Yeah, can't come up with a good subtitle for this so...yeah, onto set up.
-------
Rules (though I doubt I need these...)
No godmoding
No killing another PC instantly without the players prior consent (I'll seek clarification from both players involved in this situation)
will add more if needed

Story/setting
It is the Second Era, Year of Ice. The Human empire is still in it's fledgling years, and the sentient undead have yet to form a larger nation, instead roving the land in large bands. The Dwarves have yet to consolidate into a unified empire, instead existing in several different kingdoms spread over a wide area. The Elves live as a single unified people, largely remaining in the woods that are their ancestral homes, however a few still go out to explore the world and see the state of things with the other races.
Still other races have begun consolidating into larger civilizations, but there are far too many for me to list in this simple tome of history. ((You can make your own races))
The magi of all disciplines, even the death tongues, have put aside their differences in an attempt to increase their understanding of magic, and with this agreement the final chapter of the Magi war closed. However the reprecusions of the war still resonate through out the land, and some subsects of the different disciplines still seek to fight a war that is now dead. And as always, there will be Magi who use their power for their own gain.
(((and that's what I can come up with for now. As always this universe is up for expansion by players and others, though I do retain the ability to declare something none cannon if it's too out there.)))
----------------------
Story (what we as players are doing...well at least for the start...yeah, trying to think this up is taking a while...)
Our adventurers were assembled by a member of the Red Hands to explore ruins recently purchased by the mysterious guild. They were to search the ruins and bring back any valuables, for which they would be compensated for with an additional bonus to go with their contract fee. However there is something odd about these ruins.
----------------------
basic set up done, nothing to in depth as this is going to be majorly free form.
CS
Name:
Race:
Age:
Appearance:
Armor/clothes:
Weapons:
Background: ((Not required))
-
Interesting, could I be a sneaky 3 foot rat thief?
-
yep, it's free form. I'm just waiting to see if there's interest before I make my character.
-
I have intrest, is this a steam punk thing or just fantasy.
-
It's high fantasy. There's magik, with a bunch of different 'disciplines', such as Mage Tongue, Death Tongue, and Scholar, though as I've said, it's pretty well free form.
On the steampunk: Not really, though since I allow primitive muskets you could have a steampunk version of those I guess.
-
So, high fantasy. Could I be an animate suit of armor? Might be fun.
-
Name: Restari Un Rasputaty de Musk. (Musk for short)
Race: Ratman
Age: 8
Appearance: Short 3 ft tall rat, he moves about mostly on all fours but stands and fights on two legs. Black stripe along the back and bright red eyes, he seems unhappy in direct sunlight and tends to wear a hood and mask to disguise his species.
Clothes: Elongated dog mask, brown and grey hood, black gloves and boots and a long leather overcoat.
Weapons: Ceremonial Rune Dagger, vial of instant smoke. Teeth and claws, bone dart blower and 12 bone darts, each with a bronze cap.
Backstory: To be revealed in story.
-
there are sentient undead, we have a moss that grows on dead people and becomes sentient, I think an animate suit of armor is fine.
Also, just a few notes since this is some cannon stuff: Sentient Undead are generally treated as less then any other being, except by elves, and are often used as slaves.
...actually thats it. I really don't have too much 'official' cannon.
Also, 8? Uh, really short life spans or just really young character?
-
Its a rat...short lifespan, probs only about 15 to 20 yrs.
-
I'll probably make a sheet tomorrow when it's not ass-o'clock.
-
Name: Cobalt
Race: Suit of Armor
Age: ?
Appearance: (http://i.imgur.com/q9LooAB.jpg) the hell is wrong with this picture?
Armor/clothes: Made of steel
Weapons: BIG FUCKING GREATSWORD, Tower shield
Background: Born from the soul and armor of a man named Ricard, who tried to overthrow his king but was cast into the void by the very powers he commanded. He stewed away, until he was offered the chance to return to the waking world in his old armor. He was found by a group of mages, and many years in the void changes a mans worldview, and as such he is currently running jobs for them until he can find his old king, and desecrate the shit out of his grave.
-
Name: Loranieus
Race: Human/Undead
Age: Died 220 years ago/1 month since Rebirth.
Appearance: Whatever flesh that was once attached to the flesh has long since been given as tribute to the natural order of things. There are, however, still a good portion of his brown hair left atop his skull. Loranieus in his living years was tall and quite large considering his height compared to those living.
Armor/clothes: Rotted Leather Boots, Rotted Pants, Rusty Iron Plate, Rusty Iron Helm
Weapons: Rusted Iron Halberd.
Background:
[I'm going to attempt to write some lore so slap me around if you don't like it] During his lifetime, Loranieus served in a long forgotten empire's army that had been attempting to take over a neighboring kingdom's land. The conflict had started over waterway rights on the Opex River, the regions major river network at the time. Loranieus was slain during that battle, fighting with his brothers in arms, when he took an arrow to the neck. Death had been quick for him but the same could not be side for the Empire he served for they had lost the battle and this lost battle marked the downfall to the Empire. Since then, there has not been a Human Empire that has reached a scale as large as it.
Loranieus was risen when grave-robbers discovered the mass burial site where he had been buried at and exposed his bones to the air. Soon after, the lichen that brings the death new life find its way onto his bones and his soul returned to his new form.

Quick question: How does magic work in this universe? Does it require ingredients to cast, or a mana pool, can it be done verbally, does it need a focus like a staff or wand or just your hands?

Quick question: How does magic work in this universe? Does it require ingredients to cast, or a mana pool, can it be done verbally, does it need a focus like a staff or wand or just your hands?
It should require hardcore tap dancing and the occasional John Travolta.
-
Time to begin the dance of a thousand skeletons.
-
A party member gets hurt, his cloaked friend taps his feet, wiggles his hips slightly and begins to point at yhe person and the sky alternatively. All the while he shouts "Ah hah hah ha, stay alive, stay alive. "
-
Lore wise the reasons for Sentient undead is wide and varied. In the original version Harrow was raised by several of his fellow Magi after he was purposefully killed, however he had refused to remember some of the events that had transpired.
We had a character (I think made by Hibou) who was raised by some kind of fungus or something like that.
And some of them are simply dead who refuse ot enter the gates of death and instead force their way back to life(usually pissing off a god or two in the process).
so a rare form of Lichen would work too.
Again, pretty well free form here, so feel free to write up lore if you want. I'll be posting a sheet tomorrow.
Magic techniques I've made
Mage Tongue (all users are born with an innate affinity to magic)
A complicated language that harness the power of the world around the magi and focuses it into the desired effect. often spells require chanting or a quick, precise sentence. Chanting can take a half minute to multiple hours, even days depending on the spell.
Death Tongue (all users are born with an innate affinity to magic)
To be a Death Tongue requires several years of devotion followed by a ritual in which they remove the acolytes tongue. Death Tongues devote their lives, bodies, and souls to their work, and as they practice their art they become more proficient. However some of the most powerful spells require days of meditation and ceremony.
Scholar Magic
Years and years of study have enabled those whom aren't naturally capable. This often requires ingredients and a device through which to channel this power. These are often staffs or wands. Their most powerful spells take days of ceremony and preparation to work.
And of course you could make your own.
-
John travolta tap dancing is the way to go, im tellinh you, not a single person would see it coming.
-
The tribal magic of dancing... I like it.

Name: Ragnan
Race: Horrifying Abomination
Age: ???
Appearance: Umm... Ok, lets start with whole-body features, then work our way from the head down. Ragnan has thick chitin skin, with slime oozing off of it, leaving a trail behind him. It seems to let him walk through webs. Many quills run along his body, acting as a self-defense system from melee attacks. A noticeable odor resonates from Ragnan. This same odor seems to act as a weak pheromone, making many insects identify him as an ally. The back of Ragnan's head bulges slightly, and he has a pair sphinx-like ears at the top of his head, and small, pointy horns sprouting slightly below them. He has a pair of large, red compound eyes, like those of a fly. He has simple dog-like whiskers, and his mouth protrudes slightly out from his face, surround by tentacles and flaps, along with sharp, venomous fangs within his mouth. A pair of gills run along his neck. On the back of his torso, he has a pair of beautiful butterfly wings, seeming out of place from the rest of his body. Near his buttox is tail with a sharp tip at the end, carrying deadly venom. Instead of fingers, he has sharp, gnarly claws. An acidic slime oozes from his hands. In the middle of his torso are a pair of thin insect-like limbs, only useful for carrying objects, and not much else. His feet to seem more padded and calloused then most people's.
tl;dr: He is a horrifying abomination. Luckily for those around him, he wears a concealing leather cloak at all times.
Armor/clothes: Thick leather cloak w/ ahood. Goes all the way from the head to the feet, with an extra inch or two dragging along the ground. Has many pockets.
Weapons: Steel bagh naka. Venomous fangs/tail, sharp claws, and small horns.
Background: Probably the result of a mage's spell gone horribly wrong. His unimaginably horrifying appearance has led some tribes of varying races to worship him as a god/demon, though. Chances are, whatever his origin is, nobody truly wants to know.
-
Rhodri, always gotta be dat monster man. Lol, love it Rhodri.
So you have a bad smell right? And I'm a rat person...with a rat nose...with good smell. I'm totally staying at the opposite end of the party as you. lol.
-
Good thing I don't have a sense of smell. My bony ass was dead for 220 years so smell is the least of my concerns.
-
Name: Vincent Hunter
Race: Human
Age: 24
Appearance: Six foot tall, with buzzcut silver hair. His left eye is blue while his right is silver. Noticeably his left ear is missing. Tattoos on his right arm form an intricate pattern with a few unrecognizable runes and symbols spread throughout the tattoo.
Armor/clothes: Thick leather chest plate, with leggings and helmet, though missing arm armor. Underneath he wears a simple sleevless shirt and a pair of old work pants, with his leather boots.
Weapons: An old wooden bow engraved with old runes and symbols, a short sword, arrows.
Background: To Be revealed
((Sorry for shitty description, just couldn't come up with much in the way of describing a human))
I'll post up the IC in a bit.
-
So Vulnus...how is this going to work?
-
well, we arrive whenever, we go in, we explore, and then it's pretty well anything after that. It's free form, so if you want something to happen make it happen, just no pulling a goblin army out of your ass or anything TOO ridiculous.
-
So, can I make up lore stuff for the Ratmen?
Like...there history and crud?
-
yeah, I've already said people can write lore.
-
Sweet.
-
Can I still make a character?
Because I want to make a floran from starbound...
-
...you can make something similar, but let's not be exactly like it.
-
But that would be too easy! Of course I wouldn't
Name: Sato
Race: Ginkgo
Race Info: The Ginkgo are a race of carnivorous sentient plants, they are allied with the elves and humans. Their main weapons are Spears, bows, knives, and machetes made of a bronze made from tin, copper, and bismuth which they call "Black Bronze" because of it's color.
Age: 27 years
Appearance: A 6'4 male Ginkgo with hair-like leaves on his head and sharp "Teeth" visible, his "skin" is a pine-needle blue and his eyes are jet black.
Armor/clothes: He wears a leather chest-plate with Black Bronze chains, a cured animal skin tunic, a pair of leather boots and gloves, a pair of cotton pants, a green hood, and a leather pack with attached quiver.
Weapons: A birch bow, a Black Bronze machete, 25 arrows, and a bone knife.

My first three or four days with that I logged about twenty hours. It's a great game, though I recommend trying to get a friend or two to play it with you.
