Dark Skylines
« on: January 12, 2016, 12:47:07 am »
City 23, also know as Piety, was a bustling metropolis twenty years ago. It's tall building stretched high into the sky as citizens went about their day. However a pandemic that humanity was never equipped for emerged far below these high raises. Here the carnage was enough to seal the city off from the outside world, cutting the survivors from power, water, and heat. The survivors fled into these 200 story apartment complexes and sealed themselves off from the outside world by destroying the stairs behind them. But as their supplies ran low, those with the ability to run across the weakening rooftops kept these places supplied. Now it is twenty years later and as the supplies run thin, these survivors fought amongst themselves. But below them lies a beast, waiting for flesh to fall from the sky to feed their unending hunger.

This is the world you find yourself, where a single slip can send you falling hundreds of feet into a pit of gnashing teeth and rending claws. But you know that as the supplies running out, you'll have to search closer and closer to the Bottoms. To cope with this, most communities accept cannibalism as a common practice to help add even out the food supplied by the roof top gardens. Still, you know that even if you were to wipe out every single Afflicted from the city that this would not hold forever. It was then that the first thing from outside world played over the Dorm radio...

The Classes

Each character belongs to one of the three classes of Piety. As you advance in levels you gain perks and skills that you can level which will allow you to do some pretty interesting shit later on.

The Arbiter: Large, heavy, and decked in armor from head to toe. They specialize in close combat with their large makeshift shields made from car doors or large street signs. However they are very slow are very poor on their feet.

The Scavvie: When you need to find part and the same bastard to build the damn thing, you get a Scavvie. Wearing light to medium armor this guy is good at ranged weapons such as the battery launcher and the Impaler.

The Runner: Fastest people of the colony who are able to get around the easiest. They wear no armor and little clothing to make sure they lose little speed. They prefer to stay out of combat but if they are spotted use whatever is on hand.

Yeah, I've had this idea for awhile and was about to post it. Then Dying Light launched its trailer and completely fucking pissed me off. So I waited till the hype died down.

Also yes, the description includes clothing and armor as well. Also Runners don't wear shirts Wilson.

Name:Zaweri Runewright
Class:Scavvie
Age:17
Physical Description:Fairly muscular for a Scavvie of his age, Zaweri wears a pair of jeans, broken at multiple spots, a tank top, and a leather jacket. He also wears a old heavily repaired riot helmet given to him by his father on his dying breath. (His father had looted it before the zombies went all apeshit. His father classified as an Arbiter, while his mother was a Runner.) He also wears a pair of improvised shoes, mostly constructed out of cloth and tape of all sorts.

Days since The Wall: 7,251
Current year: 2183

Time: 07:21 AM

The silence of the early morning dorms was shattered as the foreign broadcast blared over the radio. The players are awoken with a startle as a few people trickle into the dorm room and begin murmuring.

The radio plays: "85 110 105 116 32 79 110 101 32 105 110 32 112 111 115 105 116 105 111 110 44 32 112 114 111 99 101 101 100 32 116 111 32 97 99 116 105 118 97 116 105 111 110 32 115 105 116 101 32 97 110 100 32 97 119 97 105 116 32 102 111 114 32 102 117 114 116 104 101 114 32 111 114 100 101 114 115 46. 65 99 116 105 118 97 116 105 111 110 32 115 105 116 101 32 105 115 32 105 110 32 116 104 101 32 78 111 114 116 104 101 114 110 32 81 117 97 114 116 101 114 44 32 105 110 115 105 100 101 32 116 104 101 32 111 108 100 32 67 108 105 109 97 116 101 32 67 111 110 116 114 111 108 32 83 116 97 116 105 111 110 46."

Whatever that hell those numbers mean, you each have a job to do. Today you must head out on a resource run toward the old Shopping Center which will take most of the day.

Paxton's Squad Inventory:
2 Battery Launchers (It shoots batteries fast enough to put a hole through you)
1 Spiker (It's a hand-crossbow)
A table Leg with nails
Enough rations for 1 day.
There is probably no more terrible instance of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.

Paxton, despite being expedition leader, awakes a bit later than everyone else, catching only the last few numbers as he rubs the sleep from his eyes. He tilts his head and raises a brow at the radio, a small shrug following these gestures, before rolling off the patched air mattress that serves as his bed and standing as tall as he can, a big smile on his face.

"Well now, y'all know what's on today's schedule!" He beams. With a quick glance, it's obvious he was sleeping in the equipment he's wearing out today... "Scav day! We're off, gents! Come on, get yer shite packed and loaded, travel light, you know the drill!"

Paxton's hand gingerly pulls his prized Spiker off the nearby table of supplies, his grey eyes looking it over. A beautiful little weapon, really. Light, but the high-tension cord means it packs a real punch, and the bolts are easily constructed with wood or plastic shafts, and heads built with anything from nails to ceramic shards to thick copper wire.

Zaweri stretches as he rises up from his makeshift bed. He grabs one of the battery launchers.
I'd prefer my rapier, but it needs to do...
He walks over to the rest of the squad.

Kleo gets up a dreamless sleep, he sits up from rollmat and stretches. He walks over to a medium sized metal box inside his room, inside is various knick-knacks and other things, he grabs his Battery Launcher along with a pouch with some dead batteries. He loads the 'Launcher with batteries. He walks out of his dorm and heads to where the group is about to disembark.

Garren rolls back, then jumps off his bedroll and onto his feet, grabbing the table leg from the pile.  "WHOO!  Let's steal shit but not be illegal about it!"

With the group assembled the only thing left to decide was the route to take to the old Shopping Complex. There were two ways taken, both with their own unique problems and challenges.

The quickest way would be to head five buildings west and then cross the 100 foot bridge to cross the street. The end of the bridge is a popular site of ambush. Afterward the team would have to go 5 buildings north.

The longer way is to go 10 buildings east and then make your way through the old sky bridge inside the college. The site though is known to harbor the occasional Afflicted.
