It does not rain nearly as often in washington as people all over the place believe it does. seriously. more than half of washington is desert where in hardly ever rains. The south-east and central southern portions are particularly dry, blasted, uninteresting, wastelands which looks as though they are just waiting for someone to set up a strip mine or for a fire to sweep through the dry brush that grows in some places.
As a Washingtonian I can confirm.
I can also confirm as someone who can use the internet for image searching.
I lived in that green bit in the upper right corner for most of my life. it looks green from way up there, but it is also desert. hot, unpleasant, filled with drunken native americans who hate descendants like myself. My childhood was unpleasant.
