So, all my crap showed up today, which surprised me because shipping from the US usually takes a while longer.

Any opinions on the Tiger grips vs. the black ones? I was pretty set on the tigers, but they're a lot more orange than the picture indicated. Like, orange like an orange orange.

I might just modify them both as I'm planning to build a Commander length gun in the opposite twotone after this. But yes, thoughts?
Gone. Cheers guys.

Now all you need is an Anzio 20mm and you'll have one of the most badass collections ever.

Once opon a time I was speculating on a Lahti 20mm, but then I saw one blow up. There's a bit of a design flaw in them that allows them to sometimes try to chamber two rounds at once, which results in the first round being detonated (for lack of a better word) by the second round as it pushes into the primer. That, plus the cost of shooting one, kinda turned me off them.
Gone. Cheers guys.

I am unfortunately unable to find my pictures, but yeah, it gets ugly quick. Buddy still has a face, but he was pretty red for a while.

So, my "in the meantime" project fell through. I got to thinking about what sorts of pressures naval bronze is probably rated to, especially when it's held together with a very simple hinge pin. I decided that there will be no crazy 12 gauge handcannon for me. Yet, anyway. The hunt for a sturdier basis for it is still going on.

That said, the 1911 is mostly done.

I went with the Operators in orange - the black ones look nice, but I would have had to slim them down, so this was easier. Not 100% happy with how the fitting went - I think those rubber Grippers turned out better, but I don't think you can see any of the issues I have in the pictures.

One thing you might notice, if you've shot a gun with Operators on it before, is that this hurts your hands. Fuck, it hurts my hands just to look at. I don't think pictures really convey how stupid aggressive these grips are.

Imagine grabbing a cheese grater and you might have the right idea. This will eat my hand to shoot; here's what it looks like after just picking it up:

Besides the obvious work, I've got the full length guide rod in (which as predicted, was probably a pointless waste of money), and I've clamped the safety in place because it was loose and I'm too lazy to fix it. It never gets used anyway. I also added in that little checkered piece on the front strap. It's a chinzy little bit of metal, but cost nothing and actually seems to hold up ok. It's also VERY sharp, just in case the gun wasn't cheese grater-y enough.

Engraving still has to happen, but I'm pretty happy with it otherwise. Pretty hard to recognize it as the gun in the first post.

Gone. Cheers guys.

I was planning to put the black ones on, which are also nice but less likely to eat me, but wide and all. I'll just wear gloves if my hand starts to get bloody. And I'm never gonna drop the thing, that's for sure.
Gone. Cheers guys.

Does anybody around here remember this thing from a few years ago? I think it was called "the liberator" or something like that. It was some kind of 3D printed gun, and there was a modest clusterfuck about it.

[edit]
yeah, the liberator.

And people were convinced that by now we'd all be printing out 3D guns and killing their children with them.

Now imagine how many more fatalities likely ensued from dumb fucks trying to make a pure, 100% printed gun, right down to the parts that really oughta be metal. :V

AFAIK it's entirely possible to make a completely 100% 3D printed gun.
Surprisingly it doesn't really take a lot to make a functional, safe, gun. Sure you're containing and directing an explosion in a confined space but polymer is some pretty strong shit.

People have made functional firearms out of some pretty weak metal and even wood.

You still need springs and firing pins and shit, but 3D printing does promise to render gun control in general pretty much 100% ineffective.

It's not hard to make a reasonably functional gun, but making a safe one is a bit more involved.
Gone. Cheers guys.
