[species/player race] The Talen/Mechanids (ready for approval)
« on: January 02, 2017, 01:28:57 am »
Name: Talen/Mechanid
Designation: Sentient
Homeworld: Sigma 5
Language: Talenite
Average height of adults: 5' (anywhere from 8' to 12' in Mechs)
Skin color: light to dark red
Hair color: varies
Breathes: C02 heavy air

Strengths(Talen): Machine Bond-The Talen themselves are rather frail however they form a heavy bond with their Mechanid to do heavy labor.
Weaknesses: Frail-Often viewed as one of the physically weakest races in the universe the Talen are not capable in most physical situations outside of a Mechanid.

Strenghts(Mechanid): EMP Shielding-The Mechanids have exceedingly heavy emp shielding that renders almost all of the emp weapons available null and void.

Weaknesses(Mechanids): Neural Link-The Mechanids do not operate themselves and as such are limited to the reaction speeds of their operators.

Machine Bond-Due to being neurally linked when the mech is sufficiently damaged it can cause actual harm to the Talen linked to the mech.
Distinctions(Talen): Physically small though physically similar to other bipedal races. due to the differences in the atmospheres they breath very few people from other races know what a Talen looks like. Having no nose (instead two slits in there face roughly where a nose would be) and larger eyes than most races their appearance is usually thought of as odd to other races.

Distinctions(Mechanid): Produced by the Talen the Mechanids are AI monitored mech suits. The AI maintains the suit when docked in the proper stations and informs the operator of the status of the mech(Energy levels, damage to systems, ammo in weapons, etc.). The Talen are also neurally linked to their Mechanid. This can cause actual harm to the Talen if the suit is sufficiently damaged. The Mechanids also come equipped with personality chips.

Average Lifespan: 100 years
Races:
Estimated Population: 9 billion
Diet: omnivorous
Communication: vocal
Culture: The Talen believe in a co-existance between man and machine with them viewing their mechanical counterparts(whom usually have a personality program installed) as just as important as themselves. As such the Talen officially classified the Mechanids as an entirely different species despite the fact they produce them in specially built factories. As such they view how some species treat their machines as rather disturbing, with the occasional group of Talen making offers to take care of said machines(with one group in a well known incident stealing a ship because of how ill kept it had been). An oft made remark about Talen ships(from warships to civilian ones) is that 'if there were a single spec of dirt the entire crew would be piling over each other to clean it', which whilst hyperbolic is rather true about the attitudes of the Talen. They also try to avoid conflict but are no strangers to it due to prior internal conflicts convincing the military to keep themselves as well trained as possible. Bonds are also developed between the Talen and their Mechanids, with Talen normally going their entire lives only having been linked to one Mechanid.

Technology level: In most areas similar to Terrans, in the field of Mechs and similar they are considered one of the more advanced races in that area of technology.

General behavior: Most Kah'ven are curious folk who have an odd empathy towards machines(with personality chips or not). Most of them work as engineers or similar roles with a few working in more violent lines of work(mercenaries, bounty hunters, etc)

History: [Describe an abridged history.]: The Talen have been on the galactic level for nearly eighty years. Upon first arriving they were viewed rather oddly due to their near reverence for machines. Their innate curiousity mixed with the fact that they are never seen without their Mechanid has made them a bit of an object of curiosity. Several groups attempted to take over the Talen and were pushed back by the Talen military. Since these attacks the Talen Military bolstered it's number.

Notable Player-Characters:

Intent: Prosper

Planets Controlled: 4

(changed the name because it sounded almost exactly like another thing)

I like the concept, but personally would like to see more on the mechanids in specific. Basic stats and stuff, just to get an idea as to how they'd compare to an average dude or a battletank in a fight. If that makes sense.
Gone. Cheers guys.

Mechanid details
Height: 8'-12' average
Armor: Varies depending on purpose, with military units having heavier armor which again varies depending on purpose. Some military Mechanids have armor similar to that of a tank while others have lighter armor designed to allow higher mobility while still carrying heavy weaponry.
Weaponry: Specially designed to suit Mechanid hands, these weapons are designed for various purposes.
Personality Chips: All Mechanids are equipped with personality chips and are treated as individuals comparable to the pilot. Personalities vary widely with them changing over time due to experiences. Minor movement without pilot is possible but things such as combat are impossible for the AI to do by itself. Personality chips are on occasion put in special 'capsules' which house the personality chip, either in the case of destruction of the Mechanid body or allowing the personality to be transported more easily. Several 'celebrities' are actually personality chips in various kinds of 'capsules'

Any specific details I missed?

I'd say it's good enough for acceptance, but personally, I'd also be interested in a rough numerical estimation of armour capabilities (relative to say, a modern MBT) and things such as lifting strength, more for reference than anything else.
