Title: {OOC/Interest Check} <Begin Again - The Story of the Forgotten>

<<BEGIN AGAIN>>
<<The Story of the Forgotten>>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." - James 1-2:4
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Blankness. Confusion. The sound of the trees caressing the branches of eachother in the wind, and the smell of the pure green of grass, combined with infusions of the salt of the sea. A patch of dried grass bristles against your back, and it wants you to get up. Only then do you see your skin, your hands, your legs, and begin to remind yourself that you are part of an advanced ecosystem. Homo sapien. Human. That is what you are, and that is all you can remember.

Your wooded surroundings barely matter to you. You can see other homo sapiens awakening, and beginning to realise their own existence too. Grass. Dirt. Bark. Leaves. Words begin to flood into your head, familiar words spoken in the tongue of English. How can you come to terms with the objects around you, yet at the same time not know who you are, or where you are? The white cotton shirt; the white cotton trousers, both are worn as if to mock and add to your already huge pile of confusion. A leather bag by your feet, stained with the earth - the earth that seemed somewhat... untrue to the grains of crushed minerals you were used to. What was it about this world that made it look the same, yet it didn't feel the same? And... how could you remember fragments of your old world?

You question your own mind what to do next. But you are your own mind. You know it is your choice what to do: this isn't some dream. Like a dream, but like a nightmare at the same time.

Perhaps the others around you might know more.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
What This Is

Begin Again is going to be as the title suggests. You're going to go on a journey with a character who knows nothing about themselves, and is clueless to most skills other than how to speak English, and how to identify objects. This game will be all about progression, and choosing your own path. Many choices will be laid in front of your character for you to decide how they react, and the development of your character will be from nothing to a complex and developed character.

And the world? Well, I'll leave that for you to go and explore. But this isn't an ordinary world. You will discover and learn many things; some of which you never thought would be possible. Some of you may try and unlock the secrets of magic to bend elements to your will, whilst others may pursue strong materials to build and create weapons with. Like I said: this RP is going to be all about choice and development.

Survival is the key aspect of this game. You will need to craft in this new world to survive. Food, water, and warmer clothes is a must - use your own creativity (to a realistic extent) to create things such as traps, shelters, whatever  will make your survival more comfortable to you. You may find treasures that can aid your progression, or discover secrets beneath the Earth that will make you rocket through the tiers of survival.

Whilst this RP is going to appear simple and without much detail at first, it's going to evolve into more. A lot more. I don't want to give away too much detail, it'll be much more fun for you all to discover the world I've created as we go along.

To summarise, expect a survival RP with magic aspects, which centres around exploration and character development. Do you need to be an amazing RP'er to play this? No. I'm not necessarily looking for beautiful paragraphs that will bring a tear to my eye, I'm simply here for you all to enjoy yourselves.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Rules. Read Them.

01 - Thou shall not slay others of their kind without valid reasoning. (Don't be a jerk and kill everyone)
02 - Thou shall not try to create things from thin air. Those that do are merely hallucinating. (Don't Godmode)
03 - Thou shall not have a resemblance to a phallic object. (Don't be a dick.)
04 - Thou shall abide the words of the Lord that has bestowed this world upon them. (Respect the GM. Don't worship me though)
05 - Thou shall not allow the temptation of the devil - lust - to overthrow them. (Sex is allowed for having children only. Don't write about it like a porno.)
06 - Thou shall try to be clear-headed, and be perfectly understandable in their ways. (Tell me what you want to do in your posts. Bold helps.)
07 - Thou shall write the word: 'Pancakes' in purple writing at the bottom of their character sheet to prove to me they listen. (Write Pancakes at the bottom of your CS.)

Questions You Might Be Wondering

B-But Jakers, aren't you going to tell us the mechanics?
No. Not because I can't be bothered, but to leave it as a surprise. Not hyping up the best mechanics in the world here or anything, I just want to see you adapt to your situations adequately.

B-But Jakers, what if a scary wolf attacks me? Will I need to know some kind of combat mechanic?
Combat will be very self-explanatory, and you will learn spells and skills as you go along. It will all make sense in the IC, young one, fear not.

B-But Jakers, how am I meant to post? Am I meant to know anything about the world around me?
Basically, you don't know about yourself yet, but you'll still be able to talk and think like a normal person today would. You aren't cavemen/cavewomen, so don't worry about that! You're all just extremely confused, and wearing really unstylish t-shirts.

B-But Jakers, what if I can't think of what to post/I'm unable to post for some reason? Will you kill me?
Of course not! Just make sure you announce hiatuses here on the OOC, so I don't have to wait for you.

B-But Jakers, what if I went for a little while and now there's tons of posts?! :'(
Fear not! Using my power as a GM, I will do everything I can do get you back on track. Whilst AFK from updates, I will not be harsh and say you got eaten by a wolf. I know timezones are a thing.

B-But Jakers, how often are you going to update this you sexy beast?
Once a day? Twice a day? Something around those lines. Updates will be dependant on what everyone's doing. If I'm just responding to basic dialogues with one of my NPC's, then it won't take long. Try to get a lot done in a non-combat post to make up for this slow update speed.

B-But Jakers, I didn't want to call you a sexy beast in that previous question, why did you make me say that?
This is a clear sign that I've ran out of questions that might be asked. If you have any more, don't be shy to ask to your heart's content in the OOC.

Character Sheets

A simple character sheet. Don't fill in things that I've already filled out, obviously. Remember to click [select] to copy the character sheet, then paste it to easily fill it out!

When choosing statistic strengths/weaknesses, here's a list of the ones you can pick:

Strength - Will allow harder hitting, the ability to carry more items, etc.
Endurance - Will allow to go through rough conditions, and keep going strong whilst hungry/thirsty/etc.
Dexterity - Will allow for more complex and precise tasks. Such as firing a bow, setting a trap, etc. Very useful for crafty types.
Agility - Will allow for faster running, increasing manoeuvrability, and improved abilities to move through rough terrain.
Intelligence - Will allow for improved understanding of the world, and the ability to learn new skills faster.
Spirit - Will allow for easier understanding of spells in the late game, and improved interactions with mystical creatures.

This spot will be reserved for a list of our humans in a quest to find who they are. Both the humans controlled by me - JCC's (Jakers controlled characters) - and the humans controlled by you - PCC's (Player controlled characters.)

Reserving spots from this point, asking questions or generally talking is perfectly fine. Go ahead!

Great! Character sheets are up; I'm aware there isn't a lot of choice yet, but feel free to make your character look cool as you like, so long as it's human. Remember, you're all wearing white cotton shirts and white cotton pants, so don't go telling me you have a cool cowboy hat or awesome leather trenchcoat or something.

I recommend you edit your posts to add the character sheet in, so it's easier and doesn't clog up the OOC. Remember not to change what I've put for the name, karma, blah blah etc. If you're wondering how you're going to be a character without a name, then don't worry! Perhaps your nice friends in this strange new world will have lovely nicknames for you that you can use.

IC is up! If you haven't made your character yet, don't worry about it! This is just an introductory thing, not the real gameplay just yet. If you're a little late to join or something, just say you were having a siesta in the dry grass patch.

Oh, and if you're wondering about joining if you haven't already, then it's absolutely open. Join whenever you please.

Okay! You can all now post actions. If you're wondering what the x/10 meters are, then here's an explanation:

The brown meter is hunger. It will slowly fall, but will take a good meal to get it fully back up again.
The teal meter is thirst. It will fall quite fast in comparison to hunger; once you find clean water, it should be no problem.
The white meter is warmth. Warmth can go above 10, but being to hot can never kill you. Unless you're dying in a fire.

When consuming something, then I will tell you how much hunger/thirst it increases/decreases. For example:

Rabbit On A Stick | +4 | +0 |

Remember the colour codes! Unknown consumables will have unknown effects on your thirst and hunger. For now there are only three meters to keep an eye on, but like I said, this will get more complex as we go along.

Also, choices you make will affect your Karma throughout the RP. Your Karmic choices will be dependent on which God visits you now and again. For now you're all neutral...

And finally, don't think you all have to stay in one camp. Whilst it would be nice to have the group all together, you can seperate if you wish. Don't think you have to stick to one camp either. You can set up temporary camps, move on, and set up base somewhere else. I suggest you all create a 'hub' where you can survive together.

And if you're wondering what actions to do, you can say dialogue for example, then go and do something. It would help if you put actions in bold. Here's an example:

"That guy in a pink suit was pretty sexy." I say. I then look around the group nervously, feeling somewhat shy of the group for what I'd just admitted. "Uh... I'll go... look for a rock?" I go and look for a rock, and pick up my satchel.

That's all the help you're getting for now! Happy surviving; it's a wide world out there!
P.S: This RP is going to be hard. Make an obvious, potentially fatal mistake and you will die. Have fun though!

Dafuuuuuuuuuuq, I was sure I put you there! I must be going crazy. Either way, it's fixed now. /hugs

Also, I should announce something else while I'm here. If you want to examine the surroundings, for example, how tall the grass is (you might be planning to use it as binding or something I dunno), then ask about it here, and I'll answer it! Whilst I won't tell you exactly what everything is, I can give you a brief description of features of the surrounding area in the OOC to avoid you having to wait for a whole update to look at a flower or something.

How many sticks are in a bundle? Can we use your teacup for bartering? If I make enough traps what are the chances we'd catch something?

Because I'd want some form of food before I moved on.

>Sticks are plentiful to be picked around some of the younger trees of the forest. In a bundle, there are 10 sticks (considering that they're medium sized.) With your mighty arms, you could probably bearhug/carry a pile of 25 or so sticks at a time.

>It depends if someone or something in this world wants the teacup. Perhaps the pink suited man will come back to get it one day, or he might have left it behind on purpose. Either way, it's a very dashing shade of pink. Let's hope Wilson doesn't drop it.

>You're unsure any ground animals around you, although the chirping of birds does prove that there are certainly some flighted animals nearby. Birds such as crows, magpies, and robins commonly perch on high trees. You haven't seen any animals other than birds yet, so you're unsure.

Day 1: Lorknis already making moves on the honeys of this here group.

Day 2: Child birth is to be expected in 9 months

Day 3: Eaten by wolves, Wilson is the only survivor since the pink-suited man came back at the last minute to retrieve his teacup. Killing all wolves in the process.

Day 4: Wilson gets dysentery

Day 5: Due to Wilson's scent wolves hunt him down while he is vulnerable and eat him alive

Day 6: The pink-suited man takes up drinking because he was wrong about this group

Day 7, Week 2: A new group arrives, pink-suited man tells them they'll die before they begin

Day 87, Week Banana: New group beats RP

Quick OOC reminders!

Firstly, sticks are basically infinite in the forest. Although I'm not going to allow you to obtain hundreds of them in one turn, you're allowed to pick up sticks in forest zones without having to look around for them. So for example, you could say:

Quote
Jimmy picks up a stick from the forest floor, wondering if he could make it into a toothpick later.

Other 'infinite' resources include:
>Tree Bark
>Dirt
>Leaves
>Grass... you get the idea by now.

However, you have to find rocks and other things such as that. Also! By asking in the OOC, I will give you a perspective of your character's common sense (unless you took intelligence as a dump stat) on how good a nearby material would be for crafting. So you could say 'Jakers would my character think the grass would make a good binding' and I would reply with 'Yes, by the look of it your character thinks that the grass could be pretty good at binding things'. This is because you can't see the grass yourself, if that makes any sense.

Also, for Stop's decision, we'll flip a coin.

Heads = He goes to check out the lake
Tails = He goes back to the dry grass patch

Heads it is. Next update, Stop's character will go to the lake.

>Some tall patches of grass seem mildly sturdy, and could perhaps prove useful if tied into stronger - if still makeshift - cordage.

Alright, I'll edit the post now! Also, you won't lose too much karma for killing a squirrel, even if it might upset some... people. You do what you gotta do.

Also, you're in Nick, I'll add you somewhere next update. Pancakes>Crepes

And behold! The combat system! Very basic; you both roll against each other to compare your combat actions. Those squirrels didn't know what was coming to them, so they suffered a -4 penalty to the 1d20 roll.

I've been thinking however, if somebody gets in a fight with a wolf - for example - it's going to be pretty annoying to wait for an update for each combat turn. So I was thinking of making a 'Combat Thread' for when that time comes. Perhaps the 'Combat Thread' could also be used for dialogue with JCC's. I'll put up a poll now to see if you guys are on board with that idea.

I will wipe out your false religion and replace it with the CREPE PAPACY.

Honestly, make a combat thread, just have it have a title though something bad ass or...the squirrel holocaust for CERTAIN people. Combat moves dreadfully slow in your rps, I'd like it to move faster, because real combat barely every would last more then 10 minutes.

Would something like this be doable for a trap?

Also maybe anything magic about the 'lace since I took spirit as my strong stat?

If you could get the parts to that trap, yes. Might be hard considering you don't have a knife... better get creative.

Spirit improves magic when you unlock it, it doesn't randomly give you spells

Tis why I said like it not an exact copy. I'm largely thinking  using a single stick -uncut- to support a large flattish rock similar to what you see in that image(if possible), tying the cordage to the support stick, waiting then manually pulling the support out crushing and killing like a bird or rabbit.

BUT, I did find a sharp rock thing. So making it more like the image is possible!

That should work; I didn't expect you to do an exact copy of the thing hence I said 'better get creative'. Simply edit your post and I'll edit it in; you might need a lotta patience to do it manually though.

Correct! You were lucky to find a sharp rock though; they're pretty rare on my loot rolls.

Alright! Your action has been changed quite a bit (especially considering you worn the necklace this time).

@Rhodri - That action is probably going to take 3 turns, if not more. If you're fine with this, don't worry about editing... it just might require some patience.

Shelter seems to be the most pressing issue imo, in front of fire source and food, so I'm fine with it.
