For the sake of keeping it active, I will just make this a thread for rhythm games as a whole as it is a rather niche genre, but for first post the foci point shall be on osu! I may write some other thing for another rhythm game.

So I will give you a rundown of the 4 game modes, but I am only really experienced in the main one. So the other 3 will be mostly shamelessly copied from it's wiki.

Probably the biggest problem I have is how it works. You have to manually download beatmaps from their site. Each beatmap being the game, one song with at least one difficulty with them. It can be a pain in the ass, but you can just dump them into the song folder and it normally auto detects them. If they don't an f5 refresh works. Personally, my song folder is nearing 2 and a half gigs in size.

STANDARD

This is the main meat of the game. Most of it is the standard, and that is really all I play. You click circles to the beat, that is the essential. It is much harder than that, though.

There is 3 types of things in this. Hit Circles you must click, Sliders you must drag, and spinners you must spin your mouse around the screen spastically. All in tune to the music.. except for spinners really. They are a pain in the ass like that, they were worse in the days before me though. They had 'ninja spinners' that are banned now, but then were so short some of the old songs to this day still can't be fully s ranked, not even on the bot made to play beatmaps (What each song thing is called) perfectly.

Anyways, not only must you click these things, you must also click them to the beat or rhythm of whatever song you are playing. Getting scored on how close to beat/rhythm you are.

They also increase by what ever times your combo is, raking in huge scores near the end if you keep an epic combo.
There is also what I call glorified score counters. These are
Geki and Katu/Katsu
These just mean how well you hit a set of notes. The set shown by having the same colour and increasing number (sometimes, some beatmaps change up the looks of that.) Geki for hitting perfect on the set, and Katu/Katsu for hitting at least one 100 pointer in the set. The colour of Katu/Katsu just denoting you hit a 300 or 100 on that particular note.

You get graded at the end for how well you play, and the higher ones get tracked on your account.
Silver SS (SSH) = 100% accuracy with 'hidden' and/or 'flashlight' mod.
Silver S (SH) = Over 90% 300s, less than 1% 50s and no misses with 'hidden' and/or 'flashlight' mod.
SS = 100% accuracy
S = Over 90% 300s, less than 1% 50s and no misses.
A = Over 80% 300s and no misses OR over 90% 300s.
B = Over 70% 300s and no misses OR over 80% 300s.
C = Over 60% 300s.
D = Anything else.

TAIKO

Taiko, probably the second most popular gamemode of osu! I honestly don't quite like it, but eh, I digress.
As probably expected you play a taiko drum in beat of the music. You hit 2 different notes not counting special ones, red and blue. Blue means hit the outside of the drum, red means hit the inner drum. You only hit one side on the small notes, but you must hit both sides of the drum on the big notes. There is two special notes, yellow and shaker. Yellow you must drumroll between two sides of either the inner or outer of the drum. Shaker is alternating from inner to outer.

There really isn't too much else to say about this mode, other than it is compatible with some Japanese taiko drum game thing. From what I understand it is like guitar hero's guitar thing, but a taiko drum.

CATCH THE BEAT

This is a rather fun one, but I kinda suck at it. You catch falling fruit that is timed to the music.
You only move left or right to catch the fruit, and shift is a hard to control fast dash.
For the bonus point system, similar to the spinner and taiko's drumroll, it is instead a rain of bonus point bananas.

OSU!MANIA

This gamemode is probably about as close as you will get to something similar to Beatmania or Guitar Hero.
You press a corresponding key to a falling note in time to a beat.
It has a variable amount of keys depending on difficulty, up to a hectic 9 keys. The keys being asdf(spacebar)jkl; on default. So it is like learning the homerow on your keyboard on steroids.

And now some videos done by yours truly just to show off the game! Uploaded just due to my plans on making this thread.

Announcements / A Change in Moderation
« on: March 07, 2016, 08:48:15 am »
The moderator of Creative Endeavors, Dusty/Pilgrim, is no longer active on the forum. I have asked her and she has requested someone to take her position since she is rarely active on the forum anymore. Vulnus has agreed to take their place as Creative Endeavors moderator. I had PMed him about it since he is often active on that thread and had previously stated interest on being a moderator and he has said yes.

Now we just wait for one of the lazy admins to actually bother to do the change.

General Discussion / Computer Talk
« on: November 27, 2015, 07:18:34 pm »
To make this thread not useless after my question is answered this can also be a general discussion about computers I guess.

So, my parents are planning on getting me a computer/ giving me a chunk of funds for a computer and they want to know what specs I am aiming for. The thing is I am not quite sure of the specs I will want for a decent computer. Though I would like a computer that is actually good enough to run Brutal Legend, Killing Floor 2, Payday 2, State of Decay, and Dark Souls comfortably at a decent quality so those games on my Steam library were not a waste of money. Though it would nice to be higher for when I buy more intensive games. So I was wondering if anyone knows what specs I should be aiming for. I know I would at least want one or two terabytes for hard drive space.

Last Man Gaming / Butterfield Hotel
« on: October 16, 2015, 10:26:46 pm »

This is basically a modded Habbo Hotel with no paywall shit. It's fun enjoying the nostalgia. Right now it is a really small group of cool people from Facepunch. Thought I might share it here so you guys can hang out in the game with me and such. Their front page has a live radio manned most of the day.
It is in alpha so there is bugs, like a major one is that some seats cause people who sit on it be invisible, It then breaks the chat when they speak.

Here is the Facepunch thread for it https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1489567
Here is their main page http://bfh.worldofvagax.com/
and finally here is the page for all the enable codes http://pastebin.com/XxTBTvYx

Last Man Gaming / DragonRoll
« on: August 01, 2015, 04:36:58 pm »

What is it?

DragonRoll is a recreation of the popular internet game, Space Station 13, in early development. Many elements have been changed to be more friendly to newcomers, and to convert it to have a unique Role-playing game feel.

It is centred on a world in turmoil, torn by war and on the brink of mass extinction. The primary goal of each round in the game is to push the world's balance to it's tipping point, and cause an apocalypse for your side, and in the event of a hostile apocalypse, try your hardest to revert it.

It lends a lot of mechanics from Space Station 13, but sprinkles in a heavy dose of new ones, including things like heavy character customization, classes and abilities.

A list of some features include:
* An Extensive crafting system.
* Combat system with many stats to customize your play-style.
* Unique sNPC system, meaning AI players live lives of their own, and the world grows even without you.
* Extensive Character Creation system, allowing for almost limitless combinations.
* A Variety of skills, including fishing, cooking, mining and woodcutting!
* Achievements and Tracked stats, so you can see how other's progress along with you
* Randomly generated worlds, full of dangers to survive from.
* Systems to build your own buildings.

And a lot more!

How does it work?

Players start the game by creating their own character, from a variety of races and classes which offer unique gameplay advantages and disadvantages, as well as a variety of skills and abilities.

After entering a round, the player is free to do as they please, with the ultimate goal of bringing about the apocalypse for their chosen alignment. Actions such as murdering opposite alignment characters, and helping similar aligned characters will cause the world's balance to tip, and when it reaches it's peak, the world will trigger into an apocalypse, which will cause the world to slowly change into the winning alignment.

The apocalypse can be reverted by return the world's balance to 0.

How can I play?

Firstly, download BYOND from here.

After installing it and registering an account, join any server on this page.

Can I Contribute?

Absolutely! Contribution is highly encouraged, as the ideal of DragonRoll is to create a game by players, for players. Almost all contributions (sprites, code, sounds etc) will be accepted, assuming they're thematic and don't violate any real-life laws. Additionally, contributions that are outright crude (bodily functions, etc) or p0rnographic may be rejected if they do not have substance behind them. People of all skill-levels can contribute anything from one sprite, to an entire feature, but it is asked that you do not remove features without replacing them with a new system. Due to the engine (BYOND), it's incredibly easy to contribute things.

Visit this page for information on how to contribute content.

Whats it look like?

Ok now for my comment. I copied all that above from the post the developer made. He's a cool guy and I am friends with him. I know a bunch of you guys play SS13 so I thought you guys might want to check it out. His servers kinda suck at the moment, a lot of that because him and his server are in Australia so it kinda sucks for us all the way in America.

EDIT: Fixed the links, what I get from lazily porting a post from one forum to the other with small coding differences.

   A sudden rush of light in the shroud of darkness, like peeling open a curtain to find the rays of a thousand suns hit your eyes after living the life of a hermit spending days behind a digital screen typing the hours away. You get up and rub your eyes adjusting to the horribly bright light that illuminates this boringly blank white room. You get up and dust yourself off. You try to remember your real name, but at the moment of sleep fueled haziness it eludes you, but you do at least remember your friends call you by the name Perigrin.
   After the haziness clouds away a new feeling of Panic takes over your body. "Wait, wait, wait how the hell did I even end up in a place like this, I sure as hell didn't choose to fall asleep on this blank ass space" you gibber whilst looking at your surroundings. After searching around you find this odd envelope almost camouflaged to the wall, as you were feeling for some kind of exit out of this odd little place. You rip open the envelope and dump it out. Among the several pictures of anthropomorphic dogmen engaging in lewd acts you find a note with abysmal handwriting. You read it and it says "HEY PEAREGRIN I GAVE U PR0N CAN I HAZ ADMEN SHIP NAO!? LOL MEMES" you crumple up the note and pocket a few of those damn fine furry pics. You think to yourself, "Goddamn it, who's the bundle of sticks who did this to me? Well sh1t better find a way out of this sh1thole before that p1ss lord gets here."
   Continuing to search the walls with added vigour you soon find a pressure plate into the wall and press it. Suddenly the small radius around you gives way to a dark tube. After what seems like forever you see a light and enter... what looks like the same exact white room. "You know what fook this, I am done!" You yell as you stamp off stage. Stopping only to crumple up the script and throw it at the director's face. The director was Bubbadoo, all he wanted to do was become admin. This elaborate stage was just for Perigrin to make Bubbadoo admin. At Least to his merit those were some damn fine furry pics.

Last Man Gaming / Cards Against Humanity

It's like a Mature adlib, but multiplayer.

I am also making a custom Utterly Mad deck, suggest some ideas to be put into there. I think a big one would be RP related one's because I rarely venture the land of the Roleplay. Last RP I really got into was one involving Mania and shooting people in the mouth.
My custom deck in progress can be found here https://www.cardcastgame.com/browse/deck/QGQB2

Last Man Gaming / Your scariest experience in vidya gams

Because I steal Facepunch threads.

Post what has scared you in video games, whether it traumatized your childhood or frightened you today.
Feel free to post pictures and/or videos to better explain and show said moment that got you scared.

Here is my favorite post on the previously mentioned Facepunch thread,

I remember I was playing ArmA one night by myself. I opened up the level editor, set the time to dead of night, clear starry sky, left the map empty, and just played. I was walking around, RPing like I was the only man left on the planet (Don't ask). After about 5 minutes of wandering around in the darkness, my character says, "Unknown man at 200 meters."

I fucking quit the game right then and there.

and now for something that spooked me. I was playing Gone Home[Which I pirated.]which already has a spooky-ish atmosphere to it, but there is a point where you discover there is a secret hallway connecting two rooms. In this hallway is a dim bare lightbulb and a golden cross on the floor. If you pick up the cross the light explodes and it became pitch black. I was very spooked.
Though if you haven't I do recommend playing Gone Home, as I liked the story and thought it was beautiful. There is also a bunch of minor stories too which you can find.

Last Man Gaming / Utterly Mad Arcade
« on: June 24, 2015, 08:06:29 pm »
If you have not noticed we have an arcade now. Most of it seems that you can not save your score, but there is some games that you can save the score. I know for sure that Breakout's highscore is able to save.

There is a game called Bus Rampage that can not save the high score, but the concept is really crazy. You play as a Special Ed class that takes over a short bus and go on a rampage before police arrive.

So try to find as many games that can save high score, and any interesting one's you have found.

By a small indie games studio Late Night Games is this awesome game called Cyberpunk Dreams. It's currently in late alpha or early beta so I can't directly link the game.

However I can link you to the guy in charge of cyberpunk dreams who will give you a link. You will need an account on the Failbetter Games forum to message (Because the forum is from the company who made Fallen London/ Storynexus/ etc.) him. His profile is here . When you get into the game, it uses your Fallen London profile, if you have that, because it uses the storynexus engine.
Tell him I sent you.

The reason I am not directly linking is this "just have to be careful about it not getting publicly spread, as that could spoil a future PR campaign (news sites might not want to talk about something that's been public for a while)." because I asked for permission to spread this on our forum.

Quote from: Here is a description from their site because I am too lazy to put it into my words
     Since autumn 2013, we’ve been working on one large project: a sprawling RPG and interactive narrative game called cyberpunkdreams. Currently in late alpha or early beta, It’s built on the StoryNexus platform. Our tentative public release date is autumn 2015. It’s set in a harsh, gritty cyberpunk world populated by detailed characters and plausible technology.

     The concept for cyberpunkdreams began any years ago, as a web-based collaborative fiction project – dozens of writers working within one consistent world. This idea never got off the ground originally, but may well see the light of day as a partner project for our StoryNexus release. We also envisage multiple other games, including for desktop and mobile, set within the same world.

My last thoughts: I absolutely love this game so far, it's so fun. Add me as a contact so we can help each other, let me know of your username (Username, not what you have named your character.) so I can add you as a contact too. I think some of you guys might enjoy it because a bunch of you like cyberpunk, right?

Also keep in contact with that guy I have linked, he needs feedback on how the game is so far he also needs bug reports/ and spelling error reports. He is a pretty cool guy. I think that is all I am probably forgetting stuff but I am getting tired.

This is fun, people can draw album covers in a MSPaint-esque program and you must guess the artist and album the picture comes from. You can also draw your own.

Here is my profile http://www.guessthatalbum.com/members/profile/Bubbadoo
and the albums I have currently made.

EDIT: Wow i never expected copying album covers to be so entertaining.
