"I know what kobolds like!" Said saltmummy, striding into a private conversation between Chaosvolt and Apatheticexcuse. She didn't much care for what they were talking about, though she understood that it was probably important. Apathetic looked deeply annoyed. "Fine, you can be in charge now." Saltmummy looked at apathetic with suspicion. She didn't really want to be in charge again. "What about caconym?" She asked, putting aside her "wonderful" idea for a moment. "Caconym doesn't know how long a year is." Said Chaosvolt, "No one bothered to tell Caconym when to pass on the reigns to someone else. I've been running things since... midsummer?" Apathetic nodded. "I guess you hadn't noticed though." Saltmummy scratched her head. "Nope! Anyways, kobolds want zoo!" Apathetic placed her palms on her face and began screaming into them. While Chaosvolt simply cocked her head at an angle and stared at Saltmummy with incredulity. "How Saltmummy." Asked Apathetic when she finally managed to reign in her temper. "How are you going to capture animals and put them in cages." Saltmummy hadn't thought that bit through. "Maybe small animals then? You catch? Yes?" Apathetic struggled not to raise her hands to her face again, but found that she couldn't avoid that AND prevent them from throttling Saltmummy at the same time. "That's a stupid idea." She shouted after having another good scream. "No it not. You got army of rock-bolds. Rest of us want zoo. Why rock-bolds but not zoo? Zoo more interesting. Why big coffin room but not zoo? Since I in charge now, we build zoo." Apathetic immediately regretted telling her she was in charge.

OOC: I just got an idea.

Oh this is gonna be good. I predict the lack of mechanics will screw us over again. o3o

I will build the greatest zoo the world has ever seen, and I will do so without mechanisms.
also, the stair configuration was a bit off, so I fixed it.

And a single Z level below that, is another one. We have ourselves a shallow embark gents.

Not sure how, since you can't tame wild animals unless they're in cages. D:

And...uhoh. Hope you're ready to be drowning in troglodytes.

Oh, you will see mr. dragon. You will see ;D
Also, a single unarmed kobold just wrecked the shit out of a giant olm before it fled in terror from him. Then the military got there and wrecked it's shit even harder.

Heh. Compared to goblin-raised elves, that's hardly a threat. I hope that the squads are finally sporting some refitted metal armor by now. <3

Some of them yes. It looks like they are about to run out of things to refit though.

Also dragon, might I suggest for the mod making it so kobolds can build stone fall traps? Removing the mechanism requirement I mean. Stone fall traps seem like one of those things kobolds would use.

Down in the second cavern layer, I spot a pair of blind cave ogres and a troll. Fortunately, the stairs are too high up for them.

I'm not sure what this is about, but for now I'm sealing it and rerouting it's access through the fort proper. Kobolds going through here to collect things is slowing the works up. I'm already in the process of sealing the caverns, so it shouldn't be that big of a problem.

This would be nice, except traps are hard-coded. If I could, I'd add cage traps using a rope instead of a mechanism, and maybe rock traps too. But those can't be altered. Closest thing to a trap would be upright spears, which can be propped up without a mechanism. But you'd need a way to coerce enemies to fall onto them...

And yeah, not a lot of goblinite available because there were only 10 of them. ;w;

I assume Apathetic did that, but I did seal part of it so enemies can't get underneath the fort from outside. Most likely the kobolds are pathing into the part of the tunnel on the other side of that wall, which thus can only be accessed from outside.

Saltmummy looked over the plans she had drawn up. It was clever. At least by her standards. She just needed a place to put it all. She looked over a rough charcoal sketch of the warrens she'd ordered one of the children to make. To their credit, it was actually quiet detailed and Saltmummy found a good place already dug out.

Here. Just outside Apathetics rooms. 'It would be a surprise,' she thought, 'Apathetic would love it.'
Saltmummy wondered briefly if she would have enough time and space to finish the zoo. She was sure she could get all the animals in there... Maybe...

Ah alright about the mechanisms and traps. Oh well.

I recall even examining the string dump to see if I could parse the trap's name using raw building tokens, but that fell through. :V

And now to fumble with the squad-move order until one of them blunders into the room. o3o

Fall gives in to winter, but just beneath the surface there is an important meeting going on behind closed doors. Gathered in this room are the warrens collection of rangers, animal trappers, carpenters, masons, farmers, a few soldiers, and one very excited shaman. All the animal trainers except apathetic. Apatheticexcuse was too busy for some idea she saw as a half brained project laid out by a less than half brained shaman. "You all clear on what needs doing?" Saltmummy asked. Upon seeing them all nod or hearing them answer in the affirmative, she asked "and you know not to tell anyone?" Again she waited for the affirmative. The kobolds gathered before her were surprised at what she was trying to pull off. Capturing animals without the secret of dwarven mechanisms? It seemed at first like an idiotic idea, and one that would get most of them killed. Once they heard what she had planned though they realized that unlike most shamans, this one was no fool. They only hoped that the warren wouldn't be underwhelmed by the new zoo once it was finished.

"Nothing too big." Saltmummy said, turning to the rangers. "Giant animals not fit and man-animals too strange for kobold childrens. Don't be fancy either. No making things up!" Most of the assembled bolds agreed. It would be something they thought they could be proud of, even if the fort didn't take to it like their esteemed shaman thought they would.
