Heh, yeah sorry about that AJ. Most of the fights here probably won't be super gory but I made that one a bit rough to show how brutal these animals were. I mean, it's not humans, humans will slash you or stab you and be done with it. Animals tear you limb from limb and completely destroy eachother if their survival depends on it.

Continued:

Wile let out a cry of alarm as the Red eyes lurked forward towards the light. Winter tugged on his arm, dragging him up to the Entrance of Kings.

Meanwhile Stone drew his blade and held his shield ready, he was going to protect the civilians if it was the last thing he ever did.
The red eyes glared at Stone
"Killed your master did we? That's so sad...and yet it makes me so glad."
"Die beast!" Stone shouted as he sprinted forth, by now the Entrance Guards were drawing their own weapons and running to fight.
The Pack seemed wary to fight this time, as though they were afraid. The figure stepped into the light.
His finger bones had leapt through his hands, curling into wicked claws. His shoulders curled into wicked spearlike appendages, a long protruding scorpion like tail of bone came from his rear. He let out a shriek that made everyone else stop and glare.

"What's wrong? Afraid of the dark?" It shouted with a scream which seemed to shake the foundation of Fortress itself.
Stone shook his head in fright and began to run from the creature. The Entrance guards had stopped in their place.
The beast lurched forward like it was faster then light itself.  Wile and Winter passed the Entrance guards, turning in time to see the beast smack Stone to the ground and continue towards them.
They kept running.
"Run, run!" An elderly voice shouted from the other end of the hall, out stepped Roland, his arms pointing vividly to the way downstairs!
"T'e safety! Go, go!" he yelled.
They did as they were told, running down the stairs as fast as they could, a crowd of onlookers with terrified looks watched them, a couple of people came out to give hugs to the pair who had survived.

But where was Roland...
Wile jerked free of Winter's grasp and sprinted back up the stairs.
The beast was marching through the Entrance of Kings. The pair of Guards lay dead at his feet.
"Bring back my prey old man."
"They're not yers ta' keep!"
The beast let out a horrific roar and sprinted towards Roland. Roland flicked his rod out.
The creature pounded downwards with it's shoulder spear, Roland knocked it aside, returning a blow to the chin of the beast.
"Quite the fighter are we?"
The creature slammed the rod to the ground with it's palm, grasping onto Roland by the throat and slamming him up against the wall.
"If you'll not bring them to me...I will."
The beast opened it's mouth wide, a long tube stabbed out, inserting into Roland's chest and beginning to pump something.

Wile went white as he heard Roland scream...it was the worst sound he'd ever heard. Tears streamed down his face as he sprinted back down the stairs, running straight into Winter and holding onto her for support.
Everything had gone so wrong...so quickly.

The stairway was locked with a metal gate, and the screaming finally ended.

Dude you're completely fine. I mean half of the stuff I right is gorey, I mean I even have it as my description: "Goes over-board on the gore text"

(even then I think you achieved your purpose when writing about how the beasts attack, ick'd me out. 10 Points to Exodus)

When the gate had finally re-opened and the dreaded beast was gone, Wile sprinted outside to check on his dear old friend.

They found him lying there in the fetal position, unconscious and bleeding out of a long hole in his chest, but alive.
"Thank the Creator." he breathed as a group of Fortress doctors rushed to give him aid.

Wile was grateful that his friend was alive, but he heard another voice...a saddened voice.
"Grandpa." it cried, obvious emotion in the voice. Wile turned to find a rosy cheeked Winter, tears streaming down her face as she watched the doctors carry away Roland.
"It's okay, Winter...it's okay." He soothed, giving her a hug and patting her on the back as he spoke.
"He's hurt bad, Grandpa!" she shouted, as Wile continued to soothe her.
She laid her head into his chest, tears soaking the cloth as he continued to soothe.

Wile snuck into the medical office, it was a surprisingly bright room with carvings of various animals on the walls.
He slid into the room, it had taken him a long time to wait til Winter had finally left the bedside, but now he was alone with Roland...and more importantly the person he wanted to see.
"Boney." He said.
A middle-aged man spun around from Roland, staring at Wile.
"Doctor Bone...not Boney." He said, rolling his eyes. "What do you want?"
"I'd like to know how he is." Wile said, trying to ignore the aggressiveness of the Head of Fortress' medical staff.
"Nothing you can do for him." Boney said, spinning back around to face Roland.
"Did it inject him?" Wile said, his voice trembling for just a moment.
"Yes." Boney replied, cold as ever.

Wile shook his head sadly and left the room.
Being injected by an Abomination was one of the worst fates a person could face. It meant they had sent in their life-sucking poison, and it was almost impossible to survive without a cure.
Each Abomination was different however, so to create a cure, one had to take the venom glands of the Abomination which had injected the poison in the first place...which was nigh impossible unless it was killed presently.

As Wile strolled to his room, a tear strolling down his eye he had a terrible and yet beautiful thought at the same time.
The Abomination was still out there...that meant a cure could be fabricated, it just had to be killed or captured. He wiped the tear from his eye, his face became hardened.
That meant he had to hunt it down.

NOW WE GOT THE MOTIVATION FOR AN ADVENTURE/QUEST!

Now I actually have to ask, how advanced is magic in this world. Is it like high-fantasy or low-fantasy... or is it like Dwarf Fortress/Lord of The Rings.

No actual magic at this point.
Some creatures will have strange abilities however.
