Okay before we get into this: This is a Choose Your Adventure thing, not an RP, nor a suggestion game. I've had no luck with suggestion games(more my fault then anything else), and I don't want to put this concept into an RP.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The long stone hallway gave me time to think. The long flowing robe that fluttered behind me was of a dark crimson color and I wore a set of a plain shirt and pants, with my forearm wrapped in a light blue cloth given to me by a dear friend. My leather boots made a clicking sound as I walked towards the door that would lead me the man who had summoned me.
I pulled the hood of my robe back as I neared the door, revealing my freshly shaven head and golden eyes. I still had the beard I had grown during my recently ended trek to the Great Library. I would have stayed much longer if I had not been summoned back.
I pushed the tall wooden door open and stepped through to see the King sitting on his throne waiting. His long white beard and hair told a story of a man who would have been far older then the King. He appeared to be at least sixty years of age, but in truth his years only numbered twenty-eight. The happiness usually present in his eyes was replaced with a look of deep thought and sadness.
I knew that something was most certainly wrong, and something severe. In my ten years of serving the King I had only ever seen him look like this once, when we went to war.
I caught all of this in a glance as I walked through the doorway.
Kneel before your King?
What is your name?
-
Daga Sloth.
I don't kneel, I bow.
-
You bow to the King who smiles in response. He motions for you to stand straight again and you do so. The King finally speaks, saying "There have been reports of odd things out near the edges of our territory bordering the Great Forest. Things that are of an unnatural design."
You look at him and ask "What, pray tell, is the nature of these things?"
The King proceeded to inform him of entire towns disappearing without a trace of anything, no fighting, and no trace of the town ever having been there. Then there were the tales of long dead people returning to life and walking back to their old homes. And the tales of the 'burning beasts' that devoured men and killed the innocent.
The King sighed and finished by saying "And all the patrols sent out to investigate have not returned. I fear that the magic of the Great Forest is being warped, and what that could mean I do not know."
You do not respond for a few minutes, the thoughts flashing through your head keeping your tongue still. If the magic of the Great Forest was being manipulated for evil, then the one responsible had no idea what he was doing. Even the necromancers had signed a pact to never manipulate the energy of the Great Forest, for fear that they could destroy the world as they knew it. That they could cause the beast that the Great Forest had been keeping imprisoned to be released, and then nothing could save the world.
Do you tell the King about the possible outcome if someone truly is manipulating the Great Forest's power, or do you try to ease his mind?
-
Tell him. Underestimating the dangers would lead to being unprepared for the dangerous possibilities.
-
You sigh and decide to tell the King the truth. "Sire, there is something I think you should know. If someone is manipulating the power of the Great Forest, there will be dire consequences. Whatever they are doing, it will not go the way they desire it to. They are tampering with something that even the necromancers agreed was too powerful for them to manipulate. Not only could it cause great damage, but it could release the ancient beast that was imprisoned in the Great Forest long ago. If they continue to manipulate it, then the bonds holding the beast will weaken and it will be able to break them."
The King closed his eyes and considered it for a few minutes, the words that you had just spoken hanging in the air. Finally he speaks and says "So, this matter must be resolved immediately lest great damage is done. I am afraid I must send you to take care of this, as none of my men know magic or intricacies. No, this will require a magi's hands and expertise to deal with."
You nod and say "I understand, I will gather what I require from my quarters and I will leave to handle the matter."
With that you take your leave, with the King bidding you farewell and good luck. You head to your quarters and take your spell book, a simple dagger, and your bag of supplies that you always kept ready. As you go to leave one of the soldiers leans against the doorway and asks "Daga, my friend, I heard you being assigned this mission. I'd like to offer you my aide, if you will take it?"
You recognize the capable Johnathan in his metal armor. You remember how quickly he rose in rank and proved himself one of the most skilled swordsmen you had ever met.
Do you accept his offer?
