Just wondering what you guys think of starting a Skype Group or an IRC channel just for Utterly Mad peeps. Technically there's already a Skype Group, so maybe people can just join that.
-
Pls dont do skype. It tends to freeze too much, and has many more flaws after the semi-recent update.
IRC Masterrace.
-
I'd say move to the IRC or another means of conversation. Skype nearly killed the computer I'm working on, and its a 50/50 shot for me if it works. Sometimes I'll get a flawless experience. Other times it just dies of a heartattack.
-
Skype.
-
Yo whats the IRC for this place?
-
There is no IRC yet I think.
-
ill throw us up an IRC later. lemme figure it out.
-
I personally prefer Skype just because is starts whenever I turn my computer on, but I can do that with my IRC client as soon as I get off my lazy ass. So, I'm cool with whichever.
Bear in mind: you can't have really goofy avatars in IRC. Jussayin'.

I may have found a solution... we use the forums and have both a Skype and IRC chat for the people that want both.

I like that plan.

i'd say IRC for the simple fact that I suck at pronouncing english

We don't do much calling in the skype, if that's any consolation. It's mainly done with text.

I like to call though, I miss our group being small enough to be able to video chat. :V
And hell you and Stopsignal could prolly talk to each other in spanish if y'all are on the call at the same time.

Rezzing this thread, because the issue doesn't seem resolved yet and I finally got around to figuring out IRC.
We'd need a channel, and for that we'd need to choose a network. CDDA runs on FreeNode, I've had a bit of experience in Quakenet, but for the most part all IRC networks are the same with some small differences usually regarding built-in bots.
After we pick a network, we need a channel. And a channel needs a name. #UtterlyMad works fine if that's okay with everyone. After that, we need some kind of bot or someone really dedicated to stay in the channel all the gosh dang time. If a channel is empty, it gets deleted from the list and everything associated with it (chat logs, admin information, probably bans) goes away.
Once that's all set up, we should have a proper IRC channel up and running 24/7. Hoo-raaay.
-
Ok. I tried to set up an IRC once. Hated it. That's another admin position though.
-
I can set up a IRC channel if you want me to!
EDIT: Here you go, IRC channel ready! https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#UtterlyMad
-
I'll join when I've actually got some time, right now I've got a bunch of stuff I need to take care of.

"#UtterlyMad Cannot join channel (+i) - you must be invited"
wut?
-
Oh wait a sec, gotta make it public
Here we go, just forgot to set the mode to [-i]
-
Cannot send to channel: #UtterlyMad
-
Fixed that too, already.
-
Necro-ing this thread because the IRC is way too quiet. Sometimes the channel goes days with less than ten messages sent between the people inside.
Pretty please join the channel and make this chat box be a little less lonely.
-
I'd love to join but IRC is new for me so could anyone help me?
-
Sure! The easiest way is to use a web client, like the one you can find here (https://webchat.freenode.net/).
The web client is a program that helps you connect to the IRC network, just like how Skype connects you to your friends. Clients can also be downloaded, and they tend to take up less RAM than a web client, but they're harder to set up.
After you get the window open, fill out the fields so that it looks like this.

You can, of course, change the Nickname to whatever you like, and don't worry about the auth to services box, just leave that unchecked.
After you fill out the captcha, and hit connect, you're in! Don't be afraid to say hi, there's usually someone around who's up for some chat.
