Utterly Mad

Have you ever considered getting a middle man to sell dragon fire proof suits of armor to valorous knights, just so you can force the knights to realize at the last moment that while the armor IS fire proof, that protection doesn't actually extend itself to the wearer and then having the armor cleaned up and resold to another dumb-yet-valorous knight?

I only ask because I once knew a dragon who did that. He lived to a very ripe old age conning idiotic warriors like that. They would come stomping up the mountain to his lair and he would burn them and have his hired man clean the armor and repair any dints the fool who owned it last put in it. A recall a small village formed at the base of his mountain whose sole income stream was from selling supplies to the traveling heroes. All told, the dragon got along quiet well with the village what with the profits from his scam being such that he didn't need to extort them. I only know this because I spent some time in the village myself in the days when I still needed to steal corpses.
