The Club for Extraordinary Explorers: A 'Discord' RPG



Ironically the title of our club also ties into the means in which we will be going on these adventures.

Hello there my fellow explorers, it is I, "Sherman G. Wells" the proud fonder and host of The Club for Extraordinary Explorers. For years we've prided ourselves on the amazing ability to host expeditions to exotic or extra-dimensional locales, all in the name of entertainment, greed, sport, or to have a 'taste' of the luxurious lifestyle of a gentleman... or gentlewoman. Being established in 1896, we've been around for quite a while and due to sponsors and museums throwing millions of dollars at us we've been able to stay open all these years, even allowing us to expand our journeys to more exotic and far off places.

And if you're reading this then that means you picked up a pamphlet from one of our kiosks at the "Mustache Wax and Firearms Expo". Say the words, "Jellybean Cheesecake Boom" and we'll throw in some extra bullets for the Gentleman's Duel!

Rules of the Explorer's Club
1. This is all for fun, don't attack other when not in the club
2. If you wish to "mingle" with the other explorers if they've caught your eye, please find a private room so no one has to see your "conversation"
3. Do not anger the host of the club, he's a vengeful sort
4. If you cannot make a set date, make a post here so the DM can rearrange the expedition or session.

Before We Get Into Things...

I'll let you know what this is. The Club for Extraordinary Explorers (A Discord RPG, or TCEE:DRPG for short) is a RPG I've been working on for quite a bit now, it was originally planned to be on the IRC, then Roll20, but when people moved to Discord I decided just to use that for simplicity sake.

TCEE:DRPG is a PVP/Exploration game set in the furturistic year of 1960, where the world has moved onto to be a weird mix of steampunk, HG Wells styled inventions, and the modern day decor' of the 1960s (think funky patterns, and luxurious furniture mixed together). Where you begin your adventure in the Gentleman's Duel, a PVP arena where the explorers murder each other until one remains, the remaining one gets to be the leader of the exploration party, while the 'losers' get to play the support roles like chef, radioman, pilot, etc... despite what their skillset is. But don't worry you won't actually die in a Gentleman's Duel, you just wake up in the infirmary, I'll explain why in the later paragraphs.

Then you have the expedition part after the duel (where the leader is decided by bloodshed), where you then head out on an expedition for the TCEE. It'll be more focused on exploration, puzzles, and in-fighting between the crew (its a Discord RPG after all) with a few enemy encounters here and there. Alright now lets get back to explainin'.


The Gentleman's Duel!

Before any expedition gets underway there needs to be a leader, in the past this was normally decided through drawing straws or pulling a name out of a hat. This all changed when someone pulled a gun on the winner and shot him point blank, after the firefight only one remained, the strongest and wittiest of the expedition. Once his mates came back too they realized that only the best of the best should be the leader. From then on out it was decided before every expedition a leader would be decided through the means of a Gentleman's Duel, where no rules apply, and only your brute strength or wits would determine if you became the leader.

But don't worry if you take one to the head or get an arm cut off, The Club has only the most advanced in medical technology! Such as the Nikolai Tesla Soul Anchor mk.3400 which literally drags your spiritual form back into your lifeless husk after the doctors are done stitching you back together! When you're in the club you're practically immortal! We also have a limb growing machine when can grow back limbs in a flash, we then sew them onto your stubs and bam! Its like you never lost your arm!

The Expedition

After the duel you will be given a date when the expedition will set sail (AKA: when I'll be DM'ing a session), if you aren't there then your position will be up for grabs, even when you come back. So if you won the duel, but didn't show up for when we shove off, then your position was given to the man who won second place. So if you can't make the date because you caught a bad case of the Jungle Pox, then please write to The Club so we can reschedule.



The Mechanics

Movement/Action Points:

The game will run on Action Points (think Fallout 1&2), using AP you can perform actions like reloading your gun, rubbing on wax on your stache, grabbing something, moving, sprinting, jumping, making sweet love, or eating a hearty steak. Each action takes a certain amount of points depending on what it is, reloading a revolver might take 2 to 6 AP depending on how many shots you've fired. Your Action Points are determined by how much Agility you have.

Movement will be handled by action points during combat, Each action point moves you up to a maximum of 5ft, if you sprint instead you can move farther at the cost of 2 action points.

Example: You see a jar of mustache wax, you want that jar. Its at least 20ft away, you have 18 action points, moving takes 1 action point, sprinting takes 2, you decide to sprint the 20ft and lose 4AP. You spend 1AP to grab the wax, and then you spend 6AP to reload your revolver. You now have 7AP left.

Combat/Damage/Crits:

Instead of HP, its renamed to Blood Level, because a lot of combat in this game involved bleeding, poisoning, electrocution, or burning. Which results in a lot of damage overtime kinda stuff. Everyone's blood level starts at 1000 by default, but if they raise their Vitality stat it'll increase by 500 for each point put into vitality. Now don't let the large number fool you, we're going to be rolling d100s in this because I think bigger numbers look better on a sheet about gentlemen fighting.

There is limb targeting in the game that is decided by a D6, depending on what you roll is what you'll hit:
6-Head
5-Right Arm
4-Torso
3-Left Arm
2-Right Leg
1-Left Leg


If you roll something around 0-30 it counts at a miss, each weapon will have a crit range and a miss range on its description.

Crits depend on what weapon is used and what its damage range is (most if not all will be a default d100 with either a D20 or D6 thrown in for good measure), but a lot of the time if its over 100 or in the 90-100 range it'll be a critical hit. If you get a critical hit you will cripple that limb, if you manage to crit it again a certain amount of times, the limb will either explode, fly off, or some other manner of gore will occur.

Default Values to Crit Limbs:
Head takes 2 crits to destroy/Effects: instant death
Torso takes 4 crits to destroy/Effects: severe bleeding damage (-500 blood loss per turn)
Arms take 3 crits to destroy/Effects: severe damage/accuracy reduction (-100 blood loss per turn)
Legs take 3 crits to destroy/Effects: moving takes more points, can't jump (-200 blood loss per turn)


You can cauterize wounds and get your blood level up through eating, rest, R&R, and medicinal means. Such means of recovery won't be allowed in Gentlemen Duels however.

Leveling Up/Stats:

After each battle, puzzle, expedition, etc... I'll roll each character their XP depending on what they did, how well they contributed, or if they were stylish enough (and also some other modifiers I won't spoil here). Starting out you need 100 XP to level up, each time you level up you get 3 points to spend on either raising your stats, or getting a perk! There is no level cap, so you can literally become a god at some point!

Now about those Stats:

Agility: Determines your action points, if you have 5 Agility then it means you have 5 action points.
Vitality: Determines your Blood Level (HP/BL), the baseline starts at 5 if it drops below 5 then it means you're sick or on the brink of death, it raises by 500 with each point added.
Endurance: Determines how much damage gets shaved off when attacked, if your Endurance is 5 then it means your damage reduction is 10 points. (Each point added give 2 more to damage reduction)
Charisma: Determines how well NPCs will take to your charms. (Literally does nothing right now other then make you appear handsome)
Luck: Determines how much extra damage you'll do, if your Luck is 5 then you'll get an added +10 to any roll. You might also make more money in gambling. (Each point added gives 2 more to any roll)

Budget:

Finally when you start the expedition you'll be given a set budget, if you go over budget, or cause The Club to lose profit. Your membership status will be revoked. So take care on what you damage, what you'll be buying, and where you'll be staying. (THE DM WILL DO ALL THE MATH ON HIS CALCULATOR NO NEED TO WORRY!).


Now that all the groundwork has been laid out, its time for you fine chaps to sign up for our first escapade! Our first expedition will be to the Amazonian Marshes on Mars, where we'll be recovering some old idol buried underneath the red martian sands!

We need a minimum of at least 4 people before we begin. Once we get the third player I'll reveal more about how the game works in the expedition sections, as well as actions one can perform during combat. (AKA: The more interest that is shown, the more I'll type into my computer as all my notes are in my mind and in a college ruled notebook.)

Backstory: Nigel worked as a young boy supporting his mother. When the Great war started Nigel falsified a document proclaiming his age to be eighteen when he was but fifteen years of age. He served through both world wars receiving various commendations from the crown before leaving the military with honors. He upheld the discipline and manners that the army had provided him, as well as a legendary proficiency in the production of tea of various kinds. He has shared tea with several well known figures, but kept himself rather unkown for a time. He began exploring on his own, picking up an interest in wild life and plants along the way that provided him with much needed knowledge at critical times in his adventures. He also gained a reputation as a rifleman and knife fighter during his time in the war and his time exploring on his own. It was said he took down a lumbering beast simply to provide the ivory for his pipe, many years after which he donated the entirety of the fortune he had acquired from selling artifacts from his adventures to protect the magnificent beasts that he had once hunted to acquire his pipe. He has since found his way here, having lost his rifle in the jungle, but as a soldier he will learn to adapt. Also, he had a pastrami sandwich on italian bread, with swiss cheese, some chips(fries for you americans), and a piping hot cup of tea.[Exaggerate, make something up, or just say what you had for lunch, no one reads or does this anyway.]

I figured I could only take one weapon to the duel, thanks for confirmation on that. I kind of thought my sheet was ridiculous to be honest, but I chose a theme and I ran with it.
Also, I can just see someone spilling his tea at one point, and suddenly the fury off all England being unleashed upon them.

Choosing a theme and running with it will probably help your character in the long run, because this whole thing will be like- shit I don't even know how to describe it. Absurd?

I mean the game is set in a world where Nikolai Telsa actually had successful inventions and got famous because of it, with many scientists following under him with 'TeslaScience' being the biggest field. Where everything is powered by small, self-energizing power stations, and where the splitting of the atom only added to Nikolai's work. Where the most popular weapons aren't automatic or semi-automatic, they're old lever-action, pump-action, or musket based weapons; either that or !!SCIENCE!! based.

Its a world where everything is progressing like normal (yes the hippie movement is going on, you'll see hippies dressed in tie dye flapper dresses and work tunics), but the old ways are so set in stone no one is willing to move onto better things. I mean you have IV drips that grant you biological immortality, but computers are still operated by punch cards.

But you'll see more of the world inside the game.

Yep, along with tonics and creams that give you permanent or temporary superpowers. Trust me the rifles, shotguns, and super weapons will be fucking brutal compared to your current weapons.

Yeah, I'm going to redo that whole duel since I basically nerfed the amount that Vitality gives you. I mean 500 BL per-point in Vitality. Vulnus was basically tissue paper compared to Wilson.

ATTENTION ADVENTURERS THE NEW DUEL TIME IS ON SATURDAY, WHEN ON SATURDAY!? WATCH THE THREAD TO FIND OUT!

Because I don't really know if I'll have time this Saturday

-Vitality getting a nerf and your new health stats will be posted on Thursday.

-The Duel will be a lot shorters with some rules that will be explained upon your arrival.

-Instead of your guns and swords you've chosen, we've produced our own Duelist Pistoles and Machetes. They're brutal, really powerful, but they're quite difficult to handle, the Pistole takes quite a while to recharge (sadly Whale Oil based pistols are only so good, they need to be recharged before you load in the next round), and the machete is quite dull to be honest.


The Club would like to remind you we'll have an OPEN HOUSE on Friday for those adventurers that wish to ask questions or chat with their potential new party members. Our location will be at the Colombian Cafe: Cigar and Fine Liquor Lounge located on Main Street, we hope to see you there.
