No. No they did not. It is simply a steep morale penalty tied to a thing that cannot be removed without soap and water. Soap which happens to be quiet rare. Bleach? Nope.
I want to say over exaggerating but I'm not sure if that's the right phrase... you dudes are making it seem like a bigger problem then it actually is.
It's tedious as fuck Wilson. Tedium is not fun. It's... tedious. Just another step between the player and fun.
Back when I first played the game, in A.0, if you said to me "Hey, try this game. It has zombies and robots and mutants and base building and dungeon exploring and a huge world to explore and tons of items and you can build a death car or become a cyborg mutant!" I would have said "fuck yeah, gimme that shit." In fact that's just what I did say, and I played it. If you went further and said "but you gotta repair your clothes and load all your bullets into the magazine one at a time and then load the magazine into the gun and you gotta have a hard to find winch/jack to build your vehicle." I would have said "uh. Ok, that sounds kind of boring, but that other stuff sounds cool. Maybe I will try it out. maybe." If you went even further and told me I had to do the laundry or suffer a heavy morale penalty which will stop me from doing any of the fun stuff, I would tell you to go fuck yourself. I don't want to do fucking chores in a video game. I hardly put up with that shit in Salem.

In salem you do those chores because you get an immediate tangible reward in the form of silver or high value products. Cataclysms tedium isn't even comparable to viscera cleanup detail's fun tedium where you are basically a scifi janitor. In VCD, you are being scored based on your time and efficiency. The meaninglessness is lost because you are working towards a goal. In cataclysm you do those chores just to be able to wear a shredded T-shirt. Fucking laundry day bullshit for no tangible anything. Just do it to make the game more tedious than it needs to be. Instead of playing cataclysm, I could be doing actual laundry.

When I find myself doing stuff like cleaning filthy damaged clothing in ascii video games, I question the quality of my life. After that, I shut the fucking game down, put the game in the recycling bin where it belongs, and go for a long walk in the swamp to think about what I should be doing with my life.

I kinda thought the magazine system was interesting at least. It's just that...tedium, frustration, all these other things need to be balanced. They need to have a sane, practical reason for existence. :V

Also, did any of you ever end up giving my arcana mod a try? I kinda...put a lot of love into cooking up the implied lore behind the major books, items, and sites. I kinda hope it at least is still functional. What about gaining arcana skill from the books? That was the expected method of developing skill, not endlessly crafting with difficult-to-acquire items.

Laundry, real time. CDDA is really going to shit innit?
I for one can't wait for them to introduce real-time poop mechanics, having to mange when AND where you have to poop and the disposal of it.

At what point will 'realism' trump fun for them?
They're already past that point. Seems like they're just throwing stuff in more because they can and less that it makes a good game-play mechanic with 'realism' to make them feel validated for shoving it in.

I always quite liked the arcana mod.

If it's not interrogation porn then it's poorly named and a missed opportunity.
Well, if you think about it, rape is for fun.
if utterly mad was any gayer, i'd shop here
I'd rather circumcise myself in a public place.
Eh, I don't really find anyone's sig too unreasonable. Though Caconym's is almost unreasonable

Dark Days Ahead indeed.
I had fun with the madness back in the day. Gave a bear a Viking burial, rammed a semi into a military bunker. With the way its going I am half expecting to have to file a fucking death certificate to zombie-bureaucracy for each zombie I kill, with accurate wait times and having to manually fill out the papers. Its a game gone to shit because of development being driven by one, SHITTY dev, all the others trying to distance themselves from it or just going along.
Nothing we can do but be glad we met because of it. Hey, does anyone even play Cata anymore? I don't think I actually know anyone who dies.
Thanks Peri for making me question muh sexualities once again.

From the sounds of it they pretty much killed a new player's chance of being able to pick up the game and play without a wiki. I was able to do that when I first started, slowly learning how to do things by exploring both the randomly generated world and the UI to figure things out. It was my fourth character when I learned to destroy the lockers in the shelter and make a crowbar for an improvised weapon and a tool for breaking into buildings.
Now, with all this bullshit I don't think new players would be able to do that with much ease.

Either way I don't play it anymore so all these new systems are news to me, but sounds like they've royally fucked the game.

I remember some of the fun shit I did, yeah. Like the cause of my very first post on the forums, in the "how did you last die" thread...

Funny thing, what that screenshot doesn't show is the Roman armor the character was decked out in. I'd added medieval weapons, armor, and shields to More Survival Tools WAAAY back when I was still using 0.B stable, and I removed the medieval stuff to add later when I released that first mod.

I still remember that time my truck disintegrated around me when I hit a bush going at something like 500MPH back in A.0, leaving my character completely unharmed, still buckled into her seat, skidding across the ground on what was left of the frame under the seat.

Aya.
Let's turn our faces away from cataclysm for awhile now while our memories are still fond. Good memories often turn to salt when they are about something that went as bitter as that did.
In other news, a developer gave me a gift in Salem. I cleaned up the central hub by hauling most of the corpses in town to the graveyard and one of the developers gave me a reapers scythe. For reference, since most if not all of your don't play salem, the reapers scythe is an almost entirely unobtainable item. You can't even get one from the games cash shop and there is no entry for it on the games wiki. I only know of at least 3 others in the entire game. One of them belongs to a powerful acquaintance, one sits in the treasury of a place called "the vatican" which is owned by a repugnant fool, and the third is out in the lumberwoods somewhere in the hands of an unknown pilgrim.

I invite all of you to join me in Gulgatha if you decide you'd like to play the game.

Never tried Salem, don't even really know much about it.

Meanwhile I am...crushing my bandwidth like a bug, since it's late in the month. Might as well get nuDoom partially installed on the off chance that my PC can run it. :V

With my potato of an internet connection? Plus I would assume it's an MMO something, which I never did get that into.

It is in fact an MMO something. I'll post screens at some point, but I can totally understand if anybody says "no bitch. get away from me with your weird colonial shit!"
