...I blame typo imps. But yeah, I basically smacked the lasher around a bit and caught a punch.

Now, I'm gonna commit !!SCIENCE!! as to whether iron will slay the bronze bugger.
Bronze is the superior material, iron is easier to make and nearly as good, but not quite. So you killing him with an iron weapon is not likely. You need some Stahl.
Thanks Peri for making me question muh sexualities once again.

Odd, because bronze has a better SHEAR_YIELD, while iron has a better SHEAR_FRACTURE. At least in-game. Both proved useless against it, without cheating. And I can't get ye flask Stahl because no dwarves generated.

Also, first non-Sixpost comment I get when I open an issue explaining the Arcana mod fuckups I figured out in an hour? The guy who made the PR that fucked up silver athames, questioning the idea that use_actions tied into crafting qualities can interfere with use_actions of active items.

Yeah no shit, I just explained the fuckup in my opening post and said how to fix it. Glad to see that half a year since I stopped being a contributor, and I still got it. :V

  • Probably okay.

IIRC with my limited metallurgy knowledge, Iron isn't all that much harder than Bronze, the main difference is that it's less flexible, it's why Iron itself is largely useless in comparison, there's no reason to not use Bronze or Steel instead.

Makes sense that Iron wouldn't kill something made of Bronze but Steel will.

Peri's mostly got it, but it depends alot on what type of iron and what type of bronze you're talking about. Properly worked bronze is about as "good" as decently worked high-carbon iron (we'll call it quasi-steel). Cast bronze (more common in the Bronze Age) is not quite as good as cast iron. Both will hold a nice edge, but the bronze will shatter more easily than the iron, assuming you apply equal force to both.

In game terms, I think it's fairly safe to assume bronze is well worked, wheras the iron has little to no carbon content that doesn't occur naturally - that's what in game steel is. So, in that sense, the bronze should actually be superior to the iron.

Historically, the big shift from bronze to iron happened because of logistics. You need copper and tin to make bronze, and it's a little more labour intensive, wheras you just need iron to have iron, not because the iron available was "better". When different methods of introducing carbon (also plentiful) into the iron came around, iron and steel became both less labour intensive and resource dependent than bronze, as well as "better" for pretty much any application.

Either way, neither of them was enough to remove the bronze colossus. Now, I should see how milord reacts when I mention I killed the lord of the hamlet they're skirmishing with.

I'm trying to figure out a new game to get to combat my video game apathy. Anyone have any suggestions? Ideally not graphically intensive as I'm too lazy to fix my proper gaming PC.

Also, is Stellaris any good?
Gone. Cheers guys.

I'm tempted to suggest AM2R. just beat it with...54 health left. Holy hell that last fight was close.

I'm not good at platformers, so I'd better try it. Nothing like horrible death to kill time.

I'm not that good at platforming either, and yet I somehow managed. And good. No idea if their mirrors are still intact, and only decent one when I got it was one that forced you to watch an ad in French. :V

I just used the handy dropbox provided. Seems to have downloaded right. Now if I can drag myself away from looking at steam queues for a minute I can see if it will install.
Gone. Cheers guys.

Fun fact, a blacksmith I met when I first started with metal working used marshmellows to add carbon to the steel he was working with.

That would be because it's my dropbox, not one of their mirrors.

On the one hand, that sounds awesome. On the other hand, what a waste of marshmallows. Reminds me though, of the idea where you try to forge with bronze instead of casting it. Any idea how difficult it is? :V

Not difficult. Casting can make getting the piece in the general shape you want it first though. Work a bar of bronze into a tool, or cast a "blank" out of bronze and then finish it in the forge to make a tool. The trouble comes because the bronze melts at around a thousand degrees cooler temp than iron does. Unfortunately for bronze, the point at which it starts to glow from the heat, (forging temp for iron) is just short of the temp required to melt it, so forging it has to be done as guess work. It all depends on the material makeup of the bronze though. The more tin there is in the bronze, the lower it's melting temp will be. Bronze actually has a lower melting point than just plain copper. A thing I know for sure though, I prefer aluminum bronze. It has around the same melting point as straight copper, it's typically stronger, and it's far more corrosion resistant than normal bronze or brass. It's also a gorgeous material when worked into jewellery.

And hnnng. I swear, I go and find yet more issues with CDDA when I take a closer look. Arcana structures don't seem to be showing up, nor are the two main isolated structures from the More Locations mod. Someone claimed that mapgen weight affects the odds of a structure appearing, but back in my day it only affected which mapgen gets picked when multiple by the same ID are available (like with houses).

EDIT: Nope. Ye talking shite laddy, changing the weights did nothing.
