Title: Battle Calculator (Mechanic)
Post by: ApatheticExcuse on December 28, 2016, 01:05:05 pm
So, as I've mentioned to some people, I've been doing most of my RP over at nationstates. Little did I realize how utterly seriously those people take playing government. Got myself elected to a few positions, and then realized I really don't have the desire to lord over a couple hundred people or the time to do it properly. So I'm probably gonna ditch that and run a short and simple RP here very shortly. Sorry NS.

Anyway, I found this thing while I was over there:

It could work very well for large scale combats, and seems to function well enough. Thought I'd submit it for approval.

I'll run a few tests, but I think having the big battles decided at least partially outside RP would be a good thing.

Kinda my thinking. Obviously, it would be just an optional tool for someone who wants it.

I think a list of 'approved' mechanics would be a good idea, obviously you'd still be able to use your own but they'd serve as frameworks.

This seems like a pretty good idea.

if unit and morale numbers are the same it freezes, just noting that for people who are looking it over

Yeah, it's a documented bug. Moral should be fine at the same levels, but force size being equal will lock it up. I think most of what we do wouldn't require all that many variables anyway, just some to represent hard stats, then some to represent how well the player wrote out their strategy and thought it through.
