He's lifting the veil to see that which should not be seen by mortal eyes. Unfortunately what's behind the veil often stares back with more eyes than you can even begin to comprehend.
Essentially it was a Lovecraft reference.
Also I suffer from incredibly frequent nightmares, started a few months ago and it's becoming more frequent as time passes. I'm more prone to nightmares when I'm in a bed with someone else, which is sort of unfortunate but at the same time sort of calming after I wake up.
The majority of my nightmares follow a theme of it being my best friend that's tried to cause something to harm or kill me, he's usually the first one I tell about these nightmares and we laugh about it for a little while.
Unfortunately these nightmares have been so severe lately that I've completely ruined my sleeping pattern and made myself pretty ill lately because of it, starting to recover a little bit now.
