Utterly Mad

The story of a War is always told by the Victor
He fires into the horde of oncoming opponents with his Hornet Rifle, to no avail. He would then begin to retreat into the nearby building, still firing his rifle. He runs through the door way and slams it shut, then runs for the back of the building, sounds of the enemy banging the door. He runs past two men who look at him as he runs to a device they know means death for them all.
They silently move to the front and fire at the enemy who breaks the door down.
The story of a War is always told by the Victor, and so we see the tale of this soldier.
He activated the device, going through the complicated process of verifying his identity and authorization, then initiating it. He turned as the onrushing foes broke through the other soldiers and fired. but they overrun him, and he was not alive to see the beam scream down from the sky and obliterate the building, the block, and the rest of the city. It eradicated the enemy, and the few remaining soldiers gave their lives to remove a threat to humanity.
