Well, I mean, I know, I've been gone for a long time. Might not have as much insight as the next guy who's been here the whole time, but I'm still feelin' pretty strongly about it. Bleh, bottom line, I don't like the whole inclusion of the Abyss and such, for a few reasons.
Firstly, I mean, sure, it's in another section, that's all fine and dandy, but it's not exactly far. Newcomers, while they might be interested in all the other stuff, boom, one click, gore, pr0n, and gore-pr0n, all up in their face. I don't think it puts a good foot forward for any visitors.
Secondly, a slightly more worrying topic. Well, just say, this doesn't make less people join. Say it makes more people join. Specifically, the kinda people who join a forum for f-ed up ****e like that. Personally, I don't like either prospect. The whole thing seems a little unnecessary. If you want ****, there's forums specifically for it. Other people might not be entirely comfortable with the whole thing on their site, even in another section, and some of 'em have actually told me so, so far.

Just, okay I'm not sure what's meant here. You say 'on their site', is this people who run websites or members of (lets be honest here) this site?
And if they do have that problem, not that I don't believe you man, but I'd like to see them actually say they have a problem with it.

Man, I'm just having trouble getting with everything. Just, what the hell? I feel like I've always tried to compromise without stating many of my own opinions. Censorship on CDDA? Don't care. Moving to a new forum? Sure, why not, I like people who stayed, but I like you guys more. But just, a section, completely devoted to what the members of this community get off to? Argh.

First off: Lorknis, just, argh trying to be civil. Literally my interpretation is 'I don't care about your opinion so I'm not taking it into consideration' so it irks me just...trying to be civil. he has valid points, it does not make us look too good, but hey whatever I've stated I don't care because I don't go there but for christs sake man don't just discard someone's opinion.
Second off: I understand that Forrest and I actually agree with you, however I also realize that it's a sub section that I don't have to participate in. also I think it should kind of be hidden from guests, not as a 'this is something you only get as a member' thing but more a 'yeah we got it but we don't openly advertise it' kind of thing.

I, too, have a problem with the Abyss being here. I get that you guys really want to keep that whole "freedom to post whatever you want", but with the kind of stuff that's getting posted in the subforum, I'm afraid it's turning newcomers away. I agree with pretty much all of what Forrest is saying on this issue.
I don't know what we should do about the Abyss, but I do feel like it shouldn't be on the front page. It's just... Weird being there. Kind of like an "Utterly Mad After Dark" forum, not the kind of thing you slap onto the front page and call it dandy.

Suggestion: Have the Abyss be a kinda user group. Normal Members, Abyss Members, then Mods/Admins. You can apply for Abyss membership after signing up.
Until you're part of that user group, Abyss is invisible or locked out. I know it's possible on other forums, unsure about this one.

I'm just personally against it, in addition to the reasons I had. Don't like the idea, whatever, just opinions. There's other sites for that, that are actually made specifically for it, unlike this one.

But to clarify, at least my opinion, that censorship we so heavily disagreed with concerned humor and creative endeavors(including RPs) and not 'hey let's make a place to put all of our pron' so I understand why some people (In this case: Forrest and myself) don't like that we have an area where that's essentially the purpose.
Dusty's idea seems good, but unsure if we could implement it, though I'm fairly sure we could make it where guests can't see it.

Well, I mean, back on the CDDA forums, the only complaints expressed were really towards verbal censorship, predominantly because no one was posting......well, pr0n and full-on gore, and I dunno why there's suddenly a big craze for all that, never came up before.

Its pretty ****ed up in the Abyss. But that was the intent, that gore was in general discussion. Its like white blood cells for the internet.

And I thought that some parts of the Abyss would make this particularly obvious, but okay, I think of people burning alive/pics of open, bleeding wounds and a dogman cumming gallons in the ass of a cowman are things that probably don't belong here.
I doubt such things were the original intent of this place.

yeah I didn't get why it blew up until I remembered something from over there: There's a rule expressly forbidding any kind of sexual content at all.(another reason GTA should have gotten banned before he left since he left two threads about sexually oriented games....)
So we come here and we realize 'we make the rules' and people go crazy and shit. I don't like that kind of stuff so I didn't participate but some of the members like it so whatever. I don't think we should really be spreading that kind of stuff but I'd rather have it all in a specific area I can avoid then all over.
Also yes, gore should not be allowed. I can stomach some amazing shit when it comes to some things but I saw a couple things that made me want to vomit.

Sorry I wasn't around, I've been a bit busy latey.
So the idea of the Abyss was one that we were unsure of from the start, specifically I was unsure since I first suggested the idea to the other staff, so technically it's my fault. However to compromise we decided we would put up a poll on it, and the majority vote at the time agreed to having a separate 'safe' area, which is what The Pit is intended to be and then The Abyss, where we would relax the rules, would allow NSFW stuff to be a little more direct.
The idea of hiding it away from newcomers is the best idea, in my opinion, since the idea I had for The Abyss originally was for it to be as rule free as possible, to allow people to express themselves in ways even the somewhat already relaxed rules didn't allow, but that was going to inevitably end up with 'questionable' stuff being posted there. When Lurker appeared it gave the perfect reason for us to need something like The Abyss, since gore is, honestly, an artistic expression, yet it's one that is unpleasant to most people, so we need somewhere to allow people to put that and keep it away from everyone else. I did attempt to make a post giving warning of what's in The Abyss, maybe it's not clear enough or I need to write the warning a bit better?
Sure, you're allowed to disagree with it, and by all means, express your opinions of it, that's exactly what we want. We want to make sure we're doing things right and keeping as much of the community happy as possible. We can't make everyone happy all the time and we're aware of that, but the unhappy part of the community definitely should let us know exactly why they're unhappy with things. And if you did read the original poll post on the topic, I stated that we may decide The Abyss was a bad idea and remove it, but my personal opinion is that it has its place, maybe we should just alter it a little bit.
I don't think this has really been in danger of becoming a shitstorm, Forrest raised an issue with the forum, as we want the community to do when they have one, and it's been discussed pretty politely so far, and we've come up with what I consider to be at least a partial solution to the problem.
With the whole rule issue, if anyone has any suggestions on things they'd like to see change then feel free to let us know, from what I'm gathering people want a change to us allowing gore in The Pit, which technically we don't now that we have The Abyss but I think we just sort of didn't think about it, so that should be changed.

I am wholeheartedly against the gore, especially when it's kids that is just screwed up. I can stomach it unlike Peri it's just... wrong. I don't believe gore is really art it's just morbid.
Pr0n though who cares? I know not a good idea for newcomers but a considerable few users have posted in it. Hell I posted the Doge porn, mostly as a joke, but I did it. Pr0n is art, just of a more sexualized nature, but as with all art it has bad art pr0n is the same but just more crappily made ones than good ones.

At the time of writing this I am not entirely sober, what I've written may not actually reflect my true views on the topic and some of those views may be misccomunicated, so until I confirm anything while in a sober state of mind take none of this as actual proof of my opinion, just a rough guideline
Okay so I more or less agree with Vulnus, honestly, he's being the voice of absolute reason here.
The Abyss was created by community poll and if it should be ended, then it should be by community poll. Remember that listening to the community is what we're about as moderator staff.
However, I must admit that I very strongly support the idea of The Abyss, maybe my opinion of it is skewed, concerning the gore, I've witnessed things worst than most of whats been posted, so I'm not the slightest bit affected by it, I'm absolutely desensitised and can't truly understand the perspective of having an issue with it, I also have almost the same issue with p0rn and sexual content, it just doesn't affect me.
There's also the fact that I see gore and p0rn as both artistic and personal expressions, which prevents us from removing it from the forum entirely, and that's something I'm somewhat adamant about and honestly I can admit I'm not willing to really back down from because I don't see this forum as a place for artistic/personal expression that we allow because some people aren't comfortable with anything more, I see this forum as a place for absolutely any kind of expression in any forum, with ultimately no limits because people should be free to safely express themselves however they want.
The issue is that not everyone is comfortable with that and we also have the issue of people who are maybe not quite prepared for or too sensetive to what's in The Abyss will not be okay with what's there since that's where we allow people to completely express themselves. Although considering that there is the point of 'just don't look at it and it doesn't affect you, it's entirely optional content really' and you should have read the warning posted in The Abyss before going into any of the threads, which lets you know porn and gore will be there, it sounds maybe harsh but it's your fault for not reading it or ignoring it, not anyone elses, you were informed of what would be tnere and we are more than happy to take any possible measures to prevent people from accidentally stumbling across a GIF of a man burning to death, but if you ignore the warnings then it's not our fault, it's yours.
The best option really, and if I'm honest the only one I'd feel truly happy with and would absolutely 100% support without any complaint is finding ways of preventing people from accidentally stumbling upon the more 'questionable' content which they're warned of anyway, because to be honest you sort of don't have a position to argue from if gore/P0rnn is.not easily accessable, the point of this forum is uncensored expression in any way, and that's probably how I imagine the staff in general will want it.
Now at the end of this, I'm going to clearly state, yet again At the time of writing this I am not entirely sober, what I've written may not actually reflect my true views on the topic and some of those views may be misccomunicated, so until I confirm anything while in a sober state of mind take none of this as actual proof of my opinion, just a rough guideline

I should've really clarified that I don't think all of it is, that particular bit isn't art, it's war.
Most a lot of the images, the staged ones, are what I consider art, since you know, they've been intentionally done like that, but videos and images of actual people being mutilated or killed, no that's not art and there's probably a major issue with you if you actually find that part artistic, which yet again, isn't the part I see as art and I should have been clear about that.

For ****s sake just rename me the "Poll Master" because no one really contacts me of my- I'll **** about how much i feel like a user then a mod due to me being both lazy and busy as **** these last couple of days (IE: Read busy as family drama, and my computer is on a giant ass TV so the whole Abyss things hasn't really been one of the thins I want to tackle out of fear that my family or parents will find me looking over the section for mod review.).
Alright so back on the point, I've just skimmed the last few pages and got the basic gist.
Some people find that we're stretching the boundaries of what could be classified as 'censorship' and what could be classified as 'decency'. While others that have been to some ****ed places on the net aren't bothered by this **** at all, and let me cut to the chase.
Normally I'm neutral on these things, the **** thread didn't bother me, I thought it was weird that we were so open about 'stimulation' outside of jokes; but I let it pass me by with no problem. Then Lurker showed up in his 2edgy4u glory (which part of me both loves and hates), to where what he posted violated most of our common decency I mean holy **** when you see a [REDACTED] get set on fire with a ****ing flamethrower can we draw a line.
I've been meaning to post something about this, but everytime I get around to making a goddamned write up my life goes to **** or something happens, and since I'm slacking off today to give the forum some sweet-sweet AJ love. I'll finally post my thoughts on this ****.
Is the Abyss ta- Yes it is. Everytime I log on here, I wonder if I made the right decision by telling the CDDA devs to practically go **** themselves with one of the "politically correct edible baby fetuses" (yet the abortion clinic is too far hrmm?); because I wonder if we went to far in our 'pride war', mainly due to how no holds barred it is on this forum. I could post a video of some dude chopping his dick into pieces and deep frying it in The Abyss, and no one would probably bat an eye until someone finally speaks up. I wonder if we made the wrong decision back in CDDA due to how we're acting now, we're practically proving the "Koo-Koo for CocoPuffs" devs right with all the **** we've let slip by the radar for "FREEDOM OF SPEECH".
I left CDDA so that my naughty misogynistic curse words weren't redacted out (ironic as that is considering how ****ing swearing is a premium feature), not so we could turn into Mini4Chan... 2Chan if you will. And yes, handdrawn p0rn in a sense is still art, it takes technique, skills, and knowledge of anatomy.. that being said though its still kinda taboo to be so open about what we enjoy; and is really ****ing akward when you pass the 'p0rn' thread while browsing the forum in a public place.
The Abyss was a compromise to this, but it wasn't a really good compromise since many people can still see it and if you posted there (say for a joke) then you get regular updates (I'm straight, and yet I get updates to the Gay Furry **** thread... mainly because I'm a curious dumb@ss who thought it was a joke.), and it seems that most people have a problem with The Abyss just existing. And the main problem here seems to be the **** sharing part of this, and **** as an art form which is a whole other discussion.
So why not just get rid of The Abyss and replace it with "Lovers Lounge" or something similar focused on sexual topics and discussion. And have the "Lovers Lounger" just be hidden to all viewers unless they get whitelisted to view and post there.

I've been meaning to say something for a long time, but these past few months have been busy. Our house is going through renovations and decorations, computers and TVs are getting replaced after 7+ years, and I'm trying to get my life together even though my highschool credits are so fucked that I have to do another senor year; only this time it won't be in this online school from hell.

I think there is, some people have been silent on the matter. Just because you broadcast your opinions and your active about saying, attacking, defending, etc... doesn't mean that you have everyone rallying to your cause. There might still be a silent majority (because we're such a "big" group).
That and I ain't voting because I didn't add a compromise option to the Poll, AND THE POLL MUSTN'T BE CHANGED AS IT WOULD VIOLATE THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS OR SOMETHING.

That's assuming we're not using a "first past the post" system, which is what's just absolutely ruined Britain, but that's another topic.
We should leave it open until more people have voted, 15 is hardly representative of the nearly 50 members we have so it would be unfair to base it upon what a small fraction of the community wants.

I have a plan for the abyss. We split it into two chunks, the doge cape, and Lovers Lagoon. The former being for the current abyss shenanigans and the latter for sexual topics. We will remove the seperate abyss subsection and bolt it into the pit. Both areas will require white listing if you want in, but will otherwise be hidden.
