These should be taken as very loose guidelines rather than law, just to give a general idea of size and capability.
Intent: (purpose of the ship)
Name/Class: (ex. Smith Class Cruiser)
Affiliation:
Estimated Number In Service:
Crew Compliment: (Min people required, max you can fit. Doesn't count marines, troops, etc.)
Other Passengers: (here's where you put that)
Length: (those should be obvious. See class indicators and included drawing for an idea how it might look)
Width: (Little harder to visualize. Most naval ships IRL are, at most, 4 longer than they are wide, if that helps you at all)
FTL Capable: (yes or no)
FTL Drive: (what sort of thing makes it go faster than light?)
Drive Type: (What gives STL speed and power? plasma, ion, nuclear, whatever)
Speed: (fast, slow, unmanueverable, nimble, whatever)
Range: (can it go anywhere without refueling, or just a couple LY over?)
Armament: (weapons systems, fighter craft, whatever)
(Some examples of potential weapon types. This, again, is a guideline intended to just give some ideas and methods of balancing:
- Lasers. A sci-fi standard, they use coherent light to burn through things. There's a million types out there, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, a laser might not be as damaging as a kinetic projectile, but might be able to pass through shields that would stop the projectile.
- Kinetic weapons. As with lasers and energy weapons, there's a million types. Railguns launch massive projectiles at absurd speeds, while rapid fire massdrivers/coilguns fill space with hypervelocity metallic slugs, attempting to overwhelm shields with massed fire.
- Torpedoes/missiles. Conventional, energy based, whatever. If there's a million types of energy weapons and kinetic devices, there's a billion types of missiles. Usually slower than other weapons, but with explosive goodness.)
Defenses: ( point defense, etc.)
Armour (Front/Side/Rear): (how thick the armour is)
Shields: (Yes, no, what can they resist? As a note, most human tech level societies don't have shields yet.)
Special Equipment: (Special scanners, stealth tech, cargo pods, whatever)
Cost: (astronomical, I'm sure)
