Backstory: Michael was born into the business of beating down unruly customers of the mob. His father like himself was American, but the Family paid well enough that not being able to advance wasn't really a downside. Michael was enforcing for the mob by age 16, and was pushing product by age 20. All of that work got him considerable injuries, you know multiple stab and gunshot wounds over the years, including a knife that stabbed through his cheek and nearly broke two of his teeth. He's been on painkillers for a long time, with the mob keeping it 'legal' thanks to some doctors that were in the family's pocket.
