Lets you plug your routers ethernet cable into a wall socket and run a wired Internet connection through your houses power wires, directly into your computer. Even if you're lucky to have fast WiFi it'll never be as fast as an actual wired connection. They come in various different kinds, with power passthrough so you're not losing a wall socket, and a few of them even act as WiFi hotspots.

I don't know why everyone doesn't own these things.
