Depends on the child.
One may decide that if their family doesnt know then there is nothing there to know.
One may decide that if the family doesn't know then someone must and go to search for answers.
One may just invent new knowledge and start a group.

 It really just depends.

Then the family member, instead of saying "I don't know", could encourage the child who asked the question to come to their own conclusions using available information. Thus, the parent doesn't push the child in any direction as to what to believe, therefore making it avoidable.

The childs background still determines what information IS available.

And he will come to the conclusion that makes the most sense to him based on that conclusion. Still better than indoctrination.

My kid gets supplied with whatever accurate (or at least not completely bullshit) information is available from which to draw her own conclusions. I'm flawed in many ways and do not think I should form opinions for her, and think that had I been given that sort of opportunity, I'd be less flawed.

Should check out discordianism. I felt the same way but have always been "spiritual"(to use the hippy term). Hailing Eris just seems to fit that mindset much better than a real religion.
Gone. Cheers guys.

I used to believe in god when my dad didn't. I would always rub it in his face that he didn't believe, because I was a small child and small children are dicks. But as I grew older I stopped believing.

Today I used a left-over Bible to start a fire to cook hot-dogs cause the power was out.
There is probably no more terrible instance of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.

Now that's just disrespectful, man.

You're right, I shoulda cooked pork-chops instead.

Jokes aside, I probably would've used notebook paper. Though it is just sitting there... so yellow-paged and flamable.

i can speak from experience, that burning holy texts, even if pragmatic or accidental, is a BAD idea.

As a baptist I feel I should be offended, but I'm really not. Burning holy books is generally a bad idea though, a lot of people would take offense to it, and burning books is generally bad period.
