The Galactic Stock Exchange (IC Lore)

!!!TNN ECONOMIC UPDATE!!!
Great signs of things ahead today as the Lah have the United Terran Dollar climbing a stunning thirty-five units to an even 10-1 GSC rating! Go Terra! There is truly no limit to what we can accomplish under the guidance of the UTE.

The Rastal 'production unit' remains static as the markets close for today at 123.77-1, sure proof of what a corrupt, unnatural economic system they use. Analysts do not expect it to rise in the near future as they continue to direct their flawed production systems to rebuilding from the decade old Rastal-Norenfal War.

In trading news, the Aryan Special Services Group share value has risen an astounding 2 GSC amid rumors of winning several lucrative contracts to combat Black Hand activity on the Outer Rim! Despite the optimistic atmosphere on the trading floor, veteran investors are urging caution as it is uncertain if these rumors are true, and if the Black Hand realistically presents enough of a threat to human citizens to be worth funding such activities.

Perhaps one of the most stunning announcements made since mankind took to the stars, Ardite Industries, known as suppliers of nearly everything under the sun, and major contributors in the Terran Reconstruction era, announced they would be transferring to a publicly-traded organizational structure. While most shares remain in the hands of the current directors, those that have been released opened at a mind-blowing 2023 GSC per share. In UTD terms, this is an unprecidented $20,230, and while this puts investing out of the range of the casual speculator, experts predict Ardite will begin providing sound returns almost immediately.

A downturn today in Vesuvian Syndicate shares seems to have been the natural result of protests against their latest crowd control chemicals. The Syndicate seems unconcerned, and an unnamed source in the upper level of management pointed out dryly that the more demonstrations held by those opposed to the chemicals, the greater the demand for them would be. Analysts expect a rebound in no time!

So, I haven't finished the GSC/Kah-Lah thing yet, but thought this would be neat.

If you want your race listed on the Galactic Stock Exchange, just tell me what your money is called. I'm assigning values based on a number of factors, such as tech, standard of living, etc. etc. Not really much effect in terms of RP unless you want it to have some effect, since I doubt we'll have much for economic RP.

Same deal with corporations. If you want yours listed, then just let me know, and I'll assign some values. Human corps only please, unless your corp has an obvious, solid connection to humanity and a reason why terrans would be investing (assuming the UTE allows this, which Lork will have to confirm).

The OP will be updated after major RP events. Your corp lose a ton of manpower or resources? Your stocks go down. Win a war and take a planet? Your currency value goes up.

I have a few calculation systems, but that's not too important. If you want to be listed for immersion's sake, you give me permission to assign what numbers I feel are accurate without getting things re-approved. If something seems wayy off, let me know, and I'll see what we can work out.

It might seem a little unituitive, but the lower your X-1 ratio is, the better. I realized after the fact that this is not a standard way to show comparisons in most places. In case whatever text is current doesn't make it clear, what is being shown is how many "dollars" of your currency equal 1 GSC. So, if the United Terran Dollar is 10-1, it means $10 UTD equals 1 GSC.

As is likely detailed elsewhere, actual Galactic Standard Credits aren't tangible things. They can be transferred electronically, usually via the services of the Lah who act as a central bank, or races can trade with their own currencies based on the values assigned by the Lah, which is really all the ticker is displaying.

Overall, this is pretty great.

Now you just gotta add Ardite Industries and Siegeworks!
There is probably no more terrible instance of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.

Updated with Ardite Industries (ARD). SUPER WALMART gets a good valuation IMO. It's still somewhat low, since depending on how you count to a trillion (there's a bunch of ways to do this, apparently, but I used a million billions), the 20,230 valuation means there are 44488383589 shares available. I'm gonna roll with it anyway and say we shouldn't think hard about the implied things this says about the Terran economy, rampant inflation, etc etc. For some reference though, IRL the valuation at 900 trillion, ignoring that this is just liquid assests, is probably much larger than a big chunk  of the calculated output of the galactic economy as a whole (yes, people who aren't me have done some very hypothetical math on this). If you count to a trillion as a billion billions, it's even higher, and likely exceeds all wealth theoretically created anywhere ever. If you use the common US system, and count to one thousand billions (or a million millions), suddenly Ardite only exceeds the global economy by a factor of 15.

To give a slightly different example of how big a trillion really is (or can get), a mere 6 trillion seconds is just about as long as modern humans have existed. if you made a dollar every second, it would take about 189,000 years to hit a trillion bucks.

What this all boils down to is that hell is a very real place for accountants, and it's called Ardite Industries.

On the flip side of this, if the Rastals took over Ardite industries and re-distributed their wealth like a bunch of space commie bastards, each Rastal would find them selves a whopping (and brace yourself for this) $60 richer, just enough for a quarter bag of weed.

Do the same thing with humanity, and you end up with $450 per person - just about enough for everyone on earth to be able to buy this 1997 Toyota Tercel including taxes, which has just under 450,000 KM on it, and comes with new spark plugs and two spare rims. Having driven one of these with just about as many clicks on it, I can tell you that's a great way to spend your newly redistributed commie handout. You might also have enough for a pretty cool used dirtbike, but that guy Mike doesn't want to budge from his $550 asking price and PLAINLY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF OBO.

This, my friends, is why socialism and the whole "let's make the rich ceos distribute their money to the minimum wage employees" thing doesn't work.

More info for info's sake than really important (obviously), and I'm 5 in the morning tired and maybe screwed up the math anyway.

Also updated the OOC post (first following the OP) to explain a little furthur on how Galactic Standard Credits work. No one seems to have an issue with where I'm going with them with the whole Kah-Lah thing, but I will happily change this if someone submits a better way for them to work/I don't finish the Kah-Lah.
