Holy crap, I just rediscovered this place.

It's like finding your old house decades after the apocalypse.

Could I possibly hop in real quick? And would this kind of role be acceptable for the setting?

Name: Harris Weaver
Age: 25
Skills: Rifles, Throwing, Climbing
History: A former soldier, Harris did not spend much time outside the brig due to his rebellious nature. There were multiple times where he'd refuse to follow orders on account of "being told to commit crimes against humanity" in his words, and at one point finally snapped and offed his immediate superior. Naturally, the high command was not pleased and gave a dishonorable discharge immediately upon return to base, and was "reassigned" to work in one of the camps. Subconsciously, he rejected every one of the "reeducation" lessons, but worked his hardest and attempted to sign himself to Civil Protection in the slim hope that he could at least see work as a street patroller just to get out of the horrid camp conditions.
Record: 3 counts of insubordination, 1 count of murder, 4 counts of theft, sympathizing with the "anarchists".

I had this crazy nutso idea floating around for a while that was very gun-heavy when it came to combat, using a very simplistic damage model that took the math equation Dam=D*L/10+B where D is the diameter of a bullet in millimeters, L is the length of its case also in mm, and B being the gun's barrel length in inches. So a standard 9x19mm MP5 submachine gun with an 8.9-inch barrel would deal 26 damage per bullet (out of, on average, 100 health points), based on 9x19/10 being 17.1, plus the barrel adding up the remainder. Or an AKM hitting with 46 damage, if 7.62x39/10 is around 29.7 + 16.3 = 46. On the one hand, this leads to such imbalances as 9mm subcompact pistols being stereotypically underpowered. On the other hand, pretty much everything else is shown that guns are indeed deadly devices that are not to be fucked around with when dilly-dallying about.

That being said, my original idea was for either a dystopian America with resistance cells fighting a tyrannical US gov't or some sort of post-apocalyptic... thing. I'm not quite sure what even an alpha would look like, since I was mostly focused on thinking out the mechanics for accuracy, encumberment, environmental effects, and suchlike.

Well I had fun shooting a 1911, two AR-15s, an M1 Garand, and an M1903 Springfield yesterday.

I'd post videos and pics here, but until I can find a way of posting straight from Facebook to here without Imgur or anything like that, y'all are gonna have to wait a while.

So thus I occupy a village, after brutally murdering its entire population of 14 testificates in various manners. Unfortunately, this seed had a very odd generation of the village on top of a ravine, leaving the wood bases of a hut and the blacksmith reaching aaallllllllllll the way down to the bottom of the ravine. "This is really gonna bother me," thought I, so I went about and crafted tools to eliminate the oddity by hand. I decided to use stone, since I had 2 full stacks of the stuff, and took the rest of my sticks to the crafting table.

In my then-apparent stupidity, I crafted about 10 stone axes.

Cursing myself for such a rash action, I set about to rid the ravine of the horrid structure generation. Now that I'm done chopping the ravine-scrapers away, my results are: 4 unused stone axes, 1 axe at half durability, 28 acacia planks, 1 acacia fence and door, 1 wood pressure plate, and 903 pieces of acacia logs.

I think I know what my next project is going to be.

Well, all good things must come to an end. I just got home from being with my cousins as they had to put down their dog earlier today. Poor old guy was practically wasting away in front of them, he would barely eat, and couldn't get up and down their stairs any more.

The saddest part of this story is that they've had him since before my younger cousin (who is a year older than me) started school, and he is now graduating as a senior from high school this year. 13 years pass; a boy and his dog, starting an adventure together, and now finishing that adventure together.

Spoiler: Derpy screenshot (hover to show)
I can't help but visualize those being evil clones of Papyrus.

Speaking of which, I now officially despise my brother with every fiber of my existence, because he has Undertale tracks eternally stuck in my head.

The jacket, shirt, and tie are just right, but unless you are trying accommodate a massive pair of testicles or hiding a secret booze pouch, your pants are far too large. Still though, the colors and style of suit suits you well.
I am so sigging this.

I dunno. Once I get solid plans, constraints, workarounds to said constraints, materials, and estimated costs, I'll probably open up a thread in the "Creative Endeavours" board, since I think that's where this would belong once I get out of the planning stages.

But hey, the cast iron trench armor is still a possibility, right? :|
Uhhhhh. Trench armor, possibly. Cast iron? Probably not, since it's a real pain in the ass to keep unrusted, and it'd be too heavy and obscenely expensive for something as simple and silly as an airsoft tank. The heaviest "armor" I would go with is probably plywood around a steel frame, since plywood is cheap, far easier to work with, and doesn't rust. I'm protecting the crew from BBs, not (real) HEAT rounds. :P

Madness, build a scaled-down Abrams (or maybe a Merkava) complete with adorable tiny main gun.
I was actually thinking about sizing the main gun so it can fire Nerf footballs (the ones with fins on them) as "anti-tank" shells to eliminate enemy vehicles as per field rules, and then just attaching a standard airsoft M16 alongside to act as the coaxial machine-gun. Or, making shells of the same diameter as the Nerf round, put a plastic wad into the new shell, and fill the wad with pellets to make that round work like canister shot.

Yes, I am aiming for a very ambitious project.

Or go halfway and build a WWI tank.

Complete with cast iron German trench armor.
Considering that most WWI tanks generally had the engine sitting in the same compartment as the crew, I don't think I'd want to do that. Plus, the lack of a turreted main gun seems less entertaining IMO.

I don't quite know why (other than my newfound fascination with tanks and armor).

But now I have an obsession with designing and building a fully-functioning model tank solely for use in an airsoft game.

I have very basic ideas for the subsystems of the tank itself--like the main gun, the turret, the potential chassis--but I still have to come up with "how" methods on actually acquiring the parts and materials I'd need to make it into a usable plan, and then working out said plan to fit within at least a dozen different design constraints (most importantly limiting size and speed) to be able to actually construct the plans into a functioning prototype.
