UIK War front, fourth division

We had been fighting for almost a month non stop here. Our rifles and machineguns were running low on ammo and we were rationing food and water.  On top of that the trenches had gotten muddy and some of the men were now having to wear mud covered clothes after tripping.
On top of that a number of our gas masks had never arrived, and several more had been damaged or destroyed during our time here, so that only half of the soldiers were properly equipped. Fortunately the enemy had not sent gas shells into our trenches yet.
I'm afraid we won't be able to hold the position for much longer without reinforcement or resupply.

Assignment 44456
William S. Masterson, Gefreiter assigned to third division clean up squad 602 (AKA: The Black Spots)
Informal Report as per request of division commander

As you may know we are called The Black Spots. We are so called because our otherwise grey helmets are adorned with black spots on the forehead resembling the black spotted flag that old naval vessels used to inform other approaching vessels that the men aboard had the black plague. This symbol has thus far caused fear in those who have run into us, and we continue to fashion our helmets in this fashion to honor our former and now dead squad leader.
As I'm sure you also aware of clean up squads such as mine consist of approximately fifteen soldiers, a minimum of two carrying flammenwerfers, seven of the remaining men carrying submachine guns, and the rest carrying rifles. This set up is to ensure the success of the objective, which is generally to subdue a town or other captured civilian district. The flammenwerfers are to intimidate and to burn down the structures of any who decide to resist or attack us.

As per usual we approached the town at approximately ten A.M. and began searching houses. On this occasion the houses were unoccupied. At first we were baffled but then we heard it. It was Samuel who first heard the church organ playing only a short distance away, in the town square. With Samuel, one of our flammenwerfer operators in the lead we walked into the church with service in full swing.
It didn't take long for them to notice us, especially since our squad leader shot several bullets into the roof. They did not react as usual, no screams, no cries of fear.
One of them approached us and said that he understood that they were under the CGYI's purview and that we were welcome to search any and all of the buildings for contraband or possible rebels. Our SL looked at the man and then looked over the collected group of civilians before asking if they knew who we were. The man nodded and confirmed that he knew of the Black Spots.
Our SL nodded, and walked out instructing us to follow. We closed the door and he ordered us to prepare fragmentation grenades to throw through the church windows and for the flammenwerfer operators to begin firing into the church's door once the grenades went off. Several of us protested but in the end we are to follow our superiors orders, irregardless of our personal thoughts on the matter at hand.
We did as were told. The civilians that lived through the grenades going off screamed. It wouldn't stop until the entire place had burned down. Samuel, for the first time in the entirety of me knowing him, removed his gas mask and tossed off his gear.
He screamed at our SL and lunged for him. He grabbed our SL by the throat and began strangling him, having knocked our SL's pistol from his hands. It was Fritz who executed him, a shot straight through the head. He told us that our place was to follow orders not mutiny, if we had a complaint tell command back at base.

And so here we are sir. He ordered us to commit things that I can only classify as crimes. That incident went against every single protocol for that kind of situation. I know that if he knew of this report he would surely eliminate me, as I know he has done to several other members of this squad. I only make this report at your personal request, and I ask that if it is used in a trial against him that I be notified in time to prepare for the proceedings, or any inevitable other outcomes.

Yours truly as both friend and comrade
William S. Masterson

The history books would portray the nations allied against the CGYI as saints fighting monsters, but as is oft to happen in history the transgressions of the saints dissappeared.
---
Sargent, and commanding officer of the advanced recon squad on this assignment, Charles T. Xsavier looked at his men and said "Let me make this clear. There are no soldiers in that town but you are going to kill everything and everyone in it. We'll show these dogs the hell they've put our fellows through."
The men looked at him with a mixture of fear and aprhension. The man who'd gotten them this assignment did it to fullfil his own vendetta.
--32 hours later--
Private Vincent Monroe of Advanced Recon Squad Fifty One
Reporting Sargent Charles T. Xsavier

He ordered us to kill everything and everyone, so we did. We follow orders despite personal feelings on them. Charles has turned into a monster. He gunned down the innocent farmers and their families.
He had us burn down their houses, destroy the crops, and then bury the bodies in mass graves. Then he threatened his squad members.
I've known him pretty much my entire military career and he was a good man, wife and kids. But something happened, a gas shell hit a place it wasn't supposed to. His entire family dead because of a mishap.
That's why tonight happened and it's why I'm afraid he is unfit for duty. He was a good comrade, but I cannot in good conscious continue to hold my tongue concerning his crimes.

Alright I'm almost done reading this, and I'm wondering. Could I do an RP with your approval, maybe we could bounce some ideas off each other about this.

I really like the setting, and I'd love to play in, or GM it. Also quick question: This is mostly about the Tesla Cannon. I'm assuming here that the Tesla Cannon is similar to a Demolition's Man (Read as: Bazooka or Rocket Launcher Soldier) role in the field. Given how clunky you make it sound (connectors, a charge pack). So am I reading that right?

Spoiler:  IDK why I feel I need to respond to critique but here's a response if you care to read (hover to show)

And in response to AJ
Feel free to make an RP about it if you want, after all that was the initial purpose, to set up a back drop for an RP. PM me if you've got any questions you need me to answer.
There are a couple different kind of Tesla weapons, but they could most certainly work as a bazooka, though it would just fry everything in the tank and probably set off the explosives.

Alright I finished reading all you have written so far, really an excellent job. I can get a grasp on how desperate both sides are in the war, going so far as to commit atrocities to get the one up, along with suicidal gas rushes (if I read the blitzkrieg sounding parts right). Really excellent Vulnus.

Going to start a bit of a series in this from a soldiers perspective.
----------------------------------
Road to Holdenberg Square part 1: Shots Fired

We're soldiers of the United Isles of The Kingdom, ready to sacrifice our lives for the crown. But even the most hardened soldiers would have second thoughts if they had been put into our boots. We were marching for Holdenberg, or as we called it 'The Iron Fortress'. No assault, no matter how big, had taken it. And so many of us were fresh recruits straight out of boot camp.

Ryan sat in the truck, keeping himself busy inspecting his standard issue rifle. The others were doing similar, trying to keep their minds off of the upcoming battle that would most likely cut their numbers in half. But there was only so many times a man could read the same serial number before he went insane. Idly Ryan pulled out his notebook and began writing, trying to keep from the insanity that he felt so close to.
'Right out of boot camp and I got loaded into a canvas covered truck and handed my equipment. I knew that I would be sent straight into combat but I had hoped to be able to send a letter to my family before moving out.' He wrote down, then closed the book and put it back in his bag. He would have more to write later, but this bumpy road was giving him trouble writing.
Oh well, back to reading the serial number.
--6 hours later--
Ryan had just put his canteen back into his bag when he heard a deafening explosion and then felt the entire truck tip over onto it's side, tossing everyone in the back to the ground. Ryan landed on his shoulder and felt pain shoot through his arm, but he forced himself to his feet and scrambled to grab his rifle that had been flung a few feet from him.
He grabbed it as the first shots rang out and he heard one of his fellows scream  in pain. Ryan finally got hold of his weapon and turned to see a group of CGYI soldiers in their grey uniforms firing at the United Isles of the Kingdom soldiers. Ryan ran back to the truck for cover as one of the enemy started to track him. The rifle bullet tore through the air and missed Ryan as he took cover behind the toppled truck.
Ryan checked to make sure a round was chambered before leaning out of cover and lining up one of the enemy in his sights. He pulled the trigger and felt the butt of the rifle push against his shoulder as the shot screamed through the air and tore the targets head open, right between the eyes. Ryan worked the lever on his rifle and then sent another shot that tore into the stomach of a second enemy before he ducked back into cover as the enemy returned fire.
Ryan worked the lever again as he heard several of his fellow soldiers yelling and firing their weapons. Ryan leaned out of cover again and fired a shot at the enemy, watching as the wave of bullets from his allies tore into the enemy squad and left the rest of the enemy lying on the ground, dead or wounded. Ryan shouted "Okay, someone check the driver!" and then rushed towards the bodies of the enemy.
Most of them were on the ground dead but Ryan saw a few that were only wounded. The other soldiers with him looked at each other and one of them said "I don't see any wounded, how about you boys?"
Ryan looked at him and said "I do, now come on let's get these guys tied up and patched up, they could have some intel we could use."
The other soldiers nodded, what Ryan had said made sense. And since the CO was unconcious at least someone was taking the lead. They grabbed the enemy wounded and picked them up before bringing them to the medic. Ryan walked over to the two men who had pulled the driver out of the cab. "How is he?"
"Unconcious but okay other then that. CO is took a bullet to the shoulder but our medic got him patched up, he got knocked out when the truck threw him head first into the road." One of them said.
Ryan nodded absently, the adrenaline he had felt earlier wearing off. He walked over to the side of the road and puked his lunch onto the dirt. Several of the other new recruits were doing similar, having never killed a person before and having never seen that kind of blood and gore. Ryan stood up, his stomach having emptied itself of it's contents, and walked over to the medic. "You gonna be able to save these guys?"
The medic sighed "Much as I wish I wasn't obligated to try a couple of them look to be in good shape and should survive."
Ryan nodded. One hell of a first day he thought, then walked to the now waking CO.
