Joint Operation Legion
« on: January 23, 2017, 05:23:03 pm »
Black Hand has become an increasing menace to everyone. Yet none of us have managed to deal significant blows to the organization on our own. A cell here and there sure, but nothing large enough to actually hurt them. So we've agreed to pool our resources and information in order to deal with the threat.

Our first target is a low level leader, his cell is maybe twenty in numbers and currently believed to be on a trade station located in Mortalis space. He's a Terran, believed to be from the Black Hands anti-alien origins though most of his cell are non-terrans. Age is 35, name is Michael Stannov, criminal history before joining the organization was mostly targeted attacks on non-terrans and petty theft, spent four years in the Terran military. We know he has information that will allow us to hit more important targets who in turn may lead us to the head of the organization.

You've been selected to conduct this operation due to your differing backgrounds and capabilities. If you fail this operation and Stannov gets away or is killed we'll have to find another target which will take time, so bring Stannov in alive so we can interrogate him. Also you will be expected to work with members of the differing races, discrimination will not be tolerated by anyone in this operation. We are doing this to stop a threat to all of us, put your personal feelings aside and commit to the operation.

Not moved yet, but approved - I'd join with this guy. There's probably a few different ways he might have been brought on board or decided to get involved.

The shuttle docked on the Norenfal station the operation was being based out of. According to what you'd been told on the flight here this was a military station used primarily for resupplying ships. Whatever the purpose the plain white hallway waiting for you contained two armed Norenfal and two Terran soldiers. "You'll follow us, any deviation from our course will not be tolerated." One of the Norenfal stated before turning to walk down the hallway.

The doors on the other side opened as you approached and revealed a large open area where personnel from the various militarys were lounging about and playing cards together. The soldiers you were following continued into another hallway which brought you to an elevator. The elevator led you to another hallway where a few people were waiting.

The soldiers who had escorted you here stopped and one of the Terrans said "Command will brief you inside."

As you started down the hallway those who had been waiting walked through the doorway. Inside was a holographic display module that was showing the layout of the trade station. Representatives from the differing militarys involved were waiting.

"Please be seated and we will start the briefing."

Kiran's first thought as he entered the corridor was that the connections who'd got him thrown in with Operation Legion  hadn't done their research very well - the Norenfal troops assigned to escort him to the briefing hadn't made much more of an effort to hide their distaste for the presence of a Rastal than he had on seeing them. I wonder what the group figures we can accomplish here for the greater good that is so wonderful as to be worth associating with their kind.

His second thought was that he wished he'd left the massive P-48/66 back on his shuttle with his armour and the rest of his weapons. He'd strapped it to his hip as something of a reflex, being accustomed to dragging the impractical handgun around to official functions in his DSB days, but as it banged off the side of his leg with every step, he couldn't help but curse this pointless adherence to tradition. Passing through what appeared to be a barracks only reinforced this thought - though he wasn't overly impressed with their apparent state of readiness, the gathering of troops here was large enough that even the most suicidal of Black Hand attacks on the conference would have only slim chances of succeeding.

After a elevator trip, he and the escorts emerged out of what he assumed must be their final destination. One of the humans indicated that this was the place, and Kiran felt a release of tension as they and the Norenfal left him.

He slips into the room with the rest of the people waiting in the hallway, noting he is one of the few present who isn't wearing some form of uniform, and for a moment debates giving some form of salute as he enters the briefing room. Instead, he seats himself at the table with a small nod to those next to him, and awaits the start of the meeting.
Gone. Cheers guys.

A Norenfal wearing a deep red uniform stepped forward and  began speaking, with translators doing their jobs so everyone present could understand. "Hello, I am Vo-ren commander of this operation. You were given a brief summary of your target and we cannot provide any additional background information. Someone inside the Terran military scrubbed his record and removed him from as many public records as possible. What we know now is through intelligence channels that we cannot divulge at the moment."

Making a motion towards a console in the middle of the room and a hologram jumped to life displaying a Mortalis wearing a leather jacket, jeans, and hiking boots. "This is 'Mouse'. He provides fake identification that can fool a thorough background check as well as discrete transportation off of whatever planet or station he operates on. He has provided fake identification for our target and will know his location. The issue with finding him is that he went dark four days ago after an encounter with station security."

Motioning again the hologram changed to display the guarded entrance to a warehouse and he continued "We know this is where he operates his business. It's heavily guarded by hired thugs, out of service soldiers, anyone looking for a paycheck. Find a way in, be it blowing the front door in or infiltration it's your call. The only issue is we know that he still comes to the warehouse but we've been unable to ascertain the specifics of when and how since he's not seen traveling the streets anymore."

Looking over the group gathered he looked at the datapad in his hand before continuing "Okay, the team for this mission is Jonah, Kiran, our resident Norenfal medic Vo-tec, and the Mortalis demolitions expert Donovan, and the Mortalis Special Operations member Harris. Harris will be leading the operation so long as we determine his command capability is acceptable. Statements or questions?"

Jonah grunted and shifted uncomfortably in his seat as he heard that a Xeno would be leading this operation. He was already uncomfortable enough being a minority in this room but now he had to listen to one of those shifty, mask wearing Xenos. The only reason he even considered this plan was that he needed leads to the Black Hand terrorists and that he can no longer rely on his old contacts due to his new assignment.

"Fine. Let's just get this over with and deal with these dissidents and traitors."

Typical. Our Norenfal "commander" can't even bother to address his mixed taskforce in something we all speak. Kiran considers posing his questions in his own language as well, but puts the thought out of his mind - obviously petty.

"Two questions." he says, addressing the room in basic, "Is it wise to send us into a location where we will likely engage in combat, when we have no idea who our informant is, and might mistake him for a target?" He pauses for a fraction of a second, allowing the translator to catch up for those few, who, for whatever reason, don't speak the most common language in the galaxy. "Secondly, if you want these men alive, will you be providing some equipment to us with which to accomplish this? Perhaps some gas from our Mortalis comrades?" He motions at the others in the room. "I cannot speak for these, but I have nothing but deadly weapons in my current possession."

He debates also bringing up his discomfort with one of the most important members of the team being, essentially, a mortal enemy to him and his people, but holds his tongue. The Mortalis usually aren't bad sorts individually, and if the team lead is even remotely competent, things should go alright.

((Didn't we say that galactic basic was a thing but not super wide spread? Or am I just imagining things...))

The Norenfal listened to the translator as he relayed what Kiran had said. The translators then proceeded to relay his response "I apologize for the necessity of translators but I was raised by a family that viewed the need for galactic basic as a non-issue. As such my training and schooling was entirely focused towards what would be my job. As far as non-lethal weapons those will be provided, and the station security will provide you with any image they have of Mouse. They refused to relay said images to us despite orders from the Mortalis government. This leads us to believe, though we could not confirm it, that Mouse has friends within the station security force. We were going to have Harris brief you on any additional details he thought you would need to know while you are being transported to the station. Any additional statements or questions?"

Donovan leaned forward in his seat as he played with his combat knife and said in basic"Statement? I got a statement. Anyone fucks up this operation and the Black Hand get away I will personally gut them. I lost too many friends and relatives to these bastards to let this chance slip by."

Harris motioned towards Donovan and said "Calm down. We all need to work together to get this done and I want no fighting in the group. If you can't be civil I will personally see you off the team."

((Italics is internal thoughts, not spoken aloud, though I can just not use them if you prefer.

And I thought it was sort of the latin equivalent - not everyone in the Roman empire spoke Latin, but it's safe to assume anyone important did. Really, OOC, it exists more so that PCs can talk to eachother without translators.

Could just say the Norenfal are outside of the linguistic area that the ancient empire covered or whatever, or that this particular guy just doesn't know it. Or, we could just say that because most Rastal know at least a little basic, and important Rastal are fluent, that Kiran assumes this is normal for all races, even though it isn't. Doesn't really matter much.))

It seems like we should really be starting our hunt with the traitors. Mouse may be useful to this operation, but sedition is a dangerous thing when 'friends' stop co-operating. Kiran muses to himself. He makes a mental note to have his own contacts check into Mouse when he gets a moment alone, and see if he presents any threat to his other interests.

Though he is always keen on getting as much information as possible, after the outburst of the apparently rather explosive demolitions expert, he gets the idea more questions would not be too conductive, and simply nods his head instead.

I need to keep an eye on that one.

((I figured italics were internal thought, the Norenfal official mentioning he didn't understand basic was because it was being used, and whilst not being able to understand it he knew what language was being used.))

You were dismissed and sent to the ship that would take you to the station. The trip wasn't very long but boring none the less.

As you departed the station security force motioned for you to follow them for the standard weapons check. Harris shook his head and spoke in Mortalics "Here on official business. No security check." As he said this he showed the men a document.

After examining it they waved you through and Harris guided you to an open park like area that was seeing little traffic at the moment. Turning to all of you he said "I'm going to go speak with the head of security, Jonah and Donovan will be accompanying me. Kiran, take Vo-tec and see what you can find out from the locals."

Great. Kiran can't help but be less than pleased at the team assignments, but doesn't protest - it's a fairly logical division. At least the Norenfal are usually intelligent. "Right, then. We'll be in touch when we have some info, and meet back here."

He consults a map he'd uploaded to a small PDA, and begins walking casually towards the center of the station, blending with the sparse crowd moving around him. He takes a deep breath of the slightly stale air - his last several operations were somewhat more combat oriented, and it feels good to be able to walk around unencumbered by heavy armour and weapons. If it wasn't for the Norenfal medic following him around, and the large knife tucked tightly under his jacket, he'd actually feel pretty at ease. Of course, I might regret not bringing some proper equipment if trouble starts, even if it makes us stick out a bit.

He pushes the thought out of his mind, and slows up just enough for the medic to walk beside him. "Not too impressed with the level of intel on this one. I have a lead over in the residential district, but I'm not so sure they'd give you much of a welcome or appreciate your presence. Any other suggestions before we visit my 'friends'?" he asks, in passable but rusty Norenfal. Betting this one doesn't know basic either. Oh well, a little practice never hurt.

"Let's just get this over with." Jonah said with a displeased look on his face. Believing in prudence, Jonah kept his UTAF MKI armor on while escorting this Harris. The S.I.R. was strung over his shoulder while his left hand never left the top of his pistol.
