PoV:
Bionic Sniper - Alexis Nightstalker.

Backstory:
Alexis had always been interested in both long range rifle shooting and outdoors camping so naturally that passion and the skills she had acquire were put to good use as an army sniper. In terms of physical and intellectual ability she was nothing special but had lower than average eyesight and perception requiring corrective bifocal glasses skills this prevented her from qualifying to become a scout sniper. She was ready to give up when the opportunity of a lifetime showed itself, she was eligible for experimental augmentation on a then top secret project to created efficient soldiers. She accepted and emerged a with, among other things,  her eyesight of everyone else plus the ability of that of binoculars without the aid of her corrective glasses. Thanks to this she qualified all tests and was soon after deployed to the field. She later proved to be an exemplary asset to the united states armed forces.

Prologue:
Alexis had just arrived from a rather difficult assignment involving a rumor of a potential Chinese invasion. She had heard the rumors and became alarm when she learned of her assignment. She had learned nothing but was almost caught by "enemy" forces. Discovery US military forces on Chinese soil would of had been seen as an act of war with tension as high as they currently were. She pride herself in having avoided WW3. She spend the initial days of the cataclysm, coincidentally enough, in a military base in new england for reasons she did not know. She has also heard the rumors of a new disease that turned people revived the dead into violent killers but paid it no mind dismissing it as a governmental disinformation campaign (she knew all to well about those). It was not until the bombs hit that she realize something was wrong but by then most of the infantry had been deployed and the dead were taking the cities. She was given an assignment near by to holdout in the wilderness until further notice. This struck her as odd but given most other soldier were already deployed she figured they wanted the rest scattered for tactical purposes, but why her, a scout sniper of all things. She got on a helicopter to her destination but everything went to shit when they neared one of the cities. It was the 5th day since she heard the rumors of the disease and she was now witnessing it, the blood lust visible from even her altitude, the last thing she remembered before losing confidence was the pilot saying something had struck the back stabilizer, the heli soon crashed before Alexis could process anything of what was going on and soon lost consciousness.

She was awaken from the pain the crash had cause, she had acquired various injuries but was miraculous in not having broken anything or currently bleeding. She saw that someone else was looking through the rubble of what was once a helicopter. She asks  who he is and he introduces himself as Manuel Shulz. She then asks if she could help him with anything in the same way you tell a stranger who is in your property. He responds that he would like she to find a religious relic. You do not know this man, she are injured, what appears to be people infected with the disease are approaching and he asks for a religious relic?! You humor him and accept the request. She then realize what is going on, the world is forever changed, those infected people are zombies, the rumors were true, the Chinese come to mind but it does not matter now, she needs to get out of here fast. She looks at Manuel and realizes she could use his help in this situation. She ask him if he would like to join she and he laughs, "No thanks, I am well armed and more than capable of defending myself." This is when she realize two of the dead  are coming her way. She re-loads her rifle and books it, she hear shoots from Manuel's rifle as he dispatches the zombies, she reach the edge of the woods. Alexis sets up camp to asses inventory and injuries and outfits her rifle with a suppressor, a shoulder sling, and a combat knife as a bayonet. When she is about to set and zero the rifle scope she hears noise outside, its a moose,
Spoiler: Moose (hover to show)
if left alone it may leave or harm her and the tent, if she attacks that is a 2 days worth of food. Alexis readies her rifle and engages the moose with bayonet strikes. She gets injured in the process but manages to take the beast down. She proceeds to butcher it and takes the meat and such inside the tent to formulate a plan of what to do next, this is no longer a mission, HQ might be dead, but she does not plan to join them. She decides to  spend the rest of the day setting simple camp. She gathers sticks and pine boughs to make an improvised shelter instead of exposing the tent to destruction. She lays her roll mat inside the shelter once it is done. Two spaces of the shelter she digs a shallow pit to serve as a fire pit to cook some food to preserve  battery on the mess kit. After a nice meal of meat and water from the aero evaporator bionic she fell asleep in her surprisingly combustible pile of stuff. She was awoke to a sudden pain, with rifle in hand she looked at the direction it came from, it was a bear!!!
Spoiler: Bear (hover to show)
She then proceed to wrestle with the bear stabbing it with her bayoneted rifle  until the bear finally fell, however, it did not to down without a fight; Alexis had sustained some injuries in the fight. She proceeded to butcher the now fallen bear for its meat and soon fell asleep once more. She awoke the next day without incident and some of her injuries from the crash and the bear scuffle had healed.

And I see tiles are fucked again. It seems that you have to play around with the scaling mode and the software renderer toggle, if default settings aren't wonky. Both are in the same chunk of options, bottom of graphics settings.

I have played around with the settings in it works fine on my newer laptop but I am stuck in a 2009 potato so I have gotten use to the black lines.

Day 2:
After the bear incident of last night she had a good source of food for a while at least. The sun was not out yet so she could not use the mess kit to cook the meat on it. Alexis decided to make a fire in the pit and cooked 9 pieces of meat 3 of which she ate and drank the rest of the water she had in her canteen. With no bionic power and injuries only slightly better than the crash, it would be a long day ahead, at least she still had left over cooked meat, all her ammunition, some batteries for the mess kit and a makeshift campsite to "live" in.
Spoiler: Start Day 2 (hover to show)
Alexis went through planing what to do until sun rise which ended up being particularly strong which she used to recharge her bionic power, she ended up using most of it to get water so she ended up with only 25 power in the end. She then scavenged around to see what she could find but ended up with only different types of wood and more pine boughs/cones. After that alexis had enough material to make a stone shovel and she promptly crafted it to make improvements to the camp. She made the fire pit deeper and began doing holes around the perimeter for extra security. She did this until sundown where she was low on water and decided to loot nearby houses for supplies. She explored 3 houses with no incident where she gather basic supplies and resources but only managed to fill her canteen with toilet water... In the first house she found a basement with various types of ammo a shotgun and a couple of accessories. She took all ammo, the Remington 870 shotgun, a red dot sight and a suppressor. She loaded the shogun with some obsequiously reloaded shot shells and put her combat knife as a bayonet for the shogun instead of her rifle. The suppressor did not fit the shotgun so she saved it for another firearm she might find. Despite her military training she had no experience in shoguns so she did not know how to properly zero the red dot sight on the Remington, she decided to get some experience with it first before she installed the component. On her way to the second house she found a relatively intact Fire Engine but was without wheels, she gather some firefighter gear and was on her way. The third house had no special features to it and after looting it Alexis decided to head to camp where the next day awaited crafting many an item. She reached camp with no incident and after some quick inventory check she swiftly fell asleep.

Day 3:
Today was mostly uneventful for our confused heroine. She spent most of her day crafting various items from her salvaged loot including an axe, fire drill, tinder carrier, and a makeshift crowbar. The sun was bright in the sky too for a long time as well allowing alexis to fully recharge her bionics and have various drinks of water ala-bionic without having to boil her toilet water; she did however went through all her food and will need to scavenge tomorrow. Her wounds are mostly healed too so another full nights sleep should suffice. A fat zombie wandered into the camp but was quickly taken care of via bayoneted-shotgun to the face. All this and she still had no answers to what was going on, why did this happened? Could it be stopped, where is everyone? Is HQ dead? She was not going to find answers just sitting here but she knew the dead were tough from her few encounters. Alexis pondered while she cooked the last of her food if she should go into the city nearby to establish a safe house and maybe find out what was going on. She had the tools and could easily find the supplies to fortify a house and stock it with food. Finding a working vehicle would sure speed things up. She also wondered if it would be a good idea to practice archery know instead of putting it off like all those years, an effective way to kill and put food on the table fire place. All of that would have to wait for later, with her belly full and no food left finding food would be priority tomorrow after a nights rest. She lay in her roll-mat full of stuff and went to sleep uninterrupted.

Day 4:
Alexis woke up to all hear wounds healed and her belly making hunger noises, It was still dark and she was confident she could do a quick scouting job inside the city, grab some food and get back when the sun rose. She left all her items but a backpack and her shotgun and rifle with her. She remembered spotting a radio station semi-near where she had looted previously and decide to head there to see if there where any broad casts or if she could do some of her own. She got there with a few injuries from killing a few zombie via bayonet to avoid noise. She soon discovered that she would not some sort of repeater to be able to send a radio signal of her own other with radios would be able to hear, with nothing else to do she decided to leave. A zombie-fied dog had entered the station by breaking a window and Alexis soon started to bayonet-it but her encumbrance would not allow her to land a hit to the mobile foe. She resorted to using her shotgun, one shell it took to kill the dog...a big mistake. She attempted to reload but soon realized she forgot to carry her spare ammunition...She was down to 5 makeshift shot-shells, 20 actual shot shot-shells she found on her way to the station and 5 bullet to her rifle. She booked it. Outside attracted by the noise where many zombie coming and to her relief there was a working car in front of the station. She took the car and drove north to avoid the zombies coming for her and planed to make a turn right to the street that lead to the heli-crash site and move on foot from there. The sun was still not up so she used her headlights and after driving a short distance were more zombies, she decided to move forward as going back still meant zombies from the station and turning would give them all a time advantage to catch up. Just as she took the street that lead to the crash site her car gave up after plowing through many a dead in the middle of a small horde... Surrounded she killed a few with her bayonet and used the shotgun to make a path to exit but there were just to many, she could not reload fast enough and when she was down to her rifle and fire its last shot she soon was overwhelmed...it was the end of Alexis, her lasr words cursing her weapons for not loading fast enough, she died a confused and abandon girl among the dead... Au Revoir.
