Title: Forum DnD Game
Post by: RedVulnus on July 21, 2015, 01:15:03 am
Well maybe not DnD but something we're all able to find and look at. Suggesting this because I think it'd be interesting even though it'd require a bit of effort on all parts. Thoughts? Yay, nay? If yes What system? Who's going to DM it?
Just putting this out here since it's something I think quite a few of us would be interested in doing.

I would recommend Pathfinder, I can find a PDF, and, while I would rather not GM, I will if no one else wants to.

...as someone who attempted making a sheet before finding out I'd not have the time for it (it was a while ago, also not gonna be able to do mic most likely tbh) it can be confusing, but here's a link to an online resource: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/getting-started Also, whilst I'm not partial to any system (only ever done DnD with my bros so not much experience) I retain the right to say 'this is more complicated then removing the plumbing to my house'(which is complicated as all hel).

I will be perfectly willing to run the game and acclimate people too it. Pathfinder is pretty much 3.5 DND, but MUCH better, less broken, and simpler.

Making a character was a bit of a darn challenge for me, and then like I said didn't finish had to take care of life stuff. But for right now let's see if there's more interest and then make the final decisions.

Two things:
1. I'd rather you focused on Cthulu Hunters but thats up to you.
2. I prefer 5th Edition over Pathfinder so I may be a bit biased but 5th Edition's Rules are better.

I actually prefer 4th Edition, mostly because I think that particular incarnation of the Druid (probably my favorite class next to the Fighter) has the best flavor out of any other DnD edition, and I really dislike the Vancian spellcasting system.
Also because you actually get to do neat things beyond just hitting things with your weapon as pure martial classes in 4th instead of having to dip into spellcasting.

Having run 3.5, pathfinder, and 4th, i have to say that my players do WAY better with vancian magic. Giving a homicidal druid infinite fire spells is a BAD idea. That, and i just like the wizardly progression better. a problem in 4th edition was that every class had effectively the same mechanics.

Seconded. Vaal is still a thing too.
I started this thread hoping to be a Player and not the DM, and yes, Cthulu Hunters is going to be a primary focus of mine. Doesn't mean I can't see if there's interest in a DnD styled game that I can play in. My primary focus is Cthulu Hunters, and if it ever gets additional players, Vaalstad. And besides unlike Cthulu Hunters or Vaalstad I imagine this would be a once weekly kind of deal, where as these are pretty much just 'whenever everyone's one'.

We have a drive for PDF's.
Here, have a link. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B04lTwSnC2-dLWRjTkhiZjhYME0&usp=drive_web

That PDF drive is great but I can't find Pathfinder in it. Also, let's go ahead and get a head count on who all is interested in taking part. So do me a favor and if you are interested go ahead and make another post saying so.

I'll be joining and I might talk one of my IRL friends to join. He loves D&D and we've played plenty of P&P games together so he might be interested.

Just so I fully understand and there is no miscommunication: This is happening on Roll20 or the forum? Neither me nor my friend have a mic so we would be a bit behind if we were on Roll20. I personally have no objections to Roll20 though.
Title: Re: Forum DnD Game
Post by: Perigrin on July 21, 2015, 10:53:04 pm
err. Yeah, Roll20. But i might do a concurrent game on the forums themselves, because, with a strict set of rules over the forums, we would NEVER have to stop playing DND. So, both more n likely.

So two separate games on different platforms? If that's the case my friend and I will stick to the forum game rather than the R20.

HERE'S A REALLY REALLY GOOD THING: http://www.pathguy.com/PathfinderCore.htm
Erm, but that doesnt have any of the FUN races, like Ratmen or Dhampires.
I don't plan on playing anything that outlandish. Anyone who wants to will have to take the extra step!

My friend and I won't be ready for the game on this forum for another few days or so. We're getting together to make the sheets. Thursday is the day we're meeting for sheets.

Already got a name for my char, going with Fighter since being a paladin requires morals that my character wouldn't have.

Alright, im thinking of getting this thread underway TONIGHT or tomorrow, so i need a list of who will be present for the first campaign. so, Fura, you might want to get your friend to make an account if he is playing. lets cap it at 5 people, with 3 minimum.

Found this. Shit is dangerous.
Using http://sourceforge.net/projects/pcgen/?source=typ_redirect to create a character sheet.
Dunno what I'd play. Kobold something. Because kobolds. Maybe gunslinger. Because muskets.

Forgot. Your party tools into the town of Groter late in the evening. This unlikely assortment of people were hired to transport a load of high value magical regents from this town to the capital city of the kingdom of Chernek, Drascur. Groter is a quiet town. Large fields of gray wheat surround the village, and the houses and shops are quaint affairs, in the common Chernek style. A door is thrown open on the street as you enter the town, and a man is thrown out. Sorry for the short first post, I had band camp and am phone posting this.

I walk up to the man and ask him what is wrong. Somethong must be quite bad to be cast out like that.

Carth, in her usual cute style, approaches the man and asks, "Aw... Onii-Chan why were you thrown out nyannn~."

Aldrin ignores the man, who was probably tossed out for being disorderly or just being an as$. He instead begins preparing himself for the journey ahead, and asks his newfound companions "Is everyone ready for this job?"

Rychek shoots a glance over at the sound from beneath his but made no move to help as he saw the towering half-orc Gortak and the robed woman Carth attend to the prostrate man, the kobold well aware of the reputation of his own kind outside the warrens and not wanting to cause a scene. Turning to the elf warrior he replied, "Ready enough." His tail waved back and forth, a crick forming halfway down it's length, signaling his uncertainty. "Our client?" he inquired.

Clara leans against a stationary cart, nodding at Aldrin's question. "Yeah, sure. Got nothing else to do, so why wouldn't we be."

Aldrin looks at their cargo and said "Some merchant who's name escapes me." He then looks at the two who are talking ot the man and watches curiously to see what would happen.

The man has clearly passed out by the time you reach him. The man smells of orc and booze, and you see that the building he was tossed out of is the local bar, the Green Hill. You remember that the Merchant said to meet his contact here. The Contact is a Goblin, an Immigrant from the kingdom of Arx nearby.

"Uguu~..." Carth says wearily as she waits for everyone else to go with her before she went into the tavern. She didn't want to get caught under foot!

Aldrin walked into the bar to seek out their contact "May as well get this started." He said as he walked past the two who had been inspecting the drunk.

The kobold motioned towards the tavern, sidling up just behind Aldrin, adjusting the musket slung across his gear-laden back. "Elf friend leads. Rychek will follow."
