While I usually know what this 'something' is, and often see it, sometimes I don't and I'm just aware that it's there or it's been following me previously in the dream until I've eventually been trapped in with it by my friend, occasionally I'm rescued by someone else but usually not.

Hmm it might mean that you feel you can't trust your friends?

Nah, I've been well aware that I can't trust them for a long time, the friend that locks me in places to get me killed is the one I trust most out of all of them though.
