Clockwork Empires is released out of EA. How disappointing. Don't bother. 30$ is far too much, and though I like Gaslamp Games and their first game "Dungeons of Dredmor," but the fact that I like them and their first game doesn't mean clockwork empires is any good.

After doing the helios one quest in new vegas for the hundredth time and then then replacing the arrays at nellis airforce base, something only now occurred to me: Why is helios one using photo-voltaic cells? It isn't that kind of power plant. There are two kinds of solar electric methods that I know of. The first is Photo-voltaic. This kind of panel absorbs sunlight and converts it directly into electricity. Nellis Airforce Base, in new vegas, is equipped with this kind of solar array. The other kind, the kind on display at helios one, is "Concentrated Solar Power." This is when light is reflected onto a large boiler to create steam, which drives a turbine inside the tower. The panels at power plants like helios one are simple curved mirrors which, once aligned properly, concentrate and reflect sunlight onto the tower in the center. Another thing is, if these panels from Nellis are photo-voltaic, why are they curved? A Photo-voltaic cell is usually flat to catch the sun squarely, set (in expensive set ups) on a motorized mount to track the sun as it makes it's daily journey across the sky.

My only explanation is, "It works because science fiction! Don't think about it too hard" and that these are fancy Poseidon Energy brand photo-voltaic reflecting mirrors, and that's good enough for me.
