Lucas:
After applying, you're sent off to the nearest Uniware training-facility on some lone planet.
There you're given an uncermonial, unsocial, and unforgiving month-long crash course.

"You dumb shits have decided to become light infatry, the backbone of every respectable military organization in the known galaxy.
Your jobs are as simple as they get, so even even you can't fail. You follow orders, and kill those we tell you to. Real grunt's work it is.
SO LET'S GET TO IT MAGGOTS!"

You're given basic armor. A light armored vest, elbow and knee pads, and a helmet. With the accompanying soldier's fatigues.
You're also given a battle rifle, capable of semi, auto, and burst fire modes. Along with the rifle, you also get an accompanying pistol, and a bayonet.

After successfully finishing the course, you're granted the rank of PRIVATE. Then you're marched onto an awaiting transport, sending you to where you're needed. (go to common paragraph at bottom)

"You ugly fucks have been sent here to become the cleaners of war. You burn their fortifications, you burn their machines, and you burn THEM! But you won't just be using fire, dipshits! You'll also learn how to use chemical weapons, and even radiation to kill!"

You're given a more protective suit of armor than the basic infantry. A whole-covering suit of reinforced chemical-resistant material, with only a gap of transparent glass to let you see the world outside. It's a bit hot inside, but the heavies have it worse.
As for weapons, they give you a basic flamethrower. It's capable of firing (heh) at targets up to mid-range, wether it's alive or not. As for a sidearm, they give you a machine-pistol to keep straped to your hip.

After successfully finishing the course, you're granted the rank of PRIVATE. Then you're marched onto an awaiting transport, sending you to where you're needed. (go to common paragraph at bottom)

You're given basic armor. A light armored vest (marked with a red cross), elbow and knee pads, and a helmet (also marked with a red cross). With the accompanying soldier's fatigues.

and maintain one of these noble Tank-Walkers, but also how to whip your fellow crewmembers into doing it for you!"

You're given very basic armor. A thin armored vest to wear over your fatigues, and a barret to indicate you commanding position.
As for a sidearm, they give you a pistol.

Welcome to Vita

Common:
For being military-grade transports, they're quite roomy. One can get quite the view of the planet the transports are decending upon. The surface is seemingly covered in jungle and occasional marches, and the seas look quite untamed.

You can see the transports decend upon a facility below, carved out from the dense jungle, consisting of a number of concrete structures of all shapes and sizes, although square and large being the dominant ones. A feminine robotic voice ecoes through the decks,
"Coming in for landing at; LUMBERYARD."

With a roll call, you soon find yourselves at the loading bays, waiting for the doors to open. The sergeant standing above the loading bay calls out;
"When those doors open, report to the briefing hall ASAP!"

With a thud as the transport lands, and a mechanical hum, the doors open wide. The light blinds you, and you're hit by a wave of fragrant, fresh air.
And thus you follow the stream into the briefing hall, where you take a seat.
Soon enough, everyone's seated, and a Uniware official walks up to the podium accompanied by two elite bodyguards.
"Welcome to Vita everyone. I'm Frederick Summers, the overseer here at Vita, were we at Uniware work hard to keep the resources flowing. I usually don't come to meet and greet new staff, but I've made an exception for you, since you're the largest group of new honest and hard-working staff to arrive since our initial arrival. I have places to be right now, but you feel welcome to Vita now, and remember the good work we do here.
Now, I'll let Colonel Darwin sort out the details."

The overseer leaves the podium with his guards, and is replaced by a worn-looking man with a scar across his face.
"Finally some new meat. While our good overseer would like to welcome you, I have the grave job of telling you that the planet does not want to give you a warm welcome."
A picture of a savage-looking alien is displayed on the screen above the colonel's head. It's a humanoid creature, much resembling a dog, or a hyena. It's wearing scraps of armor obviously taken from some fallen heavy, whilst wielding a more basic firearm. A firearm that's comparable to an old AK-47.
"The main thing threatening our precence here are these bastards. Scientists gave em' a name, but we just call em' hounds. They're a primitive species living in clans all over the planet, often out of sight, and hidden from us. Now as you may think, a primitive species alone can't be a match for us well-armed humans, but some bunch of bastards have gone and supplied them with firearms! Not that advanced firearms, but that just makes it easier for them to use 'em. Once I find out who's been supplying them...
Anyway, casualties have been high on the latest time, mostly since they've got the home advantage.
Look at the picture. Remember it. These will be the ones you'll have to be most vigilant for."
The screen changes to a form of slideshow, with pictures of various wild animals on the planet.
"Other than the hounds, we have the local fauna. There's a lot of them, and I couldn't be assed to name them all. So bottom line, be aware of this fucking planet and it's fauna.
NOW I WANT ALL GRUNTS TO REPORT TO YOUR COMMANDING OFFICERS, AND ALL TANK COMMANDERS TO REPORT TO THE GARAGE!
DISMISSED!"

You all clear out of the hall, and find yourselves in the Lumberyard.
There's the gate, where all commanding officers have gathered, and are waiting for the grunts. And the garage, where crews await their commanders.

There's also the various facilites around, like the mess, the armory (where one can spend personal money on gear), the hangars, some various storages, and the barracks.

[FROM HERE ONWARDS, YOU DECIDE WHAT TO DO. GOOD LUCK]

Slightly off put by the not-too-pleasant welcome by the CO and the Colonel, Duncan decides to simply make his way over the the garage as quickly as possible. The sooner, the better.

Wolf:
You make your way over to the garages, walking past combat and non-combat personel all around. The Lumberyard, while being one of the smaller facilities, is quite active with it's military precence and it's many resource transports moving about.

You enter garage 25, which along with all other garages, is massive. The roof must be at least 10 stories above you, where massive spotlight hang.

You walk among the many walker-tanks standing idly on the side of the middle passages, with it's crews either maintaining it, or simpy waiting for orders.
Soon enough, you find your designated walker, number 263. Beside it, are two crewmembers idly chatting.
"...so then I was all alone, and the hound was somewhere around me in the bushes, with a huge ass knife by the way..."
The one talking seems to be a younger recruit, with an easygoing demeanor. He seems a bit shorter than the rest, with loose blond hair.
The other one seems a bit more restrained and calm, of average height and very short black hair.

The shorter one stops telling his story the moment he spots you standing there, and quickly gets up to salute you. The other one follows suit, if only a bit slower.
"Corporal! Private James Einsworth reporting for duty!"
"Private Leon Warrick, reporting for duty..."

(So are these walkers ten stories high and seat only one pilot?)

"At ease, Privates," Duncan said, his hands kept behind his back, his stance wide, "Any word on when we will be moving out?"

Well then, quite an unceremonious greeting for a direct emissary of the Cleansing Flame itself, wasn't that? Paying no special mind to it, Saul trudges on over towards the gate, flamer held at a peaceful angle to his left, looking for whichever commanding officer must be his.
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)

Wolf:
((Nah, s'justa tank wit legs. 3 crewmembers. Garage is big to store em all. I'm bad at explaining stuff aren't I... :( ))

James eases up to his previous demeanour.
"Well, no sir. We were told to go here, make sure the walker is ready for action, then wait for our new commander. And we've made sure this thing is in the best damn condition it could be in!"
He gives a firm slap on the front plate of the walker.

The walker is a bipedal hull, with a turret armed with a 90mm cannon placed on the top. There's also a smaller turret on the belly armed with a twin 12mm machinegun.

"Though they did say something about reporting in readyness. Radio's inside corporal"
James gestures towards the open commander's hatch.

Father:
You make your way through the compound, past the busy workers and the occasional drilling units.
At the gate, you find your commanding officer. She's a proper-looking officer, wearing the uniform cleaned and straightened out by the book.
She looks at you, and gestures you over.
"You mut be our new flamer. I'm sergeant Rebecca Hansen. Are you ready to move out?"

"What happened to your last commander anyway?" Duncan said as he hopped into the commander's seat. He would then grab the radio and hail in, "This is Cpl. Miller, radioing in for Unit 263."

Saul holds his flamer in his left hand in order to do a crisp salute with his right, before pulling his hand down into a dignified bow. "Most certainly. Father Saul, Private, and High Priest of the Order of the Cleansing Flame, reporting for active duty, ma'am." His voice seems older than the man who possesses it, most likely a symptom of smoke inhalation.

Wolf:
"Well... he sort of got..."
"Pulled out of the tank and skinned alive."
"Jesus, Leon..."
"He asked."

As you radio in, they get into the tank aswell. Leon takes the gunner's position, and James takes the wheel.
"Roger that 263. We need a walker to support some pinned boys over east. Sending coordinates to your tac-map. Over"
The tac-map screen flips up in front of you, showing a map of Vita, along with a blinking white marker labeled: "SUPPORT".

Father:
The sergeant seems a bit suprised at your introduction, but proceeds anyway.
"Eh, good. We're needed to suppress the local clan, just a click north of here."
She rallies the squad, consisting of 6 light infanterists, one medic, and you.
You then begin the shorter than usual march north.

"Right, then. Consider me a missionary, spreading my faith." Saul jokes with a deep laugh from the depths of his suit, hoisting his flamer and marching in tune with the other soldiers.
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)

Father:
The journey over to the target zone is quite eventless as you travel along the pre-fabed road. Although the other rookies seem ecstatic about getting some actual action.

Soon you come across the problem command had with the hounds. It would seem that they've torn down trees ontop of the road, and on the other side of the tree, lies several wrecks of resource-transports. Accompanied with the drivers dead bodies strevn about.

It's quite. Well, there's the usual jungle noises, and the crackling fires of the wrecks, but otherwise it's quiet.
The sergeant points over to a nearby wreckage, and you all take cover behind it.
She then gestures up ahead, where you can see some movement in the bushes.
"Lights, suppress those bushes! Flamer, flank them!"

The light troopers emerge from cover, and open fire on the bushes ahead. They recive a volley of gunfire back, accompanied by gnarls and howls.
You're just out of range from them.

"Understood, Unit 263 moving to support target location." Duncan said in response to the radio. He then buckles into his seat and puts on his tactical visor before saying, "Alright crew, let's head to the designated location."
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)
Post by: Forrest on June 16, 2016, 07:01:12 pm
Taking a deep breath, Saul sprints out of cover, skirting along the bushes to the right until he's pretty sure that he's flanked the area of the bushes that the shots are emerging from. Taking up a position behind whatever cover is available, he waits for a moment, scanning cautiously and pinpointing the exact location of the enemy.
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)

Wolf:
"Right Corporal, moving to designated cooridinates"
The walker jolts as the engine screams into life. It rises up from the floor, and proceeds to stomp along the aisle towards the exit.
You notice that this walker is an older model (perhaps an M-67), still using a fuel engine, as opposed to a onboard-reactor. But regardless, it seems like it could atleast reach a nice 26 mph.

As you cross over the last hill, you get a view over the battle infront of you. It's an assembly of prefab structures, clearly put there for lumberwork. Although they now seem quite empty, used as nothing more than cover for the pinned Uniware soldiers within.
They're surrounded by maybe 20, 25 hounds armed with firearms.
The Uniware soldiers can barely get a single second to fire back at them.

"Seems like they're in a bad spot, coporal..."
"Hound self-propelled AA approaching from the jungle."
With Leon's warning, you turn your view to the jungle. There's an old rusty tread-carried hull coming closer to the fight, armed with two 50mm(?) anti-aircraft guns.
"Should I load an AP round?"

Father:
With the hounds pinned on the other side, you're able to somewhat safely get closer.
You're now about half-way to where the others are shooting.

You scan the area. They're definatively in those bushes up ahead, the way they're shooting around.
And there's also a group of 3 hounds that had the same plan you had, trying to flank you.
Both them and the possible hound location is close enough for some heat...
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)
Post by: Siege-Loli on June 16, 2016, 07:24:21 pm
(Are the rifle rounds strong enough to penetrate muh thick armor?)

"Load the AP and fire at will towards the AA gun. While doing so begin running the walker forward at full speed toward the hounds and let them have some 12mm bullets. Once we've drawn their fire we'll run back toward the Prefab structures to let the troops pick off the rest."
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)
Post by: Forrest on June 16, 2016, 07:25:34 pm
Seeing as how the hounds behind the bushes are in the process of being successfully pinned, Saul deems those attempting to flank him and his unit as the larger threat. Bringing his flamer to bear towards the trio of hounds making their way closer, he presses his index finger hard on the trigger, hopefully sending a stream of burning fuel cascading towards their general vicinity.
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)
Post by: HS1342 on June 16, 2016, 07:37:01 pm
Wolf:
((think ya tank can take them bullets. Hope they haven't got grenades))
"Loading AP."
"Since we haven't got a belly-gunner, I'll take manual control of the lower turret!"
"Loaded. Firing."
The walker jolts a bit as the cannon fires, and you watch as the round flies straight into the AA, and out on the other side. Leaving the hull to stop dead in it's tracks, possibly cause everyone inside's dead.
"Here we go, advancing."
"Loading HE."
The walker steadily jogs down towards the structures, whilst James fires towards the mob of hounds. It's practicly a bloodbath, since they're still shocked by your sudden appearance.
You take down about a dozen by the time you reach the buildings, where you can hear the soldiers cheer as they push the advantage.

You're now in front of the building, facing the jungle. The remaining hounds have retreated to the edge of the jungle to take cover.

Father:
You let the flamethrower piss it's burning fuel towards the flanking hounds.
They have no chance as they're covered in burning fuel.
They scream and howl as they run around, trying desperately to put out the fire.

They shouldn't be much more of a threat anymore, as long as they don't run into someone not wearing a flamer-suit.

"Ah, yes, YES! Rejoice, my canine brothers! Feel the fire seep in and root out the impurities and blasphemies of your being! It burns, yes, but oh, how it cleanses!" Saul preaches to the burning hounds, bringing his flamer, still firing its incinerating payload, towards the main group of hounds behind the bushes, hopefully alighting the foliage surrounding them.
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Welcome to Vita)
Post by: HS1342 on June 16, 2016, 07:46:05 pm
Father:
Yes, the others must get to feel the purging fire too.
You bring the muzzle over to point towards the main group, still in a firefight with the others.
The flames hits the bush, and all it's inhabitants, from left to right. Soon the entire general direction of where you literaly fired is now engulfed in flames.

And you can hear more screams and howls as they run around, fur on fire.
If you didn't have a filter on your suit, you'd probably smell some well-done meat, mixed with burning hair.

Your squadmates cease fire, and look carefully at the burning hounds. The rookies don't seem amused by the smell.

"Excellent work now hold fire and reposition behind a building while I call this in." He says as he taps the buttons on the side of his visor.

"This is Unit 263, situation nominal, requesting further orders."

Wolf:
"I don't think that's neccecary sir, but I'll lower the hull."
The walker sort of kneels down, giving it a smaller profile, also giving some cover for the infanterists behind.
You radio in for further orders as the retreating hounds fire loosely towards the walker, giving a nice "cling" everytime a bullet bounces off your armor.
Soon enough, the hounds are all gone into the deep jungle.

"Roger 263. That unit you rescued got delayed on the way to their objective, could you give them a ride to where they need to be, and give them some support while you're at it?"

"Roger Command. Unit 263 out." And with that, Duncan enables the outer transmissions and tells the infantry, "We shall be assisting you on your operation. Please continue towards your objective."

With that, Duncan orders his crew to follow the infantry while he mans the 12mm guns.

(I imagine I can do so while the other dude drives the tank?)

Saul waves his burning flamer around in the air, laughing uncontrollably and dancing around on his heavy flameproof boots. "YES! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! Oh, just resplendent!" He chortles, finally ceasing the spray of fuel from his weapon. "Ah...now then, that's settled, isn't it?" He asks innocently, turning to his commander and ignoring the disgusted rookies.

(I go offline for a few hours... :P)
Stefan looks about the landing zone, taking in all areas of interest, before moseying over to the medical tent.
"Giving guns to the natives. Sounds like someone protecting their own business interests. Might have to see of they pay better." He thinks to himself while walking, mulling over how difficult it would be to smuggle war material out of a base like this.

Wolf:
"Roger that 263. Alright boys, we're getting a ride to the target zone! Mount up!"
Outside the walker you hear the squad of infatrymen climb up and get comfortable on the hull.
"They'll have to dismount if we run into combat, corporal."

You consider manning the belly-gunner's station below you. It would be possible, but it would leave the commander's seat empty. You could go down there if you're certain you want to, but it would surely be best to let James remotely man it.

"Moving to target zone."

Soon, the walker reaches the edge of the lake east of the Lumberyard. You take place on the top of an overlooking cliff, in the shade of the vegetation, yet with a good view of the water's edge.
Below you, next to the water lies a village. It's not that big, roughly 16 huts of variyng sizes.

The hitch-hiking squad dismounts, and the squadleader contacts you.
"The colonel wants this village gone, but they've got a bit more defences prepared now that they knew we were coming..."

It's hard to see anything from your viewports. But there's a pair of binoculars hanging beside you, ready to be used if you want to open the hatch and take a look for yourself.

Father:
The sergeant seems quite repulsed by the sights and smells aswell, but it doesn't look like it's going to slow her down.
"Ugh, let's not celebrate too soon! The rest of them are probably hiding out at the outpost further inside the jungle! Move it! Into the jungle doubletime, and be ready!"

Crawler:
You'd figure smuggling equipment out of the base would be quite a feat, considering the heavy military precence.
As you ponder about making money, you wander along the compound, looking for the medical tent.

By following the signs, you don't end up at a tent, but rather a smaller concrete structure.
Inside you come face to face with the strong and mixed smells of a well-used hospital, along with 2 opposing rows of bunks, all occupied by both wounded soldiers and non-combatants.
There's a lone medic walking from bed to bed, seeming quite stressed.

Lucas:
You meander over to the gate, and find your new squad.
It's a smaller squad, consisting of 2 other lights, one heavy, one flamer, and the rough-looking CO.
"Fucking finally brought your slow ass over here, huh?!"
He's definitively a veteran, and a sergeant first class (SFC) no less. He sternly points at the tight formation of your squadmates.
"GET YOURSELF INTO LINE, CAUSE WE'RE MOVING OUT!"

Hawk:
You must have dozed off a minute there, since you find yourself at the hangars at the Lumberyard, waiting on the side for the maintenance crew to bring you your aircraft. A stressed-out staffmember walks up to you, fliping through his PDA.
"Airman Jacob Mason? Sorry for the delay, but we've had a hell of a day equiping all the new arrivals. It's also been screwing up our system, so it seems like your assigned aircraft's been missplaced. So I'll simply ask you personally; what aircraft were you trained to operate?"

"If you ever learned something from the last Tank Commander, it should be to never leave the damn Tank Walker..." Duncan says quietly as he considers his options. He then decides, "Alright, we'll angle the tank cannon and provide some fire support from up here. Radio in if the resistance becomes too heavy and we'll move in to engage."

Lucas:
"Stay in formation, and follow my lead! MOVE OUT!"

With little to no information on where you're going, and what you're going to do, you're marched southwards.

It's a long and strict march, thus you soon find yourself getting sore all around.
Eventually though, your march reaches the end of the road. Specificly, you reach a massive, fenced off oil-extraction site. In the middle of the many various pumps tied together by pipelines, stands a towering refinery, It's tall chimneys spewing thick smoke into the air.
At the gate of the fenced off area you're met by a platoon of soldiers. Their CO speaks to your own CO.
"Sierra 8 reporting for duty!"
"Excellent. We need someone to patroll the perimiter. The previous squad perished in that last attack."
"Understood!"
Your CO turns to the squad, points at 2 lights and the heavy, and you.
"You lot come with me to patrol the western fence. The rest of you patrol the eastern fence. Report any disturbance. MOVE IT!"

Wolf:
Leon opens his hatch, and surveys the village.
"With all due respect corporal, our previous commander got killed when he opened the hatch to try and stab the hound on the walker. He had balls, but he opened at a poor time..."
"Seems like there's atleast 3 tanks down there corporal. Along with a dozen evenly spread fighters. I'd suggest we carefully coordinate this with the infantry..."
"Well we're moving down there, quietly. I'll advise when we start the attack."

Hawk:
"Right, then that's the plane I'm assigning you to then."
He points at a slightly used tactical CAS-plane numbered 109. Slightly sturdy in design, and powered by a single jet engine on the tail, the TGS-21 is a hard nut to crack, and nice plane for the ground forces to see flying overhead.
You note that the plane has been armed in advance with a pair of rapid-fire 30mm cannons, 4 smaller bombs, and 2 air-to-ground AT-missles.
"When you're ready, report in to the control-tower."

Smasher:
Seems like you dozed off for a bit there during the transport.
The drill-sergeant chews you out for loosing your equipment, then points you towards the armory to be re-equiped.

"Ok, here's the standard engineer kit..."
The quartermaster hauls up an assortment of gear on the table.
There's the light armor, consisting of a vest, a helmet,  the elbow and knee-pads, and your wrist-PDA.
Then there's the shotgun, the pistol, your tools, and your new personal drone, armed with a 9mm gun.

After you're geared up, you end up outside, at the main road through the Lumberyard.
Seems like your squad left without you, so you'll have to find something else to do. Maybe the garage, the hangar, or even the hospital has something that requires an engineer.
Or you could simply reassign to a new squad at the Lumberyard-HQ.

"Still though, you can never be too sure..." Duncan said as he took his Private's position in the tank hatch and uses the binoculars. He'll wait for the attack to begin before ordering his main gunner to target the tanks with AP.

Wolf:
You open your hatch, and emerge with the binoculars. Leon goes back in through his hatch, and unloads the loaded HE-shell.

The wind is quite refreshing if you like the smell of the lake, and the jungle all around rustle in the wind.
You look down at the village.
To the far left, you see the squad sneak closer and closer to a dug-in tank. It's a treaded tank, and a rusty one at that. But the cannon is quite big, maybe 105mm? A shot in the turret should take it out with a bang.
Further in, there's a group of 6 hounds, hiding in a trench.
Another bit in is the village proper, where hounds of all ages and professions are doing their things. There's a bunch of young hounds playing around the second tank, standing idle in the middle of the village. It's identical to the former, and It seems empty right now, but the crew surely isn't far away.
Finally, the right front is guarded by a tank facing right, along with another trench with hounds.

The squdleader shimes in on the radio
"Are you ready? We'll definatively need help with those tanks!"
You can see the squadleader hiding in a ditch, looking up at you. His squad seems ready to go.
"AT-shell loaded. Need a target corporal."

You shotgun is in a pretty nice condition, loaded with slugs no less.
You head on over to the hangar, looking for something to do.

The hangar is filled with all kinds of combat aircraft, and a handfull of transporters. Some could use some repairs, but it's nothing that bad, so the maintenance crew should be able to handle them.
You ask the head of maintenance in the hangars if there's something you could help with.
"I don't suppose the colonel sent you? I've been requesting someone to take a look at that damaged fence over by the very edge of the runway. I swear, if someone comes to me with another aircraft suffering from "local fauna in engine" again..."

Hawk:
You hop on into the TGS-21, and radio in readiness to the tower.
"Roger that 109. Air support required out by the sea to the west. Taxi onto runway 3 and take off. Will provide channel with requesting squad..."

Wolf:
"Roger that 263, begining attack!"
Leon turns the turret, and targets the first tank. The walker jolts, and a shell goes flying. It burrows into the hull of the tank, and it erupts into flames. Seems like you hit an ammo rack.

The assault team uses the initial shock from the tank's destruction to get it's flamer close enough to the trench.
He sprays flames into it, sending 5 hounds running up in flames. The 6th hound retreats into the village, where the local population has begun to scream and panic.
Seems like the crew of the middle tank is running to mount up, and the right hounds are making their way to the left through the village.
The assault team rushes towards the cover of the village, making themselves vulnerable for a moment.
"Loading another shell..."
James sprays the 12mm at the village, hitting only a bunch of villagers.
With a clunk, the cannon is reloaded.

Joggin across the still-active runway isn't that fun, so you quicken the pace to a run. You survive across, and have managed to configure the PDA basicly. Could use a bit of more work, but you're at the hole in the fence.

While the runway is cut down to ensure that no pilot gets to feel the embrace of the jungle, the other side of the broken fence is a dark, odd-sounding place. There's nothing making noise in there that you can recognize.

The fence seems to have been torn down by something big as an elephant. The wires that hang there alone are also a bit bloody, making it seem that whatever tore down this fence, got hurt doing so.
Nethertheless, you could surely repair the fence. You'll just have to re-attach the wires to the pole in the middle, wich you'll havet o re-weld to it's base. But it seems like the middle pole is nowhere to be found on this side of the fence.
Maybe the animal dragged it a bit into the jungle? Well either you could take a look, or try to find a replacement.

Wolf:
"Sorry corporal"
James stops firing the twin 12mm.

The turret turns a bit to the right, and targets the tank in the middle of the village.
"Firing."
The walker jolts once more, and a shell flies off. It slams into the turret, and detonates pre-maturely for some reason. But the turret is disconnected from the hull, thus making it impossible to operate anymore. And with such a turn of events, it seems like the crew has decided to join the hounds on foot as they attack the assault team.
Speaking of wich, the assault team is now in the village, and it seems like they're engaged by the hounds on foot. But it seems they're also taking fire from a building equiped with a heavy machine-gun they've kept hidden until now.
"263 we need help here! That MG is going to tear us appart!"

You hear the cannon being loaded.
"Loaded A-"
Leon is cut short as a shell slams into the hull, and ricochets into the sky. Luckily it only damaged the paintwork.
Seems like the right-most tank has spotted you, and is reloading their cannon. Their commander is turned outwards, and is looking straight at you.

Well, first time into the breach.
Your pistol is fully loaded with 9mm FMJ rounds. You have enough ammo to spare for it too.

Wolf:
James opens up on the building housing the HMG. The twin 12mm is a bit inaccurate, making it hard to hit the gunner. You manage to eventually take him out, but not before he managed to fire a burst at the assault team's flamer.
The flamer takes the heavy bullet right into the tank, thus exploding him along with a couple of close hounds.

Next up, the turret turns once more to target the last tank.
And with a final jolt, the shell goes flying stright into the hull of the tank. It's a penetrating hit, but it doesn't explode. Judging by the commander's reaction, it would seem that you've taken out his crew. He promptly ejects, and runs like hell away from the village.

Seems like the team has finished the final hounds now.
"Thank you 263. Shame about Terrance, but we would all be dead without ya. We're moving in on the main objective!"
They quickly regroup, and proceed to breach the largest building in the village.
A mere moment later, they emerge with a captured hound. He's handcuffed, and has a bag on his head. Judging by his clothes, he's a higher rank than the rest of them.
"We're calling for an extraction. If you come on down, they could carry you back to the Lumberyard!"

You decend into the dark jungle.
It's... well, dark. And humid at that. The plants all around you seem very unlike anything on earth. In appearance atleast. There are flowers that one could compare to smaller palms, and the colors are quite abundant. But less pleasant are the insects, because they're really getting in your face. Luckily you've been vaccinated against all the common deceases before you arrived.

You reach the end of the slope leading back up to the Lumberyard, and find yourself in deep jungle.
But for some reason, there's a less-than-usually notable path leading further into the jungle.
The pole lies here, wrapped in the local fauna. You note that the end of the pole seems jagged, like if cut with a crude saw.

Wolf:
James puts the walker in motion, and gently decends the cliff using whatever foothold available.
In a minute or four, you're on the cleared plain around the village. The evac-VTOL flies overhead, and lands in the center of the village.
You make your way into the village, past the husks of now disabled tanks.
As you pass huts, you occasionally spot villagers cowering in fear, looking fearfully at your walker as you pass.

But the moment you reach the center of the village, Leon (who's currently turned out from his hatch) calls out an approaching aircraft.
You see a massive Atlas transport-plane coming in from the south-west, heading north-east. It's a heavy Uniware transport, probably carrying something big. They're like flying citadels, and the hounds lack the firepower to take them down.

Before you're even given a chance to dismiss the common sight, you hear a distant missle launch.
The rest happens fast.
A large SAM-missle, coming from somewhere on the other side of the lake, flies with reckless abandon towards the plane. They launch countermeasures, but it appears to be in vein. The missle slams into one of the big engines, and the plane starts to lose altitude.
It soars past you, and slams into the distant jungle in the east.
"OH MY GOD!"
"They shot down an atlas..."

The colonel surely wants this to be reported in...

Lucas:
You set your rifle to burst, and begin the patrol. Since you're patroling with the veteran CO, there's little talk.
For a while the squad walks back and forth along the fence, with very little happening.

But eventually, something happens. The CO recives a call, and you find yourselves rushing over to a smaller gate on the side.

There you find the site's commander, and the rest of your squad.
The CO and the commander speaks, then you find yourselves marching along a poorly kept jungle road.
Soon you reach the edge of an active village. There are hounds of all ages, doing whatever they do.
You find yourselves in cover, and the CO finally gives you an objective.
"After harrasing our production one to many times, the commander wants this village GONE. Kill them all, and burn it down."

Father:
Enthusiasticly you follow the commander. Straight to the enemy outpost.
It's a small outpost, surrounded by a palisade. The hounds have wasted no time, and have mounted the towers and walls to fire at you.

You find yourselves pinned down by some dead trees. There's plenty of those around too, so there's little lack of cover.
The sergeant hold her berret as she's crouched behind cover.
"There's most likely some kind of leader in there, and we could use him alive! Kill the rest, but get me the leader!"
She then opens fire with her handgun, without looking out of cover.

Hawk:
System booting... Done
Checking fuel... Done
Engine firing up... Done
Checking munitions... Done
Startup complete.

You taxi over to runway 3, and with the permission of the tower, you throttle up. As you reach the point of no return, you pull back your stick, and acend into the skies.
With a minor adjustment of heading, you're on route. ETA: 4 minutes.
You then pronounce your inevitable arrival to the squad in need
#ABOUT FUCKING TIME! WE'RE GETTING HAMMERED HERE!#

Might be a good time to ask for targets and threats.

Alex:
You wake up in the transporter's bunkhouse. You get a glance at the clock.
You're late.
You're like, court-martial late.

If you're found out, there's going to be hell to pay.

You quickly gear up, and peak into the hallway leading towards the main exit. There's a lone guard moving towards you, probably to walk past. You pull back. He didn't see you.
You noted that the opposite hallway lead towards the cockpit. A place with an alternative exit.
And lastly, there's a wide vent in the the bunkhouse you're currently in. But you have no idea where it leads.

"Roger, ma'am!" Saul shouts over the gunfire. He leans halfway out of cover, pushing the muzzle of his flamer out, before attempting to fire a large stream of burning fuel onto the palisade wall. Hopefully they'll have trouble shooting from a fort that's on fire.

Father:
You do what a flamer does best, and engulf the small outpost in flames.
Hopefully the commander's safe inside...
The hounds on the palisade scatter, trying to get out of the inferno. Some run across the palisade, some jump off to eventually die anyway, and some keep fighting even as they're being cooked.

Suddenly you feel something hit the tank on your back. A quick glance reveals that it's been pierced on the upper half, going straight through, making 2 holes. Could be a sniper around somewhere.
But you ought to call yourself lucky, becase the fuel didn't erupt into flames! The tank's failsafe has a 50-50 chance of stopping eruption, so it's a good day.

But alas, you are now losing pressure and fuel fast. Soon the flamer will be nothing more than a paperweight. For now, your range has been halved.

You're still in cover behind a dead tree, next to your CO. You're still taking fire from 2 hounds with automatics in a tower behind the burning palisade. You note that there are only 2 other light infantries alive, the rest now lying lifeless in pools of their own blood.

Wolf:
#An atlas? They shot down an atlas?#
There's some muffled talking. The colonel is probably checking something.
#The atlas that was supposed to fly over your current position was carrying a priority cargo! And they shot it down? WITH A SAM?!#
He loudly barks out orders to the people next to him. You can't make them out.
#Listen, I need you to get over there ASAP! Secure the crash site! It will take some time to get reinforcements there, but you MUST SECURE THAT CRASH SITE, UNDERSTAND?!#
He sounds very concerned.

The assault squad's leader shouts to you from the hovering VTOL.
"We need to get this HVT to the Lumberyard, but good luck to you!"
The VTOL flies off east, towards the Yard.

You note that the scared villagers have started to come out of their huts.
One of the younger villagers has even gotten close enough to examine your walker, seeming awed by it.
Leon quietly keeps an eye on the villagers.

Crusher:
In a quite clever move, you launch the drone from your pack to scout further in while you repair the fence.

After pulling the pole back up, repairing the fence is trivial. You weld the pole back in place, and re-attach the wires into it.

Before you're able to put the final wire in, your PDA lights up. Seems like the drone has found something.
The camera shows 2 humanoid heat-signatures. In the regular camera mode, it would seem that the signatures are behind some kind of loose camo-plate in the middle of the jungle. The location looks a bit like a burrow.

Hawk:
#We're on a transport ship here, and the hounds have surrounded us with patrol boats! There's 6 of them, all armed with some heavy machine guns! They're trying to board us, but we're keeping them at bay right now!#
You hear heavy gunfire in the background.

You're almost there now. 1 and a half clicks away you see the large transport ship, and the dots around it being the PT-boats.
Seems like 4 of them are on your side of the ship, and the other 2 are hidden behind it.
You're coming in fast.

Alex:
With reckless abandon, you open up the vent and crawl in.
It only goes in one direction, so you don't have much choice where to go.

You crawl along the vent for a while in darkness. After a turn at the end, you end up in the main ventilation shaft.
You're standing on an edge, and below you is a fast-spinning fan. Death, in other words.
On the other side is another vent. There's a ledge that you might be able to jump to, then to enter it.
Lastly, there's a ladder leading to the top of the shaft. There's a bulkhead on the top, leading up.

Lucas:
"Yes, all of them! And you don't need a plan for these creatures. Just don't let them get the drop on you. COME ON!"
Your CO leads the rest of the squad towards the village, firing at the villagers. They advance slowly in a line at first.
Several villagers don't even get a chance to react, but they're the lucky ones, because the flamer brings more painful ends. He sprays at both villagers and huts, leaving flames to erase the village.
The line scatters as the villagers flee screaming into the village, and your CO shouts loudly as your squad runs into the village.

"By the Light of the Flame, my resolve remains unshaken!" With this short prayer to the Cleansing Flame, broiling eternally in its incandescent light at the center of the universe, Saul sprints from behind cover, keeping himself low to the ground as much as possible without sacrificing speed. Hopefully darting around the small fort, he approaches the small tower in a semi-suicidal charge and tries his best to completely douse the two hounds in what remains of his fuel reserves.

Alex:
Your crime was being late...
You prepare to jump across the ventilation shaft. Since you're on a ledge with no way to go, a simple jump will have to do.
You lean forward, and make a leap for the other side.

Failing to put your feet on the other ledge, you almost fall to your certain death. But luckily, you manage to grab a hold of said ledge, and pull yourself up.

You are now on the other side of the shaft.
The shaft creaks, and shakes a bit. Considering that this is an interstellar transport, it might be time for it to leave soon...

Wolf:
"Copy that corporal, moving to the crash site."
Leon shouts to clear the villagers out of the way.
"Fastest route would be to follow the road surrounding the lake. Hang on, this is going to get bumpy!"

The walker goes into motion. You leave the village, and it's shaken inhabitants alone for the time being. Once you're out of the narrow village, the walker goes into full speed. In other words, it runs along the lake-side road.
Every step it takes is heavy and the stabilisers have a hard time keeping up, so for every step you jolt in your seat, and the loose objects in the tank are going all over the place.

Eventually, you reach the end of where the road can take you. So it's off-road from here. Thus you're forced into a stable walk again.

It takes you a total of 40 minutes to get close to the crash site.

You walk along the jungle, and finally come into view of the crash site. Since the Atlas is a massive plane, the crash is obviously massive aswell.
Everywhere you look you see piles of twisted metals, wires, and pipes. The crash is also dotted by fires, burning heavily as it's fueled by the planes splashed fuel.
Your crew is silent.

But you note one unusual thing.
The site is covered in tracks, suggesting that there's already been someone here. The tracks suggest a lot of armored footsoldiers, and even walkers.
You can also note that some parts of the wreckage have been moved, suggesting that there's been an extensive search.

From where you are, you could either move towards the remains of the cargo bay, or the front of the wreck where the cockpit should be. The front seems to have little to no tracks near it.

Father:
Bravely you keep low, and move closer and closer to the outpost.
You dodge a bullet here and there, but eventually you succeed to get into a good range to pour the remaining fuel onto the tower.
The last hounds scream, and eventually cook.

Your flamer is now not only lacking fuel, but is also depressurized. You can't have it fixed in the field.

As the tower begins to burn to ashes, a log of the palisade falls outwards, dragging the small gate down with it. Clearing a path into the main building.
You note that your CO is trying to keep one of the last 2 soldiers from dying, while the other is moving up towards you.
But as he gets up to move to another cover, his head erupts a fountain of blood. There's definatively a sniper, and this time you got a good idea where it came from.
In a tree 10 meters away from you spot the hound sniper. He's been well hidden in some foilage, but now that you've got him in sight...
It seems that he's unaware of your position, and is currently taking aim at your CO.

"Sniper!" Saul shouts. Hopefully, that short exclamation will get his CO to take cover, as he drops his flamer, pulls his machine pistol from his holster, and fires an automatic spray of bullets towards the sniper's general position. Not to kill, though hopefully he'll get lucky and score a hit, but to provide cover fire for his CO.

Perhaps, Saul hopes, that'll give her an opening to take the kill shot.

Duncan will order to head towards the cockpit first to check for survivors and possibly pull some data off of the nav-computers too see why this ship would've been targeted out of the others. He'll then radio in, "This is Unit 263, I have arrived at the crash site. I have evidence to suggest that there is another, equally equipped, human faction has been here before us and has tossed the place already. I will still sweep for survivors and attempt to find the cargo."

Alex:
You acend the shaft, which is still shaking mildly.
At the top, you reach the bulkhead. It's electronicly operated, and luckily it doesn't need a code from the inside.

With little time to spare, you open the bulkhead, and crawl on out into the sunlight.
You're now on the top of the massive transport, still on the Lumberyard landing pad. But as it seems like it's about to pull out.

You quickly close the bulkhead, and make sure it's sealed. You then slide on down the sloped hull to the ground.
Just in time to, as the transport lifts off, leaving you to inconspicously walk off the landing pad.

You're now in the middle of the Lumberyard. Seems like noone has noticed you little stunt.

Father:
Maybe it's the suit slightly muffling you voice, or the noisy inferno close to her, but she fails to hear your warning call.
You toss the paperweight of a flamer, and pull your sidearm. The sniper notes you the moment you take aim, but alas it's too late for him.
Firing a burst from your machine-pistol, atleast 2 of them finds your target.

The hound looks silently pained as he falls to the ground, straight into a very dense bush. His rifle gets stuck in a branch, and remains in the tree.
There's movement, so you might have succeeded in simply wounding him.

Your CO is still busy trying to pull your squadmate out of death's grip.

But around you, things seem quite calm now. All around are either shot or burned bodies, and the last hostile is moaning in pain just in front of you, presumably unarmed.
The outpost is completely engulfed in flames, so there's little a chance that anyone's alive in there.

Smasher
The drone makes a final confirmative beep as it marks the location on your PDA, and returns.
You finish the fence just as it returns, and re-attaches itself to your backpack.

With the job done, you return to the hangar and briefly tell the guy in charge that the fence is done. Then it's off to the Lumberyard HQ.

Inside the HQ you see a couple of desks to deal with the administrative stuff, and behind them rows of manned control stations.
There's a man in casual clothes leaning at one of the desks. He looks at you, and straighten himself out.
"Need something private?"

Hawk:
You slow on down to get a bit longer to strafe. Then you angle downwards, and row up your first target.
The cannons roars, and streams of shells rain down on the unlucky buggers. It's a direct hit, and the PT-boat explodes.
It's then a trivial matter to adjust yourself a bit to the right, and take out another one.
Finally, you zero in on the remaining two to bomb.
You carefully predict the fall, and let them go one after the other. You then pass over the battle.

You look behind, and see that your bombs failed to hit them, and instead fell into the sea. Thus they did zero damage.
It's a bit hard to bomb naval targets, and even harder to bomb targets that small...

The screen suddenly lights up, screaming "LOCK". Someone's locked on with missle!

Wolf:
#Command to 263, roger that. The colonel is on his way with backup. Proceed to secure the site. Command Out.#
Command seems unfazed by your human claims.

James makes the walker move along the wreckage, heading towards the cockpit.
You keep an eye out for survivors, and the missing cargo. Leon has turned out to see around better.

The wreckage over by the cockpit is far denser, as it seems untouched. It would also seem that the front of the plane has been unequally split into 3 pieces. The tip, the right, and the left side.

You have the walker do what it does best, and walk around the area, looking around.
Eventually, Leon taps your shoulder and points at a piece of unpeculiar wreckage. As you look closer, you see someone lie under it, wearing Uniware heavy armor.
There's no way to tell if he/she's alive from the walker. But for what it's worth, the armor seems relatively intact. And that armor can protect from a lot.

Duncan orders the tank to get relatively close to the downed person before opening the hatch and leaving the tank himself (against his better judgement). He'll then attempt to free the person from their trappings while having the other two watch his back.

Wolf:
With the walker relatively close, you get out, and jump on down to the ground. James and Leon keep an eye on you and your surroundings.

You push the piece of suprisingly light wreckage away from the heavy. You then turn them over on their back.
There's no visible injuries, and the suit is definitively Unicorp.
The head-concealing helmet seems loose. You give it a light nudge with your boot, making the helmet fall off, and roll over to the side.
You've now got a pretty good look at the person behind the mask. For starters, it's a woman. She's got a painful-looking wound buried in her short black hair, and a split lip.

Seems like she's breathing though, and the jack doesn't seem to be more than a flesh wound.
Before you get to consider your next move, she slowly opens her eyes. She looks at you, seeming confused.
"Where... am I?..."

Wolf:
The woman gets up with your help, and rubs her head. You then walk over to the walker, and continue the discussion.
"I... don't know. They didn't tell me..."
She picks up her helmet, and inspects it. She then turns her attention back to you
"Private Moore, heavy engineer. Who are you guys?"

Alex:
You look around. The Lumberyard is an active base, with many units in motion, both combat and non-combat.
There's the Lumberyard HQ, the armory, the hangars, the garage, the hospital, some various barracks, and the base's bar.

There's no sight of any of the other soldiers you arrived with. But considering that you're quite late, they've probably moved on with their assignments.
Speaking of assignments, you have none. In training they taught you that if you find yourself without a squad and a CO, you should either reassign at the nearest HQ, or if on the field, join the nearest squad.
With Uniware's lacking organization however, this situation means you could pretty much do whatever. So long as no superior figures out you're without command.

Eventually, you hear the sounds of an entire wing of VTOL's. They spread out over the crash site, and let out various troops and equipment.
One of the VTOL's land next to your walker. Riding it is none other than the colonel.

"Good. I'll have this VTOL carry your walker back to the Lumberyard. Speak to the major in the HQ."
The medic finish bandaging Moore, and moves on.
"And take her with you. She's in need of a new squad. Dismissed."
The colonel walks over to the squads surveying the crash site, leaving you with your walker, and new squadmate.
"Well... seems like I'm a new crewmember? I've never rode in a walker. I've only got the basic technical rundown..."

You'll have to signal the pilot when you're ready to return to base.

Wolf:
((Remember the belly-gunner's seat? The one that James have been inefficiently filling remotely?))
"Ok, I'm willing to learn!"

You all mount up, and buckle in.
You signal the VTOL. It accends into the sky a bit, banks over to the air above your walker, and lowers a heavy cable. Leon gets out, makes sure it's securely attached, and returns to his seat.
And thus, the VTOL takes off, pulling the walker into the air with it. Since it's not a very powerful VTOL, it moves quite slowly. But by all accounts, it's faster than the walker could get back to base.

Eventually the VTOL comes in to drop you. It goes close to the ground, and the cable automaticly release the walker.
You hit the ground with a thud, but the legs manage to soften the impact nicely.

You are now in the yard in front of the garage. The sun is setting, hidden behind the treeline.
Your crew release their safety belts.

Smasher:
Refusing to be late again, you rush for the helipad.
As you approach, you see how VTOL's are lifting off one by one.

You run up on the platform, and hop up on the last VTOL.
You're now aboard, and the team welcomes you. There are heavy machineguns mounted on both sides of the VTOL, and the sides are open.
With open sides, the view is astounding.

The squadleader aboard the VTOL speaks to you.
"Almost left without ya kid. Do you know the battle-plan?"

Attention all units. The day has ended. The sun is replaced with Vita's 2 moons.

Wolf:
The walker is parked, and your crew begins to do a maintenance check.
You head on over to the HQ though, and eventually end up in the major's office.

He shakes your hand.
"Welcome to my band of special forces corporal. We call ourselves the marauders. Take a seat."
You sit down in his dimly-lit office. A small lamp hangs directly above his desk. It's one of the many weak lamps, to keep down the electrical needs of the compound.
You get a good look at the major though, thanks to the light. He's a middle-aged man, with a brown, full beard. His uniform is exactly that of a major, blue barret included.
"Wick's the name. Major Bob Wick. I hear you've had one of the best first days anyone's ever had on this god-forsaken planet?"

Smasher:
The formation of VTOL's soon comes into view of the tower. But the now gone sun is making it a bit harder to see. But you can see the tower. It's standing on the edge of a cliff, high up in the mountain. There's only one road to it, and it's been heavily fotified with walls and trenches.
Your VTOL stays in the rear as the ones in front goes in quick and heavy on the fortified approach.
You stay up in the air, as the VTOL circulates the battle.
Below you see the forces making progress with flamers and heavies. The door gunner is firing precicely down on the hounds below.

But soon enough, you spot something bad by the tower. The hounds pull back a tarp, revealing an AA-gun.
Before you've managed to warn anyone, it opens fire on your VTOL.
Wether the gunners suck at aiming, or pure luck, the shells fly past the open door, and instead hits the engine. The pilot grunts as the VTOL disregards his commands.
#Shit! Everyone hold on! WE'RE GOING DOWN!#

You spin out of control. Thus you're unable to see where the VTOL comes down.
Alas, soon enough it does.

But you're all ok. The pilot managed to land you close to the tower, just a mere 100 meters away. But between you and the tower sits the AA-gun.

You're now in cover behind the crashed VTOL. There are several hounds firing at you, and a couple of them are trying to flank you.
Your squad fires wildly, trying to stay in control.

Wolf:
"Noone can ever predict what this planet can bring you..."
He gets up, and walks over to the window, currently showing Vita's 2 moons shining in the star-clad sky.
"Whether it's good or bad."
He stands there for a moment, as if thinking about something. Then he returns to his chair.

"But I'm not here to discuss philosophy corporal. I'm here to discuss your unit."
He pulls out a folder with 3 documents. Every document has it's own image of an armored walker.
"I've been provided an array of vehicles to carry out the missions I hand to you. But I'm lacking capable crews."

-He pulls out a document, and puts it in front of you. It bears the picture of a walker of the same model you've been using today.
"When you arrived, they assigned you to the standard walker. Nothing special, pretty well-rounded."
He then puts up the other 2 next to the first.

-The second image is that of a light walker. It's bipedal, with a little bit longer legs, smaller hull, and in turn a smaller turret. There's no turret on the belly, but there are machinegun mounts on it.
"This is a lighter walker. It's faster, and more agile. But in turn, it's less armored, and less armed. Just a 75mm gun on it. But it does have machinegun mounts, making it capable of taking on both infantry and any possible air assets."

-The third image is that of a heavy walker. It's a quadrapedal tank, with a large, sloped hull. The legs look sturdy and strong. The turret is larger than the standard, and is armed with 2 90mm cannons on one picture, and a quad 20mm AA gun on a separate image.
"This is a heavier walker. It's a bit slower, but it's well armored, and well armed. It's like a small ship on land. It can both carry a fear-inducing quad 20, or a dual 90mm."

"So to summarize, I'm giving you and your crew the opportunity to switch over to another walker. You crew is qualified, and they're the optimal amount of crewmen.
Or you could stick to you current walker. The choice is yours corporal. Either way, I get a qualified walker to utilize."

Smasher:
((I assume you mean the AA gun, and not the organic, humanoid hounds.))
You take a careful look at the AA gun. It looks like a KAA-23. Four 23mm guns, forward-facing plates, and exposed ammunition at the turret base.
Hitting there with either an explosive or high-caliber bullet ought to send them flying.

Your squad manage to deal with the flankers, leaving only the AA-gun and the various hounds in front of you as threats.

Make sure your unit is ready for duty as soon as possible.
Dismissed!"

The major salutes.

Quite cleverly, you mount the HMG facing the AA-gun. It stands no chance against you, and neither does the hounds around it. The path to the tower is clear.

You advance to the observation tower is unhindered.

You reach the door of the tall concrete observation tower. The metal door is ajar, and you can hear hounds moving about inside.
Seems like there'll be close combat in there if you waltz in.
There's several gunports in the tower, all above you on different levels. They're quite wide.

The battle rages on at the approach. Seems like the teams are caught in a stalemate.

Alex:
There are a few teams returning for a required debriefing. Some more worn than the others. But most squads simply report in using the coms, making actual physical reports redundant.

You're in the Lumberyard HQ. There's a desk-jockey here, sorting idly through some papers. Seems like he doesn't have much to do.
The internal command center lies behind a glass wall, where only command-personel may be. In a hallway to the right are the officer's offices (heh).

Lucas:
You and your seemingly annoyed CO enter the village proper. Around you see the infantries going door-to-door, killing everyone inside.
The flamer is going around, setting the huts on fire.
You also note one soldier looting through one of the huts. Filled with the now-deceased occupants.

Your CO urges you to start cleaning the remaining houses. He begins doing the same, with a cold expression.

You launch your gun-drone, and let check through the gunports. There doesn't seem to be any hounds on the top floors. Only 2 of them on the second floor, watching the stairs up and down.

You're cut short by a bullet flying past, orginating from inside the tower.
They've got the door covered.

But since you've got enough to go on, you'd guess there's 3 of them on the bottom floor, all covering the entrance.

The drone quietly decends, and re-attaches itself to your backpack.
You then look around the tower, looking for an alternative route.

Alas, the observation tower has been built with security in mind, and thus have been given one bottleneck of an entrance.
The door is the only way in.

You're outside the large observation tower. There's still fighting over by the approach, but it seems like there's a couple of heavies on their way to assist.
There's also a wrecked VTOL here, along with a still functional AA-gun.

Lucas:
((I'm a sick fuck with issues...))
You decide that enough is enough, and stalk your CO as he enters a hut.
Inside is a cowering family of villager hounds. The CO calmly walks up to them, aims his shotgun...

You then take your bayonet, and rush up behind him. He notes your approach, but only manage to turn his head.
You thrust your bayonet into his neck. It goes in without problem. Blood gushes out, and some of it splatters on you. Keeping your hand on his mouth, he can only look at you with an expression mixed of rage, confusion, and a slight resignation.

It takes a minute, but he eventually goes limp. You drop him on the floor of the hut. The villagers before you stare at you. Looking a bit relieved, but mainly scared.

You've killed your CO. On the first day no less.

Outside you can hear your squadmates continue the slaughter in the flame and moonlight.

Alex:
((How rude. Come in late, and leave too soon. You're like the rescue services.))
You feel a hand on your shoulder.
"You're coming with me, punk!"

Seems like you were spotted during your daring stunt. And being a low-ranked private means that there most likely won't be a court-martial.
They drag you off towards the holding cells, and you know that you won't return home.

The 2 heavies takes your information silently, and proceed to charge through the door, guns ablazing.
There's heavy gunfire, then silence. You peek in, and see 2 shot-up (but still moving) heavies. Along with 3 dead hounds.

The heavies advance up the stairs, and you launch the drone to distract the last 2 hounds.
Your drone takes distract a bit differently, and opens fire with it's 9mm sub-machinegun. They are both taken by suprise, and end up with enough holes to be classified as dead.
The heavies moving up the stairs nod approvingly at the drone, and proceed to move upwards.

You move up to the second level.
There you find your dron hovering idly, waiting for more input. You give the drone a high-five, which it aptly reacts to, using it's little claw-hand.
You then have it re-attach to your backpack, as you follow the heavies to the 7th level.

There you find the tower's Command Console (CC). It seems like it's been tampered with a wee bit, but you restore it before use. A perk of being an engineer. It's now ready for your input.

The heavies move up to the level above, which is the final level. There you hear them fire down towards the soon-won battle.

Wolf:
A few hours rest, then you all return to the garage to find your new HAW-56 "Bear". It's a large quadrapedal heavy walker, armed with the requested dual 90mm turret. The belly is carrying a dual 12mm HMG. The hull is wide and curved on many places, making it hard to tackle. On the side is the number "16" in bold.

James seems at awe with the new walker.
"I though I had to get along with the old junk we've had for a month, into the beyond. This..."
He holds out his arms, pointing at the walker.
"Is not something I've ever expected. Thank's corporal, you're like a bottle of cold beer in the dark, warm, unforgivng jungle!"
He climbs on up, and takes his seat at the front of the walker, down his driver's hatch.

Leon quietly climbs up on the walker, and goes down into the gunner's hatch located on the right side of the turret. He looks around from outside the hatch, then dives in. You hear him shout, echoing out the open hatch;
"It has an auto-loader!"

Moore, still wearing her heavy uniware armor (minus the helmet, which she has strapped to her belt). She looks over the walker, and walks up to look closer at it. She seems intrigued, if still a bit nervous.
"So this is the walker I'll be riding?"
She opens the belly-turret, and looks inside.
"Hope it has air-conditioning.."
After climbing aboard through the belly-turret, she closes the hatch.

Lastly, you mount up and take your seat in the commander's seat, located on the left side of the turret. Then you report in as WARWOLF.

You're patched in on the Marauder's encrypted channel. The one that responds to you is the major himself.
#Glad to hear that warwolf. I've got something for you to do already. I need your unit to link up with a platoon of commandoes that claim to have found the hideout of a high-ranked hound officer. I have a heavy-VTOL here at the base, ready to carry you directly there. Prepare yourselves with some armory equipment if you wish. I have you covered. Keep me posted, and good luck#
The major leaves the channel, and is replaced with your new mission command.
#Welcome to the marauders warwolf. Transmitting the heavy-VTOL pilot's channel. Report any developments. Mission control out.#
Your screen lights up, and inform you of the recived channel.

Smaher:
You scrub the system, reboot, and reconfigure it from default.

Soon, the system is back under Uniware control. The still functioning sensors and cameras begin scanning the surrounding area anew.
You see on the screens that the battle at the approach has concluded, and the teams are moving over to the tower.
Using the cameras, you can see your squdleader among the teams, looking a bit roughed up. Still alive though.

The heavies seem to remain on the top level, watching the horizon.

Wolf:
James moves the walker out on the yard, and the H-VTOL comes in from above. It's not using cable to carry the walker, but instead lands on it, and grabs on. This makes it possible to move around without belts in the walker.
Within a minute you're airborn, and on the way south-eastwards.

While airborn, you turn your attention to your new engineer; Moore, mounting the turret on the bottom of the hull. The seat is minimal, which is good considering she's wearing heavy armor.
"I get that I'll carry out repairs in the field, but what do I do when there's nothing in need of repairs? Just point and shoot with this thing?"
She pulls the handle of the turret, and it turns slightly to the right, suprising Moore.

Lucas:
You toss your dismissed dogtags to the ground on the hut, and tell the hounds to get out. Unsuprisingly they don't understand english, but you manage to pass on the message with gestures, and the family scamble out of a hole in the back of the hut. They leave you with the corpse of your former CO.
You grab his shotgun, and check for any possible tracker on you. There's no physical tracker that you can find, and you're quite sure there's nothing inside you.
So unless you're willing to cut yourself open and double check, you could call yourself clean.

As you're about to leave, the radio of your dead CO comes to life.
#Sir, we're facing resistance here at the center! Orders?!#

You leave the hut, into the burning village. Around you are burning huts, and dead hounds. Most of them are charred, the others are shot. It's pretty quiet, if you don't take in the distant gunfire, so the village has most likely been cleaned soon.
There's gunfire maybe 100 meters away from you. By the sounds of it, both Uniware guns, and hound guns.
There's paths to both the center of the village, and out of the village into the jungle. Both paths are quiet and cleared.

The crowd seems a bit less enthusiastic.
"I can't give you guys the details, but the colonel needs us ready, and the tower operating! Dig in and get comfortable!"

The teams spread out across the yard, and some move out past the palisade to man the trenches.
The heavies from before start tossing out bodies from the tower, and your squadleader heads inside.

Lucas:
Since you probably won't be given any more ammo and equipment by Uniware, you decide to head back in to scrounge up what little your CO still have.
Pistol and shotgun ammo. You've now got plenty of both. You also swipe his radio and digital map.

Then it's off into the jungle. You head off the beaten path, and head east, away from the immediate Uniware precence.

#Sir?... Something's wrong, regroup, and-#

Your own radio comes alive.
#Private, regroup at the edge of the village.#
It's the corporal, filling in for the sergeant.

You're now in the middle of the jungle. The map says you're just south of the lake. There's a small stream leading there next to you.
There's also a an outpost just east marked as "Lost".

Lucas:
You drop you own radio on the ground.
#Private, where the helll are yo-#
And promptly stomp on it, smashing it.

Then it's off towards the lost outpost.
The jungle is unforgiving when you want to travel through it, although being on foot helps.

Through dense bushes, across one or two streams, under the high roof of trees. Soon you reach a good lookout over the outpost, on a hill next to a manmade clearing.

It consists of 6 prefabricated structures, tied together with pipelines and gravel roads. In the middle stands a more permanent concrete structure dug into the ground, seeminly some kind of storage.
The outpost is overgrown, and there are old signs of battle like bullet holes and craters. There are also the wreckages of 3 tread-born tanks, and a medium walker.

At first, the outpost seems empty and quiet. But as you look over the outpost, you note movement. A lone hound roams around the outpost, looking through the remains of the outpost. The hound seems perticularly interested in the downed walker, always returning to it to examine it more.
The hound doesn't seem armed, and is wearing casual human clothes. Could either be stolen clothes, traded of some smuggler, or even some kind of gift of kindness from some human.

The hound seem to pay no attention to his surroundings, focusing entirely on the search.

Father:
The sergeant tries, and tries again to make the soldier breathe again. She doesn't even notice you standing next to her.
After a few more tries, she sighs, and gets up on her feet, leaving the soldier dead.
She looks around. The sight of her downed men seems to dampen her spirit.
"What a disaster..."
She turns her head to you. You note that she's covered in blood, most likely not her own.
"We're the only ones left, aren't we?"
She unloads her gun, and looks at a lone bullet in her magazine. She then reloads, and turns once more to you.
"Did we atleast capture the commander?"

Smasher:
You note that you are indeed the only engineer here.

First you fix the broken sensors and cameras, clearing that out of the way. The fence, could not be fixed. It was replaced by a palisade of logs by the hounds, and even if it's a bit roughed up, works rather well.
Then you're tasked with fixing the AA-gun, which proves as simple as realigning the barrels. It was simple, and didn't take much time at all.

You squadleader comes up to you.
"Well done with restoring the OP to it's former glory, and giving us another weapon to use in case of attack. Now I have another task for you, so follow me"
The squadleader leads you to the yard, then around to the side of the tower, there he moves a bunch of bushes in the cliffside, revealing a large metal gate, enclosed by a concrete frame. Beside the gate is a smaller metal door, accompanied by a broken keypad.
"This is one of the reasons the colonel wanted this place back. It's some sort of storage."
He points at the broken keypad.
"All I know is that once the hounds were about to overrun this outpost, the men stationed here smashed the keypad, thus sealing the gate until fixed. I'm glad they haven't succeeded in fixing it themselves...
But now I need you to fix it, and restore the systems deep inside aswell. Take some soldiers with you.
You never know what Vita will throw at you next..."

He then leaves, and goes back into the tower.
You're in front of the previously concealed gate, to the side of the tower. It's the middle of night, and the moons are high.
The yard of the observation post has been turned into a camp, with tents and campfires. There are relaxing light infantry, patroling heavy infantry and a lone medic tending the wounded.

Wolf:
Leon pouts, crossing his arms in the gunner's seat.
"Hey! I'm the one in charge of blowing up buildings!"

You give Moore some instructions on how to use the belly-turret. It's as straight-forward as it gets, since she's only basicly manning a defensive machinegun. But she appreciaties the help and instructions nontheless, brining her mood up a bit.

Your radio beeps once for attention, then you hear mission control.
#Come in Warwolf.#

Lucas:
You put the shotgun on your back, along with your assault rifle, and approach the hound as non-threateningly as possible.

When you're a mere 10 meters away from him, he tears his attention from the scrap around him, and goes into an alert stance. He stares at you, possibly confused.
You ask the hound if he speaks english. He looks at you, and opens his mouth a little. He hesitates, but tries to speak.
"Yes. I can speak most english."
He speaks with a thick extra-terrestial accent, unsuprisingly.
Up close, you get a more detailed look of him. He's a hound, as you though. He's a little shorter than you, and seems relatively young. His fur is dark brown, and his ears are pointy triangles, much like a german sheperd back on earth. The clothes he wear are human made, but are quite well-maintained, if you look past the unavoidable mud of the jungle.
He holds his lower left arm as he waits for your response.

Smasher:
Uniware did promise exitement...

You attempt to fix the keypad, but alas, it's too broken. You have to simply bypass the keypad.
You tear it off, and tinker with the wires.
As you do, an unspecified squad of volunteers arrive. 3 lights, and a heavy.

You succeed in crossing the right wires, and the gate clicks.
It would seem that the emergency battery had enough juice to pull the lock, but the generator being out means you have to pull the gate open yourselves.

You and your volunteers pull until your arms cramp a bit, and finally the gate opens.
Behind the gate is a dark concrete hallway leading forwards, and downwards into darkness. There's and assembly of webs and even some hanging eggsacks of various small insects.
One of the lights express his concern.
"Damn it's dark down there..."
The heavy turns on his helmet-mounted flashlight.
"Could be worse..."

Luckily, you're also equiped with one of those. In fact, everyone in your temporary squad has them. Good thing they're standard-issue.

"No, I'm alone. And well... A friend of the town taught me. A human like you..."
He looks up, right at you, with some.
"You're not with the Uniware? But who are you with then?"

Smasher:
There's a collective shudder at the mention of spiders.

You ready your shotgun, turn on your headlight, and move into the dark tunnel, squad in tow.

The tunnel is made out of concrete, thus it's still in good condition. But it is covered in webs and alien nests. The tunnel is wide enough to drive 2 vehicles down at once, side-by-side.

At the bottom of the dark passage, you reach a junction going left and right. On the wall right in front of you are signs.
<---DEPOT
<---ENGINEERING¨
<---MACHINE STORAGE
<---GENERATOR
ARMS STORAGE--->
EQUIPMENT STORAGE--->
SYSTEM SERVERS--->

There's a sudden brief rapid-clicking echoing through the tunnel. Orgin unknown. Then it's back to being eerily quiet
"The fuck was that?"

Father:
The sergeant sighs, but seems intrigued by the mention of the downed sniper. She walks on over to the moaning bush, and reach in.
She then pulls out the wounded hound, looking less than pleased at his defeat, showing his teeth.
The sergeant gives him a firm punch in the head, and he goes out cold. She turns to walk out of the jungle, back to the road with the hound on her back.

Father:
While it's not the commander she wanted, she seems keen on getting it to talk.
You march tirelessly in the night, along the prefab road. The sergeant moves with no convern whatsoever, even if she's carrying an adult hound.

The guards at the Lumberyard gate recognize your squad, and seem disheartened at the loss. They offer to help your CO to treat her injuries, but she dismiss them, and move over to the base lockup.
You follow in tow.

The lockup is a rather minimalistic place, consisting of a concrete corridor, with cells on both sides. At the door sits a guard behind a desk. And at the end of the hall is a metal door, with bloodstains on it, and also on the floor below it.
"A room for one asshole sniper."
"Roger that ma'am."

The guard opens one of the cells, and the sergeant drops the hound's unconcious body on the cold concrete floor. She removes all items from him, except his torn clothes.
Te cell then close, and she turns to you.
"Listen, I need to report this personally at the HQ. You go get your flamer replaced, then get back here..."
She turns to walk, but then stops.
"In fact, take this."
She hands you a service ticket, then leaves.
The ticket could be used to upgrade your armor or weapon to something performing better.

Lucas:
The hound looks perplexed.
"I don't know what a-wol means, but I am happy that you did not kill anyone. I saw the fires in the distance, and got worried..."
He seems a little relived. If only a little.
"But what are you going to do now?"

Smasher:
Off to the left it is.

The tunnel leading left is still wide, meaning that you're definatively heading towards the depot and the generator. You note that there are lights on the tunnel sides, but since there's no power, they're little more than decorations.

You reach the depot. It's a larger 2-story hall, with a couple of rows of wheeled armored vehicles. There's a lot more room though, meaning this bunker wasn't that hard of a loss.
On the right side of the hall is a door labeled "ENGINEERING" and "GENERATOR". On the left side of the hall is a fenced off corner, with a fence-gate labeled "MACHINE STORAGE". The inside of the storage is dark even when shined upon, thanks to a thick layer of webs on the fence.

There's more clicking for a bit, then silence. It was a bit louder this time.

One of the lights jumps, and aims down deeper into the hall, startled.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!"
The lights of the other shine down to where he's aiming. There's nothing there, but the lights are too weak to reach the end of the hall. Mostly due to thick cobwebs.
"Calm down, it was probably a shadow..."

There's no way in hell Uniware's letting me back. I sorta killed my commanding officer..., But he woulda killed a family if I didn't kill him." Lucas stares in space for a moment before shaking his head and saying, "That's what I tell myself anyways, the family's fine. Thank god. Everyone else... wasn't so lucky... "

Lucas:
The hound looks a little overwhelmed by the information.
"Well, I'm sure they are happy with the ancestors now..."
Seems like it's not suprising news to him.
"But if you're not with the Uniware, that means you're not angry about me looking around here? Cause I've been yelled at before..."

Smasher:
You move through the side of the hall, and cautiously enter engineering.

The inside seems untouched, but still covered in dust. Seems like the door was sturdy (and airtight) enough to keep out any creatures looking for shelter.
It's an engineering station, with workbenches and tool racks.
At the end of the room is the generator. A fairly advanced fission generator (or a nuclear generator in layman's terms).
Since it was abandoned, it probably shut down before it could reach a meltdown. Restarting it should be simple.

Behind you, through the door you hear more cliking. This time it stays, and varies in pitch every now and then.
The heavy points his LMG at the door, looking pretty concerned.
The earlier light isn't amused;
"A SHADOW DOESN'T MAKE NOISES! ESPECIALLY THOSE KINDS!"

Lucas:
The hound seems relieved, and gets right back to looking through the scraps with plentiful speed and agility.
"I am trying to undestand human engineering..."
He reaches into a bush, and pulls out something tech-looking. He puts it in a backpack you didn't see when you surveyed the outpost, leaning on a wreckage.
"So I have been looking for just the right parts on a project of mine..."
He gets down on the ground in front of you, holding his backpack.
"You humans build such marvelous machines, and I want to learn!"
You can see enthusiasm in his eyes.

Father:
To replace thine flamer, thou must visit ye olde armorie.

Inside you find rows upon rows of guns of all kinds, but on the other side of rows of thick metal bars. There's a counter between you and the guns though, where an idle-looking quartermaster stands.
You proclaim your need for a flamer, and show the ticket.
The quartermaster turns around, and opens a locker. He then turns his head to you, and ask;
"So what did you want? A standard-issue flamer, or one of these chemical sprayers? That ticket allows me to give you either a chem sprayer, or a heavier set of armor."

A chem sprayer is as leathal as a flamer, and leaves puddles of acidic goo. It can't bee disabled that easily either, since the contents aren't flamable.

Lucas:
The hound looks at you, and think.
"Well, I'm going back to the village where I live. But I think those clothes would make people nervous."
He points at the perticularly obvious Uniware logo on your sleave.
"But if you could atleast cover it up, and promise to behave, you could follow me. Maybe I could talk to a friend of mine, who could help you."

Smasher:
The squad keeps eyes on the door leading into the now noisy depot, while you attempt to restart the generator.
You open the panel, give it a jolt from your PDA, and the system's back online.

The clicking gets louder.
You then reboot the system, and have the genrator begin to awake once more.
Once it's back up, the lights go on for a moment, and then immidiately go out again. The robotic voice of the compound system echoes through the tunnels.
#Meltdown aver¤&%¤, unable to #"%¤#&#%&%¤#%¤%# lockdo"¤#!#¤!#!¤"& hostil&%¤%&¤%&%¤#

After being abandoned for some time, it would seem that the coumpound's system has corrupted. It needs to be reinstalled.
You note that it's quiet again.
"Is it gone?..."

The depot is making no more noise. Your squad look on edge though.

Hmm....the Cleansing Flame works in mysterious ways, and a cleansing death by powerful acid would probably cleanse just as much as a cleansing death by glorious napalm. "I shall take the chem sprayer, my good purveyor of holy artifacts." Saul proclaims, handing the man the ticket with a smile.
Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Hounds of Vita)

Lucas:
You attempt to tear of the logo. You succeed, but the sleeve comes of with it. Seeming content, the hound leads you around one of the fabricated buildings.
There you find something new.
It's a rusty tank hull, but instead of treads there's 4 largers wheels. The turret's missing too, and the top of the tank has been covered up with a tent.
The hound hops up on the hull, and into the drivers seat. He holds out his hand to you, offering to help you up.
"Would you mind if I ask your name?"

Father:
"Holy artifact? Whatever, chem-sprayer it is..."
The quartermaster pulls out a weapon that looks almost like a regular flamer, but the muzzle has been improved, and the fuel tank has been replaced with a chemical tank, clearly marked with the biohazard sign on it.
He checks it, making sure it's in working order and filled. Then he walks up to the counter, and drops the heavy sprayer on it.
Lastly he rips the ticket in two.
"There you have it. Have fun."

Smasher:
You, along with a nervous squad, leave engineering. The depot is eerily quiet, and there's no movement.

Squad in tow, you move along the side of the depot, toawards the tunnel leading to the tunnel out, and the tunnel to the server storage.

But as you're halfway across the depot, the clicking's back, louder than ever.
"OH GOD, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!"
A light screams out, pointing his gun and flashlight towards the opposite end of the depot.
Emerging from the darkness, is a wave of creatures. You'd call them spiders, but they only have 6 legs. But they're insect-like, with an exoskeleton of chitin, several beady eyes, and a mouth looking like it was taken from a crab. And lastly, they have some pretty painful looking mandibles, and abdomes that seemingly could spin web.
They're the ones making noise too.

The squad begins to panic, and fire wildly across the depot, tearing appart the vehicles between you. You note that the insects are able to take several hits of rifle fire before going down.

Father:
You head on over back to the lockup expecting a bloodied hound.

You're right.
In the far end of the lockup, behind an open door, you see the hound tied to some chair, taking hit and hit from the sergeant.
You're able to walk right on up to the door without hearing her ask the hound a single question.

Even though you're right behind her, she's too busy beating the hound to notice you. The hound seems to have covered the floor with his bloodsplatter.
Seems like the sergeant's temporarily lost it, with immense rage.

Lucas:
The hound pulls you up, and show you a seat that's safe enough for the ride.
"Sorry if I seem too pushy, but I thought that it was human common to introduce eachother. In you're tongue, I am named Wisk."

((Shit forgot write it before, but it's daytime on Vita now.))

Father:
The sergeant stops, and turns to face you. She doesn't seem like the sergeant you met a day ago. The sergeant before you, whos face is covered in hound blood, has an angry, dried stare.
She let's go of the hound's collar, and wipes the blood of her face. She then returns her attention to you, looking a lot calmer.
"Right... Can't kill him yet..."
She looks at the hound's face, bloodied, and gasping for air.
"Got his name and rank. But when I probed for intel regarding the commander we were supposed to capture, he went on about my dead squad."
She tenses up again, and hits him hard on the side of his head with a right swing. He, and the chair he's tied to falls down on the floor, seemingly out of breath.

The sergeant turns, and begins to walk out of the interrogation room.
"I'm gonna kill him if I keep going, and he's not worth it.
See if you can get him to talk. Do whatever you want, and don't worry about killing him, since he's low-priority."

She leaves you with a bloody hound sniper on the floor.

Lucas:
The sun litteraly brings new life to the makeshift transport. Wisk seems to take a lot of pride in hearing you praising it.
"Thanks! I managed to find one of those tank hulls in the middle of the jungle, and I spent several daycycles to attach these wheels I found on a human vehicle!"
A daycycle on Vita is a lot longer than a day on earth, so maybe it was a month? But you recognize the wheels, being from a resource transporter.
"Well, we should get going. Hang on!"

The four-wheeled tank starts to rattle as the engine screams to life. And with the pulling of a bunch of levers, it's off into the jungle.
Now that Vita's star is in the sky, it makes the jungle seem a tad more inviting, with it's overwhelming green plants and colorful flowers and occasional animals.

It's not that long of a drive, maybe 5 minutes? But since the vehicle was quite fast, it may have gone a lot longer than one could suspect.
But soon you come across a pass into a cliffside. There's hound guards on either side of the tunnel but luckily, none of them seem to be dressed as the average hound insurgent.
One of the guards gestures the vehicle to halt, and thus Wisk brings it to stop next to them. They seem quite pleased as they look at Wisk, but once their eyes turn to you, they reach for their guns. Wisk shouts something in their own language, and gestures the guards to wait.
They stop, and talk to Wisk. You do not know what is said, but soon enough, you're let into the tunnel.
"As I said, they're suspicious of you, even though you've removed the symbol. I guess it's the uniform."

The tunnel is dark, but at the end there's a light. You exit the tunnel on the other side, and your eyes fight to adapt.
As your vision returns, you're greeted by a lush cave of sorts, lit by a hole at the top leading outside. Around you is the usual jungle, but also a lot of huts and even rusty prefab buildings. There are hound villagers moving around, minding their business, and ever so rarely, you spot a human or two among them.
Wisk parks the vehicle, and gets out.
"Welcome to Akue, Lucas! The friend I mentioned is over there!"
He points at a prefab building on the egde of the cavern, on top of a cliffside (if it can be called that in here).
"I can accompany you there if you'd like. But other than that, remember to keep those guns holstered!"

Smasher:
Letting them get a bit closer is risky, considering that there's little space to safely let them take, but you make do.
The wave of insects crawl towards you, and everyone does their best to take them down.

You fire your shotgun again and again, putting slugs and more slugs into them.
You manage to take down a total of maybe 14 before you realize that there's seemingly no end to them.

One of them gets to close, and manage to grab a light with it's mandibles. He bleeds, but he's alive as it drags him away, screaming loudly.
"OH GOD, HELP! NOOO!"
It spares no time to begin turning him into a cocoon, while he's still alive.
You're now down to 2 lights and one heavy.

You can barely hold them off, and it doesn't seem like they're going to stop anytime soon. The tunnel behind you seem empty luckily, but there's little time to spare before they reach you. Your team continues to fire wildly.

Title: Re: Grunt Tales: Reloaded (Hounds of Vita)

Smasher:
Faced with an overwhelming wave of alien insects, you and your squad back up into the tunnel, whilst firing unfocused at them.

You manage to keep pace enough to stay together, and alive at that.
Soon enough, you've backed up to the intersection again.
A quick glance reveals that the base has gone into lockdown. The entrance is sealed.
"WHY THE HELL IS THE DOOR SHUT?!!!"
The heavy wildly proclaims whilst firing into the approaching wave.

The tunnel leading towards the server storage is still clear.

As an engineer, you figure that you could not just purge the system of the base, but also purge the actual base by venting the toxic gas whilst secured somewhere. That or you could hope that the base is equiped with some armed (and still functional) drones.

You might be able to make a rush to the servers, but that might end up killing someone. Well, except you, being the one to run first.

Lucas:
You leave Wisk to scrounge through his backpack, eventually to withdraw into a garage on the side.
Then it's up the cliffside. The path is rough, even for such a primitive village. It's likely that this path is rarely used.

At the end of the path, lies the rusty prefab house. Looks like it's been roughly put together too, perhaps using poor tools?
Other than the rusty walls, and covered windows, there's a metal door atop a staircase. There's some kind of intercom there.

Oh, and the view of the hidden village is quite nice from here. You note that there are armed hounds patroling about, but there's only maybe 6 of them in total. And there's also a self-propeled AA-gun hidden of to the side, covered by some loose foilage.
The hole in the ceiling of the cavern is big enough to fly in a couple of gunships, one could wager.
If Uniware could find this place, that is.

Strange that you didn't notice before, but there's a smaller lake directly beneath the hole above, with fishing boats in it.

There's also a larger building at the far end of the cavern, on another cliffside(?). It's above the majority of the huts, so it's probably where the village chief is?

Saul nods as the sergeant turns and leaves, before bending down to right the Hound's chair, setting him back up in his original position. "Well now. I'd call you a possible convert, like I call everybody, but something just tells me we're really not gonna see eye to eye on certain political issues, my friend." He states, his monotone voice somehow still conveying sarcasm.

"So. One chance is all I'll give, right at the door. Save yourself a lot of pain, and give us the commander." He begins, leaning in towards the sniper and staring straight into his eyes. "Or, I promise, by the might of a god far mightier than yours, you will die screaming."

((Being a little slow on the updates. I blame the economy.))

Lucas:
A brief delay, then the intercom beeps on. The voice is quite scrambled by the intercom though, making it impossible to tell gender.
#Oh? Wisk sent you?#
There's a brief delay.
#Well, looking at you, I can see why you'd need to talk to me.#
You note a little camera above the intercom.
#I've been monitoring the channels. Come on in, we should talk face to face. Last door on the left.#

After another brief delay, there's a clunk, and the door slowly swings open.
Behind it is a rusty corridor with a few closed doors, and an open door on the far left. There's a faint glow there.

Father:
The hound looks at you with contempt for a moment, blood pouring from somewhere above his eyes.
Then proceeds to spit in your face. Luckily, your mask shields you.
"if you hadnt moved, i would have killed you! like i did to your friends..."
The hound says defiantly in broken english, with an equally broken and smug smile on his face.

Smasher:
Even as you annonce it, the rush for the servers leaves a light behind, probably because he didn't hear it over the gunfire.
He sceams as he's overrun, and an insect clips him in two using it's mandibles.

With his (unwilling) sacrifice, you and the last light and heavy reach the server room. The heavy proceeds to close the door, and push a locker in front of it.
"I don't know how long it'll hold, so get to work!"

The server storage has seen better days. The cabinets holding the servers are rusty, and some have collapsed.
The interface has a cracked screen, and the keyboard is lacking a few keys. You could still interface using your PDA (and accompaning cables).
It would seem the reason for this carnage would be that the room has suffered a partial cave-in.

Miraculously, the servers are still blinking, meaning that they're still funtional.

Your squad has decided to barricade the door, and give you as much time as possible.

In the middle of it all, in a comfy looking chair, sits a younger woman with glasses, and her long hair in a braid behind her.
She doesn't get up, but instead turns the chair to face you.
"Hi there. Former-private Lucas, I presume?"

"Need you? No, I'm certain it's the other way around now, isn't it?"
She puhes a button, and the wall opens to reveal a bright window. Behind it you can see down on the entire hidden cavern.
"You've decided to not only desert the planet's most powerful faction, but also kill one of their best veterans as you do! With the obvious way out gone, and the Uniware on your ass, you've found your way here..."
She gets up, walks up to you, and holds out her hand.

"Well, there's just no pleasing some people, is there? Now then, friend, I'm real sorry about this, truly, I am." Saul gets right back into his speech, unfazed by the Hound's unpleasantness. Hoisting his chem thrower, he levels it towards the Hound's left lower leg. "You're gonna feel a little sting, but don't worry, that's just the acid." With that, he pulls the trigger, holding it for a good two seconds and probably making the sniper's day a whole lot worse.

Father:
Seems like the hound thought you were bluffing.
Until you pulled the trigger.

In a display that would make less gruesome people puke, you apply acid to the hound's lower leg. At point-blank range. When he's tied to a chair.
He screams in pain an terror as the acid "cleanly" removes the leg slowly.
First you see the fur quickly dissappear, then the flesh begins to turn to fumes, revealing the bone.

You release the trigger, and the hound almost pass out. But you give him a firm punch to keep him awake.

His lower left leg is now nothing but bone, dripping acid. There's also blood coming down from the rest of his leg. He'll bleed out eventually if nothing's done.
There's a bloody puddle of acid on the floor, moving towards a drain in the middle of the room.
The hound is terrified. Terrified of you.
He breathes wildly as he tries to fight the pain.

Lucas:
Elina shrugs
"I have things for you to do, yes. But I'm not going to force it on you. You've proved to be somewhat trustworthy since you killed old McDonough, so I'm willing to contact someone that can get you off this planet."
She walks on back to the chair, and sits down.
"I'm sure they could take you to any planet in the sector, if you have somewhere to go. If not, maybe they could drop you off at one of the UEF colonies?"

You find the ventilation controls. But it doesn't seem like you could vent anything toxic into the air. Nothing's connected. Unless you'd be willing to take a stroll to the ventilation chambers (through the insect horde) and add something toxic, you'd have to find something else.

There's also a number of unspecified drones somewhere in the depot. There's no information on what kind of drones they are, or what they're carrying. All you know is that there's 23 of them, waiting for input.

Lucas:
"You do know what we do right? There's not going to be any deskwork, only fieldwork."
She picks up a (suspectedly) stolen Uniware Assault Rifle, and shows it to you.
"And with fieldwork, I mean the dangerous kind."

"Ah. Alright then. Well, soldier, you've done your duty. Much obliged." Saul says, giving the crippled Hound a curt smile. "Now, well, I think we've but one last thing to do. I, Father Saul of the Cathedral of the Cleansing Flame, do proclaim that you are worthy of purity, in all forms, physical and spiritual. Make your peace with whomever, and prepare thyself for the astral journey to the Great Flame, roiling at the center of the cosmos."

Regardless of whatever else the Hound has to say, after a few seconds, the barrel of Saul's chem thrower rises up, pointing, generally, between the Hound's muzzle and chest. His smile never wavering, his eyes fixed firmly on the Hound's, Saul pulls the trigger.

"Amen."

Lucas:
((Roughly 5 times longer, I'd say))
"Arming the natives? We haven't provided arms for anyone except a few select villages, this one included. We have no idea who's been arming the separatists."
She picks up a headset, and puts it on. Then she types in something on the nearest screen using some kind of universal keyboard.
"T? It's E. Guess who I've had the pleasure of getting a visit from... What? No. It's That Drough guy... Yeah, the one that killed that mean old fuck...
Listen, he's even willing to help us out with things..."
She gives you a smile.
"Yeah, he's not even demanding anything in return. Says he would love to preserve the life of this planet, even if it would kill him...
So anyway, should I send him over?... Oh?... Yeah I understand... I'll do that... Later."

She turns to face you, still smiling.
"You're hired."

Father:
Amen

The hound attempts to scream, but alas, he's a bit too winded.
Soon enough, the stream of acid burns a hole straight through him, making the stream burn the chair appart, and spilling all over the floor.
The janitors ain't going to have a fun time...

Seems like the sergeant's back too. Or was she standing there the whole time? Regardless, she seems unfazed of the sniper-turned puddle.
"I assume you got something out of him?"

Saul turns on his heel, a big grin plastered across his face as he salutes his sergeant. "Commander headed west with a shipment, ma'am. Towards the water, the sniper said." He states, dropping his salute and hoisting his chem thrower. "Do we have reinforcements to head back out with?"

Lucas:
"T had some work for you, agent. But he said it wasn't safe to move right now. Uniware's on the move, and we don't know why."
She get's up.
"Come on, we'll get the transporter ready for use in the meantime."

You (automaticly) follow her out of the prefab housing. Thus you find yourself on the edge of the clif overlooking the hidden village.
"Alright, I keep the transporter just below the-"
Suddenly, there's and explosion from somewhere around the entrance. Before you know it, Uniware VTOL's decend into the cavern, carrying troops. They're joined by a gunship, menacingly painted like a shark.

"What the hell?! How did Uniware find us?!"
Elina runs back in.

You see how the VTOLs land around the cavern, letting off squads that spare no time shooting at the local villagers, who flee screaming.

The gunship seems to be carrying a loudspeaker.
#WE KNOW YOU'RE HERE DROUGH! YOU'RE A DEAD MAN!#
It begins to scan the distant village with a spotlight. The cliff you're on seems to be a bit concealed to it.

After a couple of minutes, Elina returns, wearing a combat vest, along with a stuffed backpack. In her hands is the assault rifle.
"I have no idea how they found us, but I'm pretty sure you're not a snitch. Only pretty sure though... Anyway, I'm ready for these occasions, and I made a few calls. Did I miss anything?"

Smasher:
Well you can't tell if they have any weapons at all from here. There's nothing else you can do but order them to attack in this case.
And order them you do. There's a confirmation, so now it's a matter of time.

The door begins to buckle enough for the insects to wedge their mandibles into the crack.
Your squad fires wildly.
"JESUS! THEY'RE ALMOST THROUGH!"

Father:
Sergeant Rebecca seems a bit downtrodden.
"Well... no. I haven't even recieved any reinforcements to my squad. It's just you and me, and since there's some high-priority operation going on, we can't expect any direct help."
She takes a glance at the pile of hound.
"But I've been granted permission to carry out a recon mission with what I have, and with what I find on the way..."
She looks you sternly in the eyes (well, as sternly as possible with your mask in the way).
"We will find that damn commander, make her pay, then pour salt in their wounds by hijacking that shipment. Are we clear private?"

Smasher:
You you in, with shotgun and drone.
Firing at the crack that's getting wider and wider, you kill one insect over another.
But soon, the crack's wide enough to allow them to squeese through.

The first 5 in are promptly killed, but the sixth takes your heavy down using it's mandibles.

You're backed into a corner here, with your last squadmate. The insects are getting through the door, one by one.
At this rate, you'll only survive for another minute or two.
"THERE'S JUST NO END TO THEM!!!"

There's no sign of those drones yet, and to make things worse, it seems like you're running out of ammo. Maybe just 8 shells left in the shotgun, and no spare ammo left.
The last light is also running dry. Last mag.

Lucas:
"JUST shooting at folks? Sheesh. Listen, the transport we could take out of here was broken, so I gave it to Wisk to fix. I haven't gotten it back yet, but I hope that it's ready. So we need to get down to him in his garage!"
Elina points at the garage close to the exit tunnel (from which is pouring smoke out of), where the makeshift vehicle that brought you here is parked.

There's a few more VTOL's coming in, dropping of more Uniware grunts all over the cavern. The gunship is still moving around, searching with it's spotlight.
Even though you didn't see many armed hounds, it would seem that the uniware troops are facing resistance. There's distant gunshots, most from the village on the other side of the cavern.

"Since you're not carrying a backpack the size of a cow, you take the lead. It's going to be hard, but we ought to stay low as long as possible. I don' think they'll hesitate to drop in more grunts on top of us if someone radioes in."

Father:
You and the sergeant leaves the lockup as the guard just caught a wiff of the melted hound. He pukes on the floor.

Outside, you find a convoy of resource transports waiting. The transports (looking like modernized earth mining dump trucks, in both appearance and size), are each armed with a single turret on the top of the cabin. The turrets are armed with a single 20mm automatic cannon.

"We can hitch a ride half-way on this resource convoy. We'll have to work though, and keep them as safe as we can manage."
She climbs the ladder of one of the middle haul truck, up to the platform outside the driver's cabin.
"You mount the turret. I'm too high-ranked for such dirty work!" she shouts jokingly

Saul bats his hand towards the sergeant playfully, laughing as he mounts up on the truck and takes a position on the turret. "Hmph. How barbaric. ((Damn what wilson?))

Lucas:
You decend the cliff, Elina in tow. You keep yourselves on the side of the path, in the foilage.
About halfway down to the garage, Elina quietly tells you to stop.

There's a squad of grunts coming up from the path leading to the garage. They look armed and ready as they cautiously move along the path.
You've got a brief moment before they spot you.

Father:
You mount up, and the sergeant takes up a position below you, along the railing.

Soon enough, the convoy's away. Heading west.

The road you travel along is made from prefabricated slabs of concrete, making the journey quite bump-free, even with the truck's superioir suspension.
After about a mile, the convoy slows down. The sergeant speaks to the driver under you, in the cabin.

"Seems like there might be some trouble ahead, so be ready!"

Smasher:
You shoot and shoot, doing your outmost to keep them at bay.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven and eight...
Thus the shells are out.
You switch to your sidearm, which seems like a peashooter once put up against these things.

When things seems to be lost, there's a buzzing coming from beyond the horde. There's some screeching from the bugs, then they begin to fall back.
In a moment, you're left alone with your last (shaking) squadmember, and a pile of dead bugs.

There's some screehing and buzzing outside. Sounds of a fight even.

Lucas:
Alas, before you manage to aim down towards the unaware grunts (which I now realize that I could have phrased better), Elina uses the brief moment before detection to pull you into the foilage on the side of the path.

"I you want to kill them, you better wait til we got the drop on them. We don't want them to report in to that gunship, do we?"

Father:
You remain on alert as the convoy makes it way slowly along a narrow path inbetween some cliffs.
The perfect spot for an ambush.

The convoy crawls around an old wrecked truck.

There's some movement in the bushes on your right. Nothing visible though...

Smasher:
Done and done, you turn off the lockdown, and take a look around for that LMG once held by a heavy.

While you take a look around, the last rifleman makes a run for the exit. There's no screams, so it would seem that she made it out ok.
There's still buzzing though.

You find the LMG under one of the (quite heavy) bugs. A fine weapon, but it seems like it took some damage under the bug. The barrel's all bent, and the reciver's smashed.
A mere grunt would have no other option but to discard it as trash, but being an engineer you realize that it could be fixed with some effort.
And maybe some daylight would help, since it's still quite dark down here. Seems like the lights need fixing too...

Lucas:
You remain (peering) in the foilage. The mercs seem to be basic grunts, like you once were. They move carefully, but not enough to spot you.
As they pass, you hear them quietly talk about somthing.
"..but what I'm getting at is, why are we attacking this shithole when we're just about to launch the big offensive?"
"Well, the sergeant first class REALLY wanted this traitor dead. I'm sure it helped that this village's been under our noses the entire time..."
"Good thing that moron lead us straight to it!"
*general laughter*

They've passed, and the final stretch to the garage is seemingly clear.

Smasher:
You haul the (not so light) light machine gun towards the exit. Outside the sever storage you see your savior. It's a medium loader drone, with jury-rigged buzzsaws on it's grippers. It's idling, covered in bug-blood.

The dusk realy shines as you leave the bunker, leaving you blined for a moment.
Outside you meet the CO.
At first he seems happy, but as he spots your gore-drenched body emerge from the bunker, it shifts to concern. Altough it's probably not concern for you, but the storage.
"What happened private?"

Father:
A quiet alert goes out over the convoy as you turn the turret to face the right flank.

It would seem that you've caught the ambush before it happened, and the hounds waste no time starting it.

The right flank comes out of the bushes. It's about a dozen hounds with assault rifles, riding some kind of large bugs. They ride along beside the convoy, at roughly the same speed.

The left flank reveals itself aswell, where you find about 10 rusty buggies armed with several hounds with guns. They too are on the top of the cliffs, with the same speed as the convoy.

Both sides waste no time opening up on the convoy, which responds with their 30mm turrets, and loose crewmen with rifles out on the railings.
Among the crewmen, are your sergeant.

"They'll man anything they can find to fight with. If you're wounded, go see the medic, and be ready to move out soon. I need to organize things..."

He leaves for the tower.

Lucas:
Paying no more mind to the grunts, you and Elina scurry down the path.

Eventually, you reach the yard outside the garage and the tunnel leading out of the cavern. You take cover by some bushes. From there you get a good view of the yard.

There's smoke coming in from the exit tunnel, and Wisk's vehicle seems to have taken a rocket or shell. Pieces are scattered across the yard.
It would seem that the Uniware grunts are bringing hounds here for "questioning. There's a row of them on their knees, with a Uniware officer behind them, pointing his gun at the head of the most outward hound. As 2 grunts come from the path leading from the village while dragging another hound, the officer executes a hound, and moves to the next.
Elina seems to be close to bursting with rage.

As the other 2 grunts leave, there's only the officer, and a grunt watching the hounds from the front, with his back to you.
Between you and them is a yard.

You see the gunship, still searching the village with it's spotlight.

Elina breathes a few times, in an attempt to calm down.
"Wisk might be hiding in his garage..."

Smasher:
No armory here unless you're willing to go back into the bunker.
But you walk on over to the closest thing, being a pile of ammo crates.

You fill up on shells, pistol rounds, and refill your drone for good measure.
As for the LMG, you manage to repair the biggest issues, but there's the small things like an uncalibrated aim, which you couldn't even fix without some more experience with LMG's. You've been trained with shotguns, after all.

Then there's the issue of weight. Carrying the shotgun and the LMG is going to make you slow as hell, and hevily burdened at that.
You can carry both though if you want to. Might even be able to reduce the size of the shotgun if you're fortunate to find tools in the pile.

Lucas:
((Ano sneaky brekki, iv danke.))
Using the convienient cover of the blown up-vehicle, you manage to get closer to the row of hounds, and their executioner.
Close enough to hear them.

The officer has his sidearm aimed at the next hound's head.
"Where is the human soldier?"
"I not know!"
"I'll ask you again, where is the human soldier?"
"please, I not know!"
The officer them shoots the hound, and he falls lifeless down on the ground with an exit wound in his forehead. The other hounds whimper, as the officer moves to the next hound.

You're about 6 meters away from the grunt with his back to you, and 8 meters away from the row of hounds.
Arguably, close enough to run up to the grunt, but not enough time to run to the row.

Father:
With no further ado, you open up on the right flank.
The single-barreled 30mm isn't that fast to shoot, but once it hits one of the mounted hounds, he's almost gibbed.
You fire manages to bring down 2 of them in total, all while the convoy is speeding along the passage.

Seems like a few of the buggies on the left has made it down from the cliff, and is now speeding beside some trucks. Alas, that's not something you can deal with in the turret. The depression isn't low enough to aim at them.

The right flank of 10 cavalerists are firing wildly at the convoy, taking out a couple of crewmembers. One falls over the railing, and gets run over by one of the huge wheels.
One bullet nearly gets you, as it bounces of the turret's frontal armor.

As things seem to have reached the peak of action, a squadron of old rotor-propelled helicopters fly overhead. They bear the flag of the hound separatists.
They're quite large too, as they seem like flying tanks almost. They've got turrets aswell, which they rain down bullets from above.

Smasher:
Leaving the LMG at the crates, you walk of to find somewhere to get yourself cleaned up. Luckily, this jungle is quite lush for a reason. There's a small stream coming from the mountains above, passing by a remote corner of the outpost.

You get cleaned up, and find yourself alone by the stream.

The outpost resides on a cliff overlooking the jungle. From here, you can see quite a lot. Hell, you can see the lumberyard in the distance.
There's several roads running through the jungle in different directions, cutting through the dense jungle. The local fauna constantly makes noise, and the wind rustles the treetops.
The sun is about to dissapear into the horizon, bathing the jungle in a more orange light. There's also some stormclouds gathering to the south.

You think you spot something gleam in the trees closest to you. Almost like a reflection of sorts.

Well, this isn't looking good... Saul thinks to himself, too busy shooting to really voice his words. He doubted anyone would hear him over the sounds of explosions anyways.

Which is when an idea hits him square in the face. Letting go of the turret and slinging his chemical thrower from off his back, Saul fires a stream of chemicals in front of the Hound cavalry. If this is a weapon designed for suppression of groups of enemies, it's probably a whole lot of acid, acid which the beetle-like organisms will be stepping in, should they keep going.
