Title: Pokemon discussion (was pokemon uranium)
Post by: saltmummy626 on August 16, 2016, 04:53:31 pm
I don't much like pokemon a whole lot myself, but I downloaded it on a whim before the inevitable Nintendo take down. Looks like I was correct in assuming Nintendo would do just that.
If you would like it, I can upload the installer to dropbox or something and you can have it to try out yourself. It's version 1.0, the game is packed with a patcher as the developers have stated that they will continue pushing out updates. I recommend you use that patcher first thing. If the patcher fails, it's because of a possible error in the one of it's files and I can give a replacement if it's needed.

It's been in the works for the last 9 years. One of it's primary devs is 22 now and she has been working on the game the entire 9 years.

So, is it like a remake of the old gameboy games or something?

It's a completely original game. It's got 100 user made pokemon and 50 originals. new pokemon type as well as taking place in a new region.

Heres a kotaku article about gameplay and details about it's takedown.

Huh. I might give it a go for nostalgia sake. I played the fuck out of blue when I was a kid, but never bothered with the other ones because it kinda lost it's charm when I got older.

Alright, I'm uploading it to dropbox. It's got a bunch of features from the newer games. I guess it's an RPG maker game though. Plays just like one of the normal pokemon games though. Some of the custom ones look like the kind of thing you would see in a real pokemon game, while others are obvious fanimon.

Tried it out, you don't get to pick a starter. You get to take an "aptitude test" to see which one you get. It's pretty easy to manipulate the test so you get the element of starter you want. Just pay attention to the colors of the answers and you'll figure it out. Also, don't mash your way through the test or you'll end up answering with all the red answers and get the fire pokemon.

one of the starters is a grass/steel cat that is immune to critical hits... and almost everything else.

Oh godear dammit. That's the one I wanted. Instead I got a fukin' fire type... also the bird types are surprisingly good.

You've tried uranium too Wilson? Do you have that problem where you can't type anything into the any of the text inputs?

This is tempting, but I'm more tempted to try Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal. :V

Thanks salty!

The download fails to get the patchlist, but the game itself seems to start fine.

I was afraid of that, there's a problem with the games default "neoncube" file.
here, I used this guide to fix it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemonuranium/comments/4xpg4g/guide_fix_your_pok%C3%A9mon_uranium_patcher/?st=iryhbla1&sh=19ca7fe0
Does the game delete what you type as you type it when it asks for your name?

Nope. I've had a "button stick" kinda thing happen where it constantly moves right though.

This sounds delightfully buggy. Any reason why this couldn't have been a ROM hack instead? :V

Is there a map button someplace I'm missing?

It's very well done for an RPG maker game, but is certainly still an RPG maker game.

I was excited for this but didn't get a chance to grab it before the takedown, don't have access to my computer for the next 24 hours though. You can transfer files from one Dropbox to another Dropbox can't you?

map's on the pokepod thinger.

Anyone want to fight my pathetic team of horribly offensively named pokemon? I think we can do that now.

Also, nuzlock mode is surprisingly tough. More so because the restrictions on catching shit.

Yeah, maps on the pokepod, like wilson says.

I don't know. Maybe? hm.

They didn't want to make a rom hack. I imagine using RPG maker was an easier endeavor. I've played pokemon shiny gold before, it has it's own problems. It's good, but it still crashes and has bugs.

Well, one apathetic grown man and one volley ball pretending to be a grown man.

It was a little anti-climactic. I injured most of his pokemon, he knocked out one of mine, and just when it was getting all tense we got disconnected.

I nuzlocked Diamond, Ruby, and Black. Was hard as hell and I only finished the diamond one. Had a lot offun taking an otter, a grass turtle, a bee, a BADASS FUCKING BIRD (Staraptor is the real MVP), a dog, and a fish dragon into the elite 4. I will download this later today for nostalgias sake.

I never played black and white. I do own a bunch of pokemon games, but the only one I ever finished was crystal. Crystal was my favorite. Gold or silver? Fuck you. Crystal version. It had the animated sprites. When they remade gold and silver though, I got heart gold and all my friends bought soul silver. Not because of any kind of favoritism, but because gold was the one I had on the GBC. My sister had silver version, I had gold. All my friends just shat on my reasoning and would always shout "LUGIA IS BEST BIRD!!"

Funny, Pokemon Black was the last pokemon game I've emulated. It was...eh. The plot was derpier than Diamond/Pearl, but the pokemon selection was better typewise (apparently I would've enjoyed Platinum more).

I have platinum, but I don't think I've ever even been to the first gym.

Well, guess what. In that gen it's fucking rock again. You know, in case the derpy monkey starter didn't already deter you from picking fire.

A friend bought me Black. It was fucking awful, absolutely all of it. 90% of the few pokèmon there were in it absolutely fucking sucked.
Pokèmon Emerald for life.

Butbutbut smugleaf! D:

Admittedly, the grass starter still had shitty type coverage like most grass-type.

The first three gens had the most badass fire starters. Okay, maybe fox thing but I haven't tried that gen.

Wonder if we should split this Pokemon convo into it's own area. Keep this one focused on Pokemon Uranium, and other similar Pokemon themed projects if there is any.

Either way is fine, but if we split the conversation, I'm willing to bet both threads will die. Just keep it all here and I'll change the name of the OP, thus changing the threads name.

I liked a lot of the ghost pokemon (no surprise there.)

Still have emerald in my DS, the pokèmon I have on there mean a lot to me, had a friend with a Swampert I'd always beat with my Blaziken, good times.

Need to get the games required to bridge my pokèmon up from emerald to the more recent ones.

There is only one true answer: Vietnamese Crystal. o3o
