Got ideas but not very fleshed out, want to chat about existing content, or just want to shoot the breeze with other players and the GMs about UMEU and content there in? This is the place. Only rule is to try and keep it at least keep semi-related to the UMEU.
-
First off, Utterly Mad Expanded Universe (or UMEU) is a pretty lame name. It's really not catchy.

being catchy and working for what we currently need are two inherently different needs at the moment.
Also: Found out the scanner I was going to use is not where we thought it was and we have no idea where it is, so I won't be getting anything out for Johan Arms for a while unfortunately.

The name is sort of a WIP title, until a few RPs get started up and there's more of a feel for how the universe is going to play out coming up with a good name won't be as easy
Also to avoid a problem we had last time with threads sort of getting abandoned or forgotten about by GMs I'm considering sticking stuff that doesn't look like it's been reviewed or approved for over a week, just to help avoid anything getting forgotten about, not including rejected ideas.

*cough* Frigus *coughcough*
But yeah that's why the Approval Request thread exists so people who feel that the stuff they make isn't getting attention can at least get informed that the GMs aren't approving and hopefully why.
-
That's probably a better idea actually
-
...*pokes UMEU* hey, come on and get working...
We kind of need more content at the moment, but nothing's getting approved. I'm sitting here waiting to do anything until I get told what I need to do to get the Venator(and by extension Frigus and Hortek) approved because if that doesn't work I'm going to take some concepts and try again, but we really need to get the approval thing moving guys.
-
I forgot about this.
I've got some ideas, i will start trickling them in, hopefully with less mech-fetishism this time.
-
I've been a little bit too busy and hungover lately to get much done, but I should be a bit less busy in a day or two.
-
Okay, maybe I should make another thread for GMs to let people know if there are going to be periods where they won't be approving/running things to help keep people informed. At the very least that should cut back on people feeling like they're being left in the dark.
-
...*pokes the dying body of UMEU with a stick*
jokes aside sorry for the double post but to put this bluntly, we need to start approving things and seeing as how I've either approved or left feed back on most of the things(I need to read over the Vesuvian syndicate first) I'm stuck waiting for other people to read through and either provide feed back on what needs changing/what referenced material I or others need to make or to approve things. If we want this to succeed we're going to need to put in what will honestly be quite a bit of initial effort to get this off the ground.
apologies if this sounds aggressive(I'm honestly too tired to tell since I've been staying up way to late recently) but I dropped working on a couple things to focus on this so I'm a wee bit frustrated.
-
I'm trying to free up some time to properly go through stuff and write but it's a busy time of year.
We really do need to be posting more often though

yeah, apologies are in order I do believe. I was tired (staying up to 1 or 2 in the morning several days in a row can do that to you) and forgot how much time and stress this time of year takes up. I'll be putting up a topic to let people know about GM schedules and when they won't be posting much later so that should cut down on some frustration later down the line.
-
Just a suggestion, but why not change it so that anyone can vote to approve? I get why the GM system exists, but there's more GMs present than non-GMs, so it's a little redundant right now. Might move stuff quicker.
-
I've been dead for a whole lot of reasons, and I apologize for that, heh.
And I'ma agree with Apa there. It'd make a lotta sense, I'm sure all of us can judge whether or not something's mildly bullshit effectively enough.
-
The concept of having GMs is so when we get people coming in they don't go behind our backs to each other and go 'hey if you approve my thing I will approve yours'. At this juncture it does seem a wee bit pointless but there are reasons to have the system.
that being said this was all Six's idea so I'll leave any decisions on that up to him.
-
I certainly get the concept, and if there were 20 of us, that would make sense. As you say, it's pointless at the moment though. There's six of us that have contributed anything thus far (me, Lork, you, Forrest, Six, and AJ). Of that number, four are GMs, leaving two players. Right now, the system is useless and inefficient and would appear to be a big part of what killed this the first time around.
Leave it in place, sure, but I think we should just ignore it for now unless you guys manage to pull more people in.
-
okay, for right now if a thread in pending approval is a month old it's getting stickied until a GM leaves feedback or approves so we can hopefully get things moving.
-
first batch of topics have been stickied and are awaiting feed back or approval from GMs.
-
triple post since the last two were me doing my job.
To anyone expecting more content that expands upon groups like the Norenfal or the Talen or Mechanids it's not going to happen for a while. Hard to be motivated when no one is approving anything.
-
Well, I'll be that guy and suggest again that we let anyone approve things for the moment. I know people are busy, so it might speed things up.
-
Alrighty, I'm formally going to request to be made a temporary GM. I want to run an RP, but it depends on other stuff being approved (mostly Vulnus'). I get other people are busy at the moment, and don't mean this as a critisism towards that, but there's a significant bottleneck going on. I'm not overly busy, mostly because I have a ton of free time at work - I'm lucky like that and think I could contribute by using that time to help build this up. It's a good idea and I don't want to see it die.
Judgement-wise, I think it's pretty obvious I'm a stickler for realism. While that can certainly get to the point where it isn't fun, not approving something is not the same as rejecting it, so it shouldn't be a worry. Of the 16 accepted things currently around, I've made 11 of them. I think I have a good idea of balance. I'm also currently the only active non-GM, which makes the system seem sort of silly given the ratio there.
I don't really want to be a GM because I'm sometimes the loudest voice and don't want to risk looking like I'm trying to take this thing over. As of such, I'd just request GM-ship until an RP or two is running - just about enough of my stuff is accepted to let me do so, and I think Vulnus had one coming soon as well once his stuff gets moving, so it shouldn't be long. I'd also request the ability to move threads around within the UMEU boards, because that would be handy.
-
I'm alright with this.
Also, I'm often too busy to sit down and read through the new stuff thoroughly but I'll make a point of it today.
-
Gonna assume we're waiting for Six to give the final go-ahead (I'm pretty sure Forrest and Vulnus agreed in IRC last night, but can correct me if they have an issue with this), but I've marked stuff that I'd consider approved in anticipation that he won't care either.
-
Hey, post characters! I'm gonna try and run a thing but I need people. Gonna get this RP ball rolling
-
What's the rough flavour of the RP? I'm fairly sure the char I have up already won't work great outside of a limited scope.
-
Basics of it are: A group has financed a squad to deal with the Black Hand and the characters involved have been hired to that squad.
-
Looking at our subforums, I'd suggest we should either pin corporations or create another subform for product/other object threads. They're kinda buried in there under the pile of Rastal guns and shit. I think either fix would work well.
Same deal, races are going to be overtaken by general lore pretty quick from the looks of it. I'd suggest a seperate subforum would work better than pinning here.
-
Thoughts on the above?
-
I'll pin companies and yeah I'd like a seperate section for lore but I can't create them.
-
Well, that was unexpected but I'll take it. Gonna move stuff throughout the day. Already approved things will not be left with a "moved" thread because that's just as messy.
Approved stuff will be, for a few days.
All Hail Discordia.
EDIT: New board for general lore shit is up. Also pinned corps that actually sell stuff. Those that don't will be left there, but not pinned.
-
Made a products subdivision as all the CDI shit made it hard to see things in the corp section. Products will be moved there AFTER they make it into the company's main thread.
Also renamed systems and planets to locations, since about half of them are neither systems nor planets.
Finally, looking for thoughts on how to handle non-corp groups, such as religions or terrorists or whatever. Figuring they should just get plunked into corps as well, but thought I'd get some opinions.
-
Most likely no update today. I'll go ahead and update, fuck whatever I'm evidently supposed to do for the rest of the night.
-

Little late on this since I've been gone a while but yeah, I'd been considering making you a GM anyway
-
Just as a heads up, NoCam has temporary approval powers too. You, Lork, and Forrest were all busy, so it was kinda just Vulnus and I, and we needed a third to approve anything.
I also made a few boards and stuff, since Lork decided to admin me rather than doing so. Lazy bastard.
Think that sums up most of what happened. Welcome back.
-
Yeah, you've done a pretty good job, resisted the temptation for shenanigans so far.
Don't worry though, when April 1st comes 'round you wont be able to resist the shenanigans any more.
The Shenaniganing will occur
-
Hey, would anyone be interested in an RP run through the on forum IRC chat?
