CDDA: Adventures in Cataclysm
« on: September 29, 2016, 07:39:05 pm »
And so the beast called Mammon and the king of men did stand before the masters of the void to make his decree, and lo did the masters strike him down. Taking the crown and placing it upon the head of the beast, the masters decreed "Mammon, thou art that which lies in the hearts of all men, thou shalt be king of this world for no man can deny the will of his heart." Man bowed before the beast called Mammon and called him king. In his name they brought upon themselves ruination.
-In Libro De Discordias, 6:13, The Parable of The New King

It had been five days. Early on the first day, Kent Kamp and a handful of others had been loaded into a large truck and brought to a shelter in the woods. They had been told nothing of what was going on. Even the two men in uniform who had been left behind to watch them seemed to know nothing. Fortunately, one of the other survivors had brought a radio along. for two days they had listened intently for any bit of information, but nothing of substance seemed forthcoming. On the third day, the signal suddenly cut off and all that was left was the eerie silence of radio static. On the fourth day, they discovered the address of a refugee center not far to the north, but the world had become dangerous. On that same day, something large had broken through the tree line across the road and charged, screaming, at the shelter. Those closest the shelter ran back inside and hid in the basement, the rest had either scattered into the woods or died. For a night they waited nervously and prayed as the creature stomped around above them. In the morning, the remaining survivors drew straws to see who would go up and look around. It had been Kent to draw the short straw. Fortunately for him the creature had moved on in the night, taking what remained of the dead with it. On that fifth day, most of the remaining survivors struck out for the refugee center in the north. Kent Kamp and Marlon Ybarra were the only ones left when Kent awoke in the dark of the shelter on the sixth day.

"At least we have shelter."

And so begins the story of the first of this worlds characters.
RULES_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
CONTINUOUS PLAY!
When your turn comes, you create a new character. When you get bored, get killed, or survive an entire year, you pass the save along and the next player creates a new character. If your character is still alive when your next turn comes around, you continue play as that character. If your character is dead, then you create a brand new one. This continues until the succession burns out.

Player to player relations. Due to a limitation with cataclysm DDA, you will not be able to encounter one anothers characters in game. Instead, RP it. Items can be stolen from other players IF they are found.

Cheating. Unless you have a very very good reason, try not to use the debug functions.

Vehicles. Get a GPS unit on that bitch, someone might find it and take a liking to it.

Glorious. No idea what kinda character and stats we're looking at, but an interesting way to write up the vanilla start.

Me neither, since Kent Kamp is my character. You gotta make your own when your turn rolls around. Which reminds me, I forgot to put the rules in the OP. Woops! Gonna fix that now.
Kent is pretty generic though. 9 in each attribute, hardly any skills.

edit: attacked by wolf, almost dead already XD. Giant spiders outside. Halp.

Wolves, spiders, and wolf spiders. The bane of all early innawoods survivors.

Moose don't count, because they're the bane of everything.

Perhaps Kent shouldn't have gone to town to get water. Perhaps he shouldn't have come straight back to the shelter. What's done is done though. The wolves had been more than he could handle, and if it weren't for Marlon, they would have ripped him apart. Kent had done a fine job of avoiding the huge spiders though, except for the dog sized jumping spider that had landed a few feet from him after it's leap had taken it from the tree line. Fortunately for Kent, it had been just as much a surprise to the spider as it had been to him. It had turned towards him and raised it's legs in a defensive stance, lowering it's legs only when Kent had backed away. The things staggering around out in the woods now weren't wolves or giant spiders, but they came in such numbers. "I'm moving on Marlon. Gonna try to get to the refugee center. Want to come with me?" Marlon took another bite of the slice of roasted wolf meat and just stared at Kent. "Why would I want to do that?" Kent scratched his head, We're friends aren't we? Friends have to stick together. Marlon immediately began laughing. Seeing the look on Kents face he stopped and said, "Oh, you're serious?" His laughter only increased after that.

Out front of the shelter now, Kent took a look at his map.
Spoiler (hover to show)
He had marked the location of the center on his map. It wasn't far. Kent figured, a few miles maybe. He could walk that distance in a day.

Loot all the things. And hmm. If you do make it a year, save and another character is started...I'm wondering if it'll start up the correct time, or if year 1 magically starts anew.

Something nearby making a droning noise, otherwise the small camp site was peaceful. Kent noticed the motorcycles nearby and made straight for them. A vehicle would be nice. He had set out durin the night, and had somehow managed to avoid something out in the dark field. He had flicked on his flashlight and only saw some kind of police dog. Something was very wrong with it though, so Kent flipped the light back off and ran. The something he had avoided never made it's appearance, but the dog had followed him through the woods for some time until he had finally managed to break it's pursuit. These motorcycles represented a measure of safety for him, ease of movement and the ability to outrun anything he came across. The first bike was too badly damaged to move though. The engine was thrashed, the gas tank had a hole the size of a fist in it, and the battery was outright gone. Turning to the other, he noticed the source of the odd drone. The largest wasp he had ever seen sat watching him carefully from near the other bike. After eying up the other bike, he decided the risk wasn't worth it and staying away from that wasp and it's dagger like stinger would be best.

The trees loomed over him. Negative thoughts pervaded his mind. Thoughts of "what if." What if there was no one at the center? What if this whole thing didn't just blow over? What if came across something like what had killed those guards at the shelter? What if these bites were infected? It was depressing. His spirits lighted a bit when something on the road through the trees caught his eye, and then dropped again when he got a good look at it. It was some kind of military vehicle, and while Kent was no mechanic, it didn't take a mechanic to realize it was thrashed. For one, it looked like it had been worked over with a piece of heavy wrecking equipment. The wheels looked alright, but the damage they had sustained by whatever had wrecked it was extensive. There was no harm in trying though. Looking over the cab of the truck was like looking at the outside. It was a mess. To his surprise though, the keys were still in the ignition. To further his surprise, the truck actually started when he turned them. The controls weren't too complicated, but the fuel gauge worried him a bit. Once the truck was moving, he saw why.

The truck was hemorrhaging fuel. Hopefully, it would be enough to get him to the center.

((An idea is forming, I'm not sure how to write it, but I'll do that while playing.))

DOUBLE POST! AWAAAAAAY!

The refugee center was packed with people. A small horde of people, too close together and sick of waiting for something horrible to happen. You could see the fear on their faces. Kent approached the professional women behind the bullet proof window. "Good morning sir, what can I help you with?" It was clear she wasn't getting enough sleep. "I uh... I'm actually new here." Her hand shot up and she closed her eyes. "No. We don't have room for anymore. If you have supplies, we could really use them, but we just don't have the means to keep any more people here." She wiped her face with her hand. "I'm sorry. Listen, it's like a said. We don't have any space. Even before we lost the back bay, we were still overcrowded." Kent wanted to ask about the back bay, but didn't. "Is there anything I can get for the center then?" he had an urge to help out. There must be something he can do. "Jerky." She said, "Jerky, Flour, canned food. Anything that doesn't spoil would be great. We'll take building supplies too, if you can find any." A tall order, a desperate order. "What happened out there?" He asked, and she told him.

Oooh, this gonna be good. o3o

Already getting rough ideas for how to handle the turn. I wonder, should I do a proper Seeker of the Arcane start and get properly in-character...
