It's indeed for bird hunting. And pumps are far superior for that because you can have a total of three at that point, as well as a much less expensive gun. Only disadvantage is a single choke, but I get the idea few people really understand how those work anyway.

Birds here generally being waterfowl. Might differ where you are, but here you can take as many rounds to chase grouse as you want.

It's actually good that tube is glued as the threads are easy to fuck (as is the actual mag tube) if you don't know what you're doing. What I find is much more frustrating is the way the foreend is attached. You have to replace the whole thing with one from a 500 just to get a flashlight rail on there.

One might fuck it up trying to remove the mag tupe using pliers because if the glue though, and I agree with it being a pain in the ass to accessories.

I would be more concerned with getting a follow-up shot if you fuck up the first one. Most double-barrels are quicker to follow up with than a pump-action. And if you can't get even one clean hit on a bird that's flying away with two shots, you really don't deserve a third. :V

You shouldn't use pliers to get it out. Generally you shouldn't need to or try to yank those from any shotgun. We get them out with a heatgun and a rubber gripper, but usually avoid it - an hour of work on an 88 generally exceeds the price of a new one.

Depending on the design, a skilled user (different from competent) can usually get three shots out of a pump just as fast as you can with an O/U or SxS, and you don't need to shift your grip to do so. Single trigger guns are typically a bit better than doubles for this, but IMO the only real advantage is having access to two different patterns depending on the circumstance.

Not to mention O/Us are stupid pricey for what you get, and generally don't fit both tall people and lefties, of which I am both. Maybe I'm just prejudice.

So I just went to an indoor gun range and went for ammo before hand; picked up ten 00 buckshot for $10 and twenty-five 8 shoot shells for $8. They told me they only allow slugs and buckshot there so only got to shot my shotgun ten times. Any reason target loads would not be allowed in the range?

Well, I could make a couple guesses - steel might present a ricochet concern to them (which means 90% of hunting loads since the big lead conspiracy thing), and they could be worried they don't have proper ventilation to clear out the lead residue from a bunch of pellets vs. a few big ones (which honestly doesn't make a lot of sense as I suspect the amount of lead aerisolized would be pretty much the same, but many ranges have rules which don't make sense).

Realistically though, these kinds of rules result from a single person doing something dumb (our handgun range here doesn't allow any rifle including .22s, or shotguns, because someone shot up some targets with an SKS once), and aren't always logical even objectively speaking. My other guess would be this - someone shot part of the equipment with a steel load and damaged it, so now no loads with many pellets allowed.

Should go find yourself a nice big field to blast away in. Also, if you got the two barrel combo, don't shoot slugs or buckshot through the long barrel.

Could be a perceived greater risk of winging the ceiling and damaging the pulley for the targets. Or the lights. They're likely overestimating the amount of spread on a shotgun, or they don't want to underestimate how bad a customer's aim might be. :V

Both the indoor ranges I've been to that even allow shotguns at all insist on slugs only, not even buckshot.

This is why ranges should also sell those rounds that just sort of turn into dust when they hit steel and use steel targets, then everyone is happy.

I think they're called fragmentation rounds actually, but I can't quite remember.

Frangible. But then the cost of running the range goes up (you need both better ventilation and to buy the ammo in the first place), and you're now forcing people to use ammo that won't behave anything like what they are there to shoot outside of the range, not to mention charging them a fair bit for it. Good way to kill a range right there.
