Interestingly, it was replaced by all manner of things that make the game "harder" in the sense that you need to spend more time to accomplish things.
Nothing should be considered "too hard" especially in a fucking rougelike. I remember a long time ago they wanted it to be difficult but they refused to put things in the game that'd result in an instant-kill which I guess makes sense given that's its an open-world game, but at the same time I think insta-kill bullshit is a staple of the roguelike genre due to how commonplace it is and how it usually results from risk-taking or the own player's stupidity.
Fascinating, considering the game has several things that can instantly kill you. Even if you are playing with the defualt starting scenario.
