Computer Talk
« on: November 27, 2015, 07:18:34 pm »
To make this thread not useless after my question is answered this can also be a general discussion about computers I guess.

So, my parents are planning on getting me a computer/ giving me a chunk of funds for a computer and they want to know what specs I am aiming for. The thing is I am not quite sure of the specs I will want for a decent computer. Though I would like a computer that is actually good enough to run Brutal Legend, Killing Floor 2, Payday 2, State of Decay, and Dark Souls comfortably at a decent quality so those games on my Steam library were not a waste of money. Though it would nice to be higher for when I buy more intensive games. So I was wondering if anyone knows what specs I should be aiming for. I know I would at least want one or two terabytes for hard drive space.

Okay, what kind of a budget are you looking at? I will try to get a build for you for under a 1000$ default.

EDIT:

This build will run new releases too, and probably will for another 3-4 years, at least. Most likely longer if you can handle toning down the gfx.
You can slap an SSD on there for an extra 50-100$ to install an OS on, if you want to. (The build doesnt include the cost of the OS, mind you.)

1000$ is a respectable budget, just remember to allow for some wiggle room on that though. The laptop I use is a dell which cost 1100$ (before tax) and came out in 2011. A non laptop PC shouldn't cost as much and will be more powerful. Dell is alright, but at least look around for something else. My laptop has many broken external bits. case, bezel, etc. and I've had to replace the various components of the power cord several times, I replaced the hard drive and the keyboard, and also the screen. except for the screen, all the damaged or burned out bits were due to no fault of mine. It's was more Dell's shoddy build quality. I only bring this up to say, try to go for something more durable than a dell. Someday I will get a new one, but for now Ill just keep replacing parts on this broom until it isn't the same broom anymore.

Dell is the best laptop brand. (If you look at how well they get set on fire compared to other brands.)

yeh, I got it because I wanted to play skyrim and it was the cheapest available. The fact that it can run newer games (except wolfenstien; the new order) impresses me greatly.

Yeah, my parents refuse to let me buy individual parts because some bullshit that I might never finish it or it will take months.
I am probably going to want to get a laptop, what with college coming up and everything, if it is possible.
