Title: The Mountains Of Neaxco [A Colony Simulation Game][IC/OOC]
Post by: Siege-Loli on August 30, 2015, 03:49:19 am
In 251 CE, the western borders of The Holy Empire lie next to the unclaimed mountains of Neaxco. The mountains are dangerous for various tribes of wild men reside here and the Invisible Death still hangs in the ancient ruins that dot the landscape. Most are unpicked as scavengers avoid this place like the plague due to how far away it is from a town and the dangers. But on this day the Praeator of Reclaimation has sent a colonization team to create an outpost in this dangerous terrain. One hundred settlers will arrive in the Springing Season to set up an outpost in the name of the Glorious Emperor.
The settlement will be set up next to a river with a mountain face to the west of the site and a small forest across the river. Wild life will be sparse and native tribes will likely spot the settlement soon after it is set up. There are ruins nearby but what they are is unknown for the scouts did not enter them for fear of the Invisible Death.
May the Immortal One watch over us.

Name: Knick Knack Age: 30 Skills: [Barter] [Fabrication] [Repair] Equipment: A crude rawhide duster, kept 'buttoned' by a dozen leather belts wrapped around his torso. Leather hand wraps, heavy laced cloth boots, a bandana tied around his mouth, and smoggy welding goggles. Wields suppressed homemade machine pistol, and a small knife he forged himself. Various little rudimentary tools, some chems, some other loose ends. Loyalty to the Imperium and to the God-Emperor: Not the loyal-est, he's a bit of a wanderer, but this outpost thing seems promising, so he'll probably stick around. Do you wish to become the Outpost Commandant?: "Naw, man. Tradin' with the locals, fixin' shit for food, and I'm set."

And alright, alright. Guessing it's predominantly the world from Dust and such.

Indeed but 1000 years into the future! A certain someone has been in power for 300 years and has control of everything east of the Nexaco (Rocky) Mountains though the settlement region (Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Northern Texas) is still under heavy development.

You know what? I think I will try my hand at doing this. I have not tried an RP in a long time. This sounds like fun.
Name: Daniel Drexler Age: 21 Skills: [Cooking] [Crafting] [Construction] Equipment: A red Hawaiian-styled button up shirt with a white floral pattern and very light yellow jeans. Daniel's weapon of choice is his trusty cast iron frying pan, great for cooking and has a good weight for an effective impact. Loyalty to the Imperium and to the God-Emperor: "I wouldn't say I am absolutely loyal, but I am not exactly one who would go assassinate political figures for anarchy or whatever." Do you wish to become the Outpost Commandant?: "I am not one to lead."
How is that? Last RP I can remember ever participating was that gas stop one waayy back in the DDA forums.

Also if your character not really want to lead, why would Leading be a skill. If a character took up talents in leading of course that is what they would want to go for.
Sorry for judging your character but that was just bugging me, I probably should be sleeping.

It had taken several months to gather the required materials, supplies, and willing participants before the journey had even been underway. However once this was accomplished the journey was rather straight forward. Besides the occasional wild animal attack everything had gone quite well as the colonists reached the settlement point.
The scouts were surprisingly accurate in their description of the area around the starting settlement area with the mountain side covering the west side and the river to the east. To the north is the plains that the colonists crossed through to enter the flat lands next to the the river. To the south lies ancient ruins that makes everyone in the colony on edge.
The supplies of the colony are as follows:
3 month's supply of food 3 month's supply of fresh water 10 Imperial Rifles, assigned to the Imperial Guardsmen 20 ammo boxs, two for each Imperial Guardsmen 5 iron axes 5 iron pick-axes 20 wooden building supplies A map and compass 10 large sheets of canvas A pick-up truck 3 gallons of gas a working generator
The colonist so far: 10 Imperial Guardsmen 40 General Imperial Colonists 1 Priest of the Emperor and the Outpost Commandant, David Soar
(One turn is a month unless I state otherwise due to certain events. Turns are pumped out as quickly as new orders are made)

I just wanted to get permission before I go recruiting."

After Daniel finishes looking around he gathers some wooden building supplies and a few colonist to begin construction on a shelter.

Mike brushes the dust down off his uniform with his already grubby hands and eagerly looks around for something to do, surely the more work he does here the more pleased The Emperor will be. He sees one of the colonists trying to gather up some other colonists for some work, it's not exactly his job but things are quiet at the minute and surely The Emperor would be pleased at his efforts to help out where he does not have to, he slings his rifle over his shoulder and heads straight over to help out, signalling for the other Guardsmen to come over and help too.
(He's coming over to help Daniel and the others build the shelter)

David Soar, the outpost commandant would hear a voice asking for permission to lead out a group of hunters. He'd quickly nod a couple of times, assessing the area. "That seems like an intelligent and wise decision, I'd like you to organize such a party, keep it small, and don't use up too many of our weaponry supplies." They would be granted a pair of rifles and four ammunition boxes. They would also be sent with the map and compass to allow for better scouting of the nearby area.
He next orders for nearby trees to be cut around a designated area, both for lumber and also to allow for easier sighting of potential hostiles or visitors to the area. He also sends a pair of colonists with pickaxes and one guardsman to explore the ruins as quickly and rapidly as possible. Should they find anything of value, such as ore deposits, they are to grab some with the pickaxes and return them for analysis.
The pick-up truck is to be cannibalized for more electronic/mechanical parts as it is not highly useful at the moment.
Cabins are to be constructed as rapidly as possible for the housing of the citizenry. Until they are completed, temporary tipi like structures may be used via the canvas. Guardsmen are to stand watch outside in rotations of two.
One structure will be devoted to the stockpiling and holding of goods and materiel until it is further needed. This specific tipi will have a devoted Guardsman so as to prevent thievery either by vagrants or by those disloyal to the God-Emperor.
With that done, David Soar would await the results of his orders.

The Hunter who identifies himself as Lucas manages to gathers one other colonist for the hunting trip before heading north to hunt along the plains. Five colonists then use the axes available to begin chopping trees in the forest but first have to cross the river. It's not hard but they'd be able to get more wood back to camp if they didn't have to carry it by hand or swim back and forth.
Daniel begins leading 10 other colonists in the construction of a public barracks which will provide the colonists housing but isn't very comfortable and there is very little privacy. It will take a month before it is constructed. Another ten colonists will construct the canvas structures and the canvas storehouse which will be done rather quickly since its a simple task;a guardsman is placed near the store-tent to prevent theft.
Theo and Zaweri, the only technomancers (this is what people are called when they have rare skills with mechanics), checks up on the pick-up before being ordered to take it apart for scrap. If this actually happens or not depends on them since they are the only ones with the skill to do so.
The scavenging party composed of 5 colonists and two guardsman (One being Mike Hawk) set out for the ruins nearby. They should be back in a weeks time if everything goes smoothly.

As the Commandant is the closest thing to the God-Emperor himself out here Mike does not even dare question his orders to explore the ruins, though as they set out to leave the other Guardsman going with them approaches him, a tall thin man with a pale face, Mike remembers he excelled during training however. "It seems a little risky to be going looking through the ruins doesn't it? What if we catch the Invisible Death? Are you sure this is really a good idea? We should say something about this shouldn't we?". The man stands there for a few moments, waiting for a reply.
"The Commandant's word is to be taken as those of the God-Emperor himself, he is the unquestionable authority out here, he is for all purposes blessed as an extension of the God-Emperor himself and you will not question his orders again. Ready yourself to leave, we'll return here in a week at most if all goes well, and fear not, we will return if the God-Emperor wills it."
He marches into the Commandants office, seeing Zaweri already there he patiently waits for the man to acknowledge him, upon hearing Zaweri's complaint he suddenly interjects "I'd like to request permission to use the pickup truck to head to the ruins, with it we should be able to go there, complete our work and return within 3 days as well as use it to transport any valuables we find, sir." With this he prepares his equipment and organises the group to leave, taking the necessary supplies with them.
(If the commandant says yes he'll take the Pickup truck, otherwise it is left.)

The Commandant takes notice of Zaweri, listening to his complaints for a few moments and taking them into consideration. When Mike steps in and requests the pick-up truck for use during the ruin exploration, his mind is changed and he heartily agrees for it to be used instead of being taken apart as previously planned.
All previous work is continued, a bridge is also ordered to be constructed along the river so as to better facilitate the transportation of logs from the nearby forest to the constructions of the new settlement.

Mike eyes Zaweri, as if trying to asses his usefulness. "You're a Technomancer aren't you? I'm sure you'll be more than helpful should we find anything in the ruins, sure, but hang back if anything happens will you? Can't have The Commandant coming down on me because I got a Technomancer killed"
They set off towards the ruins in the Pickup truck.

Lucas thinks back to his early years...
He readies his makeshift crossbow, he mumbles "This crouch-walking's hell on my back..." he walks toward a Mutated bear; A Yao-Gui. He aims down the sights of his crossbow, they're upwind to the Bear so it doesn't smell them. He loads a bolt into the crossbow and pulls back the string, he aims a little higher then the neck, then fires. The bolt fires true, hitting the beast in the side of the neck, taking it down without a hitch. It crumples to the dirt, Lucas takes a quick look 'round before heading to the carcass. Luke pulls out the bolt from the beast's neck and puts it back where it's needed, he begins to skin it with one of the cleaner bolts.
Lucas and the other hunter hunt for around two weeks before heading back to the outpost.

Knick Knack barely catches up to the truck as it leaves camp, his boots catching onto the fender and his arms hooking onto the bed. "Oi! Mind if I tag along, gents?" All work continues as planned as the wood-cutters continue to cut wood and any left over colonists now turn their attention to the construction of the bridge. Since there aren't any architects in the colony, it'll take a month to be done and an undetermined amount of wood.
The group heading to the ruins pile into the saved pick-up and head over to the ruins (which takes a week due to the distance and the roughness of the terrain. Perhaps a road would make it quicker?). The approach the closest one, a fullcrete structure thats missing its roof and has several holes in its wall. On one of the doors there is a symbol of what looks like a shield with something written under it but no one knows how to read. [Live event go!]
(For future reference, don't assume you succeed in doing something in the future Wilson.)
Lucas and the hunter return with two slain deer, ready to be prepared.
3 month's supply of food 3 month's supply of fresh water 10 Imperial Rifles, assigned to the Imperial Guardsmen 16 ammo boxs, two for each Imperial Guardsmen 5 iron axes [In use] 5 iron pick-axes [In use] 0 wooden building supplies [+5 weekly] A map and compass [In use] 10 large sheets of canvas [All used] A pick-up truck [awaiting possible deconstruction] 3 gallons of gas a working generator
The colonist so far: 10 Imperial Guardsmen [4 Working, two without rifles] 40 General Imperial Colonists [1 hunting, 20 building barracks,5 scavenging, 5 chopping wood, 20 building bridge] 1 Priest of the Emperor [Raising Morale] and the Outpost Commandant, David Soar

David Soar would like to continue the construction of the Bridge. Barring that, he'd also like anyone without a job to begin work of tilling up a nearby field of some sort.
He'd like to ask that one of the Guardsmen takes a survey of the varying skillsets about the colony as well. The Priest would be asked to take some personality tests on the colonists to determine which ones are loyal to the God-Emperor, and which ones are simply feigning it.

It was then the first actual building of the colony was constructed: The barracks which would now house the entire population of the colonist (at least, for a little while).
Those who were building the barracks then begin to till a nearby field but without proper tools, it would take two weeks in order to dig a large enough field to grow enough food to make a difference. Construction of the bridge continues as the colonists can now bring all the wood over to finishing the bridge, cutting down on time so that it'll be done by next week.
The scavenging team comes back bloody, wounded, but alive as several large arrows stick out of members of the group.
Knick knack tells what happened to the Commandant:
The Imperial Priest nods at the Commandant and begins a secret operation to test the loyalty of the colonists.

Zaweri sighs as he leaves the hospital tent, his arm all bandaged up. He goes to the nearby extinguished fire, grabs a piece of charcoal, and walks to his "Worktable" which is more like a flat rock. He starts researching on the revolver they found, carefully taking it apart. He draws every part onto the stone worktable using the piece of charcoal he has. He succeeds in making crude blueprints! But the revolver is not as solid as it used to be.
Zaweri then walks over to the Commandant. "Eh, excuse me, sir, could I request something? I would like an actual gunsmithing tent for myself, I have blueprints on my worktable, I don't want them to wash off in the rain. I put some canvas over it so that it is protected for now. Also, I would require something nicer than a piece of charcoal to draw on stone with, and maybe some kind of paper."

The Commandant, still waiting for other things to be completed before he continues making orders and whatnot, is approached by Zaweri.
He listens intently to him for a few moments and considers the potential applications of a gunsmithing tent for the cheap cost of a single tent and some writing utensils.
"Very well, have the Guardsmen assign you a special tent. Take the other technomancer with you though, I don't want you working on it alone." He sighs, giving a nod of permission to the man before turning back to see how things were doing.

A shield, which is normally affixed to his back. A very old blue helmet, probably meant for baseball, and a mask of hard plastic. Weaponry: A long spear of scrap metal, festooned with barbed points and hooks along the edge. Sure to stick inside a target and cause massive bleeding. A length of corded sinew is affixed to the back, allowing Teck to hurl the weapon and drag enemies with it. On his back, a quiver of tough leather contains multiple smaller javelins, with points of bone and lacquered wood. The quiver contains twelve. Loyalty to the Imperium and to the God-Emperor: "This....Empire......conquered my tribe. Thus, I am bound to serve, as is tradition. I am pledged until my life essence leaves my earthly form."
Teck's general look!
The Great Spear (Ignore the man holding it)

Nope it's just a bad case of writer's block. This will be updated soon but forcing myself to type can lead to bad (and hilarious) results.

(Short update due to it being mostly combat)
It was early in the morning when the tribals attacked the camp as the colonists we're working on various tasks. The came from the forests and slew one colonists before everyone was able to rally inside the secure barracks. Gunfire erupted from the Guardsmen as the launched volley after volley onto the attacking tribals. Arrows sang through the sky as five Guardsmen we're brought down as their ceramic armor was pierced. However eventually they won the day by gunning down 16 of the 30 tribals. The rest fled into the woods.

(So we have Mike, GuardWaifu and three other Guardsmen left? How much ammo we got left after that?
Also Mike should be reasonably healed by now so I'll post something for him to do later since I'm a little busy at the moment)
