Title: [SET SAIL!] Sunken Harbors
Post by: Super Level Furaotic on March 07, 2015, 01:35:26 am
[WELCOME TO VINBRIGHT]
The boat was cradled by the water between the docks in port. Slowly the waves lapped against the ship spitting out the smells of salt and the tinge of sulfur. The gas lights from Vinbright illuminated all of the crew's face as they slowly reached an empty spot between massive and tiny boats packed with either artillery, people, or precious cargo. Jolie flicked off the Spotlight up front and slowed the boat to a crawl until it was right next to the dock. Everyone began to tie the ship together over the sound of engines spitting and the drunken laughs and hollers from down the docks and into the streets.
Jolie complacently moved away from the steering wheel and up the ladder. Once next to the cannon, she looked to all of the crew below taking things off the deck.
"Listen up. I want you all to take the cargo to our client, Monsieur Devour. His shop is on the..." Jolie positioned herself to see and put out both arms. Then dropped the other one and turned back around, pointing to her right. "East. It's a bit grungy ova' there, but you wimpy lot can handle it." She smiled playfully to the crew and winked at her First Mate, Thomas. "His shop is around there somewhere on Bixon Street. I can't remember the name, it's something french though so look for a squiggly line over a word or something." Jolie shrugged. "An after that, I want the Thomas to lead you all to get another job. Go talk to some stores if you're feeling like bringing some cargo to transport, or seek the taverns for some bounties." Jolie had unholstered her sword, long and dyed red, at some point in her conversation. She leaned up against the bars around the Canon and poked at the underside of her hat right in front of her face. "If you come into trouble, you know what to do." Jolie smiled again, like a puppeteer picking up the corners of her mouth.

(Time to disrespect females and acquire currency)
"Damn it" Donovan said to himself as he walked off. "I'm a doctor, not a cargo monkey." He grabbed the smallest of the various packages, and yells "Hey Blackjack, I didn't get a chance to talk to ya this morning, want to carry these over with me?" he motioned to the larger boxes as he said this.

Blackjack stood on the dock with a crate in her hand, waiting for the captain to stop droning on. She already knew exactly what they were going to do once they got to town. She kept her face blank, keeping herself from scowling as she shifted the box around in her grip. As soon as the captain finished, she started towards Bixon street with a glance at Donovan. "You can stitch a man back together, I'm sure you can carry a bigger box, Doc," she said with a smirk before focusing back ahead of her.

"Something about checking out the taverns after? Well, Cap, you've piqued my interest." Zar states, laughing a little under his breath as he lifts one of the heavier boxes in the air. Blackjack and the Doc were already on their way, so he made an effort to catch up with the two. "Alright, alright! Let's get these damn boxes to the French one, I'm ready for the waters, I am!" He laughs again, a little louder.

It's another day down in the Sunken Harbors.
The boxes that are to be towed to Monsieur Devour are heavy and not at all easily handled. The green, fungi-wood boxes are hard to get any grip on, but as sailors of the Black Sea, they'll have to make do with it. As the crew loaded out the many boxes, packing them onto small delivery carts, their shadows played on the backdrop of the city. The green hues of the glowing civilization this far beneath the Earth beamed hope and light into one's soul. At first sight, anyways. Living in a town like this could prove to be just as daunting and melancholy as the seas themselves. At the very peak of the city line, there was a rather taller, wider building that opened up like a concave semi-circle. This was the Federation Building.
The Federation Building was infamous, yet famous. Infamous for being hard to get into, but famous for the riches that were promised to any sea-farers that could handle their brutal tasks. Each crew member could think of at least one story about the place. They'd send sailors out to the darkest depths to chart what was still unknown, or they'd send ships as spies to gain information on the rivaling gangs and pirates of the Black Sea. Of course, there was no way the crew of Delphino Plaza would be seeing the inside of that building anytime soon. Not with their non-existent reputation.

"The medical textbooks werent THAT heavy" Donovan replied, continuing to carry the box he had in his hands. "besides, couldnt we just get some street urchins to carry them for us?" Donovan looks around, sees a surprising lack of urchins in the surrounding area. "Well, if we can find one anyway."

[[Crap didn't know we already started this.]]
Thomas was already behind the group, holding the moldy and sea fungus ridden boxes. Trying his best to both keep a firm grip on the box, and to not touch any of the icky moss that plagued the outer-shell of the crate. He dropped the final crate into one of many carts they'd be pushing, grabbing his chest and taking a few deep breaths; 'I'm really too old for this', he thought as he straightened up and started pushing one of the carts. He knew the Captain doesn't want him doing the manual labor, but at the same time he wants to feel as useful as he did back in his prime; so him and Jolie currently have a mutual agreement on this, but one more sprained muscle or busted up hip, and he'll be pushed into shuffling papers and keeping count on the stock... as well as being the Captain's main adviser.
He looked at the sea spray encrusted windows, faint shadows flickering in and out of existence behind the thick green glass that once appeared yellow. It reminded him of his old home when he was a lad, the times he'd come from school to find that it'd be more Fish Broth stew mixed with the finest selection of trout and bottom feeding fish; with their bones sticking out of the textured chunks of meat that'd float in the stew like islands. He saw the store up ahead, coming into view slowly.
He began to feel his "sweet tooth" acting up the closer he was.

[[Hella long roadtrip through the deepest of souths has left me without internet for a while.]]
Allan dusts his hands, shaking off a fine spray of fungiwood spores. He coughs a little when he inhales the cloud, and through the fit he mutters "E-uh-guh, ah can't stand luggin' these damn boxes around." He gets behind another one of the cargo carts, and starts pulling it onto the ship. "Gonna cough a lung up, haulin' carga' like this."
As he does so, he looks out in the direction the captain pointed. The blackness of the sea looks back at him. He quiets down, and pulls the cart in silence.

The streets were mostly empty in the eastern side of Vinbright. Though night and day are hard to differentiate, clocks were still functional this far down. The time was 12:45 PM, or as a hanging clock overhead told the crew, and so it came as no surprise that no one was out and about in the eastern side. It was dangerous to be out in the streets all alone, safety at night was guaranteed in Vinbright Plaza or around that immediate area. Cops patrolled over there, here, they didn't bother.
The crew walked deeper into the east, building got taller and closer together, what would normally appear as alleys and side streets became the roads which the five people tread. The area smelled of rotting wood and dust as the claustrophobic space became even tighter, and the wagon hard to maneuver around. The wagon bumped on the rocky side streets, making a droning thump with each step taking. It was like a drum beating to war as the gang walked the lonesome streets. Occasionally a window light high above would flash on and the silhouette of a curious human would peek out at the crew. Other times, lights would go out and shudders would close.
At the corner of a four way intersection, there was a large, wooden post with a few arrows pointing different directions.
< LEFT TO JERARD
> RIGHT TO BIXON
^ STRAIGHT TO MONICAR
V DOWN TO VENNUS
As the crew stopped for a quick rest, a light hanging over a building flickered with a buzz, and there was a sound of scuffling and movement somewhere. It sounded to the left and down the street.

"Eh? Probably just some street rat. If you two wanna go look, I'll go too, but it's a waste 'o time." Zar scoffs, gesturing over in the general direction of the noise. He'd grown up around here, not much that could scare him anymore.

Allan brings his cart to a stop and looks down the alley. He then dusts off his shirt even more fungiwood dust, and says "I wudn't. We're sailors, not snoopers. Bes' gettin' to deliverin' these boxes than runnin' off to some fuck-off alley at this time o' day."

Blackjack glanced towards the alley, then Thomas, then cart. "Be right back," she said, stepping away from the cart and into the alley with purpose, rolling up her sleeves. If something was going on back here, she'd definitely be the one to stop it, she thought, cracking her knuckles..

Zar's hand lightly clasped to the handle of his knife, ready to unsheathe it. Blackjack's attitude about this was getting him worried, as were the memories of all the muggings Zar himself had carried out around here. "Well Doc, thanks for volunteering, eh?" He jeered, no small amount of sarcasm in his voice, as he went to trail behind Blackjack and make sure nothing was afoot.

"Plebian" Donovan said, sitting down with a huff on the cart. "well, at least I wont get stabbed in an alley by some horrible monster."

Blackjack moved away from the cart, confidence radiated from her military jacket, and the shadow of the bulging helmet on her shoulder followed under the dim lighting. The crew watched, some moved and shuffled around, others set their box down to the sound of Blackjack's footsteps on the damp, cobblestone street. The light overhead flickered and buzzed.
SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK SOMETHING IS HAPPENING AND THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED: BLACKJACK
As Blackjack moved down the street alone, the shuffling of something, grew louder until it became evident that the noise was sourcing from a small alley. Around the corner, no lights seemed to seep into the crevice. There was a sound of flapping as Blackjack peered into the alley.
The smell was overwhelming and putrid.
Something large, around the size of three boxes like the ones that were to be carried, was tucked away in the alley. The faint outline was hovered over something dead, and furry. The sound of ripping flesh sputtered and spat in the air, followed by the sound of chewing and chunks of meat hitting the filthy ground. Blackjack picked out the details of a snout, and the thin skin of wings with large tendons attached to the body.
Blackjack, slightly stunned, could not confirm what this creature was. A glance of the eyes turned around to Blackjack. They stared.

((Zar followed, btw :v))
Blackjack took a step back, watching the bird-thing. There were bounties for monsters or something, maybe? The fucking Black Sea was filled with them, even if she didn't get paid it was one less vermin in the streets. She'd play this carefully, she was rash but she wasn't a damned idiot. She slowly backed up, motioning for Zar to do the same before putting her hand on the dagger on her hip and keeping her other hand free to grab the pistol holstered on her chest as soon as it made the first move... Assuming it did, of course.

Zar froze. Shit. He'd been expecting some street brats, rusty razors and wrapped hands, ready to try and pinch some drunken sailor and loot his drinking money. Well, unless street brats grew wings and got a helluva lot more ugly, then this was a damned Black Sea monster. Obviously a small one, probably not very dangerous, but he didn't exactly have experience in this area, he'd maybe seen three in his life. Crouching lower and nodding to Blackjack, Zar keeps his hand on his knife, ready to lash it out at the slightest movement from the beast.

The monster in the alley way hissed and crawled backwards. The sound of claws scratched against the ground as the beast moved up and over what it was feeding on. A dog, a large one too. It's abdominal region ripped open by this thing. The red eyes stared back at the two as it suddenly rushed forward and leaped into the air, catching itself into flight and soaring right over their heads.

Zar accidentally sliced the air and caught Blackjack right upside the head. A long gash ripped up the left side of Blackjack's head! Blackjack immediately lost hold of her gun and clamped her hands to her bleeding face. The gun skitters along the ground as Blackjack cries out in agony and kneels to the ground. Blood oozing between her fingers, and the wound burning like hot fire.

The flying beast over head screeched. Now in the light, is revealed to be a large Harbor Bat! The biggest the two have ever seen!

Blackjack screams out, clutching her hand to her face as she gains a fresh cut on her face, another that'll add to the collection of scars she's accrued in her travels. "PICK UP THE BLOODY FUCKIN' GUN YOU BLEEDIN' IDIOT," she yelled. One fucking thing, one fucking mistake. How the hell did people manage to fuck up in such spectacular ways? She stumbled back and glared at Zar with wounded face, blood streaming down from the wound Zar had made.

Well. Shit, that happened. Zar lost his cool for a bit, to say the least, and now there was a large, bleeding gash in Blackjack's face, courtesy of his blade. He doubted he'd be hearing the end of this later, but there were bigger things to worry about. Stooping down and leaping for it, Zar grabs the pistol, attempting to follow the bat's movements with the weapon and fire at the creature.

Thomas was going to follow them into the alley, but from what he could make out in the silhouettes that danced around in the alley. He was sure glad he didn't, instead he took this opportunity to head the damned beast off. Running down a different alley and unhooking either a torch or lantern to frighten the beast away.

Allan's composure is lost for a second when he hears the sounds coming from the alley. "Bloody fookin' Mother Mary of flippin' 'ell!" he draws his brass knife and runs down there. He couldn't tell if it was coming from either his friend Zar or... Blackjack. Regardless, it warranted an investigation.

Zar aimed the gun with shaky hands trying to get a shot off on the dexterous bat.
SKILL CHECK {Difficulty Hard}{ROLLED: 7}{FAILED}
There's a loud shot, the ring of ricochet, and the thick smell of gunpowder. A lantern overhead exploded, bringing down a hail of sparks and removing most of the already faint light. The bat screeched as it flew to the side, and see the group of people coming down the street, it nosed dive in the other direction and flew up with immense speed back into the darkness of the cavern.
COMBAT HAS ENDED
SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS SOMETHING IS HAPPENING TO: THOMAS
Thomas ducked into an alley, unbeknownst to the other crew as the scrambled to the scene. In the alley was a lantern, though much higher than Thomas could reach, and though standing on something could've been an option, the rotted, moldy crates and run down trash bins made the trouble seem more than it was worth.
There was a bang, something crashing, and a screech.
Poking his head back out, he saw that the beast had left, and Zar was surrounded by a mist of smoke. The rest of the crew, Allan and Donovan, just in time to see the main action go down. The miss, the smoke, and the flying away creature. Just before it left, both could make it out to be a large Harbor Bat, but more importantly, they could see Blackjack, crumpled on the ground with a small pool of blood gathering around her.
The remaining lights flashed and buzzed.

His voice was both worried and scared as he fully righted himself, running over next to her. "Gods damn it, you alright there?" Zar asked, stooping down and offering a hand. Part of him said she might punch him, using his vulnerable position and all, the other part didn't really care.

Donovan, deciding not to waste anymore time, began to rip out some extra rags from his coat. Specifically, cone of his inside pockets.
Donovan moved away Blackjacks hand. The wound wasn't too deep, but it was bleeding enough to be worried about it. He apply the bandage followed by a whole lot of pressure that burned and felt like tearing to Blackjack. The bleeding softens, but it has a long way to go before it's stopped.

Thomas quickly ran down the alleyway towards the group, with him being unnoticed by the group he'd call out, "What in the Abyss's name was that thing!?" As the group walked away from the scene, leaving the blood and broken lamp behind but keeping the ill feelings, lights and blinds opened slightly. The sound of gunfight was nothing new this late at night, and people watched the crew walk away not because they worried about their condition, but because they wanted to know if any of them died and left loot behind.
The crew returned to the cart which hadn't moved since they left. Back to the same intersection they were at before, Bixon street was to the right. The street looked like it opened up some, and it was much more lit than the place they had just come from. The crew began the journey through the rest of the city. It would definitely take some time, perhaps they should talk a ton about things before getting there.

{~Pomme De Le Mer~}
The crew chatted and shot-the-shit until finally, it became obvious they found what they were looking for. There were squiggly lines, but some of the crew could infer that 'pomme' probably meant pomegranate in French, or something like that. Who cared? Job was to drop the stuff off and get a new job.
It was small, quaint shop on the corner of intersecting streets. A single lamp, this one sustaining a bright light, light up the sidewalk and terrace guarded by a short and stubby gate. It was only about two stories high, the second story had a small window with a light shining through, though there were no lights on in the little cafe. Around the edges of windows peering into the dark shop were flowers and vines from the Black Sea. Though they were not very pleasant to look at. A plant had to to focus on survival rather than beauty. Still remarkable that they've lasted this long around here. On the side of the building, there is a wide opening and dip down. The drop off spot, no doubt.

Blackjack just listened to the other crew talk silently, starting at the street ahead. At Donovan's mention of apples, she just mutters "Pomegranate," and continues. She looks down at the drop off point and pulls a bullet from a pouch on her belt, loading it into her revolver. "Let's get the money and go get the next bloody job."

Allan stops his cart in front of the shop, coughing lightly from the seemingly infinite amount of fungiwood dust coming off the boxes. He cranes his neck, looking at the sign and the dilapidated building. "Eh. S' a lih'l weird of a language. The crew worked tirelessly unloading all of the crates until the last one slid down the chute and you were finally rid of those spore ridden boxes. They made for great wood though, and would most like be recycled, as most things in the Sunken Harbors.
The only thing left to do was receive payment... From who exactly? Perhaps someone living above the small coffee shop.

The door held no resistance, and it seemed to have been unlocked. The inside of the shop is dark. Faint outlines of furniture are illuminated by a small light in the back of a shop down a hallway. You see what you think is a staircase leading up. Perhaps to the owner's room. There appears to be more doors down the small hallways.

Blackjack moved around the iron gate to the back of the cafe. If the streets were dim, it was nearly pitch black here except for the small rays of light coming from surrounding sources. The alley way, like all the others around here, was narrow and full of trash. Above were some railings leading to other buildings, though their purpose wasn't clear in that moment.
SOMETHING IS HAPPENING SOMETHING IS HAPPENING SOMETHING IS HAPPENING SOMETHING IS HAPPENING SOMETHING IS HAPPENING SOMETHING IS HAPPENING SOMETHING IS HAPPENING
Blackjack, looking around carefully, heard something pop above. Looking up, she saw the window in the back was unlatched and slowly opening.
Something emerged from the window, and to Blackjack it looked like a formless, bulging thing that she couldn't quite make out in the dark. From the window, it moved on the edges of the building to a railing leading to the next building. Suddenly, Blackjack caught the distinct image of a human form, carrying something large and droopy. At least twenty feat in the air, someone was carrying something away from the cafe.
The Crew walked into the building, slowly and being careful not to step on something or trip over themselves. The beacon was the hallway, which was lit up and with every step the path became clearer.
There was a quick pop, and then silence as the group reached the bottom of the stairs.
The stairs lead upward to another door. Next to them were two other doors, one that said "Employees only!" and a sign signalling a bathroom.

Allan knocks on the door, but it pushes inward with the first tap of his knuckles. Inside, he finds an utterly destroyed room. The light that was casting through the window from the front of the shop is crashed on the floor among papers and broken glass. The bulb lodged out, though still shining through a connecting wire revealing sharp and eerie shadows of a torn up bed, ripped apart dresser, crumbling bookshelf and smashed tables. The room is in shambles, and the occupant is missing. The ground is littered with clothing and other junks, watching your step would be most wise.

Allan's face contorts into something between fear and worry. "Foooookiiinn' helll..." he says, breathlessly. He distractedly motions with his hand for the others to come look at this, and then begins slowly picking his way across the destroyed room. He looks around for any signs of life, blood, or even a body. For a second, he thinks that he ought to keep an eye out for some money, but the thought is quickly pushed to the side.

The floors creaked under Thomas and the crew's combined weight, its wooden-wailing grated on Thomas's shooken nerves. He wasn't the type of man that did well in abandoned buildings, saw a man fall straight through some water damaged floors once; the sight was horrid, amongst the shards of disgusting wooden planks, laid a broken and battered man with sharp bones jutting from his steely sailor skin. That was also the last time Thomas was ever on the exploration team, took the rest of the crew hours to coerce Thomas down from his perch.
Whether the fear was from that disgusting sensation of "freedom" that comes with falling, or the fact that he'd end up widowing his wife in one step. He didn't like places where he'd have to 'watch his step'.
With a heavy feeling like a cannon ball sitting in his gut, he took a deep breath and slowly proceeded towards the wrecked dressers, hoping to find some clues as to what happened to the previous owners.

Plenty of papers lie across the ground among broken objects, and both diligent parties are able to scrutinize the crucial areas of interest. One being the desk, the other being the dresser that has been ripped apart. As Allan looked around, there wasn't bloodstains but clearly the room screamed signs of trouble and a dire fight. There were slash marks along the edges of walls, and the desk which was leaning to the side threatening to fall over, looked like someone brought down a large blade right into the center.
On the desk, papers hanged off the crisp corners. To Allan, he couldn't make much of it, but it looked like record keeping and various transactions papers. One, had a note clipped to it.

The dresser looked like it had been thoroughly picked clean, but there must've been for some reason, and Thomas was curious as to why it had been. Being the First Mate, he had to know how to search things, like the crews belongings without them knowing. It was obvious this person had been looking for something. Drawers were ripped out of place, clothing pilled elsewhere, pockets out turned and mantles were broken.
One drawer had everything ripped out of it. Thomas felt the bottom of it and could feel the board push down and rise back up. It was a fake bottom. He pulled out the edges and revealed a small box, encrusted with pearl and enchanted with the insignia of a Crab. The box felt heavy.

Fortunately for the quick thinking Blackjack, a ladder is back around the corner for roofers to fix the constantly breaking roofs. Not that they cared about that problem out in the East Side of Vinbright, but it was the sentiment that counted, and now, it really counted. Blackjack threw herself up the ladder, blood pumping, she could feel her bandage getting wet. The black silhouette had finally crossed the tight bridge, and with remarkable elegance and grace, he was leaping over boxes and stubby chimneys. Illuminated by some of the windows rising up and lights poking through, she could see distinguishable features now.

Knowing what these fools would do if they were to ever find the box (most likely not returning it to the Captain) he grabbed a bundle of clothes. Wrapped it around the beautifully sea-decorated box, and made his way back to the ship. "I'm taking these clothes back to the ship, might make for good fuel for the more colder days out at sea." Shouting up the stairwell, he opened the door up and started his journey to report back to the Captain with the box he found.

----------------------------------- {TIME WARPS, VISION FADES, THE SMELL OF THE CITY DISSIPATES, THE SOUND OF GUNSHOTS CHURN, AND THERE IS A LUMP IN EVERYONE'S STOMACH}-------------------------------
Jolie Vanblough looked out over the peek of the deck and over the crew. Brave, strong, and all the stranger. The long barrel of her revolver rested over the banister of the ship and proudly she spoke, "It's a pleasure to set sail with such faces. Determined and enthused. As you know, death will surely meet us out here as it has met many others. While we will meet with death, we're not going to go over to his house for tea. We will become the richest sailors acclaimed for our valor and prowess. Aboard the Blough, as long as this ship stands, we will conquer. Now, everyone to your positions and prepare for launch. The first mate and I will discuss the first place to go." Then, Jolie walks away from the banister's edge and into the Captain's quarters in the aft of the ship. (http://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/thesaurus-category/american/parts-of-boats-and-ships)
The Blough is a medium sized ship with enough horse power to haul the crew around without any delay. While's it's not fitted for the colder regions of the Sunken Sea, the moderate areas prove no issue.
On the bow of the ship is a medium sized gunner station strong enough to take down the creatures of the deep and a pirate ship if need be.
Amidships there is a boom holding up a sail, although it's hardly used unless fuel runs out and a wind from above happens to be blowing.
Close to the bow there is the bridge, and from within the bridge is a hatch leading down into the bilge where the quarters for the crew remain and the bay is also down here in another hatch.
On starboard is a harpoon gun with some extra harpoons safely attached to the side ready to be loaded in.

A lone flame flickers in his cabin, filling the air with the smell of combusted smoke and the faint smell of burning wax as he lit the candle on the far corner of his desk. He then took the match and lit his tobacco filled pipe, taking a deep breath of the smooth flavor and blowing out all the wispy smoke on his desk; it flowing and curling like an ocean's tide dissipating at shore. On his desk were maps, ledgers, and books about places he's been and places he hand't been too. The Captain had been smacking his gums at the crew for the past couple of hours now, introducing the crew, telling them what fine young men and women they are, yadda yadda; chances are these kids'll be dead by the end of the week.
With the muffled shouting of his Captain ceasing and the faint rapping on his door he knew it was time to pick a place to go. "Aye' Cap'n ye be needin' me?", his boots tromping his way into the lavish quarters, maps and notes under his arm. As he waits for a responded he begins sucking on his pipe (smacking his lips in the process), and blows smoke rings into the low-hanging ceiling of the cabin.

The ancient one twitches. he thinks "i hate when i do that" and slaps himself with his mask he then grabs a mysterious scroll he grabs a bottle from his bag something green and gold and takes a swig. he walks to the captains quarters and raps loudly. he yells "captain can i come in i have a little something i've been working on" the door is opened and he walks inside seeing the first mate who eyes the shape of his body suspiciously and shivers. The ancient places the scroll on the table and unrolls it revealing it to be a map with only a circle of visible space around the harbour. He says "you may not believe me but i created it in my lab it writes itself and requires no cartographer it will mark down land, monsters, important events that happen anything you want". The captain looks disbelieving and surprised at the ancient one. He twitches slaps himself and leaves. The ancient one goes down to the crew quarters commandeers a bed and sets up his inscribing, scientific and alchemical equipment up. he places the correspondence book next to the guide of red science gets into bed and falls asleep.

The Captain's door bursts open, the first mate having enough of the young crew's indecency turns to chew out the fool you just barged in unannounced to see the weird kid bust into the Cabin, spew some garbbled nonsense about some laboratory or something, hit himself then fling out of the cabin with such force that the slamming door causes the nearby painting to fall. "Hey-a Capn' I be only knowin' you since last night when we shared a pint... but I don't tink' employing ta' crazies be best for crew morale... I'm just going to be puttin' me stuff down on the table. I'll fetch some rum from me cabin." With a hurried dash, as if the darkened hallways would snatch him into their inky abyss if he stayed still or broke stride for too long. He grabbed a dusty and sea barnacle covered bottle (at the base anyways) that sloshed around with the strong, sweet smelling "pirate nectar" inside. "Back Capn', don't be mindin' the barnacles they be on tere' for show or what is it dem' wigs say? Aesthetics?" He lets out a hearty chuckle as he pops the cork off the rum with his crooked teeth, taking a hearty swig and placing on the table with the rest of his junk.

Allan is standing at the bow of the ship, next to the railing that runs along the edge. He's got his hands on his hips, and his posture is straight up and even. He's still awfully short, however. His eyes scan the murky black waters, looking for nothing in particular. He'd heard the rousing speech the captain had given him, although he didn't really listen. He had a lot on his mind, like he normally did before going out on any voyage that meant crossing the sea.
He sighs, and rubs his uneven beard with a calloused hand. "Ugly wa'ers out there." he murmurs to himself. "Jus' not nat'rl." The boat's deck creaks underneath him in response. His hand drops from his chin and dangles at his side, and he turns away from the bow to return to the engine room to perform some last, few safety checks. He hoped it would put his mind at ease, maybe he'd feel like things would be okay soon enough. He hoped, at least.

Jolie didn't get much chance to think before the man he hired was already out of the room after spouting something about labs, this and that. Jolie locked the door and wandered in her own thoughts as her First Mate talked about something. Visually flustered, she sat down in her cushioned chair. The First Mate was talking an awful lot about barnacles, Jolie chimed in but on a different subject.
"You know, Matey, we've been doing this sailing treasure hunting thing for some time but...." She pauses with a sigh and sinks into her chair. "Let's face it, my speeches blough. I'm so embarrassed every time. You should've seen them looking at me! I bet I sounded like a fool." Jolie slumped over and dug her cheeks into her hands with the gun holstered.

"Eh? Oh dem' speeches, you make the best damned speeches on all the black seas. Why if I were a younger lad, I'd be revving for adventure and full of that zeal that you swabbies are always so full of; that'd I'd be!", he takes a seat right across from the Captain, dumping some of the expended tobacco into a small stone tray. "Besides you probably haven't had anything to drink yet, you know what they be saying about a pirate who ain't filled their belly full o' dat sweet pirate fuel!" He excitedly says passing the bottle to her side of the table and pulling out his journal and maps. "Take a swig o' dat Capn' and then lets plan our next voyage. You might be still blue after all that swag we got last time turned out to all be fools gold and illusions," he pauses for a moment and grins a toothy crooked grin, "I heard that the shaman that did tat' to us is going to be in some freak show, we could track him down..."

Jolie smiled, and thought she didn't want to outright admit it, her First Mate really knew how to pick her back up again. "You've got a way with words your self!" She takes a swig and slams it back onto the table. "I agree. The first order of business should be finding that shaman. But where do we start?"

Thomas had let out a hearty seaman's laugh as he took a long taste of his pipe before knocking more ash out of it, "Well last I heard, the magical using bastard be hidin' out in Pourtstout, that wig town full o' dem landlubbers and other "fantastical" sh1te." He paused as he looked through his old journal, "Aye. I've been dere' before, noting' but booze, loose women, gambling, and shows last Is' been membern' it; used to be sweet on some dancer there, her Pa ran teh' shows, carnivals, and what a've ya." Taking another moment he leaned back in his chair to blow more smoke rings towards the ceiling, before resting the pipe back in his mouth again. "I saved him many tides ago, he'd probably more ten' happy to 'elp use find that bilgerat that been making fools of us!"

((What is the crew quarters? Is it where the cabins are situated or is it basically a room with bunks? Also sorry for not posting.)) Irving looks around, "I'm going to put my stuff away..." he says in his monotone. He walks down to the crew quarters and heads to his bed, he puts his 'Tool' Bag near his bed and apron on the bed. He sits on his bed and begins to sharpen his blades, a slight grin is on his face. He lets a chuckle out, he tests the sharpness with his bare hand after he takes off his gloves he tests the sharpness with his bare finger. He looks at the orb of blood on his finger. He rubs it away and puts the newly sharpened blade back into the bag. He heads up to the captain, "Is there anything needed of me, Captain?" Irving asks.

The ancient one wakes up to someone climbing the stairs. He gets off his bunk twitches slaps himself and flings himself to the upper deck. He hears "so whats happening here" from a man he believes to be a surgeon. The ancient one walks up behind him taps him on the shoulder twitches and slaps himself. he says "whats happening here is a great adventure into the unknown i'm the navigator but im also a man of science like you my bunk is the one with the scientific equipment everywhere i would like to say hello and due to the fact that you will probably die soon goodbye but if you dont thats great we can be friends" twitches slaps himself and runs off to find the engineer. he says " HELLO ALLEN im the navigator im also good with wrench if you want an extra pair of hands just ask".

Allan sighed again. He was looking at the ship's engine, laying under one of the long transmission casings. His hand was deep inside one of the tubes, and pulling it out he held a thin rod half-coated in lubricant. "G'nna need ta refill the oil next time we get t' port." he says. He wipes the rod off on his pants and replaces the cap to the tube. Just as he was about to slide out, the door to the engine room bursts open, and in the doorway stood the hooded figure of a nameless stranger. Just as the door swings open, Allan jerks up and hits his head against the casing. "Gah! Dam!" he swears. The stranger blurts some words out- something about wrenches- but Allan didn't hear over the ringing in his head.
He pushes himself out from under the piping, and sits up. Rubbing his head, he asks the man "The 'ell d'ya want?" His brow furrowed, he continues, "I'm tryna' work 'ere, y'kno."

"Pourtstout it is. It's the best to start, anyways. Perhaps we could do a bit of gambling while were there." Jolie stands up from her chair with new found enthusiasm and confidence, though it wasn't like her crew would ever see here lacking that. The door from her cabin swung open and Jolie appeared on the ledge.
"Crew! Set the engines, we're heading east to Pourtstout. On the double! I want to be there in the next hour." Jolie pointed with the long barrel of her revolver. "Stop standing around! Get a move on!"

The ancient one jumped hearing jolies voice and ran to get his course setting tools he went to the cabin grabbed his map compass quill and ink and drew a course complete with each compass bearing and the exact number of feet in between each. He then jumped down and ran to the engine to help allan get it running at a crescendo of heat and smog

Allan stands up, with a perplexed expression as he watches the stranger zip out of the engine room. Just as the door slides shut, he hears the captain's voice filter down from above. "Aye, cap'n." he says quietly, and strolls over to the other side of the room. He steps towards the controls, an arcane construction of bells, whistles, gauges, levers, buttons, and brass, all set into the side of the main engine body. He starts pumping one lever with his left hand while flicking a few switches with the other. Just as he was about to throw the throttle back, the stranger bursts in, and both he and the engine lurch.
"Crimeny, lad, you're runnin' 'round fas'er than a hare!" he says. He looks him over and then says, "Lad, why don' ya 'elp me 'ere and go make sure th' boiler tempurachur ain't goin' over two hun'red, eh? The valves are o'er there." He points to another set of controls on the other side of the room.

The ancient one follows donovan all the way down in fury he yells "you call ME an abomination YOUR the fake surgeon YOUR idiot who forgot his pants YOU ARE THE LACK WITTED SPAWN OF A **** A GOAT AND A DOG". The ancient one bursts into the crew quarters grabs one of his throwing knives and pins the sleeve of donovan's shirt to the wall he walks up to him plucks the knife out of the wall presses it to his throat and says "NEVER CALL ME THAT AGAIN" before withdrawing the knife and going to the top deck.

The ancient one runs to the valves and watches them with practiced ease occasionally twitching and slapping himself he is writing with a strange sharpened metal stick in a book with pages made of burnished copper he snaps the book shut and the engines roar even louder pushing the ship faster he goes back to watching the valves

The first mate taps the last of his spent tobacco out in the hallways as he followed his Captain to the deck, gently placing the pipe into his shirt pocket he climbed to the top of the stairs and went out to the balcony where the Captain was already shouting orders gun in hand. He took up a place beside his Captain, arms behind his back, looking over the crew; before quickly hopping down to the deck via a ladder placed up against the balconies railing. "PUT YER' BACKS INTO TO ET' LADS!", he shouted over the mechanical of noise of the machines.

Allan returns to his work, throwing the throttle to full and opening the valves to the boiler and turbines. The engine roars in response, or maybe it was in response to whatever the stranger was doing on the other side of the engine, but Allan wasn't paying attention to him. The engine room is filled with the giddy sounds of moving forward. "Oh, arn't you feelin' frisky today?" Allan says to the engine, having taken notice of its sudden burst of energy.

The reflection of the dim lights to the black, deep, and continually unnerving ocean sparked a deep interest and a deep fear. Looking into the water out of curiosity was an interesting experience. There was always the wonder of 'what's down there?', and as you thought that, there was always a good chance something unknown, undiscovered was looking right back at you.
Jolie walked down from the banister and into the bridge where she controlled the ship for some time before they passed rocky waters and into a safer stretch of sea. From there she perused the edges of the ship watching the water whisky by, and she'd drop in to see how everyone was holding up. Busy as always, and very good for business. Jolie stood proudly on the bow of the ship looking onward. The bright lights to her back, her shadow spread out onto the sea.
Her eyes picked up the unsettled water ahead. Bubbling water, followed by a few short wakes.
"We need a gunner!" Jolie yelled loudly over the sound of washing water and the cracking down on engines. "Engineers, pick it up we've got a new obstacle to get around! Where's that gunner!?" Jolie ran back to the bridge and right to the wheel. "First Mate, you're wanted!"

Sam for that was his name when he heard there was a problem and that the engine needed to go faster he emphatically wrote a line in his book. The engine roared and started going much much faster than before he then ran as fast as he could to the crew quarters and grabbed his knives and a stone shard he had been working on and even though he hadn't been called ran to the front deck and asked "whats the problem captain"

Allan hears the call of the captain, and throws the throttle back to full. "Full steam a'ead!" he shouts. The engine suddenly starts to chug and rumble faster than he'd ever seen it before, and steam sprays through a pipe fitting near the ceiling. "Woh ther'!" he shouts, and pushes the throttle back. "Dam' thing's runnin' so fast, it'll tear itself apart..." he mutters to himself. He watches the stranger, who he still didn't know the name of, dash from his station and out of the room. "Bloody- Gagh..." he runs over to the now unoccupied station and adjusts a few valves, and then runs back over to his. He keeps hopping from station to station every minute or so, keeping the engine going as fast as he felt was safe.

"Sam! There you are, I need you to plot a new course." Jolie threw the map into his hands. "We're going to have to go around the Binchet Rocks on starboard side." She paused to flip a few switches and strongly change direction of the boat. "We've got something up ahead." The window of the bridge was fogging up as she stared intently at the sea, then, Don caught her eye as he just stood there. "What the... Donvan! Get your ass in cover there's something out there in the water! No, better yet, get your ass to the Gunner's station! If that thing comes out of the water I want you to pelt it!" Jolie yelled the whole time, steering. The bubbling water sent waves the knocked Jolie slightly.

The First Mate even in his old age was still quite the agile one, he hopped from his post and pulled a measly flintlock out right next to the gunner; maybe it was for some false sense of security, or maybe it was to put Donovan out of his misery when he inevitably takes a hit. Thomas waits patiently for Furaotic to describe what the fuck it is for whatever the beast could be to pop up from the murky depths.

Jolie drew the lights from the usual position to face the troubled water, now bursting and rumbling. Something shot from the water, then another, and another. Jolie's shaking finger trained onto what was coming out from the depths; Long, purple tendrils flapped about above the water. At first it was only a few, but then multiple and in bunches shot from the water until it was nearly a wall of wriggling, sharp tentacles that moved around in the air and the water feeling for its prey.
The source of the terror slowly merged from the depths, and with it came the thick smell of sulfur from the erupting water. Waves smacked into the ship as a giant form, gyrating and morphing inside of a cocoon of tentacles. Water coming off the monstrosity crashed below and with the water revealed the full form, and one giant blinking eye straight center of it. The yellow pupil, which alone was larger than the boat, frantically moved around un til it focused on the ship. The tendrils in the air hissed back like snakes, large cobras the size of missiles ready to tear down the ship.
Jolie's eyes widened, bigger than she could've ever imagined. Just what was it? The larger horrors lurked away from this close to shore... Especially ones the size of a large cave stalactite.
(I'll be controlling this Enemy for the battle.)

Sam watched the monster come out of the sea and glared perfectly still into its eye "i believe this cretin and I are acquainted if we killed it we would gain much renown and much gold" before running to his map and equipment and replotting the course. he hoped the captain would ask for advice on how to kill the thing (HINT HINT i want to help kill the thing).

"Bloody hell..." mutters Allan. It was beginning to get uncomfortably hot inside the engine room, with the boiler being at full heat and multiple exposed pipes blowing off steam and smoke. He wipes some beading sweat off his forehead with the back of his hand, and keeps at work. The boat's rocking becomes more intense underneath his feet, and he stumbles for a second running across the room. He tries to brace himself on a pipe, but the one he grabs happens to be funneling hot steam at the moment. "Gah!" he shouts, rubbing his hand. The burn wasn't bad, but it sure did hurt. "Fookin' 'ell." He pulls his bandanna off his neck and wraps it around his hand, and then he gets back to work.
