Title: Juggernauts: A game of Train Combat
Post by: Perigrin on June 13, 2015, 02:35:09 am
Many years past, the world was peacefully ruled over by the kingdom of Grotzmier. They dominated all of the known lands with their mighty Juggernauts. Massive steel machines, capable of mounting a large amount of weapons and armor, and moving at great speed. This peace did not last. The technique to construct Juggernauts was stolen by the Free Frulan League, and quickly spread. As war tore the lands in pieces, each duchy declaring themselves independent and constructing Juggernauts of their own, The Gray Men appeared. Ghostly figures, they brought their own Juggernauts to battle. Now, the world is a shell of its former selves. Many People live in fortified cities, and in Colossal CityNauts, capable of moving an entire city. War still rages for sparse stores of coal for fuel, and parts to repair Juggernauts. This is the world you were born in. By hook or by crook, you are now a freshly minted Captain of a Juggernaut.
Ok, now that the mood setter is out of the way, on to the knittygritty. This will be a very structured RP with an emphasis on combat. It will have some room for RP, and a whole lotta massive fighting.
Charsheet (Captain) Name: Home: Appearance: Backstory: Piloting skill: (leave at 1) Gun skill: (leave at 1) Talking skill: (leave at 1)
rest will arrive tomorrow, I just wanted to get something out tonight.

Juggernaut Sheet (I'm gonna be brief here, most customizing will be later.) You get ten points to distribute to the following attributes. Armor: (Hit points, and how many primary guns you can have) Speed: (Move speed, attacks a turn, evasion, and the amount of secondary weapons) Crew: (Crew skill, boarding ability, tertiary weapons, and foot mission skill) Now, weapons. There are three weapon sets for a juggernaut. First, primaries. These are things like Mega cannons, Massive machine guns, 900 shot rocket launchers, designed for the express purpose of killing juggernauts. Second. Secondaries. These are things like cannons, mortars, missile launchers, and autocannons that can hurt a juggernaut, but less so, and are also useful against other units Third, tertiaries. These are things like rifles, machine guns, shot guns, and grenades. They are designed to deal purely with borders and away missions. Primaries do normal damage to juggernauts, twice damage to vehicles and buildings, and sextuple damage to humans. Secondaries do half damage to juggernauts, full damage to vehicles and structures, and triple damage to infantry. Tertiaries do 1/32 damage to juggernauts, 1/8 damage to buildings, half damage to vehicles, and full damage to humans. Damage is resolved by rolling a d20 and adding multipliers. To hit is determined by rolling a d20, adding modifiers, and comparing it to the evasion of the target. The weapons you can buy at start are Primaries: Meganthian cannon (+2 damage, -2 accuracy), Reikspiltar Machine gun (no change, twice the attacks a turn), Hwgatha 150 rocket launcher (-2 damage, +2 accuracy) Secondaries: Sthug cannon (+3 damage, -3 accuracy) Fredburg Mortar (+2 damage, has minimum range of 5 squares, no change in accuracy), Mysdrivious missile launcher (no change), Catchkan Autocannon (-1 damage, -1 accuracy, twice the attacks a turn). Tertiaries: Crak Rifle (No change) Grendal Autorifle (no change in damage, -1 accuracy, twice the attacks) Bomsti Shotgun (+3 damage, -3 accuracy), Mecnar Grenade Rifle (+5 damage, -5 accuracy, has minimum range of 5 man-squares) You get Primary weapons equal to your Armor, Secondaries equal to twice your speed, and Tertiaries equal to ten times your crew. HP is equal to Armor times 30. each juggernaut has 4 slots for modules that add unique abilities. These must be found or scavenged. Give a description of what your Juggernaut is named, its back story, and its appearance.

Charsheet (Captain) Name: Rhodri Kraakman (For the sake of not having to come up with an original one) Home: Hectoton Town (A CityNaut) Appearance: An average man. He stands at 5'11, and has brown hair, and a full beard. Both are dirty and unkempt. He also has brown eyes. He wears a leather duster to look as badass as possible, along with a filter mask and welding goggles, with the top of his head being covered by a leather cowboy hat. Why a cowboy hat? Why not? The leather matches his brown hair/eyes. Seriously, the only parts that isn't brown about him are his skin, the goggles and the hoodie he wears under his duster. (His pants are also brown leather.) Even his gloves and boots are brown. C'MON RHODRI WEAR SOMETHING OTHER THAN BROWN. Backstory: Ever since he was a young child, Rhodri dreamed of being captain of a Juggernaut. A bit more than a decade later, he and anyonedangerously idiotic brave enough to join him spent many months constructing their own juggernaut based off of a stolen blueprint. Thus begins the story of Rhodri and his suicidal crew aboard "The Clunker". Piloting skill: 1 Gun skill: 1 Talking skill: 1
Juggernaut Sheet Armor: 4 Speed: 2 Crew: 4
Primaries: 1 Meganthian cannon, 2 Reikspiltar Machine guns, and 1 Hwgatha 150 rocket launcher Secondaries: 2 Catchkan Autocannons, 1 Fredburg Mortar, 1 Sthug Cannon Tertiaries: 12 Crak Rifles, 14 Grendal Autorifle, 8 Bomsti Shotguns 6 Mecnar Grenade Rifles, Named "The Clunker" for it's slow but heavily armored build, it was built by Rhodri and his crew over many months. It has an appearance similar to if someone took a battleship and gave it tank treads (and a bit more guns). It sacrifices speed in the name of pure devastating firepower and armor, ensuring that while it may not be great at chasing other Juggernauts, it will keep other Juggernauts from chasing it.
Hatches are built into the sides of the Juggernaut for firing tertiaries and smaller secondaries. Larger secondaries and primaries have "rooms" built into them from which they can be controlled, akin to armor that protects people firing turrets IRL.

Dallas Raus Home: Hectoton Town Appearance: A lean, mean captaining machine. Dallas is young, spry, and beneath his stocky figure is an iron core, red hot with the energy of a life lived recklessly. His hair is a fair chestnut color, with his hair tied back in a stout ponytail. His face bears a perpetually stubbly chin, and his eyes are a muddy gold. Backstory: Dallas was grew up always knowing the rumble of the 'Naut beneath his feet. To him, it was like a heartbeat, a simple fact of life, without which the world he loved could not exist. He grew up in his ramshackle home, tucked away beneath the deck, always covered in the soot and oil and blood of the machine he called home, and he loved it. He was to grow up to be like his parents, mechanics for the 'Naut, but he dreamed of something more. Scraping together what he could, and maybe stealing a part or two, he put together a machine worthy of bearing the name of a Juggernaut. Piloting skill: 1 Gun skill: 1 Talking skill: 1
The Silver Bullet Armor: 1 Speed: 6 Crew: 2
Primaries: One Meganthian Cannon Secondaries: Six Catchkan Autocannons, four Fredbug Mortars, Two Mysdrivious missile launchers Tertiaries: Fifteen Bombsti Shotguns, Five Grendal Autorifles.
The quickest, slickest, side-windiest 'Naut on the turf. Her enemies only get to see a flash of steel and a puff of gunpowder before it's all done. Well, that's what Dallas likes to say to whoever's listening in the local bar. She's a fairly new Juggernaut, quite light and maneuverable, and has spent the majority of her life hung up in the dock of Hectoton, being added to and improved on by Dallas and his small group of friends he calls a crew.
Her body isn't painted, but instead proudly displays its polished steel skin. She's shaped much like the locomotives of a bygone era. (http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr1102/lv2101.jpg) Her cannon is mounted just at the front of her body, and her secondary guns all line the sides, pointing out perpendicular to her body when not in use.
EDIT: Switched out the Juggernaut name for something more fitting.

Dont forget weapon numbers Wilson. Also, neat tidbit, i was inspired to make this by a book i read 5 years ago, and was playing Guns of Icarus when i remembered it like a bolt, and how cool it was. It was called Worldshaker, and while I would describe the Juggernaut in the book as a CityNaut by this RPs definition, it still gave me the idea. link to summary of book http://librisnotes.blogspot.com/2010/07/worldshaker-by-richard-harland.html also, check it out on amazon, my memory is a bit fuzzy on the details, but i remember it being pretty good.

When I read through this concept I was reminded of a similar book series called the Hungry City Chronicles (https://www.goodreads.com/series/43859-the-hungry-city-chronicles), about a bunch of basically towns and cities on treads that ate smaller towns/cities for fuel and goodies. They're a pretty good series of books, even if they don't focus on the cities so much as the adventures of one guy on those cities.

You are Squadron 7, in service of her lady Empress Zidia Engroyl. A small and new Juggernaut squadron, you have just met. you are currently in a pub aboard the CityNaut Worldshaker. you have a few hours to burn before shipping out to your first engagement. you can VISIT THE MARKET PUB CRAWL LOOK FOR RECRUITS VISIT THE HANGER (this will be a hub of kinds, you will come back after each mission to repair, rearm, sell Salvage, equip new items, and gain new missions)

The Chicken-Kin shall search for more recruits to join him in the glory of battle, boarding ships and stabbing people.

Rhodri searches for the most suicidal of people to attempt to recruit, as they are the most likely to be have enough of a lack of care about their lives to join him.

It's his first mission, might as well make it a good one. Dallas puts on a shirt he won't mind spilling beer on and goes to do some PUB CRAWLING.

Fuck, fell asleep while writing this Last night. Lorknis, Rhodei, Wilson. You quickly stumble onto a hiring hall for juggernaut crewmen. Sadly, they all want money up front, and you don't have enough money to pay a mans monthly wage up front, but you will after your mission. Hibou. Rolls You wake up upside down in a barrel, missing your shirt, but with a small amount of money you did not have last night. You can't remember anything past the fifth drink.

Dallas laughs to himself and leans forward, making the barrel fall over. "I'm gonna remember this headache, for sure..." he says. With a grunt, he picks himself up and heads back to his base of operations to get a clean shirt and report for duty.
