Pelagium Station [OOC]
« on: March 04, 2015, 02:04:24 am »
Pelagium Station

Palagium Station, the largest transit hub in the world. Airport, seaport, dry-dock, road stop, airships, motorcycle clubs all reside in and around what could be described as a large palace of modern architecture, with races from all around the world stopping here at least once in their lives; whether it be passing through, or remaining there for good.

You remember growing up in the housing projects of Pelagium, a large scale city that is built upon the large dome-like roof of the hub. Remembering how the clock-tower that started in the middle of the hub, piercing the roof so the residents on it could tell what time it is, you remember its low-humming chime that meant it was time for school or that you're parents were on their way home.

You also remember having "The Dream", everyone has it at one point, its like the puberty of Pelagium. The Dream is to finally leave Pelagium and finally see that huge world that you hear stories of, most end up succeeding in this ambitious endeavor at some point in their lives. But you however aren't so lucky. The Government has recently passed a new law, restricting those of birth in Pelagium to not leave the hub; unless they have a important reason to leave Pelagium... or a considerable amount of cash.

Unlucky for you, you have no such funds. But you might've found a solution, your father and/or mother have given you the old business, as they're are at retirement age but you aren't.

The World/Setting

The World: The World is just that: The World. It has continents, places, people, and things to discover throughout it and it probably has an actual name. But since your education was very limited about the world and it's histories outside of Pelagium, you really have no idea what its name is or even what it looks like. You have asked the travelers, but their responses and how it was formed are all different.

Continents:
-Patillbia: From what you've heard: It's a very large continent that takes up both the northern and western parts of The World. You've heard the stories of the beautiful and lush jungles that blanket the land mass like it was a blanket of green. But recently those stories have changed as you grew older, now you've heard of a deadly plague that have transformed the inhabitants there into the skeletal-men you see walking around the station now; and the jungles there have decayed into a purple mess of miasma and dry seasons.
-Golitian: From what you've heard: Is a large Pangaea that takes up the western and southern areas of The World. With it being a large rocky mountain area that has been turned into a gargantuan urban-sprawl, with smog constantly clouding the skies and the air quality getting worse with each passing day the people there have had to modify themselves in order to breathe the atmosphere. This is also where The Government rules.
-Pelagium: Is where you live (it shares the same name with the Station), while you don't know much about the continent other then from what you've seen when you visited the top of the clock tower. You know that the Pelagium is surrounded by water and has little to no villages outside your domain, it has rolling tan hills of wheat with the occasional tree sitting isolated from the world. Or the forests that patch the far southern corners of your homeland.

Races:
-Humans: They (like in all great fiction) are the bread and butter of this world, they are common, and come in all sorts of variations and colors.
-Bonemorrows: They are humans that have been stricken with a genetic mutation that originated from the plague that struck their land. They aren't contagious from what scientists have said, but they are still out cast from society. From what you've read in reports and the news, is that they aren't actually just a skeleton. Their muscles, organs, eyes, veins, etc... have just become transparent from their mutation. You're not sure if you believe that though.
-Automatons: They hail from the urban lands of Golitian. Due to the amount of pollution they have to deal they've modified themselves to look, feel, act, and adapt more like a machine that appears human. You can see the metal cogs that grind so they can move through their pale skin, you can hear the mechanical pumps that now pump blood into them instead of their heart, the metallic grind of something every-time their lungs expand or deflate. Needless to say they both sound and look cool, but something about them just feels uncanny. It might be the eyes.

Technology: Its a very contemporary modern day Earth-type of place. Technology is advanced. But not laser guns and advanced space travel, type of advanced.

Culture: Modern electronic-house and jazz is popular. And most of the culture has adapted that "modernist" urban artist appeal, due to the amount of urbanization The World has come under in recent years.

Music I'll Normally Be Posting:

All about shops and stores!

Examples of stores:

Convenience: You serve the people what they need, greasy foods that will destroy their digestive systems, diabetes inducing candies, snacks, fizzy drinks, and brain-freezing liquified ice drinks. Along with pumping gas if you decide to take that route.
Can Upgrade Into: Department Store, Pharmacy, Department/Pharmaceutical Chain, or Rest Station
Starts As: Corner Store, Mom&Pop Store, Gas Station, Drug Store, or Liquor Shop

Culinary: You serve people food, any kinda food of your choosing.
Can Upgrade Into: Restaurant Chain, Famous Restaurant, 5-Star Restaurant, Culinary School
Starts As: Chinese Restaurant, Buffet Place, Hole-In-The-Wall Place

You can do anything you want, if you want to sell records you can, if you wanna run a jazz club you can, an arcade? Sure. Noodle Shop, bet yer' ass you can.

Actions that can be done in them/Explained Rules

REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR ACTIONS IN BOLD!

Time: Your store will run on a strict and government regulated clock, you'll receive a schedule in the mail (start of the RP) of when you're allowed to prepare, allowed to open, and when you have to close up for the night. And each hour equates to 1 action.
Example: [Your schedule lets you prepare your store from 3AM-5AM. So you are allowed 2 actions, within these actions you can do whatever you need to do to prepare.]

Types of actions (EXAMPLES):

Cleaning: Yes, I know. Cleaning fucking sucks, but you're going to have to do a lot of it depending on what type of store you're going to be running. The more customers you have the more you'll have to clean and straighten up. Especially if you're running food shop.

Preparing: Preparing your store can mean a number of things. If you're selling anything, you want it to look nice, so you can straighten up the displays and rearrange things to make the store look better. But if you're making food, then preparing normally means you're preparing food and getting your stoves/grills/ovens warmed up and your utensils ready.

Selling: You man one of the cash registers and sell your goods.

Staffing:

This is where things get interesting, you can hire and fire both NPCs and PLAYERS to work at your store. NPCs and Players will be able to ask for their starting wage, the minimum wage (that the game begins with) is @4.50 (the at-symbol will be the currency symbol) that change over the course of the game depending on how the economy goes.

THE RULES (IC)

1. By Order of The Government Subsection C: You will not harm or murder another living creature, unless authorized or in self defence.

2. By Order of The Government Subsection A: You WILL NOT COMMIT THEFT OF ANY KIND

3. By Order of The Government Subsection D: You will pay your bills on the date permitted or face punishment

THE RULES (OOC)

1. Don't godmod... ever.
2. Try and keep your posts moderate when in the "off" hours of the RP, the "off" hours will be for you to explore the station and chat with other players or do actions that may or may not be work related.
3. Secret actions are allowed, PM me if you wish to do something against another player or if you're working on a secret project
4. Keep in mind that action and violence won't be a big part of the RP, use your wits and if you're confronted with combat try to talk your way out of a fight. Don't try to pick fights, you will die fast in this RP if you try to "cowboy it". (I use a D6 to calculate if you die, Red Rivers style)
5. The RP might get stressful, keep this in mind before and during the RP. The whole point of the RP is to make you feel like the character you're playing as. Things might get unfair when The Government starts pulling out laws out of nowhere. (you can vote against them, but you might not always win)
6. You can work for other players if you so desire, even when you own a business. But remember the dictate how much you'll get paid before starting the job. So don't bitch if they just pay you the minimum amount.
7. You can also buy things from other players, things like food, records, furniture, apartments, houses, etc... if there's a business that a player is running you can use it.
8. That being said, don't mark up your prices because you know another player will be buying from you.
9. Like Furaotic said, don't make me need to add more rules

What are the gun laws at? Are people allowed to conceal carry and if so, how many? If not, how many people say fuck it and do it anyway?
There is probably no more terrible instance of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.

At the start of the game, gun laws allow semi-automatics and burst-fire weaponry.

Certain Bills can be passed to allow for stricter control or more lax'd gun control. But the black market is still pretty big in the world.

Name: Parsel A'Ormen
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Race: Keotons (Talked to AJ about them, super family oriented species with 4 pointy ears, monochromatic eyes, and tails.)
Appearance: Parsel is a tad on the taller side at 5'9". Her short-ish hair is brown with flame red tips, and her eyes are wide and black. Her 4 ears are pierced, and the bottom left ear has a little nick in it. Her thin tail is long enough that it drags a little behind her on the floor, but with her limited control she usually keeps it a bit off the ground. Parsel's usual garb is her capri cargo pants and a tank top under a hoodie with some design on it, usually a musical one, along with sandals. Her top set of ears are pierced with simple studs, while the bottom remain unpierced.

Current Living Space: [Parent's House]
Money: @25,000
Inventory: {KeyRing} {Wallet} {Smart Phone} {Family Photo} {Semi-automatic Pistol}

Business Type: Culinary

Store Security: [Personal]
Store Income: n/a

A total of 16 people. Growing up was hectic, and so was life. While most of her people stick to their family groups, Parsel wanted to get away from all of it to explore the world.

BUMP

So I'm going to get a "section" of the maps done, one for where all the players live, one where they'll be setting up shop, and finally one for the forbidden basement area that contains random things.

I will never elaborate what's down there, but consider it a sort of dungeon that you can actively explore if you're willing. You'll be able to steal supplies, find secret routes into other stores or buildings if you're wanting to do some corporate espionage, or simply find stuff that'd be cool to sell.

Not a lot of people are really interested in a business running RP, so I might just launch it with you two. It might make for a better experience since the player rivalry will be much more defined if it comes to that, or if more players join then they'd end up being pawns. It's all up to you, but most are wanting Red Rivers to be ported over, and I just might do that. Since both this RP and that RP are equally small enough to run at the same time.

Well I don't see much competition between a music store and bullet proof clothing :p

But yeah, I'm cool with whatever comes up.

Name: Erika L'Hurim Devar Mollie Res'ban
Age: 32
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance: Erika, as she prefers to be called, has neck-length black hair that's usually tied into a bun. Her skin is light-brown, with wide eyes and black irises. She's had both ears pierced, and one in her nose that she regularly wears studs in. She's at average height and, while she doesn't look like it, she's rather strong. Her clothing, on most days, consists of a large black hoodie, a t-shirt, some jeans, and a pair of running shoes.

Current Living Space: [Parent's House]
Money: @25,000
Inventory: {Key Ring} {Wallet} {Smart Phone} {Liquor Distribution License} {Business Card} {Guitar Pick} {Some string} {A Paper Clip} {Pocket Lint}

Business Type: Convenience
Store Type: Liquor Store
Store Security: [Snub-Nosed Revolver]
Store Income: To be determined
Store Popularity: Unknown

Skills: [Bass Guitar] [Music Composition] [Tae-Kwon-Do] [Drink Mixing] [Medical Knowledge]
Traits: [Dexterous Fingers] [Good at Memorization] [Bad With Numbers] [Hypoglycemic]
Afflictions: Healthy
Backstory: Born as the only child of two parents, one heavy-handed father and one caring mother, she grew up knowing what it was like to always have the scrutiny of your parents. She had a lot of troubles that went unnoticed because of their policies regarding noise and constant pressure to continue her studies and become the doctor they always wanted. She studied, at times unhappily, and was in her second year in the city's university when her father came ill with a stroke. He was unable to run their store, and her mother had to be there to take care of him. Their only income was the store at the time, and so Erika dropped out of college to take ownership. Two years later, and he suffered another stroke, this time taking him to a better place. Now, she was the owner of the store, the deed passed to her from her father. Now, after eight years, she keeps both her and her mother afloat by selling liquor and defending the store from worryingly frequent robberies. Something about liquor stores just attracts them like moths to a flame.

The map for the RP is like totally done and I totally didn't not make one because I really want to start this but decided a map ultimately pointless unless more people join, I mean I'll publicly reveal it when my dumbass is done with it... all 3 maps of a small subsection that will be the basis for the game... its kinda like a DF map in that regard, with a larger map being in the background but you play in a small section of it. Where was I? Oh yeah, so I'm just going to use the age old GM excuse and say, but it's a secret until we get later in the RP.

So it will be going up tonight regardless if I have the map up or not.
