Feel free to post theories, rumors, and what have you about Fallout 4 and anything else we got.
-
Its gonna be good. also, way back a long time ago, Three Dog's voice actor confirmed he was working on another Bethesda game.
unpopular opinion, Fallout 3 was better than New Vegas in certain ways. Better world, better Asthetics. it had a real since of place that New Vegas doesnt. but, New Vegas has better story and Characters, so its kinda a toss up.
-
I don't think thats an unpopular opinion, Fallout 3 did have a far better aesthetic than New Vegas did and generally just felt better.
Although I must admit that I did like more of the characters from Fallout 3 than I did with New Vegas. Except Ulysses, because he's the best Fallout character ever.
Also it appears the Steampunk theme rumours I heard for Fallout 4 were in fact correct, FUCK YEAH!
-
As someone who played the original Fallout games before Fallout 3 in like 2004, I just generally disliked how literally every major plot point from the West Coast was hamfistedly transplanted over to D.C. with some real threadbare explanations for it. And the ending blew ass, then they made you pay for one that didn't completely suck. At least they released Broken Steel for free later.
It did pave the way for New Vegas, which was just more mechanically fleshed out in every single way with better continuity and a far better selection of DLC as a whole, even if that game had it's own disappointing aspects.
Kinda sorta really wish they'd get a new engine, though. I get that they're already really familiar with Gamebryo, but it's getting really long in the tooth now.
Maybe with Fallout 4.
-
I like Fallout 2 (Fallout 1 is meh) and Fallout 3. I'm kinda with hobo on the not distinct enough train, but I have yet to play a Bethesda game I hate. Even Skyrim, their weakest game, still sucked me in for hundreds of hours. Dare to be hopeful dude.
-
Bethesda's games suck me in for hundreds of hours only after the modding community has had their way with it. I generally can't stand their products unmodded. Too many little things that build up into one big ball of shit that takes me out of the experience.
-
eh, I didn't like the green filter ON EVERY FUCKING THING in FO3. Nor the orange filter on New Vegas.
-
Apparently slapping an ugly color filter over everything is a good idea. And then someone made Fellout and all was well.
-
I hated the green filter over everything in Fallout Three, I actually liked the Orange filter in Fallout New Vegas. It fits with the thang.
-
Bethesda's games suck me in for hundreds of hours only after the modding community has had their way with it. I generally can't stand their products unmodded. Too many little things that build up into one big ball of **** that takes me out of the experience.
Ehh, I'm enough of a Fallout dork to enjoy any Fallout product (except Fallout 2, because its required to play it with the restoration project nowadays) unmodded. I mean I played the PS3 versions of both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and I guess I got off lucky with both because I only suffered 3 bad crashes in 3 after about 10+ hours of gametime. And New Vegas crashed on me 15+ times, but I still managed to get past it due to the setting.
I mean I probably failed 8th grade because of both these games, and I know, I fucking know that Fallout 4 will actually be the death of my life. Then after the hype, newness, and all that settles, I'll probably bitch about the game until I decide its the best Fallout (which it hopefully is). I mean Skyrim sucked hours of my life away for 9th Grade, but I only put 60 hours into until I jumped to the xbox version and eventually to the PC version. I mean my old Fallout 3 and New Vegas saves on the old PS3 that I have collecting dust in my closet, before it died I had both 120 hours on both, and that's not including the first playthroughs on both which were easily 80+.
But here's the funny thing, even to this day, I never had the heart to beat New Vegas. I always pledged that I'd beat the main storyline only after beating Lonesome Road, and when Lonesome Road hit life happened and I wasn't able to purchase or get around to it. And I never rebought the game until I went to PC, I mean I still got the old game sitting somewhere, still in its sleeve along with three. That being said I'm currently working on finally beating the fucking game since I got the collectors edition a while back, my only problem now is mainly from all the crashes due to the retarded amount of mods I have.
And it didn't start crashing until I added on the damned NVSE lighting mod, and I'm actually thinking about disabling it due to all the shit its caused. I mean that interior lighting overhaul comes with a better pipboy light option; so I might just do that and hope my game doesn't eat shit. Or it might've been because I played the game for 15+ hours and my computer was getting sick of having to run it... or maybe it was Project Nevada.
Also speaking of Pipboy lights, I noticed on the Fallout 4 Pipboy that there's a big-ass light bulb on it. So maybe it won't be as shitty this time around.
-
But guys, if it's set back in the West Coast then ANDROIDS.
-
I feel like I get gunshy of being able to actually finish the main storyline of any RPG nowadays. I think Mass Effect 3 has scarred me for life.
-
The thing is that I'm not expecting a perfect product out of Fallout 4. Bethesda have never been remotely capable of that, but it'll be good enough for me to enjoy it, to feel as if it was definitely worth it. Why? Because I enjoy the series, I don't expect it to be the best game ever made, I don't expect it to work properly on release* and I'm not expecting it to have some incredibly innovative feature that's never been seen in a game before. What I expect is a game set in a universe that I enjoy exploring with a storyline that I'll enjoy because it's happening in that universe, even if it's not always the main storyline, which lets be honest shouldn't entirely be how to judge a FO game. I enjoy the setting they've created and I'm willing to overlook some shortcomings and give Bethesda some leeway whenever they create something new in that universe for me, regardless of if it was a stupid 2D platformer.
This is entirely the reason I enjoy TES games, yes they're not perfect but I enjoy the setting and the lore, every little bit of it. That's where I find my enjoyment in the series and the same is probably true for most people.
*What I mean by that is that it'll work, unlike Battlefield, it'll just be a little unstable in certain areas and some things will need to be ironed out as they come up.
-
That's why I can't really bring myself to enjoy Bethesda's newer stuff without mods. There's a severe lack of compelling content that would make me want to overlook the glaring mechanical flaws their games have. Not enough characters that aren't cardboard cutouts beyond the select chosen few that reoccur in pretty much every game. Not enough interesting actual choices or alternate solutions in their questlines that doesn't invariably devolve into some kind of combat. There certainly are standouts such as the Thieves' Guild in Oblivion, but all these do is make it so much more obvious to me how much the rest of the content in the game is unsatisfying filler.
This is the same reason I couldn't keep playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. The stark contrast between the interesting personal storylines each class has and all of the garbage filler that every MMO always contains put me on this roller coaster experience where I'm alternating between being totally involved and slogging through uninteresting crap and wishing I was playing something else.
The ****ing quest markers in their post-Morrowind titles is also a big contributor of this, removing much of the element of personal discovery that made older RPGs so great. Turning quest markers off doesn't help because in most cases they don't have enough details that make it possible to actually navigate to quest objectives without them.
Skyrim was the post-Morrowind game of theirs that I actually played for a significant length of time without hating my life or feeling compelled to mod the hell out of it, and for that, I give it props, even if in hindsight it also was loaded with flaws and suffered from oversimplification.

Well, Peri and I had a discussion on a fallout GURPS thing, He's making it.

That would explain the "Non-Steam Game" part of it.

Not to mention it wouldn't have closed beta in the game title.

Here have this:

Here's this
http://store.steampowered.com/app/377160/
-
I find it hilarious that it's already up for pre-order AND is in the Steam top sellers list, yet we still know nothing concrete about the game. Can't people at least wait until after E3? The game isn't going anywhere.
-
We've waited seven years since the last fallout game. People are excited, this is going to the biggest game at E3 (Next to the new DOOM of course)
-
Actually, it's been less than five years since New Vegas originally released. And what's one more week to wait out of hundreds before throwing money at it?
Well, at least Steam actually has a refund policy now, I suppose (thanks, Europe!), but I wish people wouldn't encourage this excessive pre-ordering.
-
I'm generally against pre-ordering unless there's enough information about a game to know you'll enjoy it and pre-orders are what's funding the further development of the game.
So basically I'm against pre-ordering Fallout 4. However the only thing that's stopped me from pre-ordering it is that I'm unsure if my computer will be able to run it until I upgrade it, whenever that will be. The only reason I'd be okay with pre-ordering Fallout 4 is because I know I'm going to enjoy it.
But yeah, mindlessly pre-ordering things is ****ing stupid because it's 100% of the time more expensive than waiting like a month or two until after the game has come out and often times you don't really get anything worth the extra money.
Also I will find it the most hilarious thing if it turns out Fallout 4 has gone back to it's turn based roots, almost completely abandoning the new gameplay mechanics developed for Fallout 3 & NV. The incredible amount of people who have likely never actually seen Fallout 1&2 much less know what they're like, who will then proceed to lose their shit will be the best thing that has ever happened.
-
There will be a Classic Mode, A.K.A. The first 3 fallout games.
-
Oh shìt, really?
Thats awesome
-
I have absolutely zero faith that Bethesda will be able to pull off something like that properly. They have literally never done a turn-based isometric view game before, and I feel like them trying to do it is just going to dilute the final product and make both modes of play worse off.
If the 'Classic' mode is even true, that is.
-
Oh shìt, really?
Thats awesome
Allegedly. If it is true, we need to sacrifice something to Wilson, because he would clearly be a prophet. Also, speaking of bethsoft, did you know that their first games were Sports games and terminator spin offs?
I'm going to put a stupid ammount of time into fallout 4, simply because I have yet to play a Bethesda game I hated, or even strongly disliked. Skyrim wasn't all that bad, despite all of the problems it has. Fallout 4 will be no different.
-
I am of the personal opinion, probably an unpopular one, that the fallout 4 teaser trailer was nothing special. Just more of what Ive seen in other fallout trailers. Doesn't mean I wont try to get it though.
-
Its just exciting because it has been 5 years since the last Fallout game.
Speaking of, i got NV and have been playing the Dust mod. great mod. might LP it.
-
Has it really been five years since NV came out?
looking it up, holy **** it was. weird. It seems like yesterday that it came out. Hopefully it won't be broken at release. Like skyrim.
-
I loved vanilla fallout 3 excepting the ending, and same for NV, guess I'm a bit more lax on certain things.
-
I've not checked out the Dust mod yet although I've heard some pretty great things about it, I've looked into it and from what I can tell it feels like what I wanted FNV to be, close to what I've got close to a hundred different mods to turn FNV into.

I love the art style, I LOVE the look at the prewar areas, and that combat demo gave me a nerd boner. Lets go.
-
Yep this game is actually sex
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH8HGslrINU
-
Don't forget they also released a phone game that looks promising as well where you run your very own vault. Bethesda needs to stop giving me boners, else I'll need to go to the hospital.
-
IF YOU BUY A COLLECTERS EDITION, YOU GET AN ACTUAL PIPBOY! NOT A CLOCK, A FUNCTIONING ONE YOU PLUG AN IPHONE IN AND USE WITH CUSTOM SOFTWARE. Bethesda, I regret ever doubting you.
-
Just watched the crafting trailer. I love weapon and armor customizing like that. Bethesda, please, please let me play this soon. I don't care how buggy or cheesy it is, GIMME.
-
It'll work with all phones, not just the I-Pone (Its the game that'll be IOS only). Also I plan on getting the pip-boy so bow before me mortals!
-

Downloading it, and yes it's on Android. I'm downloading it right now, also I don't know what to

I cannot wait.
What day does the war in Fallout take place on? They should release it then.

Its coming on on November the 15th of this year. Hopefully no delays.
-
I would be down with an October 23 release date. I don't care how buggy it is, I can fix it later.
Also, I'm going to super seriously learn to mod it, and I'm making something cool. Mecha?
I'm SOOOOOOO exicted for this.
I felt like shit earlier today, THANK YOU Bethesda.

You ninjas me.
If no delays, I will be really happy. Also, I just read that you get a melee attack to smack people with your guns. And to bayonet them.
-
Alright Fallout 4 has actually gotten me out of my creative rut, I'm going to put on the rumored soundtrack and pump out stuff and get to work on some other stuff.
-
Im going to be honest, my expectations for Fallout 4, or at least what I hoped it would be, were almost unreasonable.
It looks even better than I was hoping it would be.
I've never been more excited for anything in my entire life.
CUSTOMISABLE JETPACK POWER ARMOUR.
Its like they looked at every single popular mod for Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 and thought "Yeah, that's great, that's what players want, lets make it even better so modders don't have to add it in later" and then threw a load more shit in that we didn't even know we wanted until now.
THE HYPE TRAIN HAS LEFT THE TRACKS, FLEW INTO SPACE AND IS FLYING THROUGH THE UNIVERSE FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT RIGHT NOW.
Also Perigrin, look at the way Power Armour works in this version, Mechs are certainly not an unrealistic expectation, perhaps even being included in the vanilla game, but certainly moddable.
-
If no one else does it, I will. Also, I was talking to AJ earlier, and it can't be that hard to convert the system to, say, cars. My expectations were low, after Skyrim being sub par, 4 years of no games, and fallout NV being better than three, i set my sights low so i wouldn't be disappointed. After the first trailer, i was on the hype train. Now, I'm flying through space with Siege. I cannot wait for this. The gun customizing reminds me of loadout. Also, IS THAT TROY BAKER VOICING THE PROTAGONIST.
-
Also, you get to fly around in vertibirds.
-
Hey guys, the hype is starting to wear off.... I hope that nothing gets cut out.
Remember how Skyrim was supposed to have an active economy system? Remember fucking Oblivion's radiant AI? Remember how Fallout 3 was supposed to have 200 endings, and how Skyrim had infinite quests ((Not really a lie, but the quests were just WoW quests. Kill 15 bears get a potion.))?
I mean there is video displaying all these systems so it does keep me optimistic, but hype juice is wearing off and brutal ToddHowardReality is starting to sink in.
-
Stahp.
We will love it anyway.
And what gets removed, we shall re add.
Better than before.
-
I was expecting Siege to be the realist here (or myself) but surprisingly it came from Aj-Chan. While everything you said is true, they showed all the systems to such an excellent degree it would be paramount to suicide if they removed any of it. They would die if this thing didn't live up to its hype.

I can be rational as a Fallout fanboy, the only reason I said that is because my Fallout 4 playlist stopped.
Also hopefully this is on one of the radios:

I mean they've had this song in like three trailers but never in the main game.

I just wewatched the trailers, and noticed something. bits were flying off of buildings. DESTRUCTABLE ENVIRONMENTS.
also, i love the colorful style the game has going, after 3 and NV im sick of brown.
I also saw a Synth, so we get to blow robots up.

I came in here with the intent of stating that after watching the gameplay from E3, I dont like it. and then I saw the article wilson linked to and am placated somewhat.
-
You didn't like what you saw at E3?
-
I kinda like the fact that you can take down some items in the world and use them, but taking out that pile of tires and looked like a whole house. I really hope that the deconstruction isn't that OP and actually takes a little bit of time, instead of just poof the whole house is gone and is now instantly wood planks or something.
-
Yeah I'm hoping they just sped that up for demo purposes, but if not it shouldn't be too difficult to change. I can see why they have, for simplicity of game plays sake, few people are going to enjoy having to meticulously pull apart an entire house.
What I would prefer was if at least parts of the house were left standing, because obviously some parts are going to be unusable, although that seems as if it would be a bit of hassle.

Or you can take down a house bit by bit, like making a rough square in the wall. So it not only looks like you are realistically taking down a house, you could also make a window to snipe some enemies.
-
I just want them to hire better writers(ahh, wishful thinking) and NOT use dialogue d-pad in PC version.
I mean, fuck, after Fallout 3 I really am afraid of what kind of shit will they write this time. I doubt it can rival the almighty Purifier in stupidity, but it's Bethesda. You can expect anything from them.
-
story is unimportant. the gameplay looks good, and the world looks good.
and, really, who plays a bethesda game for the story?
you play it for the individual moments, and you makke your own story. i love oblivion to pieces, and put probably 2000 hours into it, but i only did the main quest once.
-
Yeah the D-Pad style dialogue isn't looking too good, although given that conversations no longer lock you into a menu I'm guessing the change was probably necessary and that was the best way they could think to implement it. I'm wondering if that locks you to only 4 replies at a time though, or if there'll be a 'more' option to cycle through reply options.
Given how moddable the Creation Engine is then it's quite likely that mods will be made for it though, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Creation engine
(https://img.4plebs.org/boards/s4s/image/1405/77/1405776813709.jpg)
It's Gamebryo.
We all know it's Gamebryo.
There are even firearm parameters available in Skyrim editor.
-
You didn't like what you saw at E3?
I've had time to think about it and retract my remark. what I didn't like was the bethesda reps talking. Having someone trying to sell me their game is annoying. I know I know, its E3, the entire point is to show off and sell the product to investors, but still. The cheering in the background was even worse. The only bits I didnt like about the trailer they showed itself was the lack of dialogue options an the fact that the main character talks to himself.
Part of the fallout/TES appeal is the immersion. Having the character speak takes you out of the immersion by disabling your ability to overlay your thoughts and motivations with the motives of the character. What was the motive of the characters in other fallout/TES games? whatever your motives were. Your character was a digital representation of what you wanted that character to be. By giving the character a personality of his own and introducing limited dialogue options, you take away the players ability to come up with a character that is truly their own, and a part of the immersion is lost.
As a side note, I cant stop thinking of the character from the fallout 4 trailer as "the investment banker"
-
Never found that to be an issue in the Mass Effect games. Mostly because the characters in those games are generally written so much better than any of Bethesda's stuff. Hopefully this time around they sort out that glaring weakpoint, but the E3 presentation wasn't exactly encouraging in that respect. I liked what I saw of the mechanical groundwork, but the personality surrounding it, not so much.
-

The problem is that with this move Bethesda essentially kills any possible freedom of RP which Fallout is very well known for.
Hell, it renders good old 1INT retardo playthrough nigh impossible for obvious reasons.
-
Nah the Creation Engine isn't Gamebryo, it's similar IIRC but I'm almost certain that they're two distinct things.
Or at least the Creation Engine is different enough from Gamebryo that it warrants having a different name.
I am also somewhat unsure about giving the character a voice, I mean sure, it's a nice touch I guess but it does make it more difficult to project a specific character onto the character you've created. That is unless they give an option to turn the voice acting off, which I think they probably will.
-
If they give the option to turn it off, that would be great.
-
Nah the Creation Engine isn't Gamebryo
It's literally the same engine with some polish. The only noteworthy difference is sort of different scripting system which is also obtuse and frail as fuck in comparison to FO3 version. Oh, and a hardcoded limiter for creature skeletons that makes it almost impossible to implement new ones.
If they give the option to turn it off, that would be great.
I bet it will be the first mod after making dog non-essential.
Well, granted that Bethesda won't try to pull some new horseshit regarding modding.
-
I looked it up. The Creation Engine does in fact use parts of Gamebryo. So yes, it's technically a different engine and a polished up version of Gamebryo.
Realising that, I would have much preferred that they used a different engine, however they've most likely modified it a bit further than what they did with Skyrim, perhaps improved it, probably made bits of it worse.
