I'm still going to buy it. And probably love it to bits, because who plays bethsoft games for the story.
Me. I'm sick of that being the one argument people use to defend Bethsofts sometimes horrible or bland writing, I will agree they can craft beautiful worlds with some crazy deep lore. But how come the stories I read in the books in these games or in the terminals is several times more interesting then the story or writing as a whole.
There's a reason why I haven't streamed Skyrim again, because I cannot get back into it no matter how much I mod it. If you want me to waste hours of my life grinding away levels, getting skills, and basically doing a chorelist; either the writing better be fucking good, or what I'm doing should be more interesting then "Go here and get me a radio transistor because I can't hear my radio dramas.", or at least make the fetch quest fun by sending me on a fubar mission where I fight in some exotic locale.
I mean almost 90% of New Vegas's quests were fetch quests (pretty funny how that is since you play as a pissed off vengeful Mailman), but what saved it for me was the writing of the characters and I didn't realize how literally every quest is a fetch quest until I started streaming it and watching people play it.
Hell half the sidequests in Fallout 3 were well-written and filled with character like the vampire mission or the ones that sent you to go retrieve items deep within DC. Because the locales were interesting, scary, and sometimes just plan cool.
I just want the main quest to at least be fulfilling instead of the wet fart that was Skyrim's story, at least in Fallout 3 people fucking acknowledged you if you were a bastard or a hero. I want what I'm doing to have serious consequences or some form of punishment or reward if I chose something, I don't want what I do to be a throw away line that some retarded guard uses with his other canned dialogue that makes fun of you.
Fallout 4 is basically STALKER in America during the retro-future 50s, its a FPS focusing more on exploration and gunfights with the primary means of upgrading being through use of special items like clothes and bobbleheads (artifacts) with a excellent perk system that will probably be better to what their aiming for. I just hope there will be mods that add back in the more RPGy elements.
