(written by derg)

Cardin, of course, immediately ignored what Helen had just told him in favour of grabbing Solomon and dragging him back into the lab, holding up the plastic sapphire he'd been using for a mana gem.  He chirps a bit, gently pressing it into his hand and waiting patiently.  Solomon managed a little squeak of protest, being dragged about pretty much the instant Helen was busy with other things, giving a quizzical stare at the now-depleted mana gem, sighing as he fumbled with a small vial. The occasional straggler undead and otherworldly creature stalking the woods had given them an intermittent supply of essence and blood essence, and Helen had taught him the basics of consecrating it. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"

Cardin shakes his head, chirping an unintelligable response while waiting for Solomon to 'refill' the gem for him.  His wings stretch out a bit as he practically bounces with excitement, grabbing Solomon by the wrist as soon as it looks like he's done and leading him over to the book they were studying, flipping back to the page he was looking at and tapping the line with a talon, starting to cheep out a long-winded explaination before he remembers that nobody besides Melody can understand him.  The avian mutant moves one hand up to rub at his beak nervously as he lets go of Sol's wrist, his sharp talons having dug into his skin a little bit.  He looks a bit apologetic as he gently takes the gem back, holding it close to his chest again, not attempting anything yet.

Solomon sighed a bit at that gesture, concerned as glittering dull essence floated and drifted seemingly by thought, flowing into an steadily restoring that odd perception of radiance to the mana gem. No sooner had he done so then he gave a little yelp of surprise, dragged along back to the workstation in the lab, a bit nervous as he looked back at Cardin.

"Alright, just...be careful, okay? If something happens we might need to ask Helen for help, as I'm not sure either of us can handle whatever might go wrong." he pointed out, a bit uncertain as he tried to puzzle out just what Cardin was up to.

The avian takes a few steps back, bare talons clicking against the floor as he concentrates again, Solomon's hairs standing on end as a strange feeling fills the room, almost but not quite llike static electricity.  Cardin's wings lightly flap a bit as that wind returns again, slightly stronger this time as...  Something starts to form in the air between Solomon and Cardin, not really looking like, well, anything.  The ball of nothing shifts slightly, the 'edge' of it not quite clear.  An identical rift opens up directly behind Solomon, neither of them 'expanding' past being about basketball sized.   Cardin looks surprised for a second, before excitedly chirping and bouncing up and down a bit.

Without thinking for even a second to maybe realize that this could be a terrible idea, Cardin hops forward, sticking his arm straight through the rift.  He immediately squawks, with the sensation being like his arm, and only his arm, was being dunked into a bucket of ice water, a strange numbness spreading through his limb as it becomes visible from the other hole, feeling around a bit. The mutant gets an idea, leaning in a bit further to be able to reach Solomon's back, tapping him on the shoulder from behind with a curved talon.

Solomon watched warily, nervous as Cardin focused on magic he was rather unfamiliar with. He started to reach for his mask, yet he realized even if he activated it, what would he be looking for, and what could he even do? The need to actually do so however was made moot by the unnatural sensation and the vague image of a wavering mote of unreality, just distinct enough to be perceived with the naked eye.

He froze up, startled by the sight of it as he started to realize what it was. "Wh-Cardin, we really shouldn't be doing things like that, this is exactly the sort o-" He stopped himself only to go wide-eyed at Cardin doing what was probably the dumbest thing possible, jabbing his arm through it. He got about as far as putting a hand on the avian's shoulder with the intent of pulling him back, when he jumped at the hand tapping his shoulder, eliciting an underused fragment of what he'd picked up from studying to translate alchemical texts. "Γαμώ το!"

Cardin visibly restrains himself from laughing, already clearly having too much fun with this for it to be safe, and pulls his arm back, it coming back through both portals easily enough, and with a satisfying 'pop' that cause both rifts to vanish, seemingly...  Dispelled?  There doesn't seem to be much of a trace that they were even there in the first place, even if the spots were viewed through a mask of insight, although there was still a slight, fuzzy hint of them left behind.

(middle three paragraphs done by a derg)

Cardin quietly whistled to himself as he worked, sharp talons deftly flipping through pages of the book he was currently trying to study.  As usual, the translator's notes were wrong, but the mutant's grasp on Traditional Chinese still left a few things up to interpretation.  Chirping quietly, he slides his current, mostly-depleted, mana gem to the side, clearing up some space on the table as he moves the book front and centre.  The texts kept referencing something about a 'Path', though neither the notes nor Cardin could figure out the words before it.  Cardin leans forward, resting his beak on his hand, talons gently tapping against the hard material as he continues idly whistling a tune to himself.  After a couple more minutes of trying to figure out the context behind it, the avian mutant decides to just wing it, so to speak.

Shuffling his wings around and tightening the bandages covering some healing burn wounds from earlier experiments, Cardin picks up his mana gem and holds it close to his chest, closing his eyes and trying to focus on 'opening a path' by just removing the space between both points.  The gem starts to glow in his hands, gently at first, but it quickly starts shining brightly, growing hot in his grasp as the air starts to feel heavier, the pages of his study book starting to shift, reacting to winds that aren't there.  Cardin's feathers ruffle slightly as that 'wind' picks up, before everything stops suddenly, the mana gem fading back to a dull blue.

Solomon had been tending to matters in The Hall proper, the usual daily tasks in between his own studies, mask set aside for the moment. At least things had calmed down since Helen dealt with the bandits earlier. He made his way back to the area that was now serving as an improved workshop for testing and studying magic.

There was a table nearby as he entered, expecting to find the book the both of them had spent time studying, likely left haphazardly on it or elsewhere in the room. He wanted to put it away properly lest Helen have to put the books away for them, again. Or worse, if Isaac stopped by he might give them both an earful over it. Again.

Instead he saw the avian there, experimenting with something. "Hey Cardin. Everything alright?" Without his mask on he had no idea what the bird was up to, though something lingering in the air left him instinctively unease, and something caught his eye on glancing over at the adjacent table. Another of Helen's lessons entailed a small trinket carved of otherworldly ivory, and at some point it'd be cracked nearly in half for Green to practice mending with that stave he'd made. But now the formerly cross-shaped charm had unraveled into a tangle of thin bony tendrils, rewound into an alien symbol in reaction to some abnormality.

Cardin shrugs, his wings mimicking the action, as a response to Solomon's question.  He tosses the used gem, now obviously just a plastic sapphire replica, back onto the table, next to the book.  The avian cheeps quietly before pointing at the book, now flipped onto a completely different page in a language he doesn't recognise.  A few chirps and attempts at charades later, and Cardin just gives up on trying to convey what he was trying to do, his wings fluttering a bit before he settles down again.

(gotta love all these posts written by other people)

Solomon looked back over to Cardin, smiling a bit at that before giving a nod. "Anything else I can help you with? Well er...I can try. I'm sorry that I'm not good at following along..." he admitted, looking down.

Cardin tugs at Solomon's arm gently, chirping at him quietly.  The avian mutant drags him over to the book, and then opens it back up to the page he found the most interesting, one that was entirely in Chinese, and happily chirps at Sol, pointing at the (somewhat accurate) translation.

Solomon looked back to Cardin with a curious look, following along and regarding the section he opened with a curious look. "Oh? Nice. I don't have as much familiarity with the original sections except for the old Hellenic bits. Could translate that for you if you'd like. I know the author took some...odd liberties with the Greek portion, guessing they did the same for the other excerpts?"

Cardin shakes his head, then nods, chirping a couple times.  He gently traces a talon across the entry talking about alchemical fire, something the author put down as simply the discovery of fireworks.  "Cheep!" He clicks two talons together and then spreads his hands out, making a 'tchoo' noise.  He then looks at Sol and chirps again, tilting his head to the side.
Solomon hmmed a bit at that, glancing at the translation before smiling. "Something went right over the author's head, I'm guessing?" he remarked.

Cardin nods, then points over towards the hearth, nodding again.  Then he mimes throwing something, followed by him squatting down and doing another explosion gesture against the ground.  "Chirrup?  Tweet!"

Solomon smiled a bit at that, following him over to the hearth, before the gesture gave him pause. "Oh. It was something to do with incendiaries instead?" he asked, going off of a wild guess.

Cardin nods happily, wings fluttering.  A couple of happy chirps and tweets later, he gathers himself again, and gently pokes Solomon in the chest with the back of a talon, then points at the book, cocking his head and giving a chirrup.

Solomon gave a little sound at that poke, something vaguely like a squeak of surprise before regaining his composure. "Thinking about trying to figure how to make it? Should probably test it outside..."

(wadi and michael written with salt
mostly salt)

Wadi splattered against the figure spectacularly, reforming quickly and turning the splatter tackle into a Wadi signiture splatter hug. The figure, a golden spirit, looks down into the facsimile of her eyes.

"Well hello amorphous creature and Mr. Ford. What manner of being are you, and how did you gain access to this pocket dimension?"

Nearby, Nathaniel retches again and thanks god that he hasn't eaten. The movement inside this place is sickeningly Swift amd smooth.

Wadi's upper body pops out from the mess of slime, and the goo-girl reaches up to try and boop the spirit.

"Hi!I'mWadiIwentintothestupidtigerlady'stitsandfellinhere.Doyouhaveanyfood?" She babbles, running through it all one sentence, barely pausing between words.

Michael had never been "booped" before so he assumed the appendage which slapped softly but messilly into his face was perfectly acceptable. He let the good run down his face to repool with the slime wrapped around his waist like a girdle.

"I am Michael and I apologise, I have no food. Did mother send you to retrieve me?" Michael asked. Nathaniel could only struggle to his feet after the sudden movement and all the hacking and gagging. The motion sickness enduced by the blue world's sudden shift had thoroughly beat his stomach into a fine queesy slurry.

"How are you two... Still... Oh god..." He moaned. Then he was off again, wretching and dry heaving his woes to the blue dirt.

Wadi just looks confused at the question, ignoring the meanie she dragged into the weird blue place.  "Sharlene's like...  Talking to people rig- oh!  There's a mouse!  She's cute..." Wadi seems to have zoned out for a moment, but quickly comes back to her wits.  Or whatever it is she has.  "Sharlene didn't send me, I just wanted to know where the big tiger tits went!"

Michael didn't flinch at Wadi's energy, but he still had a hard time understanding her with the way she shifted from topic to topic. There was something endearing about it. The retching man held little interest for Michael at that moment as well. Sharlene had told him to stay put and keep an eye on things, but now there was nothing to watch. She'd removed everything.

"I... See?" He droned, glancing at the breasts suspended high up in the sky as they always did, "and so you climbed in? Along with Mr. Ford? I'm afraid there is not much to do around here."

"Yeah great." Nathaniel said, wiping his sleeve across his face. It had the opposite of the intended effect in that the action smeared dirt across his already clean face. "How do we get Lilith to dump us out?"

"Shut up, meanie!" Wadi shouts without actually looking at Nathaniel." The green slime starts actually looking over Michael, gasping at the sight of the sword arms. "Were you in an accident?  You might be legible for compensation!" She giggles at her own joke, and then detaches from the spirit, getting even smaller as she tried to imitate his stature and features.  "Look at me, I'm Michael!  Where's Mother?"

"I have always been this way." Michael explained, confused, "I thought you said your name was Wadi? But you are actually called Michael as well?"

"She's mocking you, big guy." Nathaniel growled, Wadi shot him an irritated glance and Michael stared down at her.

"I do not think so." He said finally, "Why would she mock me? Clearly it is as she says and you are a mean person seeking to keep us from our mothers." Michael watched Nathaniel not just warrily, but with a brand of growing hostility as well.

Wadi is slightly taken back by his remark, but returns back to her previous attitude quickly.  "I was born like this too!  I was born...  Four hours ago!  Mother doesn't like me..." She waves one of the dull green swords around.  "Nobody likes me!  It sucks!" She's specifically looking over at Nathaniel as she says that.

"Nobody likes you? Why not? You seem fine to me." Michael said, also taken aback.

Nathaniel approached cautiously, wondering just what the hell he had gotten into now. It seemed perfectly obvious, but also perfectly ludicrous. He had been grabbed and pulled into another dimension which existed between his giant tigress girlfriends breasts, a dimension which resembled his own world in every way except that it was devoid of life and was entirely blue. He seemed to be stuck listening to a green shape shifting slime thing hash out it's mother issues with a golden man with swords for arms. Frankly, Nathaniel was already sick of it, and wanted out.

"Excuse me, we should probably be looking for a way out." He said, deciding not to poke anyone for emphasis.

"Oh." Michael started, "I suppose I could let you out. Once out, perhaps we could even throw young Wadi here a birthday party."

Nathaniel slapped himself on the forehead hard enough to leave a mark.

Cardin silently reads through the alchemy book, wings folded up neatly behind him.  The avian is just sat cross legged on the floor near his cot, carefully leafing through the book.  The traditional Chinese parts take a bit of getting used to again, but once he remembers it, he starts questioning if pretty much any of the book is accurately translated, or if most of it is just the author's ramblings that just happened to work out well.  After checking out the rest of the book to see if there's anything else that interests him, Cardin puts the book down on top of his cot and stands up, stretching out his wings again and nearly smacks a viking in the face, earning a stern look and a grumbled insult.  One sheepish chirp of apology later, Cardin goes back to try and charades for Solomon to help him with something.

Wadi giggles at Nathaniel's frustrated reaction.  "Ha!  You're stuck!". She exclaims, bouncing up and down happily.  The slime freezes at something she spots in the distance while the environment shifts slightly.  She, for no apparent reason to Nathaniel, turns back into her Lilith cosplay and bolts off, only to yell "Hiiiii!" at something and try to splatter hug it like she did with Lilith.

Cardin happily chirps as he releases Solomon, bouncing up and down on the spot and fluttering his wings.  He does a low, long whistle before covering his beak with his hands.  Looking apologetic, the bird picks the book back up and starts to wander off, plopping himself on the floor next to the cot he was in and starting to read through it, waving off Solomon like he was a servant.

Wadi was stuck to Lilith like she was made out of fly paper, despite the agitated tiger's best efforts.  The slime felt weirdly cold against her fur, and she hated it.   "NataLEEEEEEEE!  THUPID GREEN THING ON LILITH!"  She roars, bellyflopping onto the ground again.  The green googirl just flattens herself against Lilith's midsection, then reforms when the feline gets up once more.  "Missed me!"  Wadi moves upwards again, grabbing onto Lilith's teeth as she 'rolls' over the blue chest wrap.  "Oooooh, what's thiiiiiis?   Didn't you have b-"  The goo is cut off by Lilith sneezing again.  "Rude!  Didn't you have bigger tits before?   Where's your boobies?"  She accompanies her question by getting rid of the ears and tail, using their mass to make a pretty sizeable bosom, orbs 'balanced' on top of Lilith's muzzle.

A couple of violent thrashes later, and Wadi appears to have vanished completely, save for a few drops of green gel on top of the blue thing, and what seems like an echo.  "Wheeeeeeee!"

whoo)

Cardin had stopped attempting to chug his bowl of soup at the mention of magic. Quietly chirping, he leans forward, still holding the bowl up towards his beak. "A construct of some kind, a...homunculus?" That definitely caught his interest more, with the avian putting down his bowl and scooting closer to the radio until the conversation ends. "Chirp, chirrup?" He 'asks' Solomon, cocking his head to the side.

Solomon unfortunately had no idea what the chirp meant, but he could make a reasonable guess from the way Cardin reacted to the discussion on the radio. "That was Helen. Handles a lot of the magic-related stuff here." he explained. "As er...weird as it is to just say 'magic' as if it's normal." he admitted.

Cardin blinks a couple times, head still cocked, before flaring his wings out. "Tweet! Cheep?" He points over at nothing in particular, then makes an 'expanding' motion with his hands while making a rumbling noise in the back of his throat. After he's finished with that, he looks back up at Soloman inquisitively, wings neatly tucked back up against him and his foot-talons curled up. It seems like the talk of magic has really interested the bird.

Solomon blinked at that, uncertain at first what to make of that. Something going out or exploding? That wouldn't make sense. he thought, before getting an idea. He reached over to retrieve one of the books that had been set out, an old alchemical text he'd had for quite some time. "I'm...guessing you're asking about this stuff?" he asked, a bit hesitant and uncertain of himself. "To be honest I'm still learning myself...okay, either that or you just asked if I'm insane for just casually talking about weird magic stuff, in which case I don't blame you."

Cardin's wings droop behind him and he shakes his head. The bird points to a spot on the floor not too far away, raises both of his hands, and does some incredibly strange looking motion involving his left hand going past his stationary right hand, which he then closes. He doesn't wait for a response before standing up, wings fluttering slightly for balance, and continuously quietly chirping at Solomon, as if that'd suddenly make him able to understand him. A quick glance at the book makes him pause, though. "Chirrup." He states, grabbing at it despite his wicked sharp-looking talons.

The look on Solomon's face said it all, he was completely stumped by that gesture, and increasingly embarrassed at not getting it. "I um...sorry, I'm kinda bad at this..." he said, trailing off a bit. "Not sure how to...oh. H-here, go ahead." he said, offering the book to Cardin and opening it for him.

Cardin smugly chirps at Solomon, then slides a talon down the side of the book, splitting two pages apart and turning the page. If he could smile, it looks like he'd be grinning his arse off right now. The bowl of soup is still just sat on the ground behind him, going cold, while he looks over a couple pages and then promptly dumps the book on the table. "Cheep!" He exclaims happily, giving Sol a hug and narrowly avoiding stabbing him in the spine with those talons.

Solomon was about to mention some of the things he'd learned from reading it, though Cardin could easily enough figure out what the book was going on about. Much of it concerned the proper science and history of alchemy itself and the chemical principles behind it, but at times it hinted at less mundane matters and the author's own findings. In time, seguing into the unconventional experiments using developments from about 30 years prior to the cataclysm.

And Solomon didn't get much chance to add his own remarks on the book before the avian dropped it in favor of pulling him into a hug, almost going limp as the only response he could manage was a quiet, embarrassed little squeak. "Er...it's alright, I..." he stammered out, surprised by Cardin's reaction.

Wadi wraps her 'legs' around Lilith's neck, having made a small cowboy hat.  "Whooo!"  She exclaims.  The disembodied, forest green torso waves about that 'hat', giggling like a maniac as Lilith throws herself around in an effort to dislodge the slime girl.  "THUPID TMHMALL- NATALEEEEEE!"  Lilith roars, standing up and then slamming down onto her back, managing to dislodge a cloud of dust/dirt in the process.  The hyperactive slime girl spins around to Lilith's chest, having ditched the hat idea in favor of partially copying Lilth's face again.  "Thilly Lilith!"  Wadi leans down and pokes Lilith's nose, making the massive feline sniffle and then sneeze, slamming her paws into the dirt once more.  Wadi slides down to Lilith's belly as the tiger angrily swats at her own chest, then rolls over onto all fours.  "THU-"  Anything Lilith was trying to say is drowned out by her own frustrated growling as the two continue their strange rodeo.
