But I'd probably base your character's stuff after Overwatch. Every character has their signature weapon, then 3 abilities (one of which is some sort of defensive/movement ability), then their ULTIMATE ABILITY.
So yeah, big peacekeeping organization ala Overwatch and you get to fight villains and all that in over the top cinematic battles. Because WOOOO!
Maybe make a system for Light, Medium, and Heavy weight/armor classes. Light characters focus on moving fast so they don't get hit but can't take them too well, Heavy characters just TANK ALL THE DAMAGE FOREVER.

Who said I'd GM it? Bah! Fuck it, let the community decide once you think the voting period is through on who to GM it. I'll help with lore if someone else is chosen, and possibly mechanics.
But I'd say get rid of players being able to be rebels to begin with, you can "side" with the government or the rebels (by supplying or giving info) but you can never actually fully be on either side unless you're a cop or you get "liberated" by the rebels.
Guess there was no point to the poll then. I guess I'll re-do Darkwinds soon though.

i live in the ass end of nowhere, so i generally play with whoever accepts its, and my current group is, to put it bluntly, dumber than a sack of dead rats. i could only muster two guys up (yaaaaaay), and one is a coldhearted homicidal motherfucker, and the other is really friggin silly. this might not SOUND bad for a usual hacky-slashy DND game, but we tried Call of Cthulhu once. i was running an adaptation of "Cult of the Reptile God" (great adventure that), whcih ran under CoC rules. so, first thing they do is go into the golden grain inn and loudly say "So, i hear you are in a Cult". and then they look at me, completely baffled, when all of the cult motherfuckers in the bar leap up and attack them. they survive (barely, one of them crit'd and destroyed the phone before a call for cops was made), and then follow the bartender, who they ran away from, home a month later, BEAT HIM TO DEATH, and bury him in a shallow grave after stealing all of his shit. they are then baffled at the fact that his family missed him and put in a missing persons report, which leads to them being arrested and given the death sentence for at least 6 murders according to witnesses. other highlights of this game include dropping a fuckload of acid, and one knocking the other out with a golf club, and then being surprised when this caused BRAIN DAMAGE! (he crit'd, its a wonder the damage didnt kill him). jesus christ.
this story of mine sums up my current set of players for tabletop games.

Jesus my 12 year old brother and sister, and my 14 year old sister are better Call of Cthulhu players then these dumbasses. At least my younger brother finally found out that 'killing' things isn't the main draw of the game (I read him the description of Cthulhu to give him an idea why guns are practically useless, as he was hellbent on getting a 50. Cal. After what I said about Cthulhu he quit asking.). I'm still organizing a game (going to run a small homebrew of the usual "you investigate a haunted house" so I can get a grip on how to play it, then run some adventures out of the manual, then finally start to work on a Mask of Nyarlathotep campaign as the book came in with my dice.)

Been doing some thinking about Sunken Harbors; not really deep into this idea of a GM. Which comes off as me not wanting responsibility, but I like the idea of story-telling by those playing than by me dictating what happens based on dumb fate/luck.
So basically what I'm saying is this: Sunken Harbors is going on, but it's being revamped to a creative story telling direction. The OOC will be flipped into a place where we can discuss what happens next, what our characters will do, and how does this tale form to what we create. I'm more interested in that, and that's what I want to see in an RP.

I've been sitting on an idea, that I'll call Technomancer: The Lost for the time being.Ohh, I'm good with this. Mabye a Hemo one which deals with blood? (well, I need to play bloodborne again. Took a break because F U C K Rom.) I am so ready.
Players are woken up out of a deep cryo sleep with little memory of their past, or how they got to where they are. Only one thing is certain: They are different.
The players are given a special machine, implanted in their body, known as the Harmonic Electromagnetic Manipulator, or the H.E.M. This device has been tuned to a certain harmonic wavelength that allows the user to manipulate a certain element. These wavelengths are known as Harmonics.
Harmonics can be things like Phosphor, the ability to create and guide fire. Or Suture, the ability to mend flesh almost instantly. These powers do work in reverse, as well. Phosphor technomancers can snuff out fires and even lower the temperature of the air, and Suture technomancers can re-open wounds and even turn flesh necrotic at their touch.
I don't actually have a setting, just a bunch more different Harmonics and some pseudo-science explaining how the H.E.M. implants actually work that I'll flesh out at a later date.

I've got some base ideas I'm gonna work on. I really just want to see what an RP where the players aren't super heroes or anything, their just as vulnerable as everyone else, I'd really like to see what an RP with that base idea would end up as in the end.

I'm feeling something like that. A few suggestions: just don't make it too mechanics heavy. This isn't coming from bias because I did the mechanics for Teleglitch, but I think that's a fun system that has a good dice-rolly mix but enough RP ingenuity that make a good balance. That's just a thought. Anyways, I haven't played Etrian Odyssey. What are some of the classes that come along with that? Is it the usual Archer/Wizard/Warrior/Rogue or are there some in betweens like illusionists, assassins, barbarians, etc?
Ooooh, stuck between a Troubadour, Hexer, or a Gunner. All three of those look very fun.Yeah, lots of Fun classes. I like the Protector because they can defend whole rows or draw enemies to them instead. If you ever want to try the game, it's a super fun dungeon-crawler (ala Wizardry or Eye of the Beholder or Legend of Grimrock) for DS, (or 3ds for the 4th one).

I'm getting out of sküle the week of June 1st, and up to then I've got four projects to do alongside a steady stream of homework. No rest for the wicked, unfortunately.
I'm iffy on the idea of an RP like that because I feel like that kills off potential of a story really fast, unless you're not going for story. It's like in CoC or D&D, chances are the Keeper/GM won't kill you off after one close encounter with death, (in fact the rule books says to give them at least two chances to escape death.) because it takes the hours of character creation and throws it away. Not to say it's going to be that much of a waste in an RP like that because it's just an RP, but I personally play for story and I want to see a characters develop....I think we've encountered two very different types of GMs, the ones I run into will kill your character if you screw up bad enough, or if your just plain unlucky in a game. I also feel like there should be a chance for characters to die, but I guess that's personal opinion and taste.

Not an RP announcement, but it is Highway related and very important.
I'm going to make a lore thread that basically spoils everything that I have planned, most of the secrets about the backstory, and all sorts of fun stuff containing information about the mutants, races, and how ****ed I made America this time.
If The Highway was following a "Mad Max" timeline, The (current) Highway would basically be Mad Max 1. While nukes have gone off (several times), civilization is still somewhat there, but is basically a chaotic mess of fractured nations, states, and governments trying to get a foothold on what could be described as a "muddy-slope... in the rain".
I loved Fury Road. The cars they built for that movie were so great, and all the little touches they had showing the cultures of each group were amazingly done.

I don't know why I liked it so much, maybe because it was probably one of the only RP(G)s that had a "realistic setting". It was set in a airport terminal during winter, and something strange was going on. Everyone reacted in their own way and I thought it was pretty neat.

So I've been considering starting an RP around a group of students who are actually escaped test subjects for some experimental cybernetics who have to blend into high school and yet protect their town from The Institute that wishes their destruction.

Alright its been busy, but I finally have some ****ing downtime. Going to take a break from learning Unity and going to get my **** updated:
1. The Highway's combat report [SPOILERS] you guys win, and Jove gets offered the chance to harvest organs from raiders for a quick buck.MORE LIKE DOING THIS IN THE MORNING AHHEHAEHIWBNR A{ FR
2. The Database, I'm adding in the story of Los Angeles, a modern-day Atlantis that holds a treasure trove of Old World culture and technology... that's also full ofandroidsfake plastic pumped people that are out for your blood. My sister helped me come up with a Silent-Hill esque mutant monster called "Zatoichi" (if you know your Japanese movies, you'll have a good idea what its like). Also adding some stuff about the war and why the US was terraformed so heavily (other then the reason to have jungles in The Four Corner states), along with some Highway vidya game stuff. Also I sent Furaotic some stuff about the lore to see if he'd want to include some of his Icarus stuff in there.
3. Finally updating the Terminal, and feel free to talk amongst yourselves. Like RP and stuff. The Terminal is going to be a kinda slow burn thing, so feel free to flesh out your characters with idle chatter while you wait for my dumbass to update.
This is a very good discussion and I have a lot I want to say about everything you said, AJ and Vulnus.
First of all, if we are going to be supporting each other, we have about fifty people. I say this gets thrown up in the announcements section and we start a discussion with everyone because I don't think any of us here are necessarily a family. We are close knit and we are party that left C:DDA together, mostly, and I feel like this is a discussion for all boards and not just this one so we can grow closer. Generally, we need to talk about an entire revamp in my honest opinion, but for now I'm going to keep it strictly Creative Endeavors and Rec Room related. I'm listing the problems and then we can talk about solutions.
As for the Rec Room,
About an average 20 people log on a day. I'm going to make that rough estimate and anyone of you can clock me on it if you care so much. We have about... eight people dedicated to RP which is funny considering a large movement of us came from the Rec Room with other people tagging along. (Not shaming that or anything, just saying that's a huge ratio.) And maybe only three of those eight even come on in a day, and if they do come on, they might not even post.
That's eight people who may or may not give a **** about the RPs that happen here, and three people who have the chance to. I do not think it's a matter about enough people giving a ****, it's just not enough people. I'm going to get real and say we do not have enough people to create a very strong RP community. Especially since most of us already know each other and are, frankly, kind of sick of each other in that aspect. I'm sure some of you are sick of me and I don't awfully care that much about what anyone thinks of me, it's the fact that our small group of eight people dedicated are getting tired of RPing with the same people because we all flatline in a certain way. We cannot keep up with just that. We're all flaky, we're all busy, and it's just not enough people. That's just it. It's not enough people and that why **** won't be taking off like it has in the past. Plain and simple unless anyone has a rebuttal for that, then go on ahead.
Now, for us GM's, me being one, I find that it doesn't really matter how well put together the RP is. You can make it open as ****, closed as ****, or anything and sure you can get the ball rolling with characters and then they can create five pages of straight dialogue, but at the end of the day there's got to be a GM who's going to care just as much as a player. It's an even effort and both have to pull weight. If the GM doesn't get posts from players who care, a GM can't make caring posts. GMs and Players thrive and bounce off one another and we don't have enough of any of those. Like what, four or five of the eight dedicated are GMs themselves. The numbers just don't work and that's the issue. I'd dare say it's not always about dedication from the GM either. You can have a dedicated GM but people who don't want to post/too busy/aren't interested anymore. I've been flaky, I've been busy, and I've dropped things. But if I'm going to use an example, I came back to Sunken Harbors and tried to continue that. It got close. But people left. People got busy. That's the nature of that situation. We are all fickle people.
There's a lot more variables and **** to talk about when it comes to Rec Room, but at the end of the day here's the major issue and if we could solve it, everything would works itself out I guarantee.
We need more people. We don't need the few that we have to care more. Just more people.
As for the Creative Section,
To sum this up very quickly before I briefly elaborate:

Don't promise anything. I haven't promised to read anyone's anything and I haven't gone out of my way to read anyone's anything. I fully expect that what I put out I will get back. I haven't gotten feedback on anything that I've posted besides AJ's feedback. I expect that. I've reached out, I've offered, and I haven't gotten anything in return. It's a mutual care thing and I agree, in order for people to care about you, you have to care about them. I don't believe in excuses like "I'm too busy..." or "It's just really crazy right now..." Because I guarantee those are the same people watching AJ's stream or just sitting around hitting refresh until an update on an RP comes out or something new happens. Everything that I have glanced at is relatively short and anyone can read it in a short time with the excuse of PULP which is 70 pages long. I suppose it's a matter of just doing it, and I can't really say much because I could be doing that too. These examples are coming from what I personally do, and I'm sure i'm not the only one so I hope no one feels personally attacked by what I'm saying here.
That's all I have to say for now.

If we can't be friendly to new people, then there can't be a living forum. We're basically a skeleton crew at this point. As for being friendly to new people I will refer to my prior quote: "actions speak louder than words." However, let's take this a step further. We could be nice to everyone who joined, but we don't have a large enough traffic flow due to lack of advertising, and I'm too embarrassed to spread the site through word of mouth because of the semi-anonymous groups, pron threads, and things like that. Hey, I'm not always the super serious soft spoken gentle giant...or whatever the heck you'd call me. Actually had to deal with severe anger issues growing up, which was fun. Got over it, and being serious and somewhat calm came with it. Still some little things light the short fuse and...well the figurative term 'boom' would be appropriate.

So, checking to see who all is interested in doing the whole RP thing again, and to see who all thinks they'll have the time to participate. Got some ideas but I'd like to see if there's interest before I write up a bunch of stuff I may never use.I have the time but I wanna know what's in the oven.
Current ideas that'd need a bit more fleshing out are 1) the players are the suppliers of alcohol or other such substance but not set in the actual prohibition era(so maybe sifi maybe other), and 2) actually getting the rules written up for the Imperial Legion RP I'd been thinking about doing, and 3) A more structured RP where the players are bounty hunters(and maybe others) who are after a specific target who has information desired by the person that hired the bounty hunters, and maybe to the bounty hunters themselves.So, checking to see who all is interested in doing the whole RP thing again, and to see who all thinks they'll have the time to participate. I like some bounty hunters, could use that idea for a character.
Meh, The bounty hunter one id the only one that really gets my interest. But you are on the right path. I do love a good Sci-Fi/Dystopian lands story.

If that doesn't pan out then I'll work on this though I'm going to wait a few more days before I just decide people lost interest in it.
