The Community Dwarf Fort Thread

Well, see how this goes I guess.

So, community fort. Far as I can tell, everyone here plays DF and is familiar with the concept. I guess the questions would be:

ANSWERED FOOL!

KOBOLD KAMP!

KK is a clever conversion-y style mod made by our own Random Dragon. Rather than having a fort full of drunk, industrious, deadly dwarves, you get to play with a fort full of mostly-sober, surprisingly industrious, and Boldy dangerous Kobolds. It's also full of clever little Utterly Mad references, from the civilization symbol to statues.

Rules:

1. No intentionally killing everyone unless the other players agree.
2. No just completely walling off the fort as the main form of defense - if all else is lost, sure.
3. Turns last one year.
4. Please try to squish your updates into a couple of posts so that I don't have to link up a million things when updating this.

Turn order:

1. Random Dragon - Founding of the Kamp. An excellent reign tempered by reason and good design. 1,2,3
2. Salt Mummy - The bones say shaman leads. Makes temple. Hunts pigs. Kick badger. Much crafts. Good leader.1,2,3,4,5,6
3. Apathetic Excuse - THE WARMASTER RULES! Much bluster, as effective of a secret weapon as you can have without mechanics. 1,2,3,4
4. Caconym - Short turn, some wall building, the population grows.  1
5. Random Dragon - Fixing our defensive "fixes", redesigning our "designs". Another year of sensible rule to make sure the rest of us don't get the fort killed during our turns. Also, our first real siege. No lions involved. Turns out bolds are badasses. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 - SO MANY POSTS. About a fifth of which I've skipped. But here's the important ones.
6. Salt Mummy - The shaman rules again. Half the fort dies because of Mr. Ed. Shame we have a shaman and not a lich. Several great beasts show up - Bolds are truely badass! Also builds the coolest zoo ever. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,A note on the zoo, incase you can't see how awesome it is, and Salt's save if you want to see it yourself - ALSO SO MANY POSTS. Geeze, fellas.

7. Apathetic Excuse - What a lazy fucker, skipping his turn.

Speak of derp dragons, and they will hear. Don't tempt me. What sort of Fun should we provoke in a fort?

Honestly, the last time I played seriously was when .40d was the latest and greatest, and the only time I've really played a different version since then is the current LP which is .23a. Since I have to re-learn a bunch of stuff, I'm pretty much down for anything, Kobold or no.

I'm also fine with dark ages II, but I'm sure not everybody would enjoy that.

Personally, I enjoy desert embarks. That includes glaciers.  If we decide to embark on an aquifer and can't get through it easily, I suggest we rise to the challenge. Evil biomes are pretty hardcore now. Not that they weren't hardcore before. Lets just say on a fresh embark, it is normal for your dwarves to transform into zombies the moment you unpause.

Not familiar with that one either, but I really am good with anything. Except evil biomes, apparently.

We need a fourth party to weigh in here if it's down to those two as the main choices. Assuming salty votes for DAII and you vote for KK, and I don't care either way, it might be a while before we get this off the ground.

That or you guys can FIGHT IT OUT IN THE ARENA for my vote. Been a while since I've seen some good hand to hand combat.

Of course, then we'd need to form an arena designing committee. Which very well might get stalemated as well.

So then we'd have to have a formal debate. Which requires a debating hall and a mod. So we'd get nowhere on that.

Fast forward to Salty wanting a walnut podium, and RD prefering a sleek stainless number, and me not caring either way, and...

OH GOD GUYS, I JUST WANNA PLAY A GAME.

But seriously, I'm down for whatever mod-wise. And a little drunk. Desert or glacier is good by me if it's good with the dragon.

Desert forts might be...interesting, though to avoid lethally short forts, I'd suggest something arid with an aquifer. Then again, I never have tried a glacier fort.

And while I'm thinking about it, I haven't done a vanilla fort in a while. So is fine if we end up doing a normal fort in an interesting location, instead of a modded fort.

I'd say glacier is probably the harder of the two. I dunno if the caverns freeze, but I'm pretty sure the water there doesn't evaporate, so I don't know if a vanilla desert would be too crazy hard. I've never done a glacier either, could be interesting.

Do aquifers freeze if it's cold enough?

I'd like a magma pipe if you guys have no objections. I never build forts with magma pipes.

As one further suggestion, I dunno how you guys feel about drinking, but we could do a version of Drunk Fort.

I cast my vote for execution a glacier then. With aquifier. And ideally magma.
